Satellite P300D - No picture through S-Video output

Hi!
I can't get picture through my S-video output on TV. VGA and HDMI works ok, but my TV is older and I don't have that kind of inputs on TV.
The laptop recognizes TV over the cable, but I can't switch between primary and secondary display.
(satellite P300D-12L)

Hi
Listen dude;
First of all you have to choose s-video channel on your TV.
Check the TV settings!
Before you would start any video application, you have to choose TV output pressing FN + F5
If video playback software like WinDVD is already running, then you would not be abele toggle between TV and notebook display so firstly switch to TV and then start the software.

  • Satellite 5105 and 5205 exhibit bad video output (US)

The external video's good on the 5105.
The LCD image will not give a complete picture. The bottom third is either whited out or replicates the top third of the image. I most likely see a white or grey washout. This happened upon startup, too.
I replaced the LCD with another from a defunct 5205. This time, only the top third shows an image. The bottom 2/3 seem to be blacked out.
Also, the Toshiba Spalsh screen logo does not appear upon startup (perhaps that's because it's in the blackout area).
I haven't verified the condition of the 5205 LCD. I also neglected to connect this laptop to external video when I used the
    5205 LCD.
I just want to confirm the video cable needs replacing.
I would like to know how to completely detach the palm rest from the bottom chassis. I've been reading the instruction provided by the sticky thread. I get stuck at the point where the palm rest has detached except for the "top" area around the speakers. Better yet, what cables should I detach before completely detaching the palm rest?
Once that's done, I plan to replace the video cable, but I also see what looks like a metal shield in the middle of the laptop. Any thoughts on addressing that, too?

I'm afraid I neglected to test the external video on the 5205.
I also posted this on Notebook Review.
    Thanks for reading!

Irisvista was the place where I obtained directions to extract the palm rest, but it did not address any particular issue with the back of the palm rest around the speakers. I'll check again to ensure that all screws have been removed, but if so, I'll still need more direction about how to completely remove that palm rest.
Chips soldered onto the motherboard can still be soldered in a ball-grid-array. This is important to me as the ball grid array has been the culprit of the XBox 360 RRoD, the iBook (G3) video problem, and some well documented problems with certain Sony Vaios. If these Toshibas also featured the BGA, then I maybe able to use methods and techniques to fix it, similar to those for the aforementioned products.
    Thanks for replying!

  • Satellite P300-13J - S-Video output shows no picture

    Hi,
I need a little help here.
I have P300D-13J and I bought it with OS Vista HP 32-bit. I have tested S-Video output few times after time I bought my computer and it worked fine,no problems.
    But,after a few months I needed S-Video output and I connected cable like any other time I did that(same cable,same TV),and it didn't worked!
I thought it was some software problem, and in that time my copy of Windows 7 HP came. I've installed Windows 7 HP 32-bit on my computer and everything is working super, but I still have the same problem with S-Video output. I need to say that with instalation of W7, I installed all newest drivers from Toshiba web page.
When I try to move screen on TV, I use FN+F5,and it has a button called TV. But if i chose TV,my FN shortcut key blocks and nothing happens.
When I go to Display Settings and connect TV on S-Video,I have second monitor (No.2) and it is called Non PnP Generic Monitor or something like that. I can not change any settings on that monitor, not even a resolution.
So,does anyone has this kind of problems or solution for this?

    Hey Stevan,
I had the same issue that I couldnt see a picture on my external monitor that was connected via S-Video cable. The solution for this problem was very easy: I had to change the TV-standard from NTSC to PAL!
Of course its depending on your country where you life but you can find this option in display driver options.
    Check this!!!

  • S-video output not working for Satellite A60

The s-video output on my laptop is not working. i have tried the Fn-F5 hotkey, but i don't get a damn output on the tv.

    Hi
    First:
    Has it ever worked before?
Yes? then make sure that you don't have a second desktop activated. Go into the displaysettings and rightclick the second screen. Make sure it is not set to "attached".
If your machine also have a composite out, try using that instead.
    Does it work?
If yes, your machine is at least software-wise able to output the picture to the TV.
If no, then there is probably something in the software that stops the picture from going out to TV.
It could of course also be a hardware related problem but it is less prabable that both the s-video and the composite-ports are defective.
Try checking the settings for your videodriver.
    No?
If an s-video cable was delivered with your computer, make sure to use that one.
Check the s-video cable with a traditional DVD. This way see if the cable and in-port on your TV is ok.
If you are using the cable that came with your PC then you should defenitely check for settings in the videodriver.
If it is not the cable that came with your PC (or no cable was delivered with your PC) try check the manual for hints on a compatible cable.
Sorry for the quite messy respons - it is not easy to write a think-flowchart here.
    Good luck

  • Satellite P300D-110 integrated webcam is not functioning properly.

