Satellite P855-S5312 - limiter effect on speakers?

There seems to be some sort of limiter effect with audio coming from speakers. In other words, if volume is at say 100,  quiet audio will be amplified but if a loud sound comes, it seems to be compressed compared to the other audio. Its a bit like a compressor used in music production. This doesn't affect audio output from headphones just the laptop speakers. It's not an intense change, but a noticibly annoying one i'd like to remove.

Hi! I doubt if this is what your looking for, but is all I can come up with for now. Better replies may come latter.

  • No Audio, Satellite P855-S5312 laptop

(Windows 8). Never had any sound problems in almost two years, but when I tried to play a file like the one below ,

my entire audio got knocked out; nothing. I did a refresh install a few days ago and it came back. Tried playing this file today and, presto, no more sound.
any idea as to what's causing this?
    Much appreciated.

  • Eco utility + few issues on Satellite P855

Hi guys, I am happy user of Satellite P855-11Q. Unfortunately due to software issues, I was forced to reinstall Windows system on my computer. This situation entailed the following problems:
    - I cannot use eco utility software - I've downloaded driver from the Toshiba website, but it doesn't work properly. An error is occurring all the time, not to mention the fact that the button of eco utility doesn't work at all!.
    - I cannot find out how can I use my led backlight (is there any driver for that?)
    - FN button doesn't work for dimming/ brightening the screen.
Thank you in advance for help!

    Hi
You mentioned, you have installed the system again.
What Windows did you install exactly?
Did you use the Toshiba HDD recovery / recovery disk or did you install clean system?
If you installed clean Windows system, then drivers and tools needs to be installed too
And I think this is the key you did not install all Toshiba Utilities which would control the Eco modus, multimedia button and FN buttons.
First of all you should install the Toshiba VAP (value added package). This is the most important software package! Without the VAP, the FN buttons or multimedia buttons would not work! Also the Eco modus requires this package!

  • Re: Satellite P855-31V - Downgrade to Windows 7 and driver install order

I recently bought my first Toshiba laptop and after a few tries with W8, I would like to downgrade it to the previous version, of which I own a valid license of the Pro edition.
I checked which wlan card i had installed (my "PC Information" is below) and downloaded all 44 files available from support.
I updated the bios to 6.50, loaded the default values, changed the "secure boot" to disable and also changed the "boot mode" to csm boot. This allowed me to install W7.
I start installing the drivers: chipset, Intel display driver, Intel Management Engine Interface, Rapid Storage Technology Driver and some more and that's when things start to get ugly - some drivers aren't supported by W7, the nvidia drivers don't recognize the video card, upon reboot after installing some of the drivers windows starts to complain and tries to repair things. A mess.
Did I mess the order of the installs? If so, can anyone post the correct procedure? There are 44 files, some with names like "Toshiba System Driver", "Registry Patch"... I don't know when to install these, plus some of the other files don't have an accurate description.
If W7 can not run correctly on this machine I will have to upgrade it W8 Pro (as I need remote desktop), and again will have to install all drivers, so the correct order to install the drivers and utilities is still very much needed.
Thanks in advance for any helpful input.

I checked the Toshiba EU driver page too.
I found only the Win 8 drivers for Satellite P855 PSPKFE
So possibly you have chosen the Win 7 drivers for another P855 series and therefore not all drivers were compatible
To be honest, the special order is not really necessary only few drivers require right order.
For example BT filter package needs to be installed before BT stack also the Toshiba VAP should be installed before other tools have been installed.

  • Cannot use HDMI port on my Satellite P855-108

    Hi all,
I have a problem with my Toshiba Satellite P855-108.
When I connect the computer to a external monitor, this works perfectly with VGA but this does not work with HDMI (see error message here: [http://s4.postimg.org/5mzl8adnx/Erreur.jpg]).
I tested on 1 computer screen and 3 TV (with the certainty that the HDMI cable is ok).
One of these TV is a Toshiba TV with REGZA-Link.
    Normally, the drivers are updated.
Thanks a lot for your help

    Thank you for your feedback.
Hey ! I don't know how that is possible but *I just tried again now to answer your question and it works on my screen here !*
I will try on my TV this evening and I come back to you...
Maybe an automatic Windows update solved the problem...
Keep fingers crossed for the same result with my TV ;).

