Satellite P300D-110 won't start-up normally

My P300-100D won't start-up normally.
It hangs after showing the announcement that Windows is being started.
First I have to start-up in Safe-mode, and if I'm lucky it will start normal after choosing 'restart".
The strange thing is that this problem only appears after the laptop has been shut-down for some time.
If I start up short after a shutdown, there seems to be no problem. I'm using Windows Vista Home Premium with SP1.
Anyone any idea?
Tnx in advance!

A couple of things to think about or try in order to burrow further into the problem:
1/
If you hibernate or go to standby rather than shut down, what happens?
2/
What is "a long time"? We could be waiting "a long time" for your reply to #1 above. I was wondering whether your CMOS battery was not holding its charge or something. That's a long shot.

  • Satellite P300D-110 integrated webcam is not functioning properly.

    Hello everyone,
as the title says, the integrated webcam of my Toshiba Satellite P300D-110 is not functioning properly. Allow me to explain. Using the Camera Assistance Software I can take photo's and record music. If I try to record a video the preview screen turns up black and the end result tuns out black aswell, completely black.
Whenever I try to use my camera with applications such as MSN Live Messenger, Skype or at community websites using Firefox, Internet Explorer or Safari the application in question crashes.
    *How did this happen?*
    You tell me. This is how it went;
    * Day 1: I've started up my laptop and looked at my fresh and clean install of windows vista home premium. I tried out my webcam using the webcam assistance software and it worked like a charm.
    * Day 2: Once again I boot up my laptop and try to start my webcam only to find out that it no longer functions.
    To give a quick summary of the thread;
    * Using Camera Assistance Software provided by Toshiba I can take pictures.
    * Using Camera Assistance Software provided by Toshiba I can record sound.
    * Using Camera Assistance Software provided by Toshiba I can _*NOT*_ record or preview a video.
    * I can not start my camera using any other application such as but not limited to; MSN Live Messenger, Skype, Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer and Safar.
    * I have downloaded and isntalled the latest drivers from the Toshiba website.
    * My laptop is about a week old.
I'm not sure what more I can do, all I want is for the webcam to work, if anyone can help me out please do so.
And if possible WITHOUT having to reinstall Windows Vista Home Premium.
I haven't even used it and wouldn't want to make that a solution for all the problems that might occur in the future.
    Sincerely,
    a sad customer.

Using Camera Assistance Software provided by Toshiba I can NOT record or preview a video.
Can you please describe the steps how you try to do this? I must ask you this because it runs well on my notebook. When the recording is finished player opens and you can see recorded movie. It is avi format and at the top of this player you can see the path where the movie is saved.
Most strange thing for me is that you cannot use it with Skype. Ok for MSN is not the perfect but there is absolutely no problem with Skype. Check the settings and it must work somehow.

  • Satellite L30 PSL33E won't start at all - LED flashes six times

    Hello,
My poor mother is quite distraught! Her Satellite L30 PSL33E has just died.
It completely shut down and now won't start at all.
Orange light flashes six times when the power button is pressed.
No hard drive, fan, screen or any other noise / activity.
She has tried it without the battery.
Some sort of hardware failure I imagine.
Any ideas what this blink code means?
    Thanks in advance,
    D.

I dont know what the code means but you can read it; short means 0 and long means 1
Anyway, the error code means that an hardware fault was detected on the motherboard and only the motherboard replacement could help you?
    Why?
because is really hard to repair a notebooks motherboard.
Its mostly not possible if you dont have enough knowledge, experience and special tools.
I think either you will contact the ASP in your country and will ask for a fix or you will have to buy a new notebook ;(

  • Satellite P300-13M won't start at all

    Hello everybody,
my Satellite P300 - 13M with product number PSPC4E won't start at all!
When I put down my screen, it automatically goes in hibernation mode. But the last time I did this was just too much apparently.. I've ejected my battery and put the adapter in to see if it would start. Negative. I've put the battery back and ejected the adapter. Negative. I've connected both the battery and adapter. Negative, no result at all.
Does this mean the end of my laptop?
Please help me as fast you guys can because this is my only working laptop.
    Many thanks
Ps if you want specifications, then i cannot give you them. I don't know the specs by heart.

On this virtual way it is not easy to say what is wrong there but if there is no reaction at all Im afraid mainboard is death.
In my opinion repair is probably not the solution. New motherboard costs a lot of money. Either you can find used one, maybe refurbished and exchange it or sell notebook on eBay and buy new one.