    Hello everyone,
as the title says, the integrated webcam of my Toshiba Satellite P300D-110 is not functioning properly. Allow me to explain. Using the Camera Assistance Software I can take photo's and record music. If I try to record a video the preview screen turns up black and the end result tuns out black aswell, completely black.
Whenever I try to use my camera with applications such as MSN Live Messenger, Skype or at community websites using Firefox, Internet Explorer or Safari the application in question crashes.
    *How did this happen?*
    You tell me. This is how it went;
    * Day 1: I've started up my laptop and looked at my fresh and clean install of windows vista home premium. I tried out my webcam using the webcam assistance software and it worked like a charm.
    * Day 2: Once again I boot up my laptop and try to start my webcam only to find out that it no longer functions.
    To give a quick summary of the thread;
    * Using Camera Assistance Software provided by Toshiba I can take pictures.
    * Using Camera Assistance Software provided by Toshiba I can record sound.
    * Using Camera Assistance Software provided by Toshiba I can _*NOT*_ record or preview a video.
    * I can not start my camera using any other application such as but not limited to; MSN Live Messenger, Skype, Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer and Safar.
    * I have downloaded and isntalled the latest drivers from the Toshiba website.
    * My laptop is about a week old.
I'm not sure what more I can do, all I want is for the webcam to work, if anyone can help me out please do so.
And if possible WITHOUT having to reinstall Windows Vista Home Premium.
I haven't even used it and wouldn't want to make that a solution for all the problems that might occur in the future.
    Sincerely,
    a sad customer.

Using Camera Assistance Software provided by Toshiba I can NOT record or preview a video.
Can you please describe the steps how you try to do this? I must ask you this because it runs well on my notebook. When the recording is finished player opens and you can see recorded movie. It is avi format and at the top of this player you can see the path where the movie is saved.
Most strange thing for me is that you cannot use it with Skype. Ok for MSN is not the perfect but there is absolutely no problem with Skype. Check the settings and it must work somehow.

  • Bad Video Output -- with example

I've seen several people complain about the poor quality of the video output from FCE and this is something I've experienced myself so I'd like to find a solution. When people make these posts about quality, the usual response is that there must be some sort of user error or bad input. If that's the case, then the "correct" way to convert video remains a mystery to many of us. Let's shine some light on that dark corner...
To wit, here's a sample screen capture showing the original .MOV file from my camera on the left and the output of FCE on the right:
    http://www.photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=5215575
Clearly something went awry in the conversion process, but it's nothing I've done explicitly. Perhaps you can help me identify what did go wrong, why it went wrong, and how to avoid it in the future.
    First some details.
The original input file (on the left) came from a Canon SD700-IS camera and was put through a File|Save As process in Quicktime Pro to make it a proper .MOV file. Viewing the video clip within FCE, it looks just as good as the source version.
But once I've exported the entire sequence to a file, the video looks kinda crappy -- like in the frame on the right. Part of the issue is stretching the source 640x480 to NTSC 720x480, but beyond that it looks like the compression was done very poorly. Things are just a LOT blurrier and there's very little contrast.
The bottom line is -- what are some of us just simply not seeing.
    Cheers,
    ALF
    Powermac Dual G5 2.3Ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

