Satellite P840 Win8 - touchpad intermittently stop responding
Hi, I've had my new laptop for 24 hours, and I've experienced twice a situation whereby the touchpad stops responding permanently, requiring the machine to be reboot (which "resolves" the problem). In addition to that, I've been experiencing intermittent freezes in response for about 3-4 seconds, then it starts responding again.
It's brand spanking new, so this is pretty disappointing. Has this happened to anyone else and if so, is there a fix that doesn't involve returning the unit?
Cheers,
Pete
Hi
Did you notice the same using a connected USB mouse?
Im asking this because from my point of view the touchpad or the system could freezes for some seconds because of stressed CPU.
In many cases the system doesnt response because some processes running in the background stresses the CPU and this leads to such system freezing.
I would not be worry about that check if the system is up to date and if all updates are installed.
In case this issue would not be related to the mentioned background process, try to update the touchpad driver.
Check the Toshiba EU driver page in order to get the latest touchpad driver or visit the Synaptics driver page in order to get the driver directly from touchpad manufacturer page.

1131 access point intermittently stops responding
We have an 17 offices with the same basic wireless config. 2 or 3 ap's with the same configuration on them. This one particular office has 2 ap's that intermittently will stop responding to pings and are no longer reachable via telnet or http and users cannot connect through the ap. We are running c1130-k9w7-mx.124-3g.JA1/c1130-k9w7-mx.124-3g.JA1.
I had the site (located in Spain) send me pics of the ap's and noticed that they are not mounted, just laying on ceiling tiles in a plenum ceiling.
Once the ap's are again reachable there is nothing in the log that would suggest there was a problem and the ap does not reboot.
Any ideas?

Satellite C series - Touchpad has stopped working running Windows 8
Hi
I dont know if anyone can help.
My touchpad has stopped working.
At first it would only work on the login page. Now its not there at all.
I have only had my Toshiba C for a few days and its the first time I have used Windows 8.
I have tried F5 and I have tried going onto BIOS using F2 when booting but that wont come up.
Help plzHi
Please check this Toshiba document:

Re: Satellite U500-PSU9ME - display driver stopped responding
Since I purchased the laptop I had a problem with the display driver.
The screen keeps blackout and comes back after a second with the massage display driver stopped responding and has recovered, I wish I can attach a screenshot. The laptop have nVidia card on it.
The dealer replaced it for me but even with the new one, it comes each day once or twice
This is my 1st Toshiba, I always heard they are good but now I am kind of confused!
Anyone had this problem and could solve it? Please help.
Note: i updated all drivers.> {quote:title=MasterG wrote:}{quote}

Why not? Driver stops responding only when cpu cooler runs on minimal rpm, seems to me, that fan rpm basically depend on cpu heat (_not_ gpu).
Very good solution, but I have a question: would you buy a server that works only when you disable lan card? would you buy a car which can turn only left?
No matter. Never the less, I'm satisfied with how the Intel i3 and Nvidia 310m works.
The thing i DO NOT like and which concerns manufacturer directly is keyboard. I don't know who designed flat buttons, but it's the worst keyboard I seen EVER. You can realize my disappointment, changing eeepc to u500 expecting better and getting THIS. They could at least have upgrade for keyboard replacement, the part that cost $50 spoils $1100, wonderful...
:( I imagined my fist toshiba as much happier thing...

