Satellite P870-119 PSPLBE became quite slow

Hi everybody and please forgive my poor english.
My Laptop became quite slow for a few months now. I tried to repair this by myself, then with the help of a computer forum, virus search and cleaning has been made plus some other repairing actions, but nothing helped.
Everything seems to work properly but the laptop is obviously slower. Especially in the launching of any application even win 7 ones, which take a longer time to start.
The airfan launches (loudly) too showing that "effort" is necessary to process and my norton internet security"s app monitor says that processes (svhost) are consuming too much.
Yesterday, my starting screen when i press F8, returned to the english version (my laptop is in french) and the "repair windows" line has disappeared from it. I only have the traditionnal start in safe mode etc!
I reached a limit in what i can do to repair my laptop and i don't want to do a reset to factory, cause i don't want to reinstall and reconfigure my computer from scratch again.

If you dont want to reinstall/recover the notebook, I think that your workaround options are very limited.
I dont know how long you are using this system on your notebook but fact is that due to the application installation and the usage of different software the system performance may become slower
The processes running simultaneously in the system background could slow down the system.
Also the applications like Norton Anti Virus or Internet security application could affect the performance due to live virus scanning.
Last but not least an HDD which does not work properly could slow down the notebook as well.
What could be a possible workaround?
I think first of all you should clean the system using some cleaning tools; i.e CCLeaner.
CCleaner is a good freeware software in order to repair the registry and to remove some junk files
Furthermore I would recommend you to switch to another Antivirus software. Norton is good but from my own experience its needs to much system resources and slow down the computer.
In my case the notebook needed too much time for booting up the system Now I use Avast antivirus and Avira Antivir software. Both are freeware and work flawlessly.
Last but not least you should check all background processes in the Startup tab in msconfig.
You could disable background processes which are not very necessary. If you dont know the single processes, use google!

How much free space do you have on the drive, adam?
Perhaps the most common causes of slow operation after you have been using a computer for an extended period of time are are:
1) insufficient hard drive free space - this results in substantial free space (and ultimately file) fragmentation. It also means that you are regularly reading from , and writing to, the much slower inner sectors of the disc.
Aim to keep about 20% of the drive empty at all times (10% at an absolute bare minimum). If you are a video or audio buff who regularly works with large files in situations which demand speedy access you may need to go as high as 50% free.
2) Directory corruption - boot up every month or so from your OS DVD and run Disk Utility to "repair disk" - see http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1417
3) Corrupted or duplicated fonts - a variety of applications install their own fonts and it is not uncommon to find that some are duplicated, or become corrupted, or are rendered obsolete by changes in the OS over time. Use Font Book or a third party utility to check for them and then remove them. See Kurt lang's excellent article about font management for more information.
4) The presence of a "rogue" background process that is consuming CPU time. Many different things can be involved here. Virus checkers, printer drivers (especially if an item is hung up in a print spooler), just about any process that runs in the background. Corrupted spotlight or .DS_Store files and the like can produce such issues too. http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1473 provides information on how to use Activity Monitor to locate "runaway processes" (which can also affect battery charge life, etc).

Time Capsule became very slow

Hello all,
Yesterday I decided to connect my time capsule (1tb) to my mac mini with an ethernet cable (cat6) instead of the wireless setup I have been using for quite some time. At first the transfer rate was high, as I expected, but then after an hour or two it became immensly slow. A file from 50mb would take over 30 minits to transfer from my timecapsule to the mac mini and vice versa.
I changed the timecapsule setup throught the airport configuration tool, but the only thing increasing the speed was to change the setting for the ethernet - wan - port to 1000 mb/s, however this ended in high transfer rates but I could no longer connect to the internet.
I started looking for solutions on the internet but all solutions did not solve my problem.
I changed the ACK from 3 to 0 without any results...
So that is why I posted this topic and I am desperately looking for help...

Are you reusing an old backup? That can be very slow.. you need to create a new backup for the new computer.
You need to figure out is this a general wireless issue.. or is it the TC just getting old.. a Gen2 is well past useby date.

Or is that what you have there. Doesn't look like what I see in the Log.
Test by copying a single large file to the TC.. say 1GB and checking the speed. If that is fast. then you need to figure the old backup is not working well.
Also test with an ethernet connection so you can determine the issue is wireless or not.. when you test with ethernet shut off the wireless so it is not going to have two paths to the same destination.

1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem.
2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to collect information about the state of the computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. However, you should be cautious about running any kind of program (not just a shell script) at the request of a stranger on a public message board. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed: Copy a line of text from this web page into the window of another application. Wait for the script to run. It usually takes a few minutes. Then paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page. The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. Details follow.
4. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
7. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
8. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "syntax error," enter
exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
9. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
10. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
[Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.
11. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
12. When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." It means that the forum software has misidentified something in the post as a violation of the rules. If that happens, please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.

