Satellite P50 Windows 7 Pro Recovery Media

Hello,
I purchased from Toshiba Direct a custom built Satellite P50, model PSPMHU-0CR02Y.  I ordered it with and paid extra for Windows 7 Professional installed from the factory, with media for Windows 8.  When I received the computer, I created my own set of Windows 7 recovery media.  Last week I started to have issues with the laptop related to blue screens, tech support had me attempt to restore from the recovery partition (holding down 0 while turning on the computer), which failed with error about creating partition.  Then I tried to use the media I created, which failed due to a read error of the DVD.  The last attempt was using the Windows 8 media which came with the PC, then if it worked to try the restore partition again to get Windows 7 on the laptop.  Windows 8 installed successfully, however when I tried the restore partition the only option was for Windows 8.
So now I have Windows 8 - however I want Windows 7 back, which I paid for.  Tech support says Toshiba Direct should have also provided me with Windows 7 media, Toshiba Direct says I can get it from Acclaim, Acclaim says they don't have it, call customer service, customer service refers me back to Toshiba Direct, and Toshiba Direct says I'll have to wait for a call from a supervisor within 24 hours.  I have now repeated this telephone adventure 3 times, without any resolution or contact from a supervisor who is able to assist.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Windows 8  Pro has downgrade rights Windows 7. This gives you the ability to use your license for Windows 8 with Windows 7. It doesn't, however, give you installation media or a key for Windows 7. You need to use your own media obtained elsewhere with a Windows 7 key. It's okay even if the key is already in use, because it's used just to get through installation. Afterward, Microsoft can activate via telephone. When you ordered it with Windows 7, Windows 7 was installed as a convenience, but recovery media with Windows 7 isn't available.

  • Cannot install Windows 7 "recovery media" on new Portege R600

I received a new R600 which I had wanted to buy with Windows 7 pre-installed, but the only option is to buy it with XP installed and "Windows 7 recovery media" (2 CDs) comes in the box, with no instructions. I started the computer, and did nothing but name it and choose a screen name; this brought up the desktop. Then I inserted the first of the 2 CDs: nothing. Powered off and started with that CD already in the disk drive: nothing. Called Toshiba tech help (phone seemed to be answered in India) and was instructed to perform several restarts holding down F12 or C: nothing. After a long hold while the tech sought help, was promised a call from his supervisor: so far (that was yesterday) nothing.
Can anyone suggest how I can either solve this issue myself or get some action from Toshiba?

Thanks for your reply. After two more calls to Toshiba Tech Help it turns out that the disc drive is defective (a music CD would not load and play). So I am returning the computer to Toshiba Direct in exchange for a new one.

  • T410 Windows 7 Recovery Media 64bit from Lenovo will not boot

I have been sent 4 sets of Windows 7 Recovery Media from Lenovo over the past week and a half. These DVDs are unusable as they will not boot because they were created as non-bootable DVDs. When looking at the DVDs, they all just have 1 file on them - 0A44006.dvd.  I was sent a set of the 32bit version and it has multiple files on it with Bootmgr and 6 directories and will boot just fine. The 64bit DVDs obviously were created and replicated without any of these files to make it a bootable DVD. Can someone from Lenovo (Morristown, NC) find out why and fix these DVDs. The support center in Atlanta can only order another set from Morristown and I keep getting bad DVDs.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

There's probably a way to make a bootable DVD out of that file.  If all have the same file you will probably still be missing a DVD or two - unless the contents of the files in a set are different.  Then again if it "1 of 1" is correct this may be all you need.
You can try a couple of things (just pulling this out w/out much thought...):
Use 7zip and extract the contents to <somewhere> and then burn that as a DVD.  Probably still won't be bootable, though.  Or just use your favorite image burning tool (nero, Win 7's built in burner, whatever) and burn that file as an image.
That may require renaming xxx.DVD to xxx.ISO.  This presumes it is an ISO.  Since 7zip can unarchive it, it probably is an ISO - or something very similar.  7zip may actually be able to tell you what its format is.
Let us know how that goes if you give it a try.

