Both operating systems are good. There is only one big difference.
If you want to use more as 4GB RAM then you should take the 64bit OS.
Only the 64bit OS would recognize full 4GB RAM. The 32bit recognizes only 3.2GB RAM.
At the other hand the 3GB RAM are more as enough and usually 4GB RAM are not really necessary if you dont run any heavy performance applications.

Satellite P300 PSPC4A - Windows 7 / 32 bit post install - freeze on start

This unit was loaded bare with generic Win7 Enterprise from CD and devices not sensed by the OS were loaded from the Toshiba site. On boot, every time, the internal keyboard and trackpad freezes. Plugging in an external mouse allows me to reboot. Post reboot, unit works correctly. Freeze occurs only after a hard shutdown. Ideas?

There are no special keyboard drivers. Keyboard driver is a part of Win 7 OS.
There are just touchpad drivers for the notebook but I dont see any reasons why it should freezes while Win booting
Maybe you should reinstall the OS again just to check if its not Win OS issue

How can I get a recovery disk for Satellite P300-1CI?

first, sorry for my english, I'm a belgian and I speak french.
Yesterday I bought a toshiba Satellite P300-1CI, when I started, I must installed Vista home.
I would like to format my disk and reinstall my old Windows XP.
My question is : How can keep an image disk with Vista? I don't have an installation disk of Vista and don't know my registration key of it.
How can I have a recovery disk ?
Can you help me please.

User manual is really interesting document and in most cases it answer all you questions ;)
Anyway, the Toshiba recovery disk should be created before you would format and install on the HDD.
You have to use the preinstalled Toshiba Recovery Disk Creator application in order to create the Recovery DVD.
Now to you other question;
The Vista image which is preinstalled and placed on the Recovery disk (after recovery disk has been created) is activated already and you dont need to insert any keys or activate anything.

Satellite P300 and Windows 7 Beta..

Hey guys..
I updated the horrible Vista that my P300 came with to the new Windows 7 beta.. Most of the features are working correctly.
Here are the problems i ran into.
*HDMI* - it does work, but i lose audio via HDMI if i pause a video. If i'm on youtube and i watch a video the audio will be fine until i either pause it, rewind or fast forward the video, if i click on another video it will also stop working. This goes for any sort of video i watch on the pc.. not just youtube.. even DVD's.
To get the audio via HDMI again, i need to go to audio devices and select pc speakers as default, then chose HDMI as default again.. then it will work until i pause or skip videos again.
*Wireless Card..*
If the P300 goes into sleep mode, sometimes i will not be able to re-connect to the wireless network again. I need to reboot the P300 to get it to connect again.
I also have 4 or 5 items in the device manager that are not installed properly.. i cant list them now cause i dont have my laptop with me.
Anyone else running Windows 7 Beta?? If so do you have any issues?

We all know that Windows 7 is still as beta version on the market and official support is not started.
So to discuss about some issues on Windows 7 is for me definitely superfluously.
The drivers, tools and utilities are not available yet and if everything works well it OK, if not we must wait until Windows 7 support starts.
I have installed Windows 7 on my Satellite Pro P300 and play a little bit with it but I am not wondering if something wont work as it should.

Satellite P300 -156 Windows 7 Crash Problem

I have the Toshiba Satellite P300-156 PSPC4E model, and i have had this laptop for a couple of years now.
Before installing windows 7 i had the default Windows Vista installed, and it worked fine.
Now since installing windows 7, ANY game i try and play just causes the laptop to just go black screen and shut down after about 5 - 10 minutes of playing.
I thought this was due to an overheating issue... so i opened the laptop and cleaned it all out, and then put it back together again.
(YES i have checked all wires are back in where they should be and all components are working properly)
This didn't work.
Then i tried updating all my drivers, and software ect.
Still nothing.
I've trawled through pages and pages of search results for the same problems with Windows 7 and game crashing... but nobody seems to know how to fix it.
I thought it was just windows 7, but i re installed windows vista and it's still doing the same thing on there now.
I've tried installing all the drivers from toshibas website for this model laptop and no luck.
My windows vista and windows 7 are both genuine copys.
All the hardware is working normally (as far as im aware) and i really can't see what can be causing this problem.
If anyone could give me some advice on what to do it would be greatly appreciated.