Hopefully this helps explain my understanding better...
I'm familiar with MJPG, but the video is not MJPG when I put it into FCE. The picture on the left has already been converted by Quicktime.
While MJPG is a series of JPG images and each individual JPG image is compressed slightly (I don't do lots of compression in the camera), the point I was making is that each of these frames is a key frame. When QT or FCE or anything else converts such a file it has a WEALTH of information to use and therefore image quality shouldn't degrade.
One of the things I don't understand is the insistence that upsampling is occurring. While FCE may indeed be upsampling, it SHOULD NOT BE because I've centered the input video within the 720x480 DV frame. No scaling need occur.
This is akin to making something smaller than 720x480 in After Effects, for example, and importing to FCE as an overlay for something. There should be no quality degradtion because that's not being scaled to 720x480 either -- it's just a small part of the screen.
There also isn't an issue with frame rate because, as I mentioned, the source video is 30fps. Any suggestion otherwise is assuming 15fps for the source video, which is incorrect.
The only thing that leaves as a factor is interlacing -- the source video is most certainly not interlaced. So as I understand things right now, the loss in video quality I've seen is due to artifacts introduced by interlacing and delta-compression. Because I've seen lots of example of delta compression which don't look this bad, I'm hoping there's some way I can tweak the amount of compression or something. Not much I can do about interlacing, though.
As to the camcorder issue, the reason I said it's not germane is because it's the data that's important rather than where it came from. I could just as easily get a 640x480 Quicktime, AVI, or MPEG file as source and see the same type of degradation (I've done it).
The problem is how FCE treats 640x480 (or anything less than 720x480) video. By default it does indeed upscale to fill the full DV frame. But it also provides the ability to drop smaller video onto part of the frame as well as the ability to scale video within the frame.
So if FCE is putting my 640x480 video through a scaling process to place it as a centered 640x480 image in the 720x480 frame, and scaling that again for DVD out put, then yeah I can see where degradation would occur. I just don't believe it should be doing that first scaling.
I also don't understand why interlacing would cause so much degradation, but as has been said it could be the combination of that and the (unnecessary) scaling.

  • Media Live multiple video output

I am considering buying a Media Live barebone as my HTPC.  The only thing holding me back is determining whether or not I am able to output to 2 different monitors as 2 separate displays.
My goal is to mount a touchscreen monitor (encased in a custom picture frame) on a wall to act as a hub for my media center.  It would connect to the Media Live HTPC via VGA to show the XP MCE interface.  I would be able to control audio and video from this monitor.  Also, when not in use, it would scroll through pictures in the screen saver.  The HTPC would then connect to my receiver via HDMI.  It would output audio and video to my LCD TV.
So basically, what I am looking to do, is control audio and video output to my TV from my touchscreen monitor.  If this is not possible, I could deal with displaying the same output on both the touchscreen and the TV, however I wish to use HDMI to keep high quality output.  So, I run in to the issue of my touchscreen monitor not having an HDMI port.
    Any ideas?

I am not absolutely sure if I got you right, but the MSI Media Live barebone IS able to run two displays at the same time. I have got my HDTV connected via HDMI (signal passed through my Yamaha RX-V863 receiver) and a small touchscreen display via VGA, too at the same time. I think they cannot show different information at the same time but you can clone the screen on both displays.
You just should not forget that most VGA displays cannot show full HD resolution, so if you do not own a receiver for upscaling your HDMI signal to full HD you will have to enjoy your video on TV in the same resolution as on the VGA touchscreen (mostly 800x600 pixels => 720p). But with a AV receiver connected for upscaling the signal you can show information on a small touchscreen and (cloned) information on your HD TV in full HD at the same time.
There is only one thing that sucks: If you want to switch off or on your TV while the barebone is already running, you will get a video driver error since you "unplug" or "plug"  a non usb device while the system is running. So the video driver will be restored and you will have to repeat the procedure of activating the TV output and cloning the touchscreen's signal onto the TV (if you have bad luck you will even have to reboot the system before you can use the TV for cloned video output since the OS will not recognize the TV any more without a restart). By the way you can avoid this problem when you are using a AV receiver by keeping the receiver switched on while the barebone is switched on because then the output source will not vanish and Windows will be "satisfied".

  • How can I do live streaming with a Mac Book Pro 2011, using a new model of Sony HD camcorder which does not have firewire out/input? it comes only with a component video output, USB, HDMI and composite RCA output?

