Satellite P300-156 - Screen wont come on

Hi
When I turn on the laptop, all the LEDs come on as normal, including the touchpad strip and media buttons, but the screen is totally blank. I hear the hard disk being accessed and see its LED flickering as per a normal bootup, but the screen is totally blank through the entire bootup, and never switches on.
There doesnt seem to be any consistency with the problem. This is twice its happened now in 2 days, and it took me about half an hour on both occasions to eventually get the screen to come to life by doing many power on/power offs (holding down the power button), removing/reinserting the battery.
Has anyone come across this problem before? Any ideas as to a solution?
I'm guessing its a ribbon cable issue perhaps.
Many thanks

Hi
It seems that you had some other problems with this unit in the past as described in the other thread: http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=237201
Both issues could be related to the motherboard malfunction fact is that removing battery and ac adaptor cannot be a real solution. This temporal workaround might help to wakup the notebook from time to time but usually this is not a common notebook behavior therefore I think its more hardware related issue and this means that only an notebook technician might be able to help you in most cases the hardware checks are needed

  • Satellite P300-156: Vista wont start after installation of Toshiba Tempo

    Hi
I have a new Satellite P300-156 which I have been using for about a month with no problems. It has been great.
This morning I had a message come up to install Toshiba Tempo which I did and all was fine until I restarted the laptop and now Vista wont start.
I have followed all the diagnostic tools, tried system restore etc... but still nothing.
I currently live in Italy, so is hard to take it into a computer repair shop as I dont speak Italian and the operating system is in english.
From what I can see my only option now is to do the TOSHIBA HDD Recovery, but I would loose some data which I have done since my last backup. Is there any way to backup data to a usb storage device using command promts before I do this, or is there a simpler way out of this?
    Any advice would be great.
    Thanks
    Keith

    Hi
Thanks for getting back so soon, however, F8 does nothing when starting. I have an option of F2 or F12, but neither gives me options to access last known good configuration.
Is that the same as a system restore from the Vista system recovery options as I have tried this (gives you a list of last known configurations). But still no luck.
If I do the TOSHIBA HDD Recovery function do I need a disc for this?
    thanks

  • Satellite P300 -156 Windows 7 Crash Problem

    Hello,
I have the Toshiba Satellite P300-156 PSPC4E model, and i have had this laptop for a couple of years now.
Before installing windows 7 i had the default Windows Vista installed, and it worked fine.
Now since installing windows 7, ANY game i try and play just causes the laptop to just go black screen and shut down after about 5 - 10 minutes of playing.
I thought this was due to an overheating issue... so i opened the laptop and cleaned it all out, and then put it back together again.
(YES i have checked all wires are back in where they should be and all components are working properly)
    This didn't work.
Then i tried updating all my drivers, and software ect.
    Still nothing.
I've trawled through pages and pages of search results for the same problems with Windows 7 and game crashing... but nobody seems to know how to fix it.
I thought it was just windows 7, but i re installed windows vista and it's still doing the same thing on there now.
I've tried installing all the drivers from toshibas website for this model laptop and no luck.
My windows vista and windows 7 are both genuine copys.
All the hardware is working normally (as far as im aware) and i really can't see what can be causing this problem.
If anyone could give me some advice on what to do it would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,

    Hi
Which display driver you are using? Im not P300 owner but on my A300 I had a similar issue that the notebook crashed during playing a game. It seems that the reason was a 3rd party driver or lets say the driver from the graphic chip manufacture directly. I think because they are not pretested on the notebook and causing overheating
So I would recommend installing the latest display driver from the Toshiba website.
Last but not least which Windows 7 version (32 or 64bit) you have installed and which BIOS version?
The Toshiba website shows also new BIOS versions and different versions for 32bit and 64bit OS. Maybe you have to update/change it Who knows?!

  • Satellite P300 with screen turning pink

    Hi
My Satellite P300 is model PSPCCA-OC6O1Y. The problem I have is a lot of pink on the screen. This has been reoccuring over the last week with this morning the worst. Presently I have two distinct pink pencil lines running down the screen just right of middle, and I also have many other random pink pixles jumping all over the place.
Earlier today what would normally be white on the screen is pink and moving which made it almost impossible to see the screen and use the machine. A shut down and restart has bought it back to a useable position, although the problem has not gone away. On restart no sign of pink on the screen during the normal bootup - no sign of pink on the log in page and pink started as soon as either the browser or email apps were activated. It does go across all programs - I cannot isolate it to any one program, so I suspect it is not a program specific issue.
I am not a techie, just a user, so if the reply can be in simple to understand language that would be appreciated. The machine is under warranty, however I am trying to avoid downtime for repair which is critical if possible.
    Thanks for your help

    Hi Fletch,
Did you connect an external monitor to your notebook? With this external device you can identify the reason of this issue. That means if the external monitor works properly, it seems to be related to the internal display that must be changed.
As Jeka-IL wrote, contact nearest authorized service provider in your country. The guys will try to help you and if your notebook is under warranty, the repair is for free.

