Satellite P300-1CN - Video Blur and dull

Hi,
I just got my new P300-1CN with Vista installed. but I am disappointed with quality of vide with big 17 inch screen.
When I play live TV from say tvunetworks.com for example, picture is blur and I can see the shadows, and it is not sharp, have difficulty in viewing the video clearly. I checked playing DVD image stored on my external harddrive by installing Divx player and it is same...picture quality is dull. I played same video on my previous laptop (from another manufacture 3.5 years old) and it is crystal clear and bright. And by the way I used to watching livetv from same site on my laptop from another manufacture and it is crystal clear.
I dont know what is the problem, tried changing colour settings, refresh rate and all. But no use.
Can anybody help to understand what is the problem and how to fix it.
Thanks in advance.
VT

Hi All,
Can you please let me know whether this is general problem with LED WXGA+ TFT screens?.....I need to decide whether to buy another laptop of same type or not as I have returned my laptop now.
basically problem is
When I play Live Video from any video site...video seems to have shadows and can see gray areas and blur video. Video is not sharp and bright as compared to my old laptop (4 years old). Pictures are fine, I have also seen some HD video clip downloaded from Internet and that seems to be fine...But since I use my laptop mostly for watching live tv and videos online, it is not useful for me with this problem. I have tried all the ATI Control Center settings, with settings changed there seems to have been improvement in color quality but not the problem video blur and shadow. Problem also exists when stored DVD file played from external harddisk. Tried all the video players like real, windows, divx and VLC.
Thanks

I've got this laptop about a 2 months.
    Thanks.

    Hello
    Sounds like a hardware issue...
You could try to remove the battery and AC/DC adaptor. Wait one hour and then connect both devices again.
If it doesnt work you need professional help from an authorized service provider. The technicians can check your notebook and tell you what part must be replaced.
Here you can find your local ASP:

  • Satellite P300 1CN blue & blank screen

    Hi,
I was working away on an excel sheet on my toshiba satellite p300-1cn yesterday evening. After an hour or so I left the notebook on the table and went to prepare dinner. 30mins later when i returned to the notebook the screen was black which i though odd as my picture slide show kicks in after 15 mins. I tried pressing keys and mouse to 'wake' the screen back up but no luck.
Since then my laptop screen will not come on.I hooked up an external monitor and got a display. I then clicked start in 'normal mode' as I was asked. Unfortunately it then proceeded to blue screen and restart. I tried safe mode and got in. I ran a chkdsk but nothing showed up. I tried a recovery to previous date but alas no luck. I disabled the ATI graphics card and tried to restart and again nothing. Still works with external monitor but only in safe mode.
    Can anyone help me?
My bios was update by toshiba in January so it's up to date.
I have windows 7 32bit if that matters?

  • Satellite P30-110 video, sound and mouse is jerky

    Hi everyone,
I am running Win XP Pro. I had been having problems with my laptop for sometime now that whenever the hard drive was nearing full the entire system would start acting up in that when the system started up the Windows login sound would sounds like a CD skipping, then my mouse would jump around the screen and basically not move in a flowing manner, if I then try to watch video its like watching a DVD that skips and jumps every few seconds.
So to try and rectify this I did a much needed clean install of Windows. This seemed to fix the problem until after I installed the ATI display driver, I think, it may have been the previous drivers for the Toshiba Console/Control. So if the problem is the display adapter, what other options do I have? Or is it something else altogether?
Any help will be much appreciated!

    >So if the problem is the display adapter, what other options do I have?
If this issue is related to the graphic chip then you have no many options; in such case the chip malfunction and should be replaced. But the point is that the graphic chip is not possible but only the whole motherboard replacement!
The mobo is not cheap and it would be a costly affair to replace such part. In my opinion its not worth to replace the mobo
But the point is that we dont know whats wrong exactly. Maybe its not a graphic card problem.
Did you try to reinstall the OS using the Recovery disk?
You should try this because the recovery disk already contains the necessary drivers and tools.
The issue could be related to a HDD issue. if the HDD start to malfunctions (it would rotate slower or some sectors would be damage) then the access to the data would be affected and the notebook could start to interrupt.
As you see, this are only some suggestions and I think nobody would be able to say, whats wrong until the notebooks hardware has been checked!

  • Satellite P300-1CN - How to get replacemant?

