Satellite P300 - One Key not working on keyboard

Hi all,
Does anyone have a suggested solution to fix a key not working on my laptop? One letter on my keyboard "the letter b" has stopped working.
Laptop is Satellite P300- "PSPCA-01U013"
Thanks :)

Hi Ricco1,
The problem is that single keys cant be replaced so if a certain key doesnt work its time to replace the whole keyboard but dont worry, new keyboards are not so expensive. Just get in contact with an authorized service provider and ask for a new keyboard, the guys are able to order a new one and they can replace it for you if cant do this yourself.
Here you can find a list of all ASPs:

    Hi.

    pls help me

    Hi shamlic,

Yes, there are hundreds of threads here in forum about FN keys and as far as I know the problem could always be solved by reinstalling Value Added Package and Flash Cards Support Utility from official Toshiba European driver download page.
That means you have to remove the old versions first, then restart the computer and install the newest versions.

  • Satellite M40 - FN key not working on XP

    Hi everyone.
I have a Satellite M40 (which is M43 in Australia) model number: PSM43A-1100H, Running on a XP home edition.
The FN key is working but not functioning with others (F6,F7,F8 for screen brightness and wireless).
    I would appreciate any help.
    thanks in advance.
    Cheers
    Jax

As mentioned, try reinstalling Common Modules, and the other components that may be related to the keyboard.
If Windows has not been reinstalled for years, you might want to consider backing up your documents and running Recovery.
I myself do this on my laptop since Windows can get corrupted and slow after a while due to power losses, viruses, etc..

  • Certain keys not working on keyboard

When attempting to hit the "O" key and or the "P" key it hits the letter above and or around the requested keys. Does anyone else have a problem when attempting to text someone and you can't hit either key? Extremely frustrating!

Yes, the "magic rice trick" doesnt work.
    inexpensive repair? No.
Liquid spills, why your MacBook chassis is a one-way valve for spills
After a substantial spill many people will turn their notebook upside down and shake it, not only does this not work, but it spreads liquid havoc throughout your machine and makes things often as bad as possible.
The keyboard itself acts like a one way valve in the case of a substantial liquid spill. While liquid pours into the bottom chassis easy, it does not come out easily at all, and in the case of any spill, most of it will not come out by turning it upside down. Disconnect all power and contact Apple for diagnostics and repair.
Do not attempt to, after a spill, ‘dry out your MacBook’ and test it
After a spill most people invariably try to “dry out” their notebook by various methods, including hair dryers and otherwise. This both does not work, and after a substantial spill of any magnitude, even if the liquid was water, residue is left behind.
There are additionally many very tight places inside your notebook where liquids will linger for a very long time, and cause corrosion or worse.
Immediately unplug your notebook and contact Apple for in shop diagnostics and parts replacement.
In the case of very minor spills people will “dry out” their notebook and feel success that their notebook is working ok, however invariably in nearly all instances after 4-14 days an error / fault pops up and is usually followed by more.
In case of a spill, damage estimates are impossible,.....anything can be fixed, without question.......the question is cost.
contact Apple for in shop diagnostics and cost estimation ....possible parts replacement.

  • Satellite A500 fn keys not working at all after windows 7 upgrade

    Hi everyone,
I'm using Satellite A500 which i just did the windows 7 upgrade (32 bit) yesterday, however, i can no longer use the FN key on the keyboard which i'd use it very often.
    can anybody help??? much appreciated!!
    mav

    Hi, thanks for your reply,
I'd some search on the forum, however, there're some similar issue, but they are not A500 model, so i m not sure it's reference.
yeah i did download and install the value added package, and restarted my flash cards, and i did change the setting of the flash card, at least now i can use it by moving my mouse to the top of the screen and they pop up. but yet, the FN key still not working at all.
i couldnt really find "common modules" or "hot key" to download, could anyone post the link here? if that would make my FN key work just like before?
    Thanks alot!

  • A few keys not working - faulty keyboard?

    Hi,
A friend of mine (honest!) spilt a v.small amount of water on her keyboard on her 2.16ghz 17" MBP and decided to dry it out using a hair dryer.
One melted keyboard later and I was asked to replace her keyboard for her.
So having bought and fit a new keyboard, keys are not working and 1 is intermittant. These keys are: f10, f11, 0, - and p ([ is intermittant).
They are all grouped together near the top right of the keyboard.
Twice I have tried to ensure the keyboard ribbon cable is firmly in place and it seems to be. Is the new keyboard I bought likely to be faulty and there needs returning, or could this be some other problem.
Thanks in advance for all your thoughts!
    Dominic

Did the new keyboard come with a new cable? You might want to carefully examine the cable under strong magnification and look for any breaks that might correspond to the keys that are not working or not working properly.
Also, try an external keyboard. If you have the same situation on an external, there is some problem other than the replacement keyboard.
For future reference for your friend, you NEVER want to use a hair drier on a water spill. The best thing to do is to turn the Mac off, remove the battery, and lay it keyboard down on a towel for several days. You want all the water to drain out and any internal residue to dry completely before putting power to the machine again. Most of the time, the water will dry and everything will work again.
The forced air from the hair drier could have blown water deeper into the machine and there could be some residue causing problems. When you take the machine apart to check the cable, also check for any remaining moisture that could still be causing problems. If the machine had not been allowed to dry for several days, it needs to.
    Good luck!

