Satellite Pro 6070 Slim Select Bay Drive won't regonize CDs

I have a problem with my Slim Select Bay DVD drive. The disc motor is running and the laser unit is moving, but it won't recognize any disc until I flip the whole notebook on the right side.
Then after a few attempts with opening and closing the drive, the drive reads the disc at most times. So i think it's a problem with the contacts inside the notebook because windows does recognize it everytime.
Has anyone here any idea how to solve it?
Many thanks

Sorry but I don't understood your question. Obviously there is contact problem and how you think that you can solve it.
If someone write here that you should disassemble whole notebook and check or maybe clean contacts do your really want to do this?

  • Slim Select Bay HDD adapter

I put in another HDD, and wanted to use the original one (MK4021GAS) in the slim select bay (SSB) using a SSB HDD adapter. However although the manual says “insert the HDD and push forward to ensure a firm connection”, and shows a picture of this, this is not possible as the connectors on the HDD and inside the SSB HDD adapter are different. The HDD has a double row of about 30 tines/spikes, like an old serial port, and the SSB adapter has a double row of 22 flat metal rectangles, a kind of edge connector, like an old parallel port cable. Do I need to purchase some kind of additional adapter? There's no such adapter shown in the picture in the manual.

Well, it sounds like you will need to search on Ebay because Satellite 5200 is an oldie
Im not quite sure how old it is but its definitely an stone age notebook so to be honest I dont wonder that the parts might be discontinued

  • Tecra M5 - Is it possible to install another OS on slim select bay HDD

Is it possible to install another OS on slim select bay HDD (besides the one that is on the native HDD).
I am planning to add a slim bay HDD to my Tecra M5.

Although I can't vouch for the procedure myself, I don't see why not. If you can install two or more OSes on a single drive on separate partitions, then it should work on an additional HDD as well, in my opinion.
Another question is what OS, and what is going to manage the boot sequence. For example, Microsoft XP setup wipes out GRUB, so you need to install Linux after XP. Two MS OSes usually coexist just fine together, but to be on the safe side it doesn't hurt if the later (by release date) OS is installed second.

  • Tecra M5: Need HDD adaptor for a Slim Select Bay

I bought the Tecra M5 last week and I am very happy with it, however I also purchased the Slim SelectBay HDD Adapter (part number PA3134U-2ETC)
I already have a hard disk to go inside it, but on arrival I have found that they are not compatible and I need a caddy / adaptor plate to make the whole thing work!
Does anybody have any ideas of an after market copy?
I have spent the last 4 hours of the day on the phone to various departments within Toshiba and suppliers, none of which appear to be able to help. I am going to spend 280 on a 100GB HDD, when a 120 gig on its own is only 120, I think 160 for the elusive plate / caddy is a bit too expensive!
    Cheers in anticipation.

    Hi,
I've had trouble getting these adapters as well but have just found a supplier called laptop bits!
    http://www.laptopbits.co.uk/Database_files/Toshiba_Hard_Drive_Adaptors.htm
The one you want is the FK-TOS-8100 it's for the Tecra range but it also fits the M100, Portege 4010 and most importantly PA3134U Slim select bay. It's comes complete with the connecting pin protector and screws - but it should for 45.00 + VAT!!! The packaging on the one I bought is marked as "ITS P/N TOS8100 Brkt, Assy, Toshiba Tecra 8100 Series HDD 12mm Caddy" if you want to googlet for a cheaper clone!
    Good luck!

  • Satellite Pro M30 - cannot install sound driver

    Hi
I have a Satellite Pro M30 which usaed to work fine but I can no longer install sound card drivers on it.
I THINK it has happened since we reinstalled windows XP Pro with SP2 but can not be certain.
It is trying to install the Sigmatel AVC97 drivers and comes up with the following error.
Invalid operating system parameter or this installer does not support this operating system
Any suggestions as there seems to be only one sound driver for the SPM30 family.

