Satellite P305 S8842 Problem

Two Separate Problems, Same computer
I've had my laptop for about 2 full years now and it has started to develop a strange problem. Sometimes when I turn it on and it begins to boot up it will suddenly turn off in the middle of booting up. In order for me to be able to use my computer I will have to wait for a while until it is able to boot again. It seems that the longer I wait to turn it back on, the farther it gets in the boot process before it turns off once again. Or if I start a program like a DVD or something the fan will run really loudly and then the computer cuts off once again. Im inclined to think its not an overheating problem because the computer is not hot whatsoever to the touch although I can hear the fan working somewhat loudly. I tried to start in safemode and it gets all the way to where its about to ask you for your password and it turns off right there every time now.
Another thing, a couple of times when Im on my laptop the screen suddenly changed to a weird/static looking screen with a bunch of different colors on it and flicker to different variations until I finally cut the computer off and restart the vicious circle.
My current situation is my laptop just last night got a nasty piece of malware which is pretty simple to get rid of if I could only get to safe mode.
SOMEONE PLEASE HELP.

  • Satellite P305-s8842: How do the 2 HDDs work together?

I have the Satellite P305-s8842, it comes with dual 200 gig HDD's.
I was wondering how they work together. The main one is almost full; when it fills all the way up will it automatically start filling the second HDD?
Right now there are only two files on the second one they are a temp folder and a msdia80.dll file.
Thanks in advance for the help.

    Thanks for the reply

Anyway, I don't really understand how it's supposed to be used. Please don't flame, I am pretty proficient with computers but this is the first one that I've had that has two hdd's. Just trying to understand how they work together. Thanks.

  • Satellite P305 - DVD drive missing, Registry method attempted

My satellite P305 lost the DVD icon in the My Computer.
So I tried to fix it using the "Registry-Method" I've seen all over the forums, but it did not work as I only found a "lower" I think not sure the name But not the "higher" second registry value. So now I can't use my PC's DVD and I hope I can just reinstall the driver, even though I doubt it.
The computer troubleshooter said that the problem is that the registry file was corrupted or missing (before I attempted to fix it). I had been using a burner and burning a DVD that took a long time to end the 99% level, so I clicked to close the program thinking that the information was already encoded on the DVD and there is nothing left for the program to do but shutdown, but it didn't work and the program stayed frozen. The program I used was called Cheetah Burner, in case you are interested in knowing it. So I ejected the disc (maybe after control-alt-deleting it, not sure) and probably restarted the computer again, to see that the program had occurred.
So please tell me how to deal with this, fast. I need to solve this fast to continue working!!!
    Thank you
    Ash.

    Hi Ash,
I think you mean the upper and lower filters in registry. Is that right?
Normally this should help regarding problems with CD/DVD drive but you have already tried this?!
In your case I would try to remove the CD/DVD drive from device manager (right click > uninstall). After restart the drive will be recognized again and maybe it works.
Furthermore you dont need another driver because its a part of OS. This driver cant be updated.
Another interesting thin: Can you boot from a disk?

  • Satellite P305-S8909 - why the site doesn't have information about it?

    Hello
Guys, I'd like to know if someone got this model: P305-S8909
Does it really run warm as I saw in some reviews?
Also, is a notebook worth getting?
    Is the keyboard good?
Why can't I find this model anymore in some websites? Did it get discontinued?
Also, this model has LED LCD?
    Thanks!

    Hi
A friend of me has the Satellite P300 that is very similar to the Satellite P305. He is very satisfied with this notebook and dont have any problems with it. The notebook isnt getting more hot as other notebooks the keyboard with extra numpad is very useful.
Normally you can find all informations about this notebook on the Toshiba US page:
    http://www.csd.toshiba.com
But as the other users said I would wait for the P500. I have a little bit searched with Google and its a very interesting and nice notebook. ;)

  • Satellite P305-S8820 - FN key not working after clean install of Windows 7

    Hi,
I have a Toshiba Satellite P305-S8820. I recently did a clean install of Windows 7. I have loaded the Toshiba value added driver pack and the trackpad driver but still cannot get the trackpad or the FN key to work.
    Any ideas?