    Hi,
About two weeks ago I have started a thread on this forum. [http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=56949&tstart=15] Below the main post:
+My laptop started switching itself off every time I put it away for a couple of minutes, closing a lid and then trying to open it again. It used to happen few times a month but now it got worse. Now while it is on, every time I close a lid and then I try to open it again it makes funny noise (like the power supply has been suddenly cut off) and it switches itself off. It wont re start with the on/off button. Each time I have to remove the battery and unplug the power source first, before it eventually turns on, resuming the system and asking if I want to recover my unsaved data.+
+I have tried tho close and open the lid while using Windows 7 and Windows XP, exactly the same thing happens on both what makes me think that there may be some mechanical fault.+
Laptop was sent for repair. After 8 days came back and was looking all good - motherboard was replaced. Unfortunately after only 5 days it happened again. I contacted the repair center, and have sent the laptop again for repair.
Just wondering how many times it have to be send for repair to get replacement ?? It third time now. To be fair its quite annoying, and because the warranty is due to expire on 18 Nov 2010, I'm little bit worried about it. Who should I contact about it?
    Regards
    David

As far as I know every Toshiba service provider sell such warranty extensions.
Anyway, check Toshiba page about warranty under http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Peripherals & Services > Standard Warranty.
On the right side you will see menu with option Warranty extension. Click on it and check page about International warranty extension.
There you can option Where to buy.

  • Re: Satellite P300-156 - grainy display and vertical lines on it

    Hi,
everytime I 1st start up the machine the display looks grainy and with 1 green line vertically down the right hand-side of the LCD.
When Vista completes start-up (with my white desktop background), there is lots of pink coluring on icon, when I press "start" and it displays the programs etc, the abckground is all pink! Also the pop-up web cam settings/opener is displaying the same.
To get rid off this, I restart the machine and all if fine. This is the only way to rectify.
Over the last week I have again tried to look at the problem...
I have changed the LCD, Harddrive (upgraded to 320GB), and updated the BIOS with latest version of this site. Now, it wil still do the same, but after 30 seconds (or so) it automatically sorts itself out.
I really want this sorted, has anyone got any ideas???
    Thanks in advance!

Yes, when I changed over the screens, the same problem happens, but the odd things I that previously it would not automatically sort itself out, I had to restart the machine and then it would be fine (all the time, until the next day). NOW, since I again done a complete install (via cd ordered from Toshiba), and installed updates via TEMPRO including the BIOS, it seem to correct itself after approx 1 Min???
I also took out the memory and put back in, checked screen cables by pulling out and re-connecting.
I will try this eve on an external screen (my LCD TV via HDMI) and see what happens...
Thanks for your reply to my headache

  • Satellite P300 -156 Windows 7 Crash Problem

    Hello,
I have the Toshiba Satellite P300-156 PSPC4E model, and i have had this laptop for a couple of years now.
Before installing windows 7 i had the default Windows Vista installed, and it worked fine.
Now since installing windows 7, ANY game i try and play just causes the laptop to just go black screen and shut down after about 5 - 10 minutes of playing.
I thought this was due to an overheating issue... so i opened the laptop and cleaned it all out, and then put it back together again.
(YES i have checked all wires are back in where they should be and all components are working properly)
    This didn't work.
Then i tried updating all my drivers, and software ect.
    Still nothing.
I've trawled through pages and pages of search results for the same problems with Windows 7 and game crashing... but nobody seems to know how to fix it.
I thought it was just windows 7, but i re installed windows vista and it's still doing the same thing on there now.
I've tried installing all the drivers from toshibas website for this model laptop and no luck.
My windows vista and windows 7 are both genuine copys.
All the hardware is working normally (as far as im aware) and i really can't see what can be causing this problem.
If anyone could give me some advice on what to do it would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,

    Hi
Which display driver you are using? Im not P300 owner but on my A300 I had a similar issue that the notebook crashed during playing a game. It seems that the reason was a 3rd party driver or lets say the driver from the graphic chip manufacture directly. I think because they are not pretested on the notebook and causing overheating
So I would recommend installing the latest display driver from the Toshiba website.
Last but not least which Windows 7 version (32 or 64bit) you have installed and which BIOS version?
The Toshiba website shows also new BIOS versions and different versions for 32bit and 64bit OS. Maybe you have to update/change it Who knows?!

  • Satellite P300-18M - VGA to S-Video / RCA cable - No Picture on TV

    Hi,
First of all, I am trying to use my other laptop (Dell Lattitude D630) I with my TV, however, this other laptop only has a VGA output.
So I bought a VGA to S-Video and RCA adapter from e-Bay: [Picture|http://members.lycos.co.uk/jtfearnley/Hosting/Images/RCA%20To%20S-Video%20RCA.jpg]
However, this does not work, the laptop in question does have "TV Out through VGA", so it should work according to various websites, and the seller....
However, I then tried to test it with my Satellite P300-18M, and it does not work with this either, I have tried both the composite (yellow port) and S-video port, in three different TV's, and there is no picture.
I have tried changing the settings in the ATI Catalyst Controll Centre, eg, forcing TV detection, and it detects the TV, however there is no picture on the TV, only grey lines.
If I cange the resoution and Refresh rate I can sort of get an image: [TV Picture|http://members.lycos.co.uk/jtfearnley/Hosting/Images/TV.jpg]
But this is the best thing.
In the past I have used all three television sets with my P300 using direct S-Video, so I do not understand why it will not work with this adapter.
Also, I know that this isn't a Dell forum, but I am not a member there, and this question is also concerning my Toshiba notebook, as it would be useful to be able to use the adapter for RCA instead of S-Video.
    Thanks