  • Satellite Pro 2100 won't start at all - LED start flashing

My SP2100 has started having power problems, and now won't start at all. The AC adapter green LED is on, as are the relevant lights on the laptop body (although the 'battery charging' light always stays orange these days). When I attempt switch on, boot up starts (and has in fact been successful on occasion until this morning), however the battery indicator and the adapter lights start flashing, and everything shuts down again.
On the rare occasions when I get past this stage, the lights keep flashing, and the system soon shuts down again with a 'low battery' screen message. Until this morning, it would sometimes settle down, the computer stayed on, and the lights showed a steady state as normal.
I initially thought that the problem was obviously the battery or the AC adapter, but now I'm beginning to think that it lies with laptop's internal power adapter (although I suspect that the battery is probably shot following all this part charging and discharging).
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
I think you are right. Flashing LEDs are a sign that some hardware is faulty.
I can't say what's exactly the problem, this should be checked by a technicain.
On the other side I'm not sure if it is worth to repair such an old machine.
    Bye

  • Satellite L40-139 won't start

    ?02-19-2014 06:41 PM - edited ?02-19-2014 06:45 PM
Hello, i have a problem with SATELLITE L40-139
the thing is when i press power button, hard drive diode starts to flash, diode on cd-rom is lighted and the screen is black. I noticed that electornics in the CD-ROM makes a sound tick in the same way the hdd diode flashes (when it flashes i hear a tick form cd-rom, yes i unfolded whole notebook).
I can only say that i connected HDD to my PC and it's working., well fan isn;t working too but i think it will start, after some time (like always it did)
Now lets say about notebook crash circumstances: That was a year ago, it fell from 1 inch (such height ;]) i saw that ribbon cable that was connecting touchpad to the mohterboard was broken, and my computer diidn't start, i thought theres a problem, but i forgot about it and left the notebook for over 9 months (with disassebled hdd, cd-rom and battery) then i decided to try to switch it on.
And viola! it works it boots etc.
So after a month of being happy i got drunk that i couldn't sit on chair and i decided to lie with my laptop on bed, i just lied down and put notebook on my stomach and it crashed (freezed screen) i decided to reboot it, but it won't start.
Heres a video with what i get during powering it up: [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jC0pGBBVwJk] (not luckily my phone fell into mud and lags when i record videos)
Some people suggested that i should connect external display to see if theres any image, but the result is still the same. (Screen does not even power on)
Maybe someone could help me fix it without sending it to customer service.
    Cheers.

I think the notebook overheated or something like that
Maybe its just an RAM problem and therefore it would be useful to test the unit in connection with new, tested RAM modules but this is only an idea
As Dr.Lamp already said, in worst case it might be a motherboard problem and this would mean that notebook fix would be a costly affair.

  • Satellite A105-S4164 - won't start only blank screen

    Hi all,
I have a Toshiba Satellite A105-S4164 laptop that won't start.
I thought that perhaps there is a problem with the battery. I took the battery out and then hooked up the laptop to the electrical outlet, made no difference. The blue lights in front the laptop, come on, but I don't hear any noise from the mother board or the fan. The laptop is purchased in July of 2006 and it is out of warranty.
All I see is the blank screen.
My guess is that the mother board must be replaced. I also had kept up with Symantic Anti virus and also windows XP upgrades prior to April 1, 2009.
    Thank you for your feedback.
    Seyed

Can you see a picture on an external monitor?
Well I think in this case the notebook should be checked by notebook technician. You should contact an ASP and ask for help. This would be the best way because the technician can make sure what parts are faulty.

  • Satellite Pro 460 won't start with new hard drive in

I recently got a Satellite Pro 460 but it had no hard drive in.
It starts great with no drive in but as soon as I put a brand new hard drive in it won't start.
I thought that it might be to new a hard drive so I took my old working drive out my old Toshiba Satellite and still it won't start.
Any one got any ideas why this is and what can i do about it

It sounds like 80GB is too large for that model, I really doubt the BIOS and Chipset can support more than 8GB HDD. 8GB may not even work.
Here is some information regarding different HDD modes and limitations: http://www.adminxp.com/hardware/index.php?aid=129
504MB - limitation where the system is limited by the compatibility with the values of the BIOS system and the ATA interface by help of using the CHS mode. This limitation is valid for older computers 286/386/486. (1024 cyl 16 heads x 63sectors/track x 512 = 528,482,304bytes - 504 MB). In many cases special programs will help (Disk Ontrack Manager - Seagate, Disk Wizard - WD). Some operating systems can have problems with this software support and can have higher requirements on your knowledge of the OS and used programs.
2GB - Limitation of the maximal value of the FAT16 file system partition for DOS and Windows 9x. Some older computers cannot address more than 4095 cylinders (4,095 x 16 x 63x 512 - 2,113,413,120 bytes)
4GB Limitation of Windows NT - Partition with the FAT16 system cannot be higher than 4GB - Fdisk cannot be used for creating, but the Disk manager is used (Disk management in Windows 2000)
8GB - Limitation of the BIOS system. For the support of larger capacities you need extended functions of the BIOS system. Limitations valid for the x86 computers and some motherboards with Pentium and Pentium II processors. Some other operating systems must know how to use the extended BIOS functions (Extended Interrupt 13). We can use Windows NT 4.0 as an example where you need an updated disk driver or the Service Pack. (OS - DOS 6.xx and lower, Windows 3.x and lower and some other older OS do not have the support of the Ext. Int13).
8 GB - Limitation of the FDISK program in the DOS 6.22 OS.
?? GB - Possible problem with disks larger than 67GB under Windows 9x... See article WD800
    32GB - (65535 x 16 x 63 x 512 - 33,822,351,360 bytes) other limitation of the BIOS system.
68GB - Possible problem with disks larger than 67GB under Windows 9x... See article WD800
137GB - Limit for the ATA specifications (28-bit addressing for particular sectors - 268435455 sectors - 137,438,952,960 bytes)
2,2 TBytes - 32-bit addressing used by new operating systems (in Windows 98 by help of the FAT32 file system).
144 PetaBytes - a limit for new ATA specification using 48-bit addressing, in peparation. Maxtor, Microsoft, VIA, Compaq and other companies under name Big Drives participate the development. The standard should be implemented and authorized by the ANSI NCITS T13 Technical Committee organization (www.t13.org) in the prepared ATA/ATAPI-6 standard (see www.maxtor.com/bigdrive)