Satellite A500-1GH - display driver stopped responding and has successfully
My laptop is the A500-1GH and I bought it 2 days ago...
My problem is that for the fourth time the monitor went black and then recovered and I'm getting the message "display driver stopped responding and has successfully recovered". My graphics card is the Nvidia GeForce 330.
I would appreciate it if someone knows what should I do to fix this
Thank you in advanceHi Guys,
I have experienced _*both*_ problems with my A500/O2J with the NVIDIA GeForce GT 330m graphics card. Only purchased it Monday 15th February. Everything came factory installed except Office Professional 2007.
Set it up on Tuesday and it happened within 2 hours of set up, then again on the Wednesday. On the first 2 occurrances the display went black and recovered after a few seconds with a message along the lines of "graphic card driver has stopped responding and has successfully restored" then today (Friday 19/2) the screen went black and didn't come back on. I thought it had gone in to sleep mode but pressing the power button did nothing. After about 20 minutes I got the Blue Screen saying the system was shutting down to prevent unecessary damage and it then proceeded to restart.
I'm computer illiterate when it comes to this technical stuff and rang the place of purchase who told me to ring Toshiba (133 070). Of course being in the West they are closed so I will have to wait until Monday (1st day back at Uni).
Not off to a good start....so i hope this problem can be rectifed quickly and without too much fuss.
My computer specs are as follows;
A500/O2J
Intel Core i5 processor
Windows 7 Home premium (32 bit)
4GB memory
500Gb Sata storage
NVidia GeForce GT 330M graphics
Karmon/Kardon speakers
Everything came factory pre-installed except printer and Office Professional 2007 but both were installed after the problem occured the first time.

Satellite P750-114 - Display driver stopped responding
Hi, i was playing a game called football manager and I suddenly recieved this message which took me back to the desktop.
'display driver stopped respinding and has recovered' 'Display driver NVIDIA Windows Kernal Mode Driver, Version 2.67.44 stopped responding and has successfully recovered'
Any idea what this is and how it can be solved? I have recived this number of times whilst playing. could this mean the laptops faulty? thanksHi naz90uk,
I wouldnt recommend installing the nVidia display drivers because they are not pretested on your notebook. That means your notebook could overheat and damage the hardware.
Even you have the newest Toshiba display driver I would try reinstalling it. At first remove the old display driver (control panel > uninstall a program) then restart your computer. Run a registry cleaner like CCleaner (Freeware) and remove old registry keys. Restart the unit again and now install the newest Toshiba display driver.

Open Directory intermittently stops responding
I'm trying to figure out how to get OD working reliably.
I've had a mac mini running OD and file services as primary authentication adn user managemetn.
I'm now running AD for user auth, and a standalone OD mac mini (10.9.x) with no other purpose in life but to be the OD master, on a new - ish Mac mini that hasn't evinced drive errors.
Nevertheless, OD simply gives up on an intermittent basis. I usually figure this out when I load system preferences and I cant get a list of replicas. Or when binding a new computer and it throws an error.
Rebooting clears the problem - for a little while. I can bind, the Server.app behaves properly, etc.
I also make sure to not leave a user session or server.app running, but log all the way back out.
Now - is there any way to verify the integrity of the db (and fix it)? Or to export/reimport the db without losing all my bindings and management settings in workgroup manager, but get a cleaner running copy?1. The OD master must have a static IP address on the local network, not a dynamic address.
Check
2. You must have a working DNS service, and the server's hostname must match its fully-qualified domain name. To confirm, select the server by name in the sidebar of the Server application window, then select the Overview tab. Click the Edit button on the Host Name line. On the Accessing your Server sheet, Domain Name should be selected. Change the Host Name, if necessary. The server must have at least a three-level name (e.g. "server.yourdomain.com"), and the name must not be in the ".local" top-level domain, which is reserved for Bonjour.
Check
3. The primary DNS server used by the server must be 127.0.0.1 (that is, itself) unless you're using another server for internal DNS. The only DNS server set on the clients should be the internal one, which they should get from DHCP if applicable.
Using active directory, but valid DNS all the way around
4. Follow these instructions to rebuild the Kerberos configuration on the master.
5. If you use authenticated binding, check the validity of the master's certificate. The common name must match the hostname and domain name. Deselecting and then reselecting the certificate in Server.app has been reported to have an effect in some cases. Otherwise delete all certificates and create new ones.
6. Unbind and then rebind the clients in the Users & Groups preference pane. Use the fully-qualified domain name of the master.
I'll look into the above, but I'm really trying to avoid rebinding 60+ machines yet again.
7. Reboot the master and the clients.
It works for a while and then just gives up. As stated - rebooting clears it - for a while.
Is there a way - I have not yet looked at the kerberos instructions - to validate the validity of the database and repair it without rebinding/losing everything?
8. Don't log in to the server with a network user's account.
Local admin all the way....
9. Disable any internal firewalls in use, including third-party "security" software.
none in effect or on.
10. If you've created any replica servers, delete them.
Done this, and back. Can try it again....
11. As a last resort, export all OD users. In the Open Directory pane of Server, delete the OD server. Then recreate it and import the users. Ensure that the UID's are in the 1001+ range. -
Re: Satellite A500-1EN - Nvidia display driver stopped responding

