Satellite Pro 410 CDT Fan Failure

I have been trying to get inside my old 410 CDT to change the fan, without success! I have unscrewed all I can find, removed the keyboard and bits under, hard disk, memory board, battery. All of the edges seem to lift up, but something is fixed in the middle. Any advice please?

Hi GrahamB,
sorry, normally Toshiba doesn't provide any disassembling manuals! You will find some tiny tips for disassembling in these forum, but not for such old machines!
Either you try it for your own or contact a Service Partner and ask them for a tip to remove the board!
When you try it for your own please be carefull because a damaged board costs more than a short telephone call!
Bye

  • Satellite Pro M40 hard drive failure - Recovery disc on new drive?

    Hi
My Satellite Pro M40 hard disk has died and I want to install a new drive. Unfortunately my old drive is 60Gig and the Toshiba parts website has only 40 Gig or 80 Gig drives.
Will I encounter any problems with the recovery disc if the hard drive is not exactly the same?
    Your advice would be appreciated.
    C

No, there shouldnt be any problem with the Toshiba recovery CD.
On the recovery CD you will find a Windows OS, Toshiba drivers and utilities and additional software.
These whole applications are packed in image files.
You should only be sure that the HDD is compatible with your notebook and will be recognized in the BIOS.
Then just simply boot from the recovery CD and the installation should start.

  • Upgrading Satellite Pro 420 CDT to Windows98

I have an old Satellite Pro 420CDT that I wish to use to test my wireless router. It was supplied pre-loaded with Windows 95 but I need to upgrade to a minimum of Windows 98.
When I run the Windows 98 installer (in upgrade mode) it tells me I need to upgrade the Toshiba Utility before proceeding. However, I cannot locate a Toshiba Utility for Windows 98. Can anyone help with this and will I need to upgrade anything else before proceeding?

Sorry but this unit is not supported with W98 and you will not be able to find any suitable driver or Toshiba tool. By the way, in my opinion you expect too much from this old unit that has just 100 MHz processor speed just a little RAM. I am not sure that it can work properly.
Did you already try to make wireless connection without installation of Toshiba tools?

Looking for a user manual and particularly a part number for the removable floppy drive --as I would like to purchase one.  Also, I don't believe the accupoint is working--am using a serial mouse (which works fine) but would like to use the computer mouse and free up the serial port for another device.  Any help, most appreciated.

  • Satellite Pro P100-465: fans are noisy

    Hello,
I have a P100-465 running XP Pro on it. I have had the laptop about 6mths now and the one thing I have noticed about this laptop is that it is SO noisy. When using the laptop the fans go on and off constantly....even if I am not doing anything resource hungry. is this normal? I understand that the machine is powerful but I can't believe this is normal.
I use to have a P25-S670 and the fans use to come on every now and then to keep the machine cool but this new laptop is INSANELY annoying. As I am typing this the fans go on and off every few seconds. It sounds like the fans RPM increases substantially but only for a second or two and then it drops down. In the BIOS I have even set the option to silent mode instead of performance mode but this hasn't made any difference. I am running all the latest drivers and firmware.
Can someone help please as this is driving me NUTS! ;-) Is there a way to control the fan speed/noise from within Windows? I remember on my P25 I could change the power options to silent mode and it made quite a big difference.

    Hi mate,
did you already cleaned your cooling system? Maybe that could be the point since such small ventilation systems are susceptible to be clobbed with dust after a while of running.
A idea would be to give your machine to a technician and ask him to clean your machine and to put some new cooling grease on the CPU.
That should help and prevent your machine from overheating or excessive fan noise.
    Cheers

  • Satellite Pro 440 CDT does not power up

Hi, I have an old 440 CDT which does not power up. Anyone any ideas???
AC is connected, power light is on, green. Battery is dead (as in buried). When I press the power button, the following happens:
    - On light is green
    - Num lock key (the one with the "A" on it) flashes 3 times: long-short-short
    - HDD light flashes on 1 time, green
    - CD light flashes on 1 time, orange
    - Popping sound in the speakers
Then it turns off again, with the power light burning green constantly.
Nothing happens on the display (tried FN F5). I also switched CD/floppy, attached both, with or without battery, no help.
    I am puzzled, please help!
    thx, Eric

    Hello Eric
Like you know, on this way it is not possible to give any precise diagnostic, just speculate what the problem can be. In my opinion it is definitely because of defective electronic on board but what exactly it is not easy to say. Try to contact someone who has experience with notebook repair procedure.