    Hello John
You are like other millions other users and what you can read is relevant for you but sometimes it works a little bit different. For you it can be useless but sometimes it helps. Fact is that this utility is offered for some notebook models.
Generally speaking you are right and after VAP installation the job should be done but Ive faced the same problem in the past. Sometimes it works well and sometimes not. You will not believe me but in the past I used stuff for Satellite P300 to get all stuff working on Satellite A350. I cannot explain why this happen and it sounds crazy but it is the truth.
You can also try to play a little bit with VAP installation. Try to install VAP for A300/A350/P300. Generally speaking it is the same and if this will not work well you can remove it from the system.
Launcher for flash cards? It must be listed in MSCONFIG > startup > TcrdMain.exe

  • Connect Wi Fi to TV with Satellite P305-S8832

I have  Satellite P305-S8832 which is still running strong, running Windows 7.  I want to connect it wirelessly to an older large screen Samsung TV (not a Smart TV) which has an additional HDMI input that's not being used. My goal is to stream video, audio, and be able to search and surf the web. Does anyone have any suggestions for how I can do that without breaking the bank?  Would something like Google's Chromecast work?  I appreciate any ideas you might have, and happy holidays.
    Lion3221

As far as I know, the Chromecast only allows you to sling what's in your browser itself, not local files. I'm not sure if you can browse the web like that either. I think something like Intel Wireless Display could satisfy what you want, but I haven't used it myself. Check this link:
Is it possible to install Intel WiDi on a computer sold without it?

  • Satellite P305-S8832 - Media buttons don't work with Win7

    Hello Wise Friends,
Recently I installed two brand new hard drives (500GB 7200 rpm OS/ 500GB 5400 rpm DATA) and I did a clean installation of Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bits on my 3 1/2 Toshiba Satellite P305-S8832. Everything but the media buttons is working pretty well.
I downloaded the drivers from the Toshiba repository including the Toshiba Software installer for Windows 7 and the toshiba valued package. Still those tactile buttons which are above the keyboard and between the speakers does not work, no light, no response, nothing. I have checked the bios.
These buttons work out of the box with Ubuntu Linux, Windows XP and Windows Vista.
    Any advice?

    Hi
Generally speaking, the Multimedia buttons are controlled by VAP (value added package) and the buttons should work after the installation of VAP.
    Found the drivers here:
    [Satellite P305-S8832 drivers|http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/modelContent.jsp?ct=DL&os=&category=&moid=2059997& rpn=PSPC0U&modelFilter=P305-S8832&selCategory=2756709&selFamily=1073768663#]
It seems that there is also a newer version of VAP available.
Check other newer Sat P series in order to get latest VAP version.
Furthermore install the Hardware Setup. This tool lets you customize your hardware settings

  • Satellite P305, boot options menu not show for usb flashdrive

P305S8822 Boot Option Menu did not show item for starting with USB flash drive.  THere was an option for a usb external hard drive but that device was not connected while starting the computer.  The usb FLASH DRIVE was connected.  Does Satellit Laptop P305-S8822 have or supposed to have a boot option  choice available for usb flash drive?

I don't believe computers of that vintage could boot from a USB connection. (But you have FireWire and modem ports.)

  • Satellite C855D-S5302 problem with win8

I recently bought new Satellite C855D-S5302 after retiring my 12 year old Satellite after excellent service. BUT this new one comes with Windows 8 installed and that is just not cutting it for me.
Often when moving the cursor to the left, the charms screen pops up and the cursor goes nowhere until I click elsewhere. It has frozen several times so I had to restart by holding the power button down, and it doesn´t work as well with my Motorola Razr smartphone as the old XP did. I believe MS are trying to copy the Android OS but they do it terribly. Anyway, I have been searching for a way to downgrade my NEW computer to Windows 7 or something else, but haven´t found a way to do that. And according to Toshiba homepage, this model hasn´t been qualified to run Win8. So what should I do? Return the computer to the supplier? And tell everyone not to buy Toshiba? I´d rather not but I am running out of options.
Is there an Operating system available from Android for this computer?
    Please help me.
    Oskar

Windows 8 freeze and has software compatibility issues..... on c855d family machines. I have two of them both freeze lock up bought them at Walmart... Downgraded to Windows 7 pro had 5 devices having problems but after Microsoft update ran three long running updates some of them self resolved except for two of them SM bus controller and USB controller... To my confusion the driver seem to have loaded under device manager or installed default or generic drive for that device..... What need is drivers for those devices...Please help
PS.. I AM not impressed with Windows 8 and dont like it hope window 9 is better

I bought same model end of Nov. You only have 14 days to return a Toshiba laptop for an exchange; after that, you have to send to them for repair. The hard drive died on mine after 4 weeks and it is now in Nashville for repair; not costing anything but is a pain. At least I have a win7 Toshiba as backup. I had no problems with the system--think win8 is fine; just takes getting used to.

