Satellite P300-1C9 - SD Card reader code 10

Hi All,
I have a new Toshiba P300-1C9, well six months old, and have just for the first time tried an SD card in the digital media card slot.
The card is not showing in "my computer". In device manager it is showing with the yellow fault sign warning of a problem.
Double clicking it gives this message "This device cannot start code 10" In Disc Management the card is not listed in the upper pane but is showing as a drive in the lower pane without a drive letter being assigned.
If I try to assign a drive letter I get a message saying the operation failed to complete because the Disc Management console view is not up to date.
It requests refreshing the view using the refresh task. That does nothing.
I have reinstalled the drivers for the SD Card listed under disk drives when the card is in, for the storage Controllers and the Generic volume listed under Storage volumes. Also I have updated the driver for SD host adaptors.
A card format has made no difference. I know the card reader is okay as a few days ago I took an up to date image with Acronis TI and then reinstalled the OS from the recovery media. The card worked fine then. I've now put the Acronis image back and the card isn't working. I've had loads of driver updates along the way from Toshiba for various things (but not the media card reader) via their Tempro service including a bios update.
I am wondering if the bios update caused the problem. I am debating whether to put the bios back to the default setting.
I have tried everything I can think of, and followed a number of suggestions after googling the problem. The MS Knowledge Base wasn't very helpful and a lot of people seem to have the same problem. I am now at a complete loss.
Thanks,
cheven
Any ideas would be most welcome.
Thanks.

Hi
Generally the Error code 10 means that the device cannot start.
Your card reader is not ready and does not run and therefore the SD card cannot be used and is not recognized in My Computer.
In most cases the driver update/reinstallation should help to sort put this issue.
The Satellite P300-1C9 belongs to the PSPCCE series.
The Toshiba European driver page provides the Card Reader Controller driver for this notebook model. This is the driver which controls the SD card slot.
I recommend downloading this driver. Then access the device manager and uninstall the previous installed driver. Then reboot the notebook.
After new reboot the OS should search for a new device and should ask for the necessary driver.
Then you should point to the driver which you have downloaded and should finish the installation.
Usually this should solve your problem.

  • Satellite M60-104 - memory card reader does not read memory stick pro duo

    Hi guys,
the built in card reader on my laptop does not recognize/read sony's memory stick pro duo - is this normal or not?
I know it should read memory stick pro but not sure about pro duo.
    Can you help me please?

    Hi
    >the built in card reader on my laptop does not recognize/read sony's memory stick pro duo - is this normal or not?
Of course this could be normal behavior because not all cards are compatible and supported.
I would recommend taking look into the user manual because there you can find a information which cards can be used in the notebooks card reader!!!

  • Satellite 2410-603 - SD card reader not working

My Berlkin SD card broke and i replaced it with a Netgear WG511 v2 which is also not working, now i am asking myself, is it the card that is broken or the card reader?
Any ideas would be great, thanks.

    Hi,
would be useful to test the card in another machine or cardreader, to check if it is really working. Otherwise check
the system services if the cardreader service is properly activated and started and all drivers are properly installed.
Maybe a driver update is useful too. And to check if the cardreader works, just put a memorycard in there. If it works flawlessy,
you then know whats the point. :)

  • X61 - SD Card Reader - (Code 10 - the device cannot start)

    Hi.
One of our users in RTX Telecom Denmark have a problem with his X61.
Everytime he insert a SD card to the reader it comes with this error message:
Code 10 - the device cannot start.
We have tried all the Windows hotfixes, reinstalling the drivers from:
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-67971
restarting the machine, but nothing helps.
Do you know anything about this issue.

I have now tried with the preload without any luck. Or that is not completly true, I could put a 1 gB Kingston card in the computer and it would pop up. But it also freezed the computer from time to time.
If I took the card again after a freeze, the computer went back to normal.
But out of 6 SD cards, that was the only one I managed to get working.
I tried all kind of sizes:
    64 mb (no luck)
    512 mb (no luck)
1 gb (kinda worked - sometimes freeze)
    2 gb (no luck)
    4 gb (no luck)
    8 gb  (no luck)
So now I have called Lenovo support and they will come and fix it for me.

  • Satellite P300-18M - Is using the card reader for Vista Ready Boost OK?