  • Windows 8.1 downgrade to windows 7 pro recovery media with Satellite S50-BBT2N22

I have a few questions about my recovery media.
    1. My new Satellite S50-BBT2N22 was ordered with Windows 8.1 downgrade-able to Win 7 pro. Should I build my recovery media before or after I downgrade to win 7 pro?
    2. My new Satellite S50-BBT2N22 does not have a DVD drive. How will I save my recovery media?
    Regards
    Dennis

    1. Before.  Your Recovery partition will remain Windows 8.1. After downgrading to Windows 7 and beginning operations, you should make frequent HDD copies to an external drive anyway.
    2. Use a Flash Drive in a USB port.  See your User's Guide starting on page 46 for complete instructions
for making Recovery Media and Recovering the HDD.

  • Does anyone know how to use the Yoga 2 Pro Recovery Media?

    Hey guys,
Tech support is not being helpful at all. I paid $60 just for some recovery discs to recover my accidentally formatted Yoga 2 Pro. The discs came with no instructions whatsoever, and using them is weird. First of all, there is two disc 1's, no disc 2, yet there is a disc 3 and 4. Support confirmed this is normal. There is also no prompt between discs 1,1, and 2, so despite making my best guess at when to switch, I can't confidently say I'm not screwing things up.
After the whole process completes, the bios can't find bootable media.
Tech support confimed that I'm missing a small step, but won't disclose what it is unless I pay for premium support.
Can anyone provide instructions for the recovery media? Tips or pointers that you remember when you are installing?
    thanks!

Take a picture of the disks and upload it here. Worst comes to worst, ditch those disk and install a retail version of Windows 7 (unactivated---so it won't be illegal to use). Use a bios windows key snooper > Take your OEM key to Microsoft website and legally download a copy of Windows 8 for free.
....also, does the OKR system not work? I am aware that you reformated your main drive... but, did you change the tables or partition sizes?

  • Re: How to install Windows from recovery media on a new hard drive?

Immediately after a Windows update, my computer would not restart. It said disk error.
I could not start it from the recovery media and F8 would not work. I bought and installed a new hard drive. Now when I put in the recovery media to install Windows on the new hard drive, it gives an error message.
What can this be? Should I be able to install Windows from the recovery media?
It is Windows 7 and the laptop is Satellite A500, 64 bit.

    Hello
Generally speaking you can install recovery image on every compatible HDD so thee should not be any problem about it.
Please tell us what happen when you start recovery installation. Which error message is shown?
Is new HDD recognized in BIOS. Before you start recovery installation set BIOS to default settings.

  • Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro: Recovery Media - Bad service experience!

How can I obtain the recovery media for the Yoga 2 Pro?
I accidently formatted the entire ssd including recovery partitions. I have contacted https://www.lenovorecovery.com/Extranet/Home.aspx 2,5 weeks ago but they only replied once that the recovery media is not available on usb stick. They state that delivery is within 2-3 days so I'm confused why they do not reply (also to my second and third email). The Support phone does not want to help me but only refers to lenovorecovery.com which is of no help.
Very bad Lenovo service experience up to now....

  • Windows 10 recovery media

    Hello,
When I acquired the HP Pavilion g6 laptop, it came with a recovery partition with Windows 8.0 and the drivers and preinstalled software. Later on I updated to Windows 8.1u through the Windows Store and Windows Update, and I'm now trying out Windows 10 TP Build 9926.
I'm planning to update to Windows 10 once it's out, but I think it would give rise to this problem: once I start using Windows 10, how would it be possible for me to do a system reinstall directly to Windows 10, along with the drivers and preinstalled software? Will HP provide recovery media of this kind for their clients who decide to take advantage of the free upgrade to Windows 10?
    Thank you very much.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Anthony
Recovery media can be used to restore to factory installed operating system only. In your case, Windows 8.
You've to again upgrade to Windows 10 from scratch. Also I am not sure if HP would make available drivers specific for your model at this point of time.
If you want you can always create a hard drive image/system back up to an external hard drive using Image back up tools like Macrium Reflect free , AOEMI back upper etc.

  • Satellite T110-12T - Creating recovery media

I have recently purchased a refurbished Toshiba Satelite T110-12T and am in the midst of creating some recovery media on 2 x DVD. It is now approahing 2 hours and the gas gauge is still at approx 50% of first disc!
Can someone please advise me if this is normal or should I abort and re-start? What is your experience of the time taken?