  • Satellite Pro P100 GPU Fan off or full speed after Bios-update to 4.20

    Hello,
after installing the brandnew Bios-update 4.20 the GPU fan is when the notebook is cool off. While working with it the GPU temperature rises up to 100C (very very hot), then the fan begins to run on medium speed and the GPU cools down. After a restart, eg. next day, the fan always runs on medium or high speed (very noisy!!). With the the bios version before this problem didn't appear.
Has someone the same problem with his notebook?
Did anyone have the Bios-update before 4.20 and can send it to me???
    Greets
    Rommulaner

    Hi all,
I've got a similar problem. After updating the BIOS of my SP P100 (PSPAHE) to 4.2 on of the fans runs constantly. I was very astonished about the WinPhlash Software anyway: I just wanted to see what it looks like, and it started updating BIOS virus-like automatically without any message or confirmation etc.
With the first reboot I got a bluescreen immediately after Vista started booting. With the following reboot, the system started properly - everything seemed to be ok. Since then the system obviously can't control the fan anymore.
The bluescreen-error is reproduceable - it occurs after each trial. I already tried to update BIOS with a freshly installed Vista (Recovery DVD) bfore installing a single problem - same result.
I only see 2 possibilities to perhaps solve the problem: hopefully a re-downgrade to 4.0 can successfully be done. Second possibility would perhaps be to remove Vista and install XP instead hoping that the BIOS update doesn't hang up then.
Unfortunately, the previous BIOS version is not on the support pages. . If anyone gets hold of it pls. post here.

  • Satellite Pro A10: Extraction failure error occurs while recovering procedure

Im trying to run the recovery discs on my Satellite Pro A10 but after 20 second of trying to install recovery disc 1 screen gose black and message in corner says extraction failure.
    Can you help me please?

Did you try to format and to delete whole partitions on the HDD before performing the installation from the recovery CD???
Something similar happened to me. I was not able to install the OS from the Recovery CD.
I have simply used the original Windows CD and have formatted the whole HDD.
After this procedure the Recovery CD installation has worked.

  • Satellite Pro P100 PSPAEA - Irritating Fan Noise

    Hi,
I have a Satellite Pro P100 PSPAEA and it honestly must be the most irritating laptop I have ever owned.
The problem is the cooling fan that has a tendancy to spin up to maximum regularly, sit there for a couple of seconds then spin down.
Rather than just increasing in speed to cool it kinda roars for a second or two then reduces speed. It can do this like every 15 seconds or so and is driving me nuts especially in a quiet room. I am running Windows Vista and the latest V4.4 BIOS. I am ready to kick this thing out the door and never buy Toshiba again.
But before I do this does anyone know of a solution?
    Thanks

Updating the driver does seem to have fixed the probem.
    Thank you very much!
Now if only I could get VT working the laptops stay of execution could last significantly longer!
I do recommend installing a 7200rpm drive for this particular model. The one Toshiba ships with it is appallingly slow (what were they thinking).

  • Satellite Pro A300D-151 noisy fans

    Hi
i have a year old Satellite Pro A300D-151 that make a lot of noise compared to other computers.
When i bought the computer it had vista 32-bit but since then i have installed windows 7 64-bit on it.
The noise sounds like a fan is running but the computer is not hot, and you put your hand in front of the fan air output you cant feel any air coming out. is there anyway to find out what is causing this problem and fix it?
    please, any answers are appreciated

    Hey buddy,
Do you compare your Satellite Pro A300D with other A300D models or completly other notebooks? In my opinion you should only compare it with the same model because every notebook is equipped with different hardware and cooling units.
By the way: Have you already tried to clean your notebook using compressed air spray? This could blow out the dust from the cooling ventilators and reduce the temperature.
    Check this!!!

  • Cooling fan is not working on Satellite Pro A300

    Hi Everyone
I was asked by a friend to repair their Satellite Pro A300, as their CPU Cooling Fan had stopped working even during POST bootup and the laptop would overheat and shutdown. So I thought it could one of three things:
    # Fan is clogged with dust or dirt
    # Fan bearing has failed
    # Fan power cable was loose
So I disassembled the laptop and cleaned the fan/heatsink using compressed air and checked the power connection which was solid, but this did not solve the problem, so I replaced the fan and heatsink with another one that I knew worked from the same model laptop that had a fault motherboard because of the random bios boot-up password bug (out of warranty) but still no joy.
I am beginning to believe that the fan was perfectly fine rather the motherboards cpu temperature sensor(s) that control the fan activation has failed.
Am I correct, in thinking that this is basically, irreparable without specialised tools and my friend will have content themselves with turning the system off every hourish or is there something else I am overlooking?
    Thank you, for any help.

    Hello
Im not a technician but for me it sounds like that fan connector is malfunctioning if you have already replaced the fan and therefore it would be necessary to replace the mainboard
Thats everything what I can say about this Have a look for second mainboard or notebook where you can get a cheap mainboard. Maybe it works. :)

  • Satellite Pro P200-15W: After Bios Update 1.90 fan incredibly noisy

Hi, I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro P200-15W, I've recently done a BIOS update to version 1.9 and seems to have been a big mistake :-/.
After restarting the computer I had a lot of software deconfig and now the fan has become incredibly noisy.
I have the problem with the Toshiba Vista registration software, I get this message: "Vista registration has stopped working". I've read other threads, I don't want to just disable it from the start.ini file, I'd like to actually solve the problem if there's a way.
Is there a way to change the fans configuration? I've read a Toshiba post about another notebook model that had the same problem of noisy fans after a BIOS update, they gave to that a solution with a new version of BIOS, is there a way to reverse the BIOS to the previous version? (will the restore CD be helpful for that purpose?)
    Cheers
    Edgard