  • Satellite M30: FN keys not working after IE7 installation

I installed IE7 and noticed that the fn keys no longer work. (Satellite M30)
I am not sure if that was the catalyst because I'm not sure how long the problem has existed for.
The only ones I use often are FN+f6 and +f7.
I really need to be able to adjust the brightness of the screen. Any and all help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Hi
First of all the display brightens can be changed also in the Toshiba Power Saver utility.
But its very strange that after the IE7 update the FN keys stopped working. I have installed the IE7 on my notebook and the FN keys still work fine.
So maybe its a simply something wring in the registry. Who knows ?:|
I would recommend reinstalling the Common Modules.
    Maybe it helps!

  • Satellite P850 - FN keys not working

I recently purchased a Toshiba p850/049 laptop and reformatted it for windows 7 64x (from windows 8). After installing all of the Toshiba software etc everything was working fine although just recently I have noticed that the special function keys have stopped working. They definitely worked after I reformatted the computer because I remember being initially annoyed that every time I went to refresh a webpage (f5) it would switch of the trackpad as I was unfamiliar with the new configuration.
I thought the issue may be due to the 'Logitech setpoint' software I installed but I have since uninstalled that and the problems remains. I then tried uninstalling then reinstalling the value added package and the HW setup software and then checking all of the flash card/keyboard settings.
I then tried checking the BIOS setting with no luck. No matter what configuration I have it set to the special keys do not work. When I have it set to "special function keys" and press any of the function buttons, the keyboard lights up but nothing happens, in this mode if I press fn+function keys they work in their normal fashion ie spell check or refresh or full screen etc. When I have it set to "normal f1-12 function keys" the same applies in that f5 refreshes successfully but fn+f5 does nothing. I have tried playing around with the settings in accessibility and HW set up and flash cards and in BIOS with no effect (It seems that changing the setting in HW set up and bios change each other and vice versa).
It seems no matter what I have it set to the keyboard seems to be unable to access the special function key option. I recently got sp1 for win 7 64x, could this be part of the problem? I am not entirely sure when the keys stopped working but I do know they did work after reformatting to windows 7.
    any help would be appreciated

    Hi
Did you restart the Flash Cards Utility which can be found under:
All Programs -> Toshiba -> restart Flash Cards
Additionally you should also install the Flash Card Support Utility next to VAP (value added package)
This utility can be found here:

  • Satellite A350 - FN keys not working after Windows 7 installation

Sorry for my bad english, i am forum Portugal and i don't are very good at english.
1 I installed Windows 7 on my pc, installed the drivers 7 and FN was to give. However I had another problem and had to format the pc again, now install everything again and functionality not the FN.
2 Without the drive functionality that is FN + F6/F7 brightness works. But with the drive not installed anything. It seems they are in conflict.
3 The bar at the top of the screen that appeared no longer appears. But if I go to Start -> All Programs -> TOSHIBA -> Utilities -> Settings for TOSHIBA E-cards. With it open, squeeze "Allow the mouse to show the cards" and they appear at the top, as hidden. But just gives me no way, I wish to give to the FN.
Anyone know how this is resolved?? It gave me immense way and even have tried everything, installed everything, there is nothing to block the FN key? A feature that blocks this key?? Please help me.
My PC as it says in the title is Toshiba Sattelite A350D 10Y PSALME....

To enable Fn key functionality, you need to install:
    TOSHIBA Value Added Package (v1.2.28)
Utility Support Driver for Windows 7 (v1.0.25.5C)
If you installed Vista version of those packages, it may not work properly.
You need to Windows 7 versions specifically for the A350

  • Launch Keys not working on keyboard

I have a keyboard with some special launch keys.  I am able to set some of them with KDE's global shortcuts settings, but others aren't recognized when I try to set them as the trigger.  They are recognized in dmesg though as unknown keys.  How do I get these buttons to work?
    Thanks.

I've had no luck following this page https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ma … o_keycodes
I'm using a PS/2 keyboard, not USB.  I'm having no luck either using the hwdb or setkeycoads.  I just can't seem to get KDE to recognize the key.

  • Satellite A130: Fn key not working with Vista - only FlashCards

    Hi,
I have been looking around in the forums but I couldn't find solutions to my problem.
I have a satelite A130 and I am running a windows VISTA home basic. I have a problem with my fn functions.
I can only use the flash cards on top of my screen, just by sliding my mouse up on top of my screen.
The "fn" key works only when I start my computer, at the start up but when the computer runs, there is nothing else I could use but my mouse to show my flash cards and use them.
Is there anything I could do?
    Thanks

I have found solution, download from Canadian Toshiba site Toshiba Flash Cards Support Utility via http://209.167.114.38/support/Download/ln_byModel.asp and all will be correct. Don't understand why this driver not included in europian site.
