Satellite P55t-B5340 Display Flashes When Unplugged

I bought Satellite P55t-B5340 ultra 4K laptop from Costco several days ago. It is an overall decent laptop except that under some circumstances the display flashes by rapidly switching between the desktop and a screen-full array of repeating small graphic icons. The flash always happens when the power cable is unplugged even when the battery is fully charged. It does so without failing when the power cable is unplugged right after the laptop has been powered on and used for a while. Otherwise, the flash happens randomly when the power cable is unplugged. My first concern is whether this is an inherent problem of the Toshiba 4K display, given that this was the very first 4K laptop and the technology was still new. If it is, I would have to consider a different laptop as I won't be able to afford the disruption caused by an unstable computer. Please let me know if you have a simiar experience, especially if you are one of the early adopters since the laptop came out in April. Any advice on how to fix it or whether I should give it up altogether is very much appreciated.

I also see this issue on the same model purchased at Costco last December.  More specifically:Only occurs when running on batteriesOnly occurs at full resolution 3840x2160Only happens when you stop moving the cursor for more than 1/4 second.Screen displays correctly as soon as you move the cursor.  As long as the cursor is moving the display is correct.  The garbage display is an undiscernible pattern repeated across the screen 15x and down the screen 68x. The only solutions I have figured out it never run it except on batteries in full resolution.  When running it on batteries chnage to lower resolution. Very annoying problem.

  • Satellite A500 - Battery light flashes when connected to mains power

    Win 7 Satellite A500 PSAM3A-03P00E.
The battery light flashes when connected to mains power (intermittent fault), when I unplug mains and re-connect flashing stops and battery (high capacity) continues to charge.
Also when battery light flashes the key board back lighting stays on when it should blank out and if the back lighting is off and the battery light starts flashing the key board back lighting doesn't turn on, all other functions seem to work fine.
The battery charges and holds charge as it should (when light flashes battery doesn't charge).

    Hi
Did you notice this issue from first day of purchase?
Theoretically it could be possible that your battery starts to malfunction
At the other hand an electronic issue might be possible too
    However, try this:
Remove ac adaptor and battery. Then press and hold power buttons 30 sec long.
Then insert the battery and connect AC adaptor again does it helps?
By the way: is BIOS up to date? If not, perform an update.

  • OSxMavericks Mini Display Port Won't Return to Original Display Settings When Unplugged

I have a new MacBook Pro 13" Retina Display and display the screen on my Samsung TV. I have never had any problems with the display adjusting from the Samsung output back to the laptop settings when unplugged (on my old MacBook Air), but with OSxMavericks, it will not convert/adjust. When plugged in and displayed on the Samsung, the laptop display is very small; when subsequently unplugged, it is stretched and I have to manually reduce the size of each window. I would like it to be able to adjust to a larger display when plugged into the Samsung but then automatically adjust back to the smaller display when the mini displayport is unplugged. I feel that this is an easy setting to change, but I can't find it. Can anyone give me a tip? Thanks!

I had a MacBook Pro 2010 that was running 10.9.1 and worked fine using mdp to hdmi. Now I changed it to a pro 2012 running 10.9.2 and the same wire no longer works.

  • Mac Display Flashes When Coming out of Sleep Mode

When my Macbook pro display is closed & Mac is in sleep mode and I open the display it will flash once (Not Flicker) before the log on screen comes on. Does anyone know why this is happening? My mac is 1 year old and this issue started about 2 months ago. It does not happen all the time but I would say about 80% of the time. My Mac is used every single day 8 to 10 hours each time. Thank you

  • 24" cinema display flashes when plugged to an imac

    Hello,
I have a 24" cinema display and a 20" apple display connected to an iMac 2011 27" with an ATI Radeon HD 6970M 1 GB. The 24" Cinema display starts to flash quickly after the boot of the computer. Apple technician told us however that this configuration should work without problems.
I plug the 24 "cinema display on my Mac Pro rev 1.1 with an ATI Radeon HD 4870/512 MB. I have no problem of display even after a long time of use.
I plug the same screen on a MacBook Air late 2010 with a NVIDIA GeForce 320M 256MB using it as the main screen, the laptop cover down. I also have no problem. I have not tested this configuration with the 24" as a second screen.
The iMac motherboard has been changed once. Whenever I talk about this problem to Apple, I have no answer. Does anyone has experienced this kind of situation or know enough about this kind of problem tell me from where it may come?
    Thank you

    Hi there tomchr9
According to the technical specifications for the 24-inch LED display, the display is compatible with MacBook, MacBook Air, and MacBook Pro systems with Mini DisplayPort. Use of these displays with non-Mac hardware is not supported by Apple.

