Satellite P750-10R - BSOD while gaming - wrong graphic card?

I've been having trouble with this laptop since I got it. I've hardly been able to play any games on it even though it surpasses even the recommended specifications. Sometimes it will freeze, other times it will BlueScreen.
I've taken in to the shop three times, the last just two weeks ago, and it hasn't changed. Today I was comparing the specs and I noticed this on the Toshiba products specs:
Graphics adapter type : NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M with CUDA Technology and NVIDIA Optimus Technology
memory amount : 2,048 MB dedicated VRAM. Available graphics memory can be expanded using system memory, through TurboCache technology: up to 3,793 MB with 4 GB system memory installed as shown in the NVIDIA control panel, and up to 4,095 MB with 5 GB system memory (with pre-installed 64-bit operating system).
memory type : DDR3 Video RAM (resp. Video RAM and system memory combined)
connected bus : PCI Express
[This is a screencap I took from the laptop.|http://i.imgur.com/NezvzgI.png]
I really am hoping I'm misunderstanding something here. Do these match up?
EDIT: The BSoD I get most often is this one: Blue screen Error - BCCode: 1000007e

Hi,
Can I add a question to this thread please? I have a Satellite P750-13M and have had it for over a year and a half. Mainly I use it for work and some low intensity games, but recently I started using it for more graphic intensive games. Often the computer overheats and crashes when doing so. While investigating the problem I came across the same NVIDIA screen shot that wertxi posted. According to the NVIDIA control panel I only have 64MB of dedicate VRAM, but the P750-13M specs page ...
http://www.toshiba.ie/discontinued-products/satellite-p750-13m/
... says that I should have 1GB of dedicated VRAM. Is this a discrepancy or am I not comparing like with like?
I haven't been having any blue screening, just over heating and slow graphics rendering, although the machine (supposedly!) exceeds the recommended requirements for the game.
Thanks,
Simon
EDIT - Just to clarify, in case I rambled too much, I do have both display adapters listed in device manager and both are up to date. My query is about the discrepancy in the dedicated VRAM indicated in the product specs and in the NVIDIA control panel.
Thanks again

  • Satellite P875-31C - BSOD while inserting the SD card

Hi all and sorry for my english.
I have a problem when insert an SDcard in the slot. Appears a blue screen with the follow missage:
"PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA" Your Pc we'll be checked and then restarted himself.
My laptop have only 3 mounth and today is the first time I try to insert SD Card in the slot.
Anybody knows what can be the problem?
I just download and installed the drivers from official page but no good results.
    Thanks a lot
    Sergi.

The BSOD seems to be caused due to the internal card reader.
In your case I would recommend system recovery and additional BIOS update (if available)
In case the BSOD would still appear using the internal card reader, you should contact the Toshiba authorized service provider which could test the hardware.
I guess in worst case the motherboard needs to be replaced but if warrant is valid the notebook should be fixed free of charge.

    Thanks

These crashes were related to memory corruption (probably caused by a driver).
Please run these two tests to verify your memory and find which driver is causing the problem.  Please run verifier  first
If you are over-clocking anything reset to default before running these tests.
    In other words STOP!!!

  • Wrong graphics card twice in a row

I ordered a T420S laptop a month ago and received it in around two weeks. When I turned it on, I found that they have sent me the wrong graphics card. My specifications were:
NVIDIA Quadro NVS4200M Optimus technology (1GB)
Which is the enhanced graphics option but I received a Intel(R) HD Graphics 3000.
When I asked for a replacement, they sent me one after more than an hour of calling and waiting and I have just received the new one today. But once again, it is the Intel(R) HD Graphics 3000 and not the NVIDIA Quadro.
Here is the screenshot I took of the new laptop I received today:
What should I do? Call again and ask for a second replacement? (They might send the wrong one once again)
Or just return it and find a new laptop to buy?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Thank you all very much for your responses.
It seems that I was wrong to assume the computers didn't have the graphics card I order but it was only not activated.
I wish the Lenovo support had explained it to me earlier when I called...
In the end, I have still decided to keep the replacement. The original had padding blocking a part of the fans on the upper left which isn't there on the second which I'm assuming to be how it was designed.