    Hi there,
I have a P300-18M, and, due to getting a new phone, have an 8GB Micro SD Card spare.
I have put this in the card reader, and I am currently using it for Ready Boost, even though I have 3GB of RAM, there is definately a performance boost...
However, does anyone know if this could endanger the card reader? (ie damage it in any way) from being used all the time?
    Thanks
    Jack

Hmm. I wonder about the 8GB Micro SD Card.
As far as I know and according to some details in the internet, the Satellite P300 supports the microSD (with adapter) card 512MB - 4GB.
Usually the notebooks card reader should not recognize bigger microSD cards than 4GB.
Nevertheless I doubt it could affect the card reader functionality in worst case the 8GB microSD card will not be recognized by card reader
    Cheers

    Hi
You have to download and install the card reader controller driver for Win 8.1 system
This driver should be the right one:

  • Satellite Pro A200: Card Reader does not work after XP installation

    Hi...
I have removed Windows Vista from my Satellite Pro A200 in favour of XP Home.
I'm much happier with the machine now but am unable to get any response from the Card Reader. There's no mention of it in the User's Manual that came with the machine.
I can't find any reference to it in the Control Panel's Hardware Manager and nothing changes in there when I insert an SD memory card.
I didn't have cause to try the reader prior to removing Vista, so I don't know if it ever worked... although I imagine that it did.
Running a search for a driver in the download section didn't have any success and this forum has no direct answers.
Does anyone have any idea what I need to do to get this to work?
    Popa Mintin.

    Hi
I dont see any serious reasons why your card reader shouldnt run/function with installed Windows XP.
What you need is the right driver.
The Toshiba driver page provides all Win XP drivers and there is also an XP driver for the multi card reader.
You need a Texas Instruments Flash Media Driver. This is a driver for your Bridge Media Slot.
This slot lets you insert either a SD card, Memory Stick (Pro) or xD picture card.
    Cheers

  • How to read card reader (bar code reader) in simple java program ?

    hai all
how to manipulate (read/write) card readers (or bar code reader ) in
    a java program ?
should i import any particular package library ?
pls give me any sample code or tutorials or tools, etc (whatever you have) .
i am new to this card reader category
    its very urgent
    thank you .

Nearly all card readers and barcode readers I've ever seen simply stick their input right onto stdin, so you can capture it just as if it had been typed in on a keyboard

  • Is it possible to install a 3G SIM card reader to Satellite M645-S4070

    Hi there!
I have Satellite M645-S4070 laptop with serial no. YA153766K.
It is WiMAX ready and also has a SIM card slot but does not have a SIM card reader.
I took a slight look inside and it does have something that has "3G" written on it.
Would it be possible to install a SIM card reader to my laptop?
I know, that I could also use a 3G USB modem but it would be a lot more convenient to get connection without additional devices around my laptop.
    Thanks!
    Taros

    Hi
As far as I know there are models which supports 3G or Intel 4G WiMAX
    Your unit supports 4G (WiMAX)
Im not quite sure if its possible to upgrade this unit with an 3G module but if it would be possible, this needs to be done by Toshiba authorized service technician.
By the way: your notebook belongs to the Toshiba US series and was released for the US market therefore I recommend checking the Toshiba US forum:

  • SDHC card reader in Satellite A300-1MX?

    Hi everyone,
i bought a Toshiba Satellite A300-1MX back in October 2008, and now i wanted to buy an SDHC card, but I was wondering whether my laptop would support this "new"-ish card. The reason I want an SDHC is because it comes in bigger volumes.
So do you know if my laptop can read SDHC cards?
    Thanks so much,
    Sincerely,
    Alex

The Satellite Satellite A300-1MX card reader supports these cards:
    SD Card: 8MB-2GB
    SDHC Card: 4GB-16GB
    xD picture card: 16MB-2GB
    Memory Stick: 8MB-256MB
    Memory Stick Pro: 256MB-4GB
    MultiMediaCard: 8MB-2GB
    miniSD (with adapter): 32MB-2GB

  • Satellite M40 - SD card stuck in SD Card Reader

    Hi!
I have a Satellite M40 and today I had the bad idea to use the Toshiba SD card reader.
I inserted the card into the slot and it went deep into it. Trying to get it back only resulted in pushing it farther in.
Now the cards is aprox. 2cm inside the slot and there is no way to get it out.
This must be a joke. Please tell me where the secret button is to get that card out of there. I give up, really...
    Thanks,
    Fritz

    Hello
As far as I know Satellite M40 has not SD card slot but media slot and it supports different media cards. Of course you can not use all cards available on the market but just supported formats.
Zim wrote very good explanation how it works. Of course, with compatible cards only. Described issue can not happen with SD card. It is too big and can not come 2 cm inside the slot.
I am afraid you have used mini SD card. Am I right about that?
This card can not be used without proper adaptor.
Bad thing is that there is no secret button. :(

  • Re: Satellite A200 - After Win7 installation SD card reader doesnt work

    Hello,
I have installed Windows 7 on my Satellite A200 and now cannot find my SD card reader.
Where can I find the driver for that?
I did not find it in the download section from Toshiba.
    Rob.

    Hi
The drivers for SD card reader is called Flash Media Driver.
The Flash Media Driver is for your Bridge Media Slot. This slot lets you insert either a SD card, Memory Stick (Pro) or xD picture card.
If such driver is not available for Win 7 then you should take the one released for Win Vista.
    Cheers