    Hi
From my knowledge the VGA port can be used only in connection with an external monitor/LCD but not with the TV.
The point is that the common PAL TV (not LCD or plasma) supports a max resolution of 720 X 576px at 50Hz (NTSC 720 X 480 at 60Hz).
As far as I know only the s-video port provides such resolution.
The VGA port provides higher resolutions which are supprted by most external monitors.
However, I never connected the notebook to TV via VGA port so I can provide only some assumptions.
Of course it could be possible that the VGA to S-Video and RCA adapter is not fully compatible.
I read on different pages that cheap no-name adapters dont work as it should.

  • Satellite P300 keeps crashing and giving me blue screens

    Hello,
I got a Satellite P300, operating on Windows Vista home premium and its provided with a ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650.
My laptop keeps crashing and giving me blue screens and windows says its the cause ls my graphic driver and the eror message is Atikmdag.
I tried everything (i think), i re-installes windows but this i had to do with making a recovery cd with the current settings because in some kinda way my F8 function doesn't work so i couldn't restore my Windows from my hard drive.
I also got the latest Ati drivers, this doesn't help either, i also re-installed them and tried to run my laptop on the windows drivers, this doesn't help either.
I really don't know what to do, can some one help me please?

Are you sure that you are running video drivers downloaded from a Toshiba site? Unfortunately the drivers may not be the root of the problem so it is important to eliminate them as the cause. AMD's recommended driver removal procedure is at [http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/GPU57RemoveOldGraphicsDrivers.aspx] and if you follow that with an installation of Toshiba drivers then your laptop should be in an as supplied state
I'd recommend you look at this [How to troubleshoot Display driver stopped responding and has recovered, ATIKMDAG.sys type errors|http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/737-27116RadeonSeries-ATIKMDAGhasstoppedrespondingerrormessages.aspx]

  • Satellite P300-1FY - BSOD due video driver issue

    Hi,
I've bought this laptop a good month ago to replace my old one that had crashed beyond repair and I've been having problems with the video drivers ever since. I initially hoped the problem would solve itself since I am in the middle of my exams and I really don't have time too much extra time to spend on mending it myself, and I also can't give it back to the store since I need certain software for my exams.
So the problem I think lies with the video drivers for the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3470 graphic card. Whilst I am working on my laptop my screen all of a sudden turns black and my computer freezes (including very unpleasant sound when I'm playing music at the time) an after 5 seconds it flashes back into live and displays a message saying a beelschermstuurprogramma werkte niet perfect en is nu herstela. In English this would be something like s video drivers were not functioning correctly and have now been repaired.
This is of course hugely irritating but it became even more so a couple of weeks ago when I first got a blue screen because of a similar error. Leading me to lose half a hour of work on my laptop. (and as anyone who has ever had exams knows, half an hour is not something you can always afford to lose) I ran the wizard and it sent me to the ATI website to look for drivers.
The inconvenience is that I've been able to find a lot of drivers, but none for the 3400 series. After searching internet for a while I finally found some drivers for these series (or they claimed to be), however this installer was corrupt. I also searched the Toshiba website but I didn't find what I was looking for.
The laptop also freezes from time to time without the screen turning all black.
Could someone help me with this issue?
    Louis-Philippe
P.S.: quality of the keyboard is really bad too

First of all you should post the exact BSOD code and what OS do you use. Then we can search on the Microsoft Knowledge Base for this issue and what is the reason for this.
So please post the BSOD code.
Furthermore I dont understand why you cant find a driver on the Toshiba website. The Satellite P300-1FY belongs to the PSPCCE series and therefore I can find a display driver for XP and Vista. So where is the problem? Maybe you should try to install this driver:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com => Support & Downloads => Download Drivers
But before you install the driver, remove the old driver first. Restart the notebook and clean your system with CCleaner. Restart the notebook again and then install the newest version from the Toshiba website.
The display driver on the manufactures website (ATI) doesnt work because its only for desktop cards and not for notebooks. So you cant install it and your notebook is only tested with the Toshiba drivers.
If the new driver doesnt work you should try to update the BIOS too. You can find on the Toshiba page.
    Good luck!!

  • Re: Sometimes my Satellite P300 forgets to load video driver

My laptop (Satellite P300) sometimes "forgets" at startup to load the videodriver.
So the resolution is default in the startup screen of Windows.
Doesn't matter which Windows version I have and all the drivers are up-to-date.
When I restart mostly the problem is solved....