I need to do live streaming with a Mac Book Pro 2011, using a new model of Sony HD camcorder (http://store.sony.co...ber=HDRAX2000/H) ..this camcorder model does not have firewire out/input ..it comes only with a component video output, USB, HDMI and composite A/V video output..
I wonder how can I plug this camcorder to the firewire port of my laptop? Browsing on internet I found that Grass Valley Company produces this converter http://www.amazon.co...=A17MC6HOH9AVE6 ..but I am not sure -not even after checking the amazon reviews- if this device will send the video signal through firewire to my laptop, in order to live streaming properly? ..anyone in this forum could help me please?
    Thanx

I can't broadcast with the built in iSight webcam... how would I zoom in or zoom out? or how would I pan? I've seem people doing it walking with their laptops but that's not an option for me... there's nothing wrong with my USB ports but that's neither an option to stream video because as far as I know through USB you can't connect video in apple operating systems ..you can for sure plug any video cam or photo camera through usb but as a drive to transfer data not as a live video camera...  is by firewire an old interface developed by apple that you can connect all sorts of cameras to apple computers... unfortunately my new sony HDR-AX2000 camcorder doesn't have firewire output...

  • MacBook Pro to TV, Video Output Too Dark

    Hi,
    I have an 2010 model 15" MacBook Pro i5.
I got this video converter for Christmas:
    http://www.amazon.com/VideoSecu-VGA2TV-Computer-Presentation-Converter/dp/B000X3 FAJU/ref=sr14?ie=UTF8&qid=1295210644&sr=8-4
Using this in conjunction with an Apple Mini DisplayPort-to-VGA adapter and a standard RCA video cable, I am able to connect my MacBook to my TV so I can stream video from sites like Hulu.
My TV is a Sanyo flat screen CRT that's, probably, 6-7 years old (exact model probably isn't important).
I have no issues with the quality of the video output I'm getting (i.e. resolution, color). The issue I'm having is that the video is too dark. The video looks great on my MacBook screen, but the TV display is too dark. I have tried playing with the settings on the TV and on the converter (through which I can adjust brightness, contrast, saturation, hue, and sharpness) and I can't, for the life of me, get the output to my TV brightened up to an acceptable level.
I have tried to use the display calibration tool in the Mac's display preferences and that didn't seem to help (I'll admit that I don't think I'm doing it correctly).
Can anyone suggest some steps that I might try in order to improve my video output?
    Thanks.

No Answer, but related problem...please see my original post: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2773439&stqc=true

  • S-video output B&W

    Hi,
From time to time I like to connect my PowerBook to TV thorugh S-video (using adapter S-Video to scart) to watch movies with friends etc.
Though, it has been some time (over half a yar) when I last watched a movie on TV that way. Since I know for sure that I have been able to connect my pb to tv via s-video with no problems I can't understand whats wrong now.
Here's the thing. When I connected my PB to a TV now, it shows the picture in black&white on the TV. Anyone know how to get back the colour image? I have the same cable set that I used before to connect to tv (latter is the same one also) without any problems - full colour. So, I think the problem is software-related (maybe os x update).
Can anyone recommend what to do to get the colour back?
    cheers,
    r. pello
P.S. PB's lcd screen works fine. So, problem only with s-video output colour.
    PowerBook G4 (1.67 GHz, 15")   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   iMac (Summer 2000, 120GB HDD)

Have you checked the resolution/TV type in the Displays preference pane once the TV is connected? If your PB is detecting your TV as PAL rather than NTSC (or vice versa), that could certainly cause a loss of colour like you describe.

  • Can't take more than one picture through Messages

I've had this problem since I first received my iPhone 6 and I always thought it just needed a software update, but I'm beginning to think that even that can't help. Basically when I try to choose the 'Take photo or video' option when sending a picture through Messages, I end up with a black screen (not entirely a black screen, but where I should be viewing the photo/video that I'm about to take). I'm only able to use that option once throughout the whole day and then if I try it again some other time all I end up with is a black screen or like today, an image of the last picture I took using that feature. I've tried resetting and rebooting my phone but to no avail. Two other people in my household are also iPhone 6 users and they don't seem to have a problem with this feature. So, not really sure if anyone else has had this problem or it's just me. I wanted to consult someone here first before taking it to the Apple Store to have them take a look at it.

    Something definitely wrong.
There's probably another fix but what I'd do is re-fresh Aperture, and that's easy to do.
Hold down the Alt+Apple keys while turning on Aperture and follow the prompts.