What a load of rubbish changing a theme just does that changes your theme I did this the day I brought mine still the drivers crash and re-start. huh. -
Satellite A500 - NVIDIA driver stopped responding and has recovered
Hello.
I have a TOSHIBA Satellite A500-1GP. I bought this laptop 1 mounth ago, and from 2 weeks before I start to have problem with it. The screen it goes black, like 2-3 seconds, after is appear this message " Nvidia driver stopped responding and has recovered" Is really start to stressing me. I install the laptop with all his original driver, and his original Windows 7. I didn't make any reinstall, or something else.
The updates ar UP TO DATE, and I have no ideea what he should want from my life. Like this are all the new models ? Start to make problems from the begining ? I'm waiting some answers..
Thanks..My config:
- Toshiba Satellite A500-1GR
- Process: Intel Core i5
- RAM: 4096 Mo DDR3
- Graphic card: nVidia GeForce GT 330M
I had the same problem the graphic driver installed was the 258.96 Version. I kept it up-to-date using nVidia official web site... Afterwards, I believe I was wrong to do so.
I did as you suggested.
- I went to the [Toshiba Support Center|http://fr.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/generic/SUPPORT_PORTAL/]
- I downloaded and installed the 20/08/10 BIOS Update
- I downloaded and installed the 08/06/10 Display Driver
After that, I checked the version of the GeForce GT 330M driver, it's now 188.75.
I have no problem since I did this in the beginning of this afternoon. What a relief !
Thank for your Support!
If I encounter the issue again, I will notify it in this thread, but I hope this issue is solved and that I won't need to! -
Toshiba Satellite P500 "Display Driver stopped responding and has recovered."
I have a Toshiba Satellite P500/XEO PSPGSA - 1XE08L Windows 7 Home Premium (64bit) system. I’ve received the following random message Since I bought the computer back in 2011--- “Display Driver stopped responding and has recovered.” Since I have bought the computer I have returned it to Harvey Norman where I purchased it from for them to fix the issue. They have reformatted and whiped the computer a couple times aswell as going to the toshiba website and installing the latest drivers. I also have done the same steps as Harvey Norman.
The computer has been sent back to Toshiba also, It was overheating so Toshiba has put a new CPU into the computer to fix that issue and also the hard drive had a fault sector so Toshiba installed a new hard drive. When Toshiba had the laptop they tried to fix this issue with no result.
This issue is more annoying then anything because it happens often (a few times a day) and some of the time when the driver fails and the screen stays black, the only way you can fix this is a hard shut down by holding the off button.
I have looked at all the threads and have seen a lot of people having this problem. I have tried all the ideas and people's ways to fix this issue but nothing has worked.
This problem needs to be solved and I don't want to hear that I need to reformat my computer or restore it to factory settings like tech support have told me to do because both myself and Harvey Norman has done this and IT HASN'T Fixed the issue. This issue can't be good for the computer..
I am very dissapointed, after nearly 2 years of having this laptop the problem hasn't been fixed and Toshiba has no idea how to fix this issue. This laptop cost me over 2500 dollars and I have had more problems then I would have had with a 500 dollar computer.No reply from Toshiba yet? Great customer service.
Anyways this is a snapshot of my screen going black and then coming back with a message popping up stating that the Display Driver has stopped responding and has recovered.
As you can see the window that I am in turns fully black after the driver recovers, I have to close the window and re open it. This happens many times a day.
I also am getting the display Driver crashing and the whole screen turns black and stays black, no matter what you do the screen stays black. I hit Cntrl + Alt + Del and nothing works making me shut it down by holding the on/off key
I do a lot of business on this computer and use it for all purposes. Due to this issue, every time the screen goes black and I have to hard restart the computer I lose all my work. Due to not knowing when this will happen I am having to lose a lot of work and start all over again.
This is ridiculous and Needs to be fixed. I am a Toshiba Customer and I have spent my money for the best of your products and I am very disappointed with the outcome. There has been no help, I have had nothing but issues and the customer service and support for your company is atrocious.
In future I will no longer be buying Toshiba and I know a lot of other people who have seen this issue and had the same problems with Toshiba support that they won't be using Toshiba either. -