  • Satellite X200-219 overheats while gaming and shuts down

Ok I originally lived in the UK, where I bought a Toshiba X200-219.
Since then I moved to the States, and have the laptop plugged into a surge protected extension cord, attached to plug converter.
Once the warranty expired on the laptop, I upgraded to 4GB of RAM, and switched out both hard disks to Seagate 320GB 7200rpm drives.
Now ever since I moved to the States, the laptop has been overheating, more and more frequently even *before* I upgraded the components; this has usually been happening whilst gaming. I have been regularly blowing out any dust that might have settled inside the vents with compressed air
But this time it's different. I was playing Red Alert 3, and it did it 3 times. When the laptop over heats, I have to remove the power cord and then reinsert it before switching it on. Except the final time I tried that, the laptop didn't start. There are absolutely no signs of life from the thing, even after cooling down for the past 2 hours. There aren't even any lights acknowledging that the power cord is plugged in. Oh and I've replaced the fuse so it can't be that (the battery is in the back in this instance)
In the UK the laptop ran at a normal temperature. Over here it was running hot to touch, and the fan was screaming but it was manageable.
It ran even hotter on the odd game I was playing but not whilst en/decoding movies.
Please don't let this become one of *those* threads where everything fizzles out and I don't get an answer. Any ideas please?
    Happy holidays folks
    Aseel

    Hi
Overheating is a serious issue because a high temperature can damage the internal parts.
The internal temperature increases to a higher level because all devices like CPU and GPU are running with high performance while gaming.
In such case the cooling module fans should rotate faster to ensure that the warm air would be blow away
In many cases the cooling modules cannot work properly because the dust and debris clog up the cooling grilles or there is not enough thermal grease between the cooling module and CPU or GPU.
Furthermore its not recommended using NON-Toshiba graphic drivers because such non Toshiba graphic drivers are not designed for the notebook usage and can lead to such overheating issues.
You should also ensure that there is enough free space around the notebook. This is important for properly fresh air circulation.
But of course an faulty cooling module could be also responsible for such overheating issues and in such case ONLY the ASP would be able to help you.

  • MSI Gaming App - Uses wrong Graphics Card.

Hello. I recently bought a MSI 970 4G Graphics Card. To improve performance/unlock more features, I downloaded the MSI Gaming App.
However, it seem to default to my other graphics card, a NVidia 750TI. For example, the LED option isn't there, the cooling mode only works on my 750, etc.
The only way I can get it to use my 970 (Meaning, access the LED function, and change the mode to Gaming/run the fan at 100%, etc.) is to remove my 750TI from the computer, which I do not want to do.
Is there a way to set my MSI 970 as the "default" graphics card? Or to make the program use it instead of the 750ti, without removing the 750 from my system?
    Thank you very much.

It happens every time, even after a restart.

  • Satellite P750-10R idle temp and fan speed

I have just received a P750-10R and I am wondering if the idle temp and fan speed is normal. I do not have it on eco mode and the processor is at around 50 on core 1 and 47on core 2. According to the Health Monitor the fan runs at 71% speed which is rather loud in my opinion.
The ambient temp here is not very high, maybe 21-23 celcius.
Does anyone have a similar model that behaves the same way?
    Regards,
    Danel

    Small update on the issue.
Switching to eco mode will shut off the fan for a short time. Switching back from eco mode puts the fan immediately at approx. 67% speed, no matter what is running at the time. Fan doesn't seem to run at any speed under 67% but can go higher.
Could it possibly be the recent bios update? I didn't run the computer for very long on the bios it shipped with, so I haven't got a comparison base between the two versions.

  • Satellite L350-159 - Can I install a graphics card?

Hello everyone, I got a friend to check what graphics card I had the other day, as I play games and noticed that the graphics weren't fantastic. He checked it out and then told me I actually haven't got a proper graphics card!
I'd love to remedy this, but is there any way to get into the laptop to install a graphics card? and if so, what kind of graphics card would you recommend? some are rather big, and i'm not sure they could fit. I noticed some panels on the bottom of my laptop that can be screwed off - do one of those lead to a place to put a graphics card?
    Thank for the help,
    Michael

    Hello
The graphic card cant be exchanged because its soldered on the mainboard. So thats not possible to exchange it.
If you dont believe it, read this interesting Toshiba document:
    http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB9401AX0001R01.htm
As Akuma said the point is that the Satellite L series is not designed for gaming. I have a Satellite L300 and a Qosmio X300. The Satellite L is really great for my work, picture editing, E-Mails and office. The X300 is really perfect for games Its fast enough for all games I have.

  • Satellite M45-S169 - Overheats and upgrading RAM/graphic card

    Hello,
I need a few answers and reassurance to the questions I have about my laptop. Here are the following questions:
The laptop overheats fairly fast which by this I mean in about 10min or so, the laptop is burning up. Is it the model or is there something wrong with it? I can't keep the laptop on without keeping it plugged into the wall at all times. Does this have anything to do with my battery as in I need a new one?
Am I able to install new RAM* (2GB Max) and if so, does anyone know how much slots there are for this model? (Haven't really opened it up to check because I'm bad at putting things back together after taking them apart)
Am I able to install a new graphics card for the laptop or am I stuck with the ATI RADEON XPRESS 200M Series? (and if it's not too much to ask, is the graphics card I have good, bad, or so-so)
Sorry if there are too much questions but it would be really nice if I get answers to all of them.