  • Lost S-Video Output

I have been using a G4 Powerbook 17-inch, 1.33 Ghz connected to an NEC VT470 LCD Projector through the S-Video output (Mirroring). It had been working just fine until recently - the s-video output stopped working. The odd part of this is that if I connect through composite video and the s-video to composite adaptor,It works. I have confirmed that the s-video input of the projector works, and i've tried the same thing on a 52" DLP rear-projection TV with the same results - composite video through the composite adaptor but no s-video straight through the s-video output. This makes me wonder if there's just a setting that's been changed or turned off. Another note: the Powerbook will not "detect" the projector when connected through s-video, but it does when using composite through the adaptor. Any ideas?

That does sound like a faulty video card - I just read another post regarding faulty video card - in that case replaced under warraty by Apple.

  • JBL Radial Speaker with an S-Video Output

    Hey.
I'm trying to watch videos that are on my iPod classic. I have a black JBL radial iPod speaker that has an S-Video output. I have plugged in an S-Video cable to both my TV (on the specific S-Video channel) and speaker and have the iPod docked. When I tell my iPod to play a movie I bought from the iTunes store, it comes up with the "TV Out Enabled Please Connect Video Accessory" picture. Any suggestions what I should do? Thanks.

I think this is happening because the iPod classic doesn't support the firewire connection that my speaker uses. Does this sound right?

Concerning: VGA monitors using an Aluminum Powerbook G4 PowerPC 2004 15"-screen 1.5Ghz
The DVI (converted to VGA) video output stopped working on this computer after 9 years of service. This raises question 1:
Is there any way of fixing this? I've tried the usual: triple checked all vga cables & devices through trial & error. Bought a new DVI-VGA adapter. Reset PRAM, PMU, etc. Nothing works. Something is probably damaged, because my KVM switch was not working unless I hot-reseated the vga cable into it, leading to this DVI port, and that is pretty rough stuff.
    Question 2 (related):
This dovetails into this: Can I drive a VGA monitor with the s-video output port on this computer. It would take an s-video (male)-to-15-pin-VGA adapter. Has anyone does this? So far, I haven't even found the adapter mentioned anywhere.
    Thanks for reading this.
    el7

Thanks for the useful feedback, Knucklesmac. I agree. I must have blown something on the logic board -- because I had a faulty old KVM switch that would not switch between computers without some nasty hot-plugging/unplugging the VGA video cables. (wince!). It's like when Dizzy Dean ruined his arm because a line drive hit him in the foot and he readjusted his mechanics around the injury. I take the blame because this has been a great computer, and does not deserve any blame.
If it will help anyone else reading this thread, C2G (née Cables to Go) has some interesting ideas for still getting external video out of this computer:
    -USB-to-VGA
    http://www.cablestogo.com/product/30545
-Convert s-video or composite video signals to high resolution VGA
    http://www.cablestogo.com/product/40971
The price range is $75-$85, which doesn't make horse sense to me for such an old computer -- which has a lot of life in it anyway, because its own 15" monitor is not chopped liver.

  • Video output quality worse than AppleTv 1

Anyone else who owns an atv1 found video looks worse?
I'm not talking about actual video playback but the video output on 2
AppleTV1 looked great through my plasma even though it's not full HD
1080p over hdmi on 1 scaled by the plasma consistently looked best, with crisp but smooth edges to text and GUI.
Atv2 720p over hdmi looks consistently worse - it all looks oversharpened and over contrasty, with text in particular looking very jagged as well as the spinning timer wheel looking pixellated now
Watching a slideshow there seemed to be visible artefacts as some images moved or scaled whereas atv1 just looked silky smooth
Maybe the current GUI text and icons are not as smooth, maybe less antialiasing, poorer quality gpu
Maybe my plasma downscales 720p worse than 1080p - I need to check on the full HD set in another room but first impressions are not that good
Video playback seems strangely artificial too, almost as though the frame rate has been sped up slightly
Weird as the set should handle 50/60Hz without issue

So a few days in it's growing on me.
There's definitely something different about menu graphics but actual video quality for playback is excellent though I'm not sure it's not dropping/catching up frames at times.
I've watched some HD movie trailers and they look excellent.
Video navigation is considerably improved over ATV1, with FF / RW actually working reasonably well when they didn't before over the same connection. Changing chapters gives immediate starts and buffering seems considerably quicker - at least some of this must be due to newer hardware.
I don't like the top level menu much and preferred the older system but you can pretty much stay in Computers to watch own content.
Video playlists don't work properly which is poor but it took ages to get them enabled on ATV1.
There are many glitches but hopefully they'll get ironed out over time.