    Hi Xardas
Thanks for the advice. I am using Sony DVD-R discs in an external CnM drive so I would have thought that they were ok. In the end I cancelled after about 3 hours at 50% of first disc.
I may try again with my Sony discs, otherwise I will get some Verbatim or TDK ones as you suggest.
I think there was the option for using a USB stick but I don't have one with enough capacity, I'll have to buy one if I don't succeed with DVDs!
I will let you know how I get on. Thanks again.

  • P2PP Boot Check Failed - Pavilion dv6t-7000 Quad Edition (Windows 7) using Recovery Media

Hello, My name is Brandon Giesel and I have an HP Pavilion dv6t-7000 Quad Edition laptop. I've been using Windows 7 recovery media (part # 689366-002) to attempt to restore my computer back to factory defaults. I run the recovery dvds as instructed with disc 1, disc 2, disc 3, and application and driver recovery dvd. I've tried reseting the bios back to setup defaults to be safe and I use the boot device options to select the built-in dvd/cd-rom drive. I've also installed a clean install of Windows 7 Home Premium using the box set dvd I have laying around home and it installed no problem and boots to the desktop, but ofcourse doesn't have all the necessary drivers and hp software. I did this to confirm that hardware works properly. The computer also passes the start-up test. Memory and Hard Drive passed the test. The recovery seems to go through without a hitch until I hit the end and I get an error message that I believe is pointing to the network controller not functioning correctly. Error message down below... I used the same recovery media that I've used successfully in the past and tried 3 different sets of recovery media all with matching part numbers with no success. I also tried installing Windows using a MS box installation disc and installed the Realtec Ethernet Controller driver thinking that if I got the ethernet driver installed before doing the recovery that it would allow the recovery to go through successfully, but that didn't work either. Do you guys or gals have any ideas or suggestions on possible fixes? I'm open to advanced solutions. I've gone through Microsoft Windows 8.1 MCSA certification training, but this one has me absolutely stumped.  Serial #: 2CE31510V5Product #: A5F76AVBios Version: F.0AProcessor Type: Intel Core i7-3610QM @ 2.3GHz Originally shipped with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit  Error message: Recovery Manager: "The recovery attempt has failed. You're very welcome.
What you do to alleviate the issue is up to you, like I said.
I could think of more draconian methods to dim the lights.
You can get some black nail polish, or black enamel car paint in one of those small bottles, and paint over them if you want.
You can figure out a way to break them.
They are not designed to be turned off or dimmed with software or settings.

  • Cannot create recovery media on T61

Hi, two days ago I got my Lenovo Thinkpad T61 with Vista Business. I decided to downgrade to Win XP, so I found out, that I need to create a recovery media. I looked to Start > Programs > Thinkvantage, but there was no such option as create recovery media. So I was googling and I figured out that I didn't have installed Rescue and Recovery software. I downloaded (English) Rescue and Recovery 4.21 for Windows Vista from Lenovo webpage and installed it. Then I went again to Start > Programs > Thinkvantage and there was the option Create Recovery media. I clicked there, but there was only option to create Rescue media. Here is the screenshot :
    http://img38.imageshack.us/img38/4570/97770442.jpg
Also I was trying to find if I have that hidden partition. In windows I found some 513MB partition, but there was 100% free space.
    http://img27.imageshack.us/img27/4834/20885840.jpg
In linux I found only one partition, where is installed windows. Is there any way that I don't have this hidden partition, so I cannot create recovery media, or where is the problem? Thanks in advance.

If it is the official Lenovo downgrade discs, it is actually a XP pro recovery media, so you don't need the Vista OS to work. It will create its own recovery partition on your hdd. But once you done it, there is no way of going back to VIsta, unless you image the hdd using a third party software like Acronis TrueImage (need to be purchased) or Easeus Disk Copy (free).