My Blackberry Z10 became extremely slow after OS update to version 10.3.1.2243. For example it sends text message 10-15 seconds after send button has been hit.
Can not answer the phone when a caller is calling (answer slide interface is unrespnsovie), if I want to launch any application screen turns black and nothing happens, etc.
Does anyone experience similar issues?

A quick read of this site will answer your final question quite clearly. The "fix" depends on several factors, but given what you describe I recommend you immediately update, via AutoLoader, to the most recent version (.2582)...some of the prior versions contain some particularly challenging issues, which are reported to be fixed in this version.

Satellite L775-119 crashes when charging

I've had my Satellite L775-119 since 2011. Recently I've noticed it will crash when I'm charging it when booted up into Windows, especially when play video online, when I disconnect the charger, the fan will slow down and act normally.
I'm thinking that Windows may need wiping and re-installing, its seems to do it when Im trying to do too much multi tasking, any one had the same problem or can offer any advice please?

Im confused about your message.
When does the notebook crash? Only when the AC adaptor is connected or also while running on battery power?
Since its not clear for me if its an software or hardware related issue, I would recommend you to test the notebook using the factory settings. I mean you should recover the notebook back to factory state using recovery disk.
Perform some tests and post some feedback.

After installing Snow Leopard, Mail became very slow contacting provider

With Leopard, our Mail on different Macs where very quick to contact the provider. You know what I mean, not sending or receiving the messages, I mean the connection procedure at the beginning. With Snow Leopard this procedure became very slow. Never understood why

Launch Mac Mail.
From the Menu Bar, click Mail/Preferences.
Make note of your preferences then locate this file.
com.apple.Mail.plist
Move that file to the Trash and restart your Mac.
Also, try repairing disk permissions.
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.
And try Mac OS X - Maintenance

Windows 8.1 upgrade issues on Satellite P870 - PSPLFA

Hi there,
For better or worse over the weekend I have downloaded windows 8.1 onto a toshiba laptop (p870 PSPLFA model) that was running windows 8. Video card is NVIDIA GeForce GT 630M 2GB with Optimus + Intel HD Graphics 4000

couple of issues:
(a) I am having a few problems getting windows 8.1 to work properly on this laptop and can't get/find new drivers from the toshiba website to sort out the video card properly.
Any ideas of how or when I can download video drivers that are suitable for this laptop?
Not overly keen on uninstalling and rolling back to windows 8 now that I have gone this far...
I have a call in yesterday with microsoft yesterday that seems to be going nowhere to fix a couple of other things following this upgrade.
(b) On the windows 8.1 machine my internet connection when running IE11
now seems a bit flaky and suspect this is a internet explorer 11/windows 8.1 issue (other laptops on my wireless network running windows 7 and XP are working fine and not dropping out as well as can access all the info I can't on the win 8.1 machine) which seems to be a bit of a common issues looking at some other forums and
(c) I can't download or open files from google docs (screen just freezes most of the way through the download) on the upgraded windows 8.1 machine.

After updating my ios4 to ios 6.1, it became very slow. Browsing my music takes forever. How do i fix it to make it fast again without losing my music files?

After updating my ipod touch 4th gen ios 4.1 to ios 6.1.6, browsing my music files became super slow..I lost all my music files and was even forced to download new ones..But im not happy with maneuvering my music files after the update as it takes really slow to move from one playlist to another..I wish I could downgrade it to my original ios 4 as it was much faster then in maneuvering music files. Or is there a way for me to make it faster???Im only using my ipod touch 4th gen for listening to my music files and nothing more. I also noticed that whenever I dock my ipod touch to my Bose sound Dock, the remote control only function on its volume controls but not the skip buttons. i sent my Bose dock to Bose service center and told me that my Bose dock system is working fine but not my Ipod touch 4th gen.. Lightroom 5 is quite slow in importing photos

Lightroom 5 is quite slow in importing photos from a memory card connected to a reader using USB 3.0! After installing LR5, I didn't change any default settings. Interestingly, this wasn't found in beta testing. LR4 was what I call quick or snappy. Because of LR5's slow performance, I went back to LR4 after paying for the Cloud subscription.
With substantial difficulty and after some time passed, I eventually was able to speak to Support which offered no fix for this issue. I hope that it can be resolved soon.

Selecting the Import from below in Files does help speed up the start of the Import as mentioned in the thread you referred to but is still maybe three or so times slower than in LR4. At least it makes using LR5 more bearable.

IMac became very slow after upgrading to Mavericks

after upgrading to Mavericks my mac became very slow, i can´t do anything on it without waiting at least15 min. Does someone know what i can do to make it better?

Mine too, I am really frustrated, since I read all reviews and asked some friends and co-workers about mavericks, they are all happy, but my macbook is almost useless now.
I tried using Mackeeper, but then apple says it´s a malware, so there´s my solution....
Anyone with a good answer for this problem ???
Is there a way to download Snow Leopard and do a clean install ??