  • Satellite L500-1DT won't start

    Hi
My Satellite L500-1DT laptop won't start it goes into the start-up repair procedure automatically viewing the diagnostic and repair details it says it cannot determine what the problem is.
If I select the advanced options I am asked to select a key board but then I get a message that says you must logon on to gain access to the repair functions and all I can do then is reboot.
If I press F8 and try safe mode I just get the same repair features. I don't know what to do to proceed as all the options take me to the same place. Any help would be appreciated
    Thanks

When you press F8 at start up can you see option Repair my computer?
    Have you created recovery DVD?

  • MacBook Pro won't start in normal mode and won't open in safe mode.

My Mac suddenly won't open in normal mode. It just stays on the apple logo and won't continue. Then, I tried going on Safe Mode. Unfortunately, it only loads up to the Apple Logo with the progress bar below it. I would load one-third the bar and shut down completely. What do I do?

Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks without erasing drive
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks
OS X Mavericks- Reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet
if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Satellite P100-286 won't start anymore

    Hi,
I have a P100-286 which I don't use very often but today I tried to switch it on and all I get is a flash from the lights near the speakers and the power light comes on for a few seconds then nothing.
The battery light is lit up red but it also won't start if I take the battery out a connect it to the mains?
Is it likely the laptop is dead or could it just be the battery?
I have only had it a few months and don't use it very often so the battery has not been under much load

    Hmm sounds not good!
    Try this firstly;
Remove the battery and disconnect the AC adaptor for about 20min.
After this short period, connect the battery and the AC adaptor again and try to start the notebook.
If this simply procedure does not help, you will have to contact the ASP in your country for a notebook check.
    Your feedback is greatly appreciated.

  • Satellite L10-333 won't start up

    I have a Toshiba L10-333
and for no reason it has decided it doesn't want to start up anymore.
Basically, you can turn it on..it will come up the toshiba screen (where u can press f12 etc) then it goes straight to the screen which says it wasn't previously shut down properly. So you have to select from the following start windows normally, start in safe mode, start in safe mode with promt, start in safe mode with networking. BUT....when selecting any one of these option, it does nothing. goes to a black screen and stays that way until you get angry and turn it off.
oh and when start in any of the safe mode option it reals of a list of things and then stops at one of the lines.
    Please help :D
p.s I tried the recovery disk, it goes through all the stages but when it goes to restart..same thing happens.

Im wondering about that the recovery disk didnt solve the problem. Normally this seems like a Windows problem
I can not say what is the problem but in your case I would check the HDD with Drive Fitness Test:
    http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/support/download.htm#DFT
With the Drive Fitness Test you can test your HDD. Download the CD image, burn it on a CD and boot from it. Then you can the HDD.
On the same website is a user guide if you want to know more.

I accidently dropped it and now when i turn it on i get to the start windows normally screen, but after selecting an option the screen just goes black. The backlight is on and its still running, I've checked that nothing is lose and tried a couple of solutions but they haven't worked.
    Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

    > I accidently dropped it and now when i turn it on i get to the start windows normally screen, but after selecting an option the screen just goes black
Sounds for me like the video output has been set to external monitor.
Did you check if you can see something on external display?
Check the FN + F5 switch.
If this doesnt help, then you should check if new Recovery procedure would help you to fix this otherwise you will need a help from notebook technician.

No, Vista 64Bit won't solve your problem. The fact is, that this notebook model only supports a maximum of 2GB Ram in total. So, you can only use one of your 2GB memory module.
If you do so, notebook will boot up again.

  • Compaq Mini 110 won't start after cleaning Think Point virus

    Hi
I'm helping my daughter with the following problem with her Compaq mini 110.
After removing the Think Point virus according to advice in different places the mini 110 don't boot after power on. The choice of pressing F10 (BIOS setup) and F9 (boot order) appears. If I don't touch any key at startup it starts accessing the hard disk for a few seconds, according to the hard disk LED and hard disk sound. Then it stops the boot procedure. Somewhere on the HP web site I read that pressing F11 repeatedly during boot would give the opportunity to choose operatings system recovery from the recovery partition. It doesn't respond to F11. Setting boot device priority doesn't seem to be a solution, since there is only one choice, so I can't force it into the recovery. I would appreciate any advice how to proceed. Below I add som additional facts.
Some threads on the forum mentions pressing F6 for recovery funktions, but it doesn't respond. There also ought to be some function on F12, but I can't figure out what. Doesn't respond anyway. Any explanation for F6 or F12?
    Thanks,