  • Re: Satellite P300 - POST screen blank on booting up and very slow start up

    Hi,
I have a laptop Satellite P300. On booting up vista the microsoft logo comes up and then when the POST screen should be showing me what the bios is checking the screen is blank.
It remains blank for 5 to 10 mins then the pointer appears then it finally goes to the desktop.
I suspect the bios is hanging on something but I can't see cos the screen is blank. I suspect there is a setting somewhere. I can enter the bios but can't find anything in there.
Also regards to the extremely slow boot, I have disabled nearly all the start up programs but it has made no difference.
    Has anyone any ideas?
    Thanks

    Hi
Everything runs slowly but finally the Windows OS boots up properly. Right?
Hmm. you can access the BIOS press F2 immediately after power button has been pressed.
This should allow you to access the BIOS. There you should press F9 to set the BIOS to default settings. Save the changes and reboot the unit again.
Additionally I would recommend checking the HDD. You could use a tool called Drive Fitness Test. This tool can be downloaded for free (google for that).
By the way; did you try to recover the notebook using recover disk?
Maybe you should try this but note; this would format the HDD so backup the date before starting recovery.

  • Satellite P300 - blank screen since turned on, but sometimes working fine

    Helo,
    I have a Toshiba Satellite P300-1F0.
The display is blank when I turn it on, even on the boot up screen, and I cant hear the startup windows sounds.
Although if I turn it on and off, it will work after some tries, sometimes it works on the first try, some others I have to turn it on and off like 20 times before he finaly starts working. When it turns on it works perfectly.
    I tried:
pressing the power button for 1 min while charger and battery out,
    Checking manually the ram.
reinstalling and updating monitor and graphics card drivers.
shaking the lid to check if there is a cable broken
but none of these actions worked
I also noticed that the computer works with a external monitor (TV) connected via hdmi.
If i turn the laptop on, the screen is blank, and no windows sounds played, and after some minutes I plug in the hdmi cable, the Tv shows that windows was on, and sounds start to work from there.
While connected to the TV, I try to turn the display on by pressing (windws key+P) but it doesnt work.
In Screen resolution menu, windows cant detect the display, only the TV
Can anyone help me? what can be thr source of the problem?
    Any soluction?
    Thank you for your Time,
    Adriano

  • Satellite P300 156 PSPC4E - White Media LEDs stay on after power-off

    HI
    I have a Toshiba Notebook Satellite P Series P300 156 (PSPC4E) which has just developed a problem
When I power off, the laptop shuts down normally and power button itself goes off, but the 6 white media LED's to the right of the power button remain on constantly. The only way to get these to turn themselves off is to disconnect the battery.
    Can anyone please advise
    Many thanks

    Thanks for the replies
I tried altering the BOIS, but that only affects the illuminated strip along the top of the mouse touch pad.
I cant remember which version of BIOS that I got (I'm at work at the moment) but I tried downloading the latest from here (dated 18/03/10), and it made no difference.
Its a strange one. The lights stay on even if the laptop is closed for long periods. They just never go off, unless I take the battery out.

  • Satellite P300-156 - Cannot install any OS

    Hi
i have had a P300-156 for some time now.
It was fine up untill recently, when the DHCP client stopped workin and wouldnt start,
So i tried to restore from disc and had no dice with that attempt.
So i attempted to recover from HDD again no luck the laptop keeps freezing after the install.
So i tried to install Ubuntu on the laptop but again same problem, linux says "Buffer error I/O sdo" ??
I'm not sure what that is, it did however manage to wipe the entire drive.
And i cannot XP to install because it wont find the HDD.
So the situation is that i have no recovery methods and cannot install another OS.
Guys im really confused about what to do here, so if anyone can help please i need it.

    Hi James
Im not quite sure if your HDD died or not but you should know that your Win XP Setup will not recognize the HDD too if the SATA driver was not included.
The point is that your P300 was equipped with the SATA HDD controller and the SATA driver is necessary and needed if you want to install any of the operating system.
The SATA driver is a part of the Intel Matrix Storage Manager.
So if you want to install the XP on your P300 you should firstly include the SATA drive into the XP installation CD.
This can be done very easily using a free software called nLite.
    This Toshiba doc would be helpful for you because if describes step by step how to include a SATA driver;
    Check this:

  • Satellite P300-156 - driver detected controller error on \Device\Ide\IdePort1

    Hi
I have recently installed a secondary hard drive in my P300-156 and am having some problems with it. I keep getting Event ID 11 in the system event log "The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Ide\IdePort1." and suffer with very bad performance with this drive.
The drive is new and works fine in other systems and even works ok if I swap drive bays on my P300-156 but the problem with that is the drive does not fit in the other bay as it is quite thick. The drive in question is a Samsung HM100UI 2.5" 1TB Sata. I have also tried other drives in this bay and they work ok too.
I am using windows 7 ultimate and Intel chipset drivers. It's an Intel ICH8M SATA AHCI controller, driver version 7.0.0.1013. Have tried different drivers and AHCI/IDE mode. Also tried a fresh installation and the problem persists.
Am at a loss why this drive is having problems is there anything else someone can suggest to try?
    Thanks in advance.