Toshiba Satellite P870 upgraded to Win 8.1 does not boot

I have a Toshiba Satellite P870 with Win 8 preinstalled. Soon after upgrade to Win 8.1 and basically successful removal of “watermark error” (secure boot activated) the machine stopped booting completely: after pressing the power button ventilator sound
is heard with periodically changing loudness as well as clicking sound from the speakers. The screen stays black. Attempts to start the PC through pressing F2 or zero buttons did not produce any result. Neither did I succeed with recovery discs I created before:
the system simply does not boot from the disk. It looks like I tried all options offered by Microsoft and Toshiba. I would be happy to roll back to factory settings.
Could someone give me hint what to do next?

For the issue, let us know how to remove the “watermark error".
Meanwhile, I would like to confirm if you could access the BIOS.
I suggest you update the BIOS version to test it.
If you want to repair the startup issue, you should use windows 8.1 recovery discs or installation discs.
Meanwhile, if you cannot access the BIOS, it may be caused by hardware, I suggest you contact the Toshiba manufacturer for further help.

Satellite P870-026 Win 8.1 - no mirror screen to TV using Intel WiDi

I have followed the Windows procedures to mirror my Satellite P870-026 screen to a new Samsun TV with mirroring capability.
The process is under the Charms menu and then to select Devices, Project, Add a Wireless Display. The first few times I tried, it found the TV but it usually came up with the message "No devices found".
If it did find the TV it didn't project the laptop's screen and the connection would drop out quickly. Now, it never finds the TV.
My Galaxy S3 phone connects and mirrors its screen very quickly and is a stable connection, so the TV is working fine. The TV is the current model Samsung UA60H7000AW.
As I understand the issue might stem from the graphics drivers, I've updated the Intel HD Graphics 4000 drivers but that did nothing.
I downloaded "Intel(R) WiDi Update Tool.exe" but it won't run. An error message says "Failed to launch due to network connectivity issue". I have no idea what his means as I never have trouble with WiFi.
I did find one suggestion on the internet, but relating to a different computer, and was to delete and reinstall the graphics drivers but it also warned of the need to be very careful.
Am I even going down the right path looking as the graphics drivers?
Any suggestions please.

Thanks for the Toshiba notice. Working through the Resolution section, my laptop doesn't have "Intel Wireless Display" in its programs listing so there is noting to delete. The method to then connect a wireless display is the procedure I've been following but results in "No Devices Found".

my laptop does have Miracast as I do get the Add Device option so it should work. I seem to be back to square 1.

My macbook pro became very slow all of a sudden?

I just bought a used macbook pro early 2012. It was all restored and nice when I got it. It has worked perfectly for about a week and then I don't know why, but all of a sudden it became very slow in every aspect; Booting, opening apps, even surfing on the web became slower and laggy. It also seems like it has a battery problem when it is in standby. Because it uses a lot of power. Actually so much that it might go dead just by standing for a few hours. Is there anything I can do?

When you got the MBP, was Mavericks the installed OSX? What you may have to do is boot the MBP with the OPTION+COMMAND+R keys. This will connect you to the Apple servers and allow you to erase the HDD and install the original OSX that the MBP came with. This sets up the MBP to your Apple ID and will permit you to install any appropriate updates accordingly. You may then download and install Mavericks from the App Store.

My Macbook Pro suddenly became really slow

3 Days ago my Macbook Pro suddenly became really slow. I can't run anything without my computer freezing. I've had my Macbook Pro since mid-2012 (21 months). The first thing i did was check my activity monitor, which said that I was apparently using 4 GB (half) of my Macbook Pro's RAM, even though nothing was running. The process that was using the most RAM was kernal.task, which was only around 600mb of RAM. All the processes RAM amounts only added up to around 1 GB, not four. I can't even open safari without my computer freezing. The amount of RAM being "used" on my computer slowly started to increase, even though nothing was running, until it got to all 8 GB being used. When i restart my computer, it goes back to 4 GB and starts to rise again. My processor, on the other hand, is doing nothing. Its acting normally. How do i get my computer back to its usual performance?

Since you are using Mavericks OS, the amount of RAM being used is inconsequential but the 'pressure' is. If green is showing then the RAM usage is normal. This is a change fro prior OSX's.
The usual problem will lie with the HDD, It may be too full or needs to be repaired or replaced. Go into OSX recovery and select from the 4 option menu Disk Utility. Choose First Aid and run Verify and Repair.
(Start the MBP with the OPTION key down and select the recovery partition)
If that does not solve the problem, try a safe boot:

If the MBP responds 'normally' that usually indicates that there is a third part application that is causing the problem. They have to bedeleted and reinstalled in a systematic way so that you can identify the culprit.