  • External Display flashes when attached via DVI to MBP

When I attach the Samsung Syncmaster 204B to my MBP running 10.5.4, the external screen appears for about 5 mins and then it randomly flashes off and on. The only property that can be adjusted form the MBP is the resolution. Does anyone have any hints on how to fix it?

    Hey there,
I'm having the same problem and I "May" have a solution. Mine is the Syncmaster 2493. Brought it home last night, set it up, basked in it's glory and then phrrrt....it goes bright and turns off. Over and over. Anyway, by searching the forums here, a rep mentioned there were problems with the "Autosource" feature in the monitor menu itself.
So if you go into the monitor menu, using the buttons on the monitor, and scroll until you get to the Autosource feature, then toggle it to Manual.
I did this and it worked great.....at least last night it did. This morning it's still sort of happening but that was after I made the monitor a bit brighter. Anyway, see if this works for you.

  • MacBook Pro wakes up when unplugging usb from cinema display

    Hi all,
I have a 30" cinema display at work and a 23" at home which I use with my macbook pro. At work, I use a usb keyboard which stays plugged into the monitor. At home, I have a wireless keyboard and a usb printer plugged into the monitor. Thus in both cases, I plug the usb cable from the display into my laptop. I typically leave the MBP open so as to have the main display and the cinema display at the same time. When I leave home or work, I close to MBP to put it to sleep. However, upon unplugging the display and especially its usb cable, the laptop invariably wakes up, which is annoying.
I tried leaving the MPB closed and putting it to sleep with the display's on/off button. Same behavior.
Is there a setting to prevent usb 'signals' from waking up the computer? Should I proceed differently?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I know this question is answered, but I didn't want to create another thread to discuss the same topic.
I think this issue is rooted in the Cinema Display being attached to port 3 of it's own internal hub. This is to allow the display dimming, the power button that controls the sleep/wake of the laptop, etc. I just got my 30" cinema display a week or two ago, and before that was using an HP IPS LCD panel (24") that also had an integrated USB hub. I have the same devices attached too --USB hard drive for time machine, and keyboard (mighty mouse plugged in to keyboard). When unplugging the cable to the HP monitor's hub, the macbook would not wake up. Just with the Apple display.
The problem with the hack/bandaid/workaround suggested is that to unplug the USB cable before sleeping the laptop, I need to open disk utility and eject the external drive first, else the system will complain. When the laptop goes to sleep, it runs a script (that I wrote) to eject the drive before sleeping, thus no error messages.
Apple really needs to work on making "docking" work right. Until then, I'm using a Belkin USB hub which doesn't wake up the mac when unplugging it.

  • Display flashes white when I hit 0 on numeric keypad...why?

    Using Logic Pro 9...
When I hit the 0 (zero) key on the numeric keypad as a transport control alternative, the entire display flashes white, and Logic does not respond as it should when 0 is pressed.
I thought maybe this was an accessibility option, but in "System Preferences > Universal Access > Hearing" I see that "Flash the screen when an alert sound occurs" is not checked.
Also, hitting the other number keys causes the Logic window to get hidden for a brief moment.
    Any ideas?
    -Allan

Being a new Logic user, it's a pleasure to be able to help someone here!
In 9.0.1 Apple changed the behavior of unmapped keyboard commands. In 9.0 you'd hear the Apple 'donk' sound when you hit an unmapped key; in the latest version you now get a flashing screen.
As for your other question, it's because those keys are assigned to changing Screensets. You might want to Google that one - one of Logic's nifty workflow features.

  • X301 DisplayPort flashing when connected

I have recently purchased an X301 (2776-LEG) and am delighted with it. At home I connect it to a 22" HPW2228h monitor that includes a USB hub. I was using VGA but just got delivery of the DisplayPort/DVI adapter cable required.
There is no doubt that the digital interface produces a much better image. However I now have a problem that often when I open the laptop (I don't power it down during the week when at home) the laptop seems not to be quite sure about what monitor is connected. With the result that it flashes and goes blank then back to the laptop display every 15 seconds or so in a continual loop.
I tried disconnecting the USB connection but this doesn't help. I tried powering down and restarting as well as restarting with & without the DP cable connected but still no good.
Now I had to go back to VGA which is making my eyes hurt.
Im using Vista which I am also very happy with even though it doesn't seem to like IBM iSeries Access very much.
    Can anybody help me please?

Anyone have any suggestions on this problem? The exact same problem occurred to my wife's 80 GB classic yesterday. The grey apple screen flashes when hooked up to my iMac via a USB cable. iTunes does not recognize it. It works in the car or house though with our Griffin power accessories. Unplug it from the USB cord though and the screen goes black. Battery indicator says it is fully charged.
    Any help would be appreciated!