Which display driver you are using? Im not P300 owner but on my A300 I had a similar issue that the notebook crashed during playing a game. It seems that the reason was a 3rd party driver or lets say the driver from the graphic chip manufacture directly. I think because they are not pretested on the notebook and causing overheating
So I would recommend installing the latest display driver from the Toshiba website.
Last but not least which Windows 7 version (32 or 64bit) you have installed and which BIOS version?
The Toshiba website shows also new BIOS versions and different versions for 32bit and 64bit OS. Maybe you have to update/change it Who knows?!

I have my friend’s Toshiba Satellite C855D-S5950 with Windows 8 (64bit) that about a year old. Some months ago the sound stopped working. He asked me to take a look at it. I have researched this issue and found others have encountered his problem as well.
Currently, the sound icon has a red x, “No audio output device is installed.”
Things I have tried so far to try to fix this:
I went to the Device Manager > Sound, video and game controllers. I have "Realtek High Definition Audio" listed with the little yellow caution icons on them. I have tried to disable, then enable it. I have tried to uninstall the sound driver from the Device Manager. I would restart the laptop, and let the driver reinstall itself, to no effect. I have tried downloading the latest drivers from the Toshiba website. I have tried un-installing the driver while in safe mode from the Device Manager. As well as from Programs and Features. There were no positive change to the audio though, still the same message. The Realtek driver won't finish installing and throws the error: "Install Realtek HD Audio Driver Failure!! [Error Code: 0x000000FF]"
I have gone to Control Panel > Sound, under both the Playback and Recording tabs, it says "No audio devices are installed."
My friend was previously unaware of how to restart or shut down his Windows 8 laptop (as was I until I started investigating this problem for him). I mention this because there are no useful System Restore points to go back to for him.
I have also tried Using the Toshiba Application Installer as well to re-install the driver after un-installing the Realtek Audio driver from Add/Remove Programs. I went to Desktop Assist >Support Recovery > Toshiba Application Installer.

It loads most of the way then I get:
"Install Realtek HD Audio Driver Failure!! [Error Code: 0x000000FF]"

It was also suggested in the above thread I remove the Microsoft UAA Driver, but could not find this driver on my friend’s system.
Plugging in headphones, toggling the speaker volume controls on the keyboard has had no effect.
My friend has also misplaced his install discs, so I am looking for any solution which does not require the install discs.
Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Recovery media is created from the hard drive. You can make it using Toshiba Recovery Media Creator. You can also perform a full system reset to factory defaults using the information on the hard drive without using external recovery media. That sounds like the best course of action now. To do so, use Windows+C > Settings > Power > SHIFT + Restart > Troubleshoot > Reset your PC.

on startup goes to windows error recovery give you 2 choices 1. launch startup repair 2. start windows normally. when i choose 1. it says loading files then goes to blank screen with mouse poiinter and thats it. I need some help please.

Unfortunately, you have probably wiped out the Toshiba Recovery partition on your HDD when you used the Windows 7 64bit retail disk to reinstall your OS. As well, it sounds like you never made a set of Toshiba Recovery disks before this mishap. The info for all this begins on page 61 of your Satellite M640 Series User’s Guide.
Using the recovery utility would have rebuilt your HDD to its factory default out-of-the-box state, including the recovery partition, Win 7 64bit, all Toshiba drivers and utilities, and all software your system originally came with. If you do not think you wiped out the recovery partition when you reinstalled Windows, then while powering on the system you could try holding down the '0' (zero) key until you see the Toshiba Recovery utility menu. If this doesn't work see this article:

If none of the above works, you can still order a set of recovery media from Toshiba, which I would strongly recommend. Rebuilding the recovery partition, and having a set of recovery disks for backup, could save you a lot of grief on this, and on any future rebuilds.