  • Satellite P855-34K can't boot in CSM mode from USB or ODD

Hi everyone, first time here for me.
I recently bought a Satellite P855-34K laptop, with UEFI, and I'm finding impossible to boot with UEFI set into CSM mode when using USB sticks or CDs/DVDs.
And yes, I obviously DID disable Secure Boot and switched to CSM boot in UEFI's setup.
Fast boot has always been disabled, too.
I tried to toggle USB3.0/2.0 and the activation of USB in sleep mode, no way.
Plus, that would make a difference for USB only, as I said optical media don't boot either.
All medias (USB sticks and optical) work flawlessly on other computers, and don't support UEFI (so CSM booting is a must for me). I even tried two USB sticks on another, fairly recent, Toshiba laptop of a friend of mine (can't remember the model right now), and CSM boot worked flawlessly on that (I obviously needed to toggle the Secure Boot and UEFI/CSM boot options).
Do note that USB sticks set up for UEFI boot DO work. In fact I have two OSes on my HDD, both set to boot via UEFI, and I installed the second OS with a UEFI stick.
One more interesting fact: UEFI setup (F2 at boot) displays USB sticks make and model correctly. UEFI boot menu (F12 at boot) DOESN'T do that in CSM mode, but DOES in UEFI mode (obviously sticks won't boot in UEFI).
I tried to search both on this forum and on Google, and I wasn't able to find an answer.
Talking with Toshiba webform and phone support (and after going with them through every single UEFI/BIOS option and finding everything fine), they suggested to send the laptop to one of their service centers near me to better analyze the problem.
But since this looks like a potential UEFI bug to me on my peculiar model, sending the laptop to them would be of little use: they would likely acknowledge the error in UEFI, but until Toshiba releases an update, nothing could be done; plus, I would have to go through the hassle of sending my laptop to another town and be without it for some days (the nearest service center is not quite near to my town).
By the way, I have the latest BIOS (UEFI actually) version: 6.70.
Well, congrats for reading all this :), sometimes I'm too verbose!
    Now the questions:
    - Does anyone with the same model have this problem?
    - To Toshiba forum personnel reading this: if it's a problem affecting this model, is Toshiba aware of the issue and/or doing something about it?
    - Are there any workarounds other than using/setting up UEFI-enabled boot media? Yes, I know UEFI is the long-term solution and eventually every OS will support it, but right now not every OS does and I NEED to boot from other media for various reasons.
    Thanks in advance!

    > +Firstly it's worth noting that it is possible to to disable secure boot in the 6.70 BIOS. However this option is only available when the user password is not set in the security menu. After enabling or disabling the password a reboot is required to make the secure boot enable/disable option either available or unavailable.+
    > +...+
    > +I selected the 'reset to factory defaults' option on the exit menu. The machine was then able to boot from USB and DVD. The boot order was also respected.+
Hi everyone, sorry for disappearing here, was busy... and couldn't carry on all the tests I wanted.
However, the good news is that what *michael_toshiba_forum* found apparently works for me, too!
*I loaded the setup defaults from the BIOS (UEFI) setup, and now it appers I can finally boot both CSM and UEFI media!*
Great find michael, thank you! By the way, USB sticks make and models now DO appear in the F12 menu while in CSM!
*EDIT:* of course, thanks to Tonny too, for pointing out the link to the other thread!
Didn't test all my media thoroughly, though. I'll post more accurate results as soon as I can.
However, while it looks like we have the solution to the problem, we still don't know the cause, and I feel this deserves to be investigated more.
Let me explain my point: I checked (and double-checked on the phone with a Toshiba tech) every +single+ UEFI setup option, and couldn't find anything wrong, as I said in my original post. One interesting UEFI feature is that it introduces "UEFI variables" (as I read online), and as far as I understand there is +not+ a way to interact with them in UEFI setup (at least not on my PC!). If the problem was a wrongly set UEFI variable, maybe doing a "load default" did reset both UEFI parameters +and+ variables.
And since UEFI variables are intended to be modified by programs too (unlike legacy BIOS parameters stored in CMOS), I think we may have some scenarios where programs could potentially trigger the problem again. *michael_toshiba_forum* said in his other thread that his problem was triggered after upgrading to Win8.1. Maybe in my case this is due to the second OS I installed (Kubuntu 13.04) just after buying my laptop.
Anyway, I'll do some tests again and do some research and report my findings.
IMHO, if my theory is right, Toshiba should create a README for this, the solution to this problem looks not so obvious (nor me neither Toshiba support thought about it).

  • Satellite P855-10G runs out of battery even when turned off

    Hi everyone,
I have bought the Toshiba Satellite P855-10G, but im terrified because he runs out of battery even when turned off..
Anyone knows how can i solve the issue?
    Best regards,
    Igor Tarelho

    Hi
Access the BIOS and turn OFF the options like: Waking up on LAN and Keyboard.
In Toshiba HW Setup I recommend disabling the USB Sleep and Charge function as well
Both enabled options might allow discharging the battery even if the unit is OFF

  • How to use Compressor / Limiter effect?

    Hello all,
I inserted a 2nd voice track that needs increased volume beyond raising the timeline volume bar. When I drop Compressor / Limiter effect onto the voice clips in the timeline and adjust Threshold(dB) there is no sound change at all. I have headphones on. I've tried all combinations of checking and un-checking Compression & Preserve Volume boxes. Am I missing a part of the set up on the audio clip itself?

Try using the Dynamic Processor filter.
When I drop Compressor / Limiter effect onto the voice clips in the timeline and adjust Threshold(dB) there is no sound change at all
FWIW, you won't notice a change in the Compressor Limiter filer until you apply some amount of compression (increase the compression ratio).