  • M30 Satellite DVD-RW problem (SD-R6112 drive)

I have a satellite SM30-106 with a SD-R6112 DVD/RW drive. When you go into my computer the drive says DVD-RW drive. The markings on the drive itself where the eject button is it says dvd rom/r/rw. However, when you go onto properties for the drive the driver info says dvd-rom. When you put in any blank DVD disc it does not recognise it, nor does it recognise a CDRW. I have tried Nero etc but nothing seems to make it write. When you put a dvd-ram disc in and click on dvdform it says no disc inserted. The DVD RAM software came with the machine, but nothing seems to make it want to write to DVD or CDRW. Please can someone suggest a fix?

    Hi Clive,
Firstly, I don't think the SDR6112 can handle DVD-RAM disks at all. According to the device specifications it will only handle DVD-R/RW, and CD-R/RW. I presume that it is the minus format discs that you are trying.
Secondly, is this a recent problem or has it always been like this ? If you right click on the device in My Computer there should be an option on one of the tabs to enable digital write please make sure that this box is ticked.
Finally you could reload the device drivers (from the Toshiba web-site) and see if that improves the situation.

  • Satellite P10-221, problem hotkey Fn F5

On my Toshiba Satellite P10-221, running WinXP, I used to be able to use Fn F5 to switch to my external display. Recently pressing Fn F5 brings up the same menu as always, but the only option is the LCD display. I used to have CRT and TV as options. Is anyone familiar with this problem? I already tried to install the Display Driver (Nvidia), but this did not solve the problem.
    Thanks in advance!

The external display is connected properly (and does work on toshiba notebooks of my colleagues), so I guess that's not the problem. Besides, the menu always showed more options (CRT/TV), apart from just LCD, even if there was no external display connected. Furthermore I upgraded the display driver, because that was the advice of the Toshiba Helpdesk (and also the only thing they could come up with). So I really don't know how to fix it.

  • Satellite L670-153: problem with a 4Gb SONY mass storage

I have a satellite L670-153 laptop with Windows 7 64 bit. When I conect a 4Gb SONY USB mass storage, Windows mount the USB mass storage. But after some minutes, the USB mass storage is unmount and mount and unmount indefinitely.
I update the bios and the chipset driver but I still have the problem.

    And what now?
Can you test functionality with other 4GB USB stick? Just to see if other brands will be recognized properly. Does the problem persist when you use it on other PC with the same operating system?
I have 2 SanDisk and 1 Toshiba USB stick and all of them are recognized properly on different notebooks?

  • Toshiba Satellite battery/AC problems?

After days of agony, I broke down and order a new AC adapter and battery for the Toshiba Satellite from Amazon (which cost about $20 for both, new, including free shipping; Toshiba wants over a $100 for the battery and nearly the same for the AC adapter). Anyway, I also ordered new systems recover disks (which cost more than both the above two items). After going through hell--since the instructions on the disks didn't work--I finally got the new system installed--no thanks to the instructions. But the problem is this: when I boot up with just the battery, everything works fine. When I tried booting with the AC adapter plugged in, it doesn't boot up. Both the battery and AC adapter are new. What's going on?

yes, unfortunately Peter. But it's not worth it. New ones are about $329 at Office Depot and it still works in Safe Mode with Networking with the AC plugged in--which makes me think it's a driver problem. Ah well, It's a better option than having it serviced.

After I recovered my Satellite C75 back to factory settings (that took severala hours) I suffer from drastic performance problems. Games that were running with 50 fps now are having about 10fps.

Im quite sure. And dfference is huge. I thought that maybe thats something to do with updates, but nothing have changed.

  • Re: Satellite P305-S8820 - FN key not working after clean install of Windows 7

I have a problem with a Satellite A210-103. After installation of Toshiba Value Added Package (Flash Cards Support Utility not available for A210), reboot, restarting Toshiba Flash Cards and pressing the FN key several times the problem still exists.
It must have other reasons why so many user have problems with the FN keys.
    John

I have searched for A200 and A210 in the Toshiba sections of Equium, Satego, Satellite and Satellite Pro but their are no Flash card support utility. In the details of the "Value added package" are the words:
"TOSHIBA Flash Cards provides the Hotkey function and the launcher function that starts the Hotkey function and launches the other TOSHIBA utilities"
So I think it's useless to search for this utility. It's more important for me to know which files (like name of the launcher program) must be started to use the FN keys.