Satellite L500-21T & Windows 8 64-bit

I changed my operating system to windows 8 64bit , all hardware defined by windows except chipset & blutooth (I defined them once from Windows 7 another time from latest model like L830). but the function key not working (for wirekess/blutooth on/off ).
Is there any drivers for L500-21T for windows 8 64bit or from specific new compatible models drivers?

One more thing: your notebook has Intel HM55 Express Chipset. Interesting is that Tecra A11 with part number PTSE0E has the same chipset and it is supported for Win8 so you can try to use chipset driver offered for this Tecra notebook.

Satellite P300-19P not able to capture audio using Chicony Cam software

I recently upgraded to windows 7 from vista and since then i have not been able to capture audio with the camera assistant software.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, repairing the program, changing the audio settings, running in compatibility mode, i have practically exhausted everything i can think of.
Can anybody help at all?

You mean you are not able to record the audio using the internal microphone.
Is it right?
In your case I would recommend checking the audio device settings inside the camsoftware.
In settings -> audio tab (last tab) you will find the necessary settings.
The audio device field should contain the microphone (2 Realtek high definition device) and the audio volume option should be set to max (to right).

Satellite P300 (PSPCCA-03W01Y) - No microphone after Windows 7 update

Hi,
After updating my P300 to Windows 7 (32-bit) my in-built microphone has not worked. I understand that the microphone is part of the camera, but I cannot find the driver for Windows 7 32-bit to update it with. The camera is working fine.
There have been similar threads that direct you to download the driver, but after looking at the Toshiba Australia and the toshiba-europe sites, I have not been able to find it.
Does anyone know where I can find this driver?

You can try the Vista 32bit driver from Toshiba Australian page. Usually this driver also work on Windows 7 because Vista and Windows 7 are very similar so it would be worth a try and install the Vista 32bit driver.
If it doesnt work have a look for Satellite P500 drivers. On Australian page I saw a Windows 7 32bit driver for this model and I assume it should also work on your P300.

Satellite P300 - Turns itself on automatically

Hi,
I have a Satellite P300 with Windows Visa Home Premium as the OS. When I turn the computer off (through shut down) it successfully shutting itself down. However, after a while (between 15 min - 2 hours) it turns the computer on automatically without any intervention from my side.
Any advise on how the issue could be fixed?

Have you connected external devices to your notebook like printer, mouse, LAN cable or something else? If yes disconnect all of them and the only cable that should be connected is AC/DC adapter. All other devices you should remove and then test if your notebook turns on again.
Furthermore I would go into BIOS and load the default settings. Make also sure that Wake up on LAN is disabled and save these new settings.
By the way: Since when do you notice this behavior?

Recovery media not working for Satellite L455 S5000 , windows 7 -64bit

Guys, My Satellite L455 crashed the drive. I ordered the kit from TOSHIBA to do a factory reinstall. The instructions says: Hold "C"key while bringing computer up. I tried it several times but nothing happened. I tried to boot from the DVD drive but it din't work at all. How may I do to restore my PC using the recovery media with a new drive ? Remembering it's Satellite L455 -S5000 , windows 7 , 64 bit. Thanks in advance. Joelson

The HDD is completely broken. The recovery partition gone too.
About the F12, I tried it.
Choosing the DVD drive to boot using the recovery disc #1 inside nothing happens.
The DVD drive starts, first acess to DVD media happens but nothing appear in the screen. Few seconds after the system try to boot from the new HDD that is empty.
My objective is reconstruct the windows in the new HDD bringing back the HD to it's original structure ( without any data ) like a new one.
Remembering that old drive and new one have the same size ( just the brand is different , new one is SAMSUNG SATA ) . Old one was TOSHIBA .
Any insight is welcomed.