  • Limiter effect not limiting

    Hi
Example: When I apply a Limiter effect with a -5.5 limit to a clip, the audio meter still shows it rising above that. What's up with this thing, I've applied it to a number of clips, it doesn't seem to function with the precision that a limiter filter that looked exactly the same in STP did. It seems to have some effect but my ears and eyes say it's not doing it's job.
    Suggestions?
    best,
    elmer

The bulk of the session should be backwards compatible, but some effects from newer releases will not load in earlier versions, as you've noted.  For compatible effects, you should see the correct parameter values, though the preset name used will not be displayed.  (Presets are a trigger to adjust parameter values, not stored as a parameter itself.)

  • Limiter Effect not effective

    Hi
I applied a limiter effect to some clips after copying an adjusted one. Fine. They all have the adjustment. But the limit I applied (-5.5) doesn't seem to have much affect. The audio meter shows audio way above -5.5. And it's the exact same looking filter that worked so well in SoundTrack Pro.
    Any ideas?

  • P855-s5312 usb boot device blank

Ok I have been messing with this for the last two days searching all over the place and it's starting to be more of a headache then (in my eyes) it should be...
Ok here's the quick run down. I've been trying to downgrade this laptop from Windows 8 backt to Windows 7 I have a Windows 7 sysprep image that I created last year that I have used to install on many machines that has nvever been an issue with installing. Even now I can plug it into my other laptop and it boots right in to setup. I'm thinking it has something to do with the uefi system but I could be wrong.
What I'm trying to do is boot my Windows 7 image off of my usb stick (pny) to install but whenever I go to selec the boot device it lists USB but to the right of that where the actual device name should be it's blank.
I've tried removing and reinserting at different times to see if it just wasn't loading correctly but to no avail.
If anyone has an idea I would greatly appreciate it.
    Thanks in Advance.

    Satellite P855-S5312
In order to boot from earlier media, Ryan, follow this procedure.
-Shut down Windows 8 while pressing the Shift key to completely power off.
-Power on and press F2 while the Toshiba logo is displayed to enter the UEFI Setup Menu.
-Go to the Security tab and set the "Secure Boot" setting to "Disabled".
-Go to the Advanced tab, enter "System Configuration" and set the Boot Mode to "CSM Boot."
-Press F10 to save and exit.
Also, I expect Sysprep expects an MBR disk. So you probably need to use a partitioning tool to remove the GPT partitions. EaseUS has instructions here using its partition manager (free for personal use).

  • Satellite P855-33X - canno past the first menu on Blu-Ray Disc Player

    Hello,
I have a Toshiba Satellite P855-33X . Whenever I try to play a Blu-ray Disc (3d or 2d) on the Toshiba Blu-ray Disc player, I can never get past the first menu (either language selection or main menu depending on disc). I'm unable to click on the menu or use the keyboard to select the options on the menu, the bluray is unresponsive.
It has worked fine in the past so I'm wondering if there's been a recent update which could have made this an issue?
I have Windows 8, recently updated to 8.1.
    Thanks for your help.

    > I have Windows 8, recently updated to 8.1.
Im wondering if you have updated the Toshiba Blu-ray Disc player after the update from Win 8 to Win 8.1?
On the Toshiba EU driver page you will find all the Toshiba drivers tools and utilities for Win 8.1.
Usually after the Win 8.1 upgrade, the software should be updated as well.

    Thanks!

Check that you're using the latest OS version released (upto-date OS) and make sure your Blu-Ray drive has the correct f/w... every once in awhile a piece of hardware slips through the cracks and doesn't get its required f/w update to handle new features... if all is well software wise and all version/rev. No's jive, you may have a problem in either
A; The Blu-Ray Optics and or Encoder/Decoder are bad and the drive is scrap,
    or
B; The Display's 3D Optics sensor and or the Display Panel itself are scrap...theres no fixing a defective panel and its not a cost effective solution for anyone to change the panel short of warantee.
    or
C; The graphics adapter is scrap, some are interchangeable and socketed, some are not, depends on the hardware matrix and rev. of your mainboard.
Connect your PC to a 3D-TV with the HDMI output and see if the machine outputs 3D to the outboard display... this will help diagnose the problem and remove suspect devices from question. If it outputs 3D, your panel is bad, if it doesn't, your panel is good, and now you need to start walking backward through the hardware to see where the problem one lies.
**Dont forget, windoze is great at fukking up software FAST, your problem might be a stupid little registry keying issue.
Unfortunatley you're dealing with a problem that has potentially thousands of causes, none necessarily liked to another. it could be simply a software conflict in the machine brought on by a user installed driver or software suite that just won't work properly with another in the system.

  • Satellite X500-165 - Limitation of SSD life

    Having just purchased a new X500-165 direct from Toshiba;
I have a question about the Solid State Disk Drive which is the main drive in this model laptop.
I understand these can have a limited read/write life.
I am using a software application that is directly connected to a stock exchange feed.
As a result is constantly being updated with live data of thousands of shareprice and news items.
So my question is do I need to worry that this will kill the SSD?
Would I be better of installing and running the application in the slower conventional backup drive instead?

    Hello
Dont worry about this and just have fun with your notebook. Nobody can say how long a SSD or HDD will life but the same could happen with HDD too.
Thats also the reason why a backup should be done from time to time.
So I dont see a reason to install this software on another drive because SSD is much faster.