    > The current Intel chipset "driver" is v10. I have it installed BUT the installation if you want to do a complete install is not a simple task. If you download and unpack you can point the driver update to that location. Start at Intel.com
Thanks!! This worked! It seems the Intel INF auto update utility didn't update them to the latest. I had to download the [RST and AHCI Driver and GUI|http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=20110&lang=eng] and manually search for new drivers in device manager. Now the drive is noticeably quicker and error free :)
Thanks for all the help guys :)

  • Screen wont come on

    Hi There,
I was watching a video and my screen when dark, I assumed it was hybernating so I pressed the volume up button on my remote, nothing happened. When the computer is off there is a pulsing light on the front. The computer switches on, the fans run but no screen. I can not reset anything on the computer becuase obviously I cannot see the screen, but it does talk to me. The computer is about 4 days old and I am very dissappointed. Is there anything I can do. I have tried pulling out the power cord and restart etc.
    Many thanks
    Jessica

    To The Apple Discussion Boards!
"The computer is about 4 days old and I am very dissappointed."
You shouldn't be. You have 90 days of FREE phone tech support from Apple & 3 years of it if you also purchased AppleCare.
Strongly suggest that you take advantage of it.
BTW, if you have a 24" screen iMac, then you have an Intel iMac.

  • Satellite P300-P19: screen is too bright

    Hi all
I have a P300-P19, the screen is so bright, its set at LEVEL 17.
I have to use FN + F6 to drop it to LEVEL 1 constantly.
Does anyone know how to set it so it stays at the LEVEL you want ?
And is there any other options for contract etc etc
Its even to bright at LEVEL 1 but i do hate bright lights... :-)
    Thanks in advance..
    Rob

LOL :D if you hate true bright screens so why you buy devices which support such True Bright screen technology?
I love such screens I like it in the LCD TV, external PC LCD and in notebooks...
However, if you want to use constantly low screen brightness then I recommend changing the screen brightness option in the Vista Power settings.
    Check the forums HowTo area.
There you can find nice document called How to handle the power managment features of Windows Vista?

  • Satellite P300 PSPCCA - screen went pink

    Hi,
I am running the above model notebook.
Using it last night for a couple of hours and the screen went pink, I have tried a couple of system restores to no avail, it is not screen res settings I have checked them.
At a loss of what it might be, anyone got any advice on fixing it?
Whole screen is pink, I have a light shadow behind my mouse, some graphics come up in purple/pink shades.
    thanks

    Hi
There are two possible faulty parts; either its graphic card or its a display.
If the same pink display would be visible on external monitor then the issue is related to faulty graphic chip.
If the external monitor would be ok, then the issue is related only to the notebooks screen.

  • Iphone screen wont come on at all?

Looking for advice please... my fairly new Iphone screen will not come on at all.
I did not drop it, abuse it or hit it. It was working, a coworker came to talk to me, I stopped my music and when I tried to start it again, it would not come on. I pulled out the phone and noticed when I hit the button on the headphones it would not light up screen. I tried the button on the phone but it also does not work.
A friend called me maybe 20 minutes later and Whew it came on but when we hung up, it would not longer come on after! I plugged it on the USB port a good 20 times, called myself from an internet phone and it just won't come back on, argh!
I removed the screen protector and the sleeve it's in but it still will not come on. I removed the SIM card, etc etc etc but no matter what I do there is no life on the screen. If I call from the web, it does ring but that's it.
Would anyone have any ideas for me? I have no home phone and the sim card will no longer work in my old phone leaving me phone less. I actually had to drive to a payphone to call a friend, bleh ....
I hope this is covered by warranty, the limited warranty thankfully seems to cover this since it appears to be a mechanical defect of the phone itself.
    Thanks in advance,
    Phil

If you have a case on it, try it without the case.
Have you tried basic troubleshooting as per the manual?
    Page 34
"If something is not working right, restarting or resetting iPhone will likely solve the
    problem.
Restart iPhone: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears.
Slide your finger across the slider to turn off iPhone. To turn iPhone back on, press and
hold the Sleep/Wake until the Apple logo appears.
Reset iPhone: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the
same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
For more troubleshooting suggestions, see Appendix A, “Troubleshooting,” on page 131. "
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/enUS/iPhone_UserGuide.pdf
Of course the warranty covers this.

  • Satellite P300- Black Screen at start-up

    Hey,
My notebook freezed the other day then shutdown. Ever since it has been unable to rebot. The power and battery light are on and when I go to turn it on it comes on and will ether stay on for 5 seconds and go off or stay on but still with a black screen.
Any of you guys plz help.

    Hi
In your case I would check the memory modules firstly.
The point is that a faulty module would affect the notebook startup process you would not be able to access the BIOS if the modules are faulty.
You said the notebook shut down this would mean that the temperature has increase to a higher level and therefore the notebook powered off in order to prevent the hardware from damage
In your case everything can be possible as I said; RAM should be checked at first, if RAMs are ok, then other parts like CPU and motherboard should be checked
I think you have not many experience and not enough resources in order to run some tests and therefore I recommend contacting a technician. The professional guy could test the parts and if necessary could replace it