  • Create Win 8 recovery media in ThinkPad/Thinkcentre/ThinkStation

QuestionMy machine comes preloaded with Windows 8. Unlike Windows 7, Lenovo Think products do not have options to create recovery media in Windows 8 via Lenovo ThinkVantage Tools.
Thus, is there any way to create recovery disc or media for just in case anything happens to my system and i need to recover back the system to factory default state?
AnswerBelow are the instructions for creating the Lenovo Microsoft Windows 8 preload Recovery Media for Lenovo Think branded systems.  A minimum 16GB USB flash drive is required to make a complete backup.
Open Recovery applet by pressing the Microsoft Windows key and X.  Select "Control Panel" from the menu and then select "Recovery" from the Control Panel pane as shown below.
Select "Advanced recovery tools" and then select "Create a recovery drive" as shown below.
Click "Yes" at the User Account Control prompt (if prompted
Make sure that "Copy the recovery partition from the PC to the recovery drive." is checked as shown below.
Select the appropriate USB Flash Drive.
The selected drive will be reformatted during the recovery creation process as shown below.
USB format and file copy will begin.  This process may take up to hour and will display as shown below.
Once the Recovery Media creation has completed, there is the option to delete the recovery partition.  On most systems, this partition is about 10G in size.  Lenovo strongly recommends that this recovery partition remain intact as shown below.
Recovery Media Process is complete and Control Panel can be closed.

Does anyone have further information on this issue? I have a T440S obtained in April. I did not immediately create a recovery drive, nor did I delete anything. But now when I try to create recovery media I receive the same messages mentioned above (the option to "Copy the recovery partition from the PC to the recovery drive" is not enabled so I cannot check it; if I click next I get the message that I cannot create a recovery drive..."Some required files are missing". I called Lenovo tech support about this and they said they would send me a CD with Windows 8 recovery media on it. That doesn't entirely help, since my system came preloaded with Windows 8.1 Pro. (Also the system doesn't have an optical drive, tho that is solvable with an external drive). The tech support person said I could use the recovery media to reinstall Windows 8, then upgrade to windows 8.1 and then reinstall all of my apps, which isn't really what I was looking for unless I had a total failure, which I don't. I would however like to be able to repair windows locally if needed. Has anyone been successful at creating a recovery drive with windows pro 8.1?

  • Won't boot from Toshiba Recovery Media; Will boot from Win 8 builder DVD

    Satellite L855-S5309, Windows 8, 64-bit
Created 2 sets of Windows 8 Recovery Media using Toshiba Recovery Media Creator.  First set a year ago, created a new set yesterday.
The laptop will not boot to either set (DVD 1).   The DVD is bootable in another machine.  EUFI is grayed out.
Tried a Windows 8 DVD store bought.  It booted from this DVD.
The big question:  Why won't the Toshiba laptop see its own DVD it created for recovery?
Win 8 Repair DVD - boots from USB drive but won't see DVD files on drive.  Is this the image?
Do I need to order the recovery media?

  • Recovery Media to Load Fresh SSD - Fails - X250 / Win7Pro

Very odd situation.  I received a new x250 with the 500Gb HDD. Nice machine. Removed the 500Gb HDD and plan to run off of an m.2 256Gb SSD.  The Tanscend m.2 SSD installed just fine and the BIOS recognizees it without an issue. I ordered Win7 Pro recovery media from Lenovo (which I paid extra for at the time I bought the machine - downgrade to Win7 +$50)   The intent here is to leave the 500Gb HDD untouched and will use later if I ever resell the machine, etc. When I try to boot from the Lenovo recovery DVD, I get the "Windows is loading filles..." progress bar at the bottom of the screen as it is reading from the external dvd drive.  So far so good.  It then abruptly stops during the initial windows environment load - about 30 seconds into it:     Windows Boot Manager    Windows Failed to Start    Info: The selected entry could not be loaded because the application is missing or corrupt    Status: 0xc00000001    File: \windows\system32\boot\winload.exe I tinkered, double checked everything, including dvd disc sequence, scratches on disc.  No change.  I just so happen to have a Microsoft Windows 7 install dvd (a retail version a couple years old).  It boots and installs with no issues.  It boots into the config environment, I can select time, date, country, hdd target, partiioning, etc.  It appears to have no issues whatsoever.  Must be a bad set of disks from Lenovo?  Read on. Ordered a second set of DVD's which they gladly shipped.  I still have the exact same issue. I was honest and transparent with Lenovo support and told them about replacing the factory hdd with an SSD.  They had me run through system diags and self tests [press <F10> on reboot] and all passsed in flying colors.  They had me check several BIOS settings related UEFI, legacy, and a few other boot settings.  I did not have to make any changes as they were already set to thier recommendations. Lenovo support's final recommnedation: Send the machine back for them to work on or call sales and tell them I have a defective machine. I am a little miffed at this point.  Don't get me wrong, there may be a legitimate reason why the Lenovo media will not boot with my m.2 flash drive installed - but the support people (I have spoke with three different ones now) don't seem to have an issue the SSD I installed, especially since the machine passes all internal self tests.  They tried thier best to explain how this must be a mainboard issue. I could just buy a Win7 license (they are still around if you look) and be done with it.  But that is why I paid extra for the downgrade at the time of purchase.   Has anyone else seen this or have a better explanation than the Lenovo Thinkpad support folks do? Sorry for the long post - but wanted to put all the info in up front. Thank  you