Indeed, its very strange issue but I think it should be possible to solve this driver problem by driver reinstallation even if the driver is already up to date.
I would recommend you to uninstall the GPU driver from device manager.
Reboot the unit and clean the system using 3rd party software called CCLeaner.
Then install the GPU driver again.
The package should be available on the Toshiba EU driver page.
    Good luck

  • VT with Satellite P300 and Intel Core 2 Duo T5750

    Hello there,
i recently bought a new Satellite P300 Notebook to be able to work with virtualisation technics. Unfortuanately, there is no "VT"-mark in the bios. Is there any possibility to activate the "VT"-Technology? I know that there are many posts about this topic, but they aren't very helpfull, because i already looked up my processor and intel says that it is "VT" capable...
Thanks a lot for your answers :-)

I started working as a Computer Technician about 4 weeks ago and this notebook was the cheapest way to try different systems (because it's quick enough!). The company i work for has many different clients who have very many different systems (also 64bit systems) so i wanted to use virtual machines to evaluate different problems... And without VT enabled a can't evaluate a 64bit virtual machine... So, if you are right (what i do think) then i've got a good notebook which is only good for "normal" business or homeuse... But thank you very much for your answer!

  • Satellite P300 and XP - some drivers problems

    Hi there,
My notebook: Toshiba Satellite P300 PSPC4E!
I switched from Windows Vista (preinstalled) to Windows XP Pro SERVICE PACK 2, but I got a few drivers problems:
    1. USB-ROOT-DRIVERS cannot be installed.
Yep this doesn't work. Can't use any USB-Stick and stuff. I installed all drivers from the download page for my Notebook and Win XP for sure.
    2. Mass Storage Drivers cant be installed:
    Errormassage:
"This Computer doesn't have the Requirements to install this Software (translated)"
    3. No WLAN Drivers from the Driver page work :(
Thanks for now. Would be nice to get some help.
    Cheers

    > Installed Win XP without SATA drivers, but changed the SATA value in the BIOS to compatibility! Can I update the SATA drivers now? (xp is installed)
No you cannot install the SATA drivers now because the HDD doesnt run in SATA mode. You changed it in BIOS to compatibility!
And now; if you would change the mode to SATA then you will get a BSOD and you will have to install XP again. So if SATA is set to compatibility mode -> you dont need to install the SATA drivers
    > There is no WLan hardware found. Nothing :/
    Check this Toshiba WLan page;
    http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/wlan/
Maybe one of the available WLan drivers will help you

  • Re: Satellite P300 - POST screen blank on booting up and very slow start up

    Hi,
I have a laptop Satellite P300. On booting up vista the microsoft logo comes up and then when the POST screen should be showing me what the bios is checking the screen is blank.
It remains blank for 5 to 10 mins then the pointer appears then it finally goes to the desktop.
I suspect the bios is hanging on something but I can't see cos the screen is blank. I suspect there is a setting somewhere. I can enter the bios but can't find anything in there.
Also regards to the extremely slow boot, I have disabled nearly all the start up programs but it has made no difference.
    Has anyone any ideas?
    Thanks

    Hi
Everything runs slowly but finally the Windows OS boots up properly. Right?
Hmm. you can access the BIOS press F2 immediately after power button has been pressed.
This should allow you to access the BIOS. There you should press F9 to set the BIOS to default settings. Save the changes and reboot the unit again.
Additionally I would recommend checking the HDD. You could use a tool called Drive Fitness Test. This tool can be downloaded for free (google for that).
By the way; did you try to recover the notebook using recover disk?
Maybe you should try this but note; this would format the HDD so backup the date before starting recovery.

  • Satellite P300-13J - S-Video output shows no picture

    Hi,
I need a little help here.
I have P300D-13J and I bought it with OS Vista HP 32-bit. I have tested S-Video output few times after time I bought my computer and it worked fine,no problems.
    But,after a few months I needed S-Video output and I connected cable like any other time I did that(same cable,same TV),and it didn't worked!
I thought it was some software problem, and in that time my copy of Windows 7 HP came. I've installed Windows 7 HP 32-bit on my computer and everything is working super, but I still have the same problem with S-Video output. I need to say that with instalation of W7, I installed all newest drivers from Toshiba web page.
When I try to move screen on TV, I use FN+F5,and it has a button called TV. But if i chose TV,my FN shortcut key blocks and nothing happens.
When I go to Display Settings and connect TV on S-Video,I have second monitor (No.2) and it is called Non PnP Generic Monitor or something like that. I can not change any settings on that monitor, not even a resolution.
So,does anyone has this kind of problems or solution for this?

    Hey Stevan,
I had the same issue that I couldnt see a picture on my external monitor that was connected via S-Video cable. The solution for this problem was very easy: I had to change the TV-standard from NTSC to PAL!
Of course its depending on your country where you life but you can find this option in display driver options.
    Check this!!!