    Hi Honu_2,
1.) You should clean your notebook using compressed air spray. This could blow out the dust from the cooling ventilators and read this article please:
    http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/ann.jspa?annID=40
2.) Yes, it seems that you need a new battery if your notebook only works with connected AC/DC adaptor.
3.) You should check your user manual. As far as I know this model supports up to 2GB RAM. That means you can install 1GB in both slots.
4.) Upgrading the graphic card is not possible since its soldered/fixed on the mainboard and your notebook is only designed for preinstalled graphic card.
By the way: All these questions are already answered here. Check the forum for similar threads, you will find a lot of interesting stuff! ;)

  • Wrong graphics card in my GX70 Destroyer 3CC

I bought a new MSI GX70 destroyer model# GX70 3CC-203US and everywhere it says that this notebook has a Radeon R9 m290x graphics card, like on the MSI website, the box, and the stickers on the laptop itself. However, on actual system config and device manager it shows "Radeon HD8970m" as the graphics card, which to my understanding is not the same card as the R9 m290x.
    Is this normal at all?

Like Pegasus say, use the latest vga driver from msi website should solve the problem.
    ATI graphics driver(131.52) http://download.msi.com/nb_drivers/vga/ati_r9_131.52_0x7a41faed_w878100.zip
If you're using the generic graphics driver from AMD, then it'll show the wrong graphics name in the device manager.

  • Satellite 5100-503 - I need a new graphic card

My Satellite 5100-503 shows garbled image during startup particularly when the computer is warm.
    The sound also breaks.
It was diagnosed as a display card problem. The card has nVidia GeForce4 440 Go chip.
What is the equivalent card available in the market or any reliable source?

    Hi Santos
Thanks for posting this your personal opinion but I have to say that you are simply not right
The Toshiba ASP (authorized service partner) will help you always if you have some hardware problems.
But they will not provide you any disassemble manuals because such manual are not for public usage!
And this is not only Toshiba rules but you will find such rule in every company!
If you need an solution the guys will help you and should be abel to replace the faulty part...
Furthermore your Satellite 5100 is an older notebook and the nVidia GeForce4 440Go graphic card is not weakness.
Every notebook parts can start to malfunction after a long time of usage! This is nothing unusual but simply "real world".
So dont speak about weakness because its simply not right and the nVidia GeForce4 440 Go supports the same quality standard like other different graphic chips
Anyway, if you want to solve this issue then the motherboard (contains the graphic card) must be replaced.

  • Please Help - Screen corruption while in Aperture - graphics card problem?

Over the past few weeks, I have noticed frequent screen corruption within the confines of the image that I am currently editing. The corruption only occurs when in Aperture. The corruption occurs as multiple thin (one pixel?) horizontal lines of random color and random length that occur in random locations within the image. If I force a re-calculation of the image (such as change white balance) the random lines will disappear, only to reappear somewhere else. The actual image (after export) is never corrupted, only the display. Recently Aperture has started to "hang" in random ways, sometimes freezing the whole machine, sometimes crashing, sometimes beach-balling.
This sounds like a hardware problem to me, but the standard Apple hardware test runs without errors, as does an extended memtest. Setup: Mac Pro, 5GB, SW fully updated to 10.4.11 and Aperture 1.5.6. I tried re-seating the graphics board to no avail.
Are there any programs that I can use to test the Radeon X1900 card?
    Any other suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.

    Thanks David,
I did some more research and it appears that quite a few of us (unlucky) users with an early version of the Radeon X1900 graphics card are now seeing failures that appear to be due to poor heat dissipation by the graphics card. There's a huge thread on the subject here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1195969
The problem with random display glitches doesn't show up for most people until they upgrade to Leopard, which puts a larger strain on the graphics card than Tiger. I am still running Tiger, but the glitches show up for me when using Aperture, which of course uses the graphics card more aggressively than most other programs. I assume that Aperture increases the heat which causes the glitches.
I tried cleaning the dust out of the Radeon's heat sink, and I added a tool (smcFanControl) that lets me manually override the default fan speed. By keeping the card's temperature lower, the glitches have gone away. If I let the temperature rise, they come back. Looks like I'll be needed a new graphics card.