Satellite C660 - display driver stopped responding
I have a 3 year old Toshiba Satellite C660 and every time I play on Sims 3 the game crashes and the screen flashes black to white and displays an error message which reads "Display Driver stopped responding" and sometimes it even ends up being a blue screen saying there is a problem with the software?
I not very computer savvy so if you could explain to me in simple terms how to rectify this problem
ThanksThe others asked for OS. This means Operating System like Windows ;)
The notebook Satellite C660-11K was preinstalled with Windows 7.
I assume you are still using this OS.
Now to the graphic card.
The notebook was equipped with an 1-st generation Intel i3 CPU (Nehalem) containing the HD graphic card.
So if you need an graphic card driver, you should check the Intel page for latest driver.
I found this latest one:
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=22518&lang=eng
Its a zip package.
Download and unzip the package.
Now go to device manager and choose update driver. Now you have to use the Advanced installation procedure. This allows you to choose the driver files from the unzipped Intel graphic driver folder.
Then reboot the notebook.
Good luck -
Firefox 5 stops responding after I use it for awhile. Once I close it through the task manager, it refuses to reopen and I am forced to restart my computer to get Firefox to work again.
Note: This problem also occurred in Firefox 3 before I updated.Try running Firefox in [[Safe Mode]]. If it functions properly in that configuration, then one of your add-ons is the culprit.

Satellite A500 - Display driver stopped responding
Hi,
3 weeks ago I bought brand new Toshiba A500. I post here because I didn't find any helpful solution.
Here is specification:
Processor: intel core i3 M330 2.13GHz
Graphic: NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M (1024 MB)
Hard drive: MJA2320BH G2 (320 GB, 5400 RPM, SATA-II)
RAM: 2X 2 GB DDR3-1066 DDR3 SDRAM (7-7-7-20 @ 533 MHz) (6-6-6-18 @ 457 MHz)
Audio: Realtek ALC272 @ Intel Ibex Peak PCH
System: Windows 7 64bit - directed from Toshiba
The issue is: at random situations, the screen is turn black for a couple of seconds, then the message is pop up saying "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered - display driver NVIDIA Kernel Mode Driver, Version 187.98 stopped responding and has successfully recovered." It happens several times per day.
Sometimes display driver can't be recovered and than system hangs and must be reset. Problem occur at first day after five minutes of using (when there wasn't install anything without OS).
Problem occurs always during normal working with applications (MS office, firefox, etc.). It's completely random - there in not two the same situations - so when I watch hd films in youtube on full screen it crashes several times, but when I restart OS and than play the same movie it works correctly.
Application causes this problem is called TDR (Time-out Detection and Recovery).
This application reset GPU when didn't get respond during 2 sec. But in Windows7 registry doesn't have entries controlled this application.
Since than I tried following solutions:
- BIOS update;
- System reinstall;
- Display driver update to version 197.16;
- Checking temperature on graphic card (when issue occurs temperature on graphic card didn't exceed 47deg, and processor 36deg);
- Java update (older version of Java can causes some device problems);
- Adobe update (same as Java);
- Turn off aero;
- Windows 7 updates;
- Turn off audio (realtek card);
None of them works.
The problem didn't occur during playing games (i.ex. Witcher). I can play 8 hours and nothing weird happens.
I notice also that problem occurs during opening some applications or entering new tasks (when energy demand rapidly increases).
I wondering that is some driver problem or I should return the laptop to the service.
I suspect that problem can be to big difference in voltage on graphic card but I can't verified that.
If somebody meet with this problem I will appreciate any help.hi,
i had the same issue with my A500-1dn equipped with GT 230 M, getting the message ,,Display driver stopped responding,,. I updated the card graphic driver from nvidia.com 3 weeks ago and since that time it' s gone ( I hope forever).