The final conversation I had with Lenovo support stated that it is bad system and I need to pack it up and send it back.  I went ahead and used a personal Windows 7 Pro license and the system is running beautifully as we speak.  I had to download a boat load of drivers from Lenovo (not unexpected from any vendor when doing a generic OS load) and am doing the OS patching now.  But seems to be very stable and pretty quick. I am not sure if anyone from Lenovo monitors these boards, but I am very disappointed with the level of support I received.  I politey asked if we could escalate and I was told there was no one else that could help (in a nutshell).  I was also told that the recovery disks they ship are outsourced directly from Microsoft thus Lenovo has no direct control over them.  The tech (Marion, as a recall) tried to call Microsoft to investigate further but he says the number he was given has been disconnected.  Sorry. My disappointment is not that the machine won't load the way I exepct it to, it is that no one has an answer one way or another.  Sending the machine back for a new mainboard (as Lenovo technician Jennifer? suggested) just seems like they are throwing a dart at the wall and hoping they get lucky.  If any of the techs I spoke with could at least explain to me the relationship between not being able to boot from Lenovo recovery DVD's and a bad system - especially when OEM Microsoft DVD's boot and load just fine, I would love to hear it.  Maybe there is a legitimate reason, but please do share before you tear into my machine. I would be very happy to return one of the sets of DVD's they have shipped if they want to test on thier own machine.  Maybe that is asking too much? Needless to say, Lenovo tech support totally missed the mark.  If anyone knows of a way I can escalate (ask for duty manager?) to get beyond the techs that pick up the phone, would love to hear it. This is certianly not the closure I anticipated.  I expect more from Lenovo.

  • HP Windows 8 Recovery Failed (Used Recovery Discs)

Hi. I not sure where to begin.
    System Info-
    HP Pavilion g6t-2200 Notebook
    Windows 8 (64bit)
This is my sisters Computer. Her system was running slow so I was going to reinstall the OS using the Recovery Media I ordered for the system. Ive reinstalled Operating Systems for muliple computers since Windows 2000.
I got 3 Discs titled - System Recovery DVD Windows 8 Recovery Media for Windows 8 Products -
and 1 Application and Driver Recovery DVD.
I started the PC, Went into the UEFI (BIOS) And changed the Boot Options to CD-DVD Drive, Inserted Disc 1 and Restarted
The Recovery Manager Loaded and Started the Factory Image reset.
I inserted All 3 CDs when prompted during the "Reformatting the Windows Partition of the Hard Drive" , "Copying Files required to Restore the Hard Drive" and "Restoring Files to the Hard Drive"
I was then told that if I received any additional Recovery CDs to insert them now. I had that Application and Driver Recovery DVD, But did not insert it and chose to skip, due to the fact the CD did not come in the same Sleeve as the others.
The PC restarted and went through an Installation Process and several Restarts. After all of that, The PC restarted and told me that the Recovery Had FAILED. I was given the option to retry, or create a Dump File.
I am at a lost, Should I have used the disc when prompted? Any support would be nice =D
    This question was solved.

    Thank you for the Reply.
I did look at this article before doing this reset, But im still getting the error message.
Here is the dump file from this time
As for my 2nd time, I tried, Inserted the 4th disc when asked. Went through the process. I saw the Windows 8 Metro Screen for a brief second. But now im stuck with the error message again.
I cant remember how to hide long Dump Files, so sorry its so long.