    Hi
It seems the fan table was changed and renewed in the new BIOS version and therefore the fans run ofttimes.
Why the fan table was changed?
Well, usually something like this is necessary to improve decrease the internal temperature while the CPU and GPU are running with full performance.
This helps to prevent the hardware from damage!!
Usually the Recovery CD formats the whole HDD (partitions too) and installs only the Toshiba image on the notebooks HDD.
The image contains the OS, drivers and additional software and has nothing to do with the BIOS update.
But you can try to recover the notebook to see if the software issues like "Vista registration" can be solved!
If you want to reverse the BIOS you have to contact the ASP in your country!!!
Sorry but this everything what I can suggest!
    Best regards

  • Media test failure check cable - Satellite Pro A10

    Hi there
i would be most gratefull if some one can help me.
I have just installed a western digital 120 gig hardrive on a toshiba Satellite Pro A10 laptop on XP. on first boot up it comes up with this media test failure check cable.
It takes a while to boot up into windows then the windows sound comes up around 10 seconds after the desktop loads up. any help on this?
Also the DVD rom drive does not read DVD's only CD's
    DVD model is SD-R2412
And is there any way tke make windows load faster and should it have the sound max driver installed or the AC Realtek.
Can someone let me know ASAP thanks syclonus.

If you order the boot priority and boot first from HDD you will not get this error anymore.
So go the BIOS with ESC key and change it.
Have you tested different DVDs in the drive? I think it could be a hardware problem. I had for a long time a similar problem that my drive does write DVDs only CDs.
There are a lot of tips how to make Windows faster. I can give you same examples: Defragment your HDD, check how many programs are in the startup folder and msconfig. Disable or remove all programs that you dont need.
Furthermore you can disable all services that you dont need (run > services.msc). Be careful what you do but I always disable automatic updates, security center, Windows Time, Help and Support, Themes and so far.
Clean up the registry. For this I use always the tool CCleaner. A very good tool and its freeware.
And if you make Windows faster the start up sound comes maybe at the right time.
All drivers you can get on the Toshiba website. Its not necessary to install other or more sound drivers.

  • Satellite Pro 6100 shuts down after 15-30 minutes

My satellite Pro 6100 cuts out after 15-30 mins operating on mains power. There is a snapping sound and all lights go out except slow flashing amber (power problem). I restore it by removing the power cable and waiting a while.
It will then boot up again. I have used two different power adaptors and two different battery packs. It also happens if running on mains with no battery in. My suspicion is an overheat cut-out. Does the Sat Pro have one? Might it be clogged with dust inside (it is 5 years old)? If so how do I clean it out. I don't think it is fan failure as I can hear the fan cut in. Advice much appreciated. Thank you.

    Hi there,
Me and my partner, have the same LapTop, and I've located the problem in connector between PSU board and MainBoard. So, if you've never opened your LapTop, now is the time, but be prepared with tools for SMD soldering. Usually, the connector on MainBoard is the problem. The reason for this is that Toshiba made flaw in design of the housing and admitted that, which resulted with court order for replacing the LapTop with some models from newer line for that time, or paying cash amount ($1.000). I intend to repair my LapTop in a way that I will replace the connectors (both on PSU and Main Board) with thin wires. I know that this is a hell of a job (160 solder points) but what can I do, I love this machine. I am working on Compaq EVO N-610c, but he can only eat the dust from Toshiba.

  • Satellite Pro 6100 switch itself OFF

    Hello,
I'm from Italy. It's 3 days that my Satellite Pro 6100 after some time (it can be 30 minutes or 3 hours) shut down itself.
I've tried to update bios from version 1,70 to 1,90 with no result. I tested my HDD and it works fine. I formatted and reinstalled WXP Pro SP2 but the problem it's always there.
When it crash, at the restart it appears "BAD RTC BATTERIES" and "BAD CMOS", I've to press F1 then I exit without changing anything.
I saw that 3 weeks ago appears at the start that message:"PXE- E61 MEDIA TEST FAILURE CHECK CABLE'' and ''PXE-MOF EXITING INTEL PXE ROM" but the notebook works fine until 2 days ago.
I don't know why but each times I restart now it stop when WINDOWS XP mark is on the cyan window (not the first WXP logo on black page, but the second on the cyan window); then to make it works I have to press CTRL + ALT + CANC and it goes to the desktop.
I don't know what to do? Toshiba center it's far from my city, if u can help me will be appreciated.
Sorry for my English, I've read some post but exactly with my problems there's no post.
Thanks in advance, that's a great notebook I hop to save it.
p.s. there's no dust on it, I tried to lift the keyboard to clean but it was already clean, even behind on the fan.

    Hello supertraz,
Please read further ahead (2nd page) in the forum on the link from my previous post. There is a written step by step guide, but...
It is not very easy to be done by yourself if you don't have the proper tools and experience... Neither do I want to encourage you to do it yourself as you might end up with a completlly damaged notebook, instead, I'd like to suggest you to consult a computer repair store in your neighborhood and ask them to resolder the specific area.
Here's a link on how to access the interior of your notebook you were asking for (with pictures):