Nobody here have got a problems with sound driver installation just you
So is this not strange for you???
Either you did something wrong or its your windows XP issue.
Please note that the Toshiba driver page provides also the Installation Instructions
There you can find the right installation order!
Install your OS again and follow this instruction in this doc!

Ive never had a Lan Driver or the ability to connect to a WiFi Network. I currently use a BT voyager, however that has broken. Is there anywhere I can download either Lan Driver or Wireless Lan Driver that will allow connection to my WiFi Network without the use of the external BT voyager.
Im sorry if this doesnt make sense. Ive tried various links to no avail.

    Thanks for your time. Regards.

Yep, this looks like the correct driver! A message has just appeared though:
The software you are installing for this hardware:
    Intel Pro/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection
Has not passed Windows Logo testing to verify its compatibility with Windows XP.
Continuing your installation of this software may impair or destabilize the correct operation of your system either immediately or in the future. Microsoft strongly recommends that you stop this installation now and contact the hardware vendor for software that has passed Windows Logo testing.
    Is this a normal message?
How reliable are the Toshiba downloads?

  • Satellite Pro A100 PSAA3E: What WLan driver should I use?

What wireless software should i download to make my built in wireless work.
I have downloaded almost all of them but they install and i see no wireless there :S
    Help please?

    Hi
The Satellite Pro A100 were equipped with the different WLan cards; two different Wlan cards are possible; Intel and Atheros.
All necessary WLan drivers can be found either on the Toshiba European driver page or on the Toshiba WLan portal.
    http://aps.toshiba-tro.de/wlan/
Check both drivers. One of them will work for sure!

    Hi
Your notebook Satellite L50-B05D belongs to the PSKTAA series and this series was released in Australia only.
But the similar notebook series Satellite L50-B PSKTAE was released in Europe.
Therefore the drivers from Toshiba EU driver page should be compatible.
    Visit this page:

    Here choose.

  • Satellite Pro A100-080: NVidia display driver crashing during 3D Games

    Hello,
i have some problems with the display driver since i've bought the notebook 9 month ago. I've tried to install every new driver published on the toshiba homepage but no driver is running stable on my system.
The problem is that my notebook is crashing with bluescreen during playing 3d games and my windows vista tells me its the display driver causing the crashes.
I had the previous version of the driver installed several month ago and i feel it was more stable than the current version. But unfortunately i've lost the files for that one, but i would prefer any functional driver for this notebook.

  • Satellite Pro 2100 and new hard drive

    Hi,
    I've seen on another post that L0nestar has installed a Western Digital WD2500BEVE (250GB, 5400RPM) into a Pro 2100.
The question I have is what interface is required EIDE or SATA? The original drive states its a SATA interface, but the WD2500BEVE is an EIDE interface?
Hope someone can clear this up for me.
    Cheers.

As far as I know all old notebook models have HDDs with EIDE interface. Satellite Pro 2100 is delivered with Enhanced IDE (ATA-5) HDD.

  • Combo drive won't read CDs or CD-Rs or CD-RWs

my combo drive used to read CDs, CD-Rs and CD-RWs.
now it can't read any media but DVDs.
    why is this so?
please help. i have tried all brands of the CD medias but still it won't work. the drive keeps on spitting out the CDs.
    thanks.

    Hi.
I had the same problem with a Combo drive in a PowerBook G4 12 inch model.
It ended up being repaired under warranty.
You could try several things to troubleshoot it:
    1. Zap PRAM
    2. Reinstall system software
    3. Check the drive using a utility application
    4. Check your System Prefs under CDs and DVDs.
If these or other techniques do not solve the problem, then it is most likely a hardware issue, and your drive will need fixing. The Combo Driive in my "Little AL" went bad after nearly 3 years of use, but just prior to warranty expiration.

  • Combo drive won't recognize CDs or DVDs

My original iMac won't show Cds or DVDs on the desktop. When I insert one, it says it needs to be formatted.
Probably need, a new Cd reader, right?
Can I install this myself? Cost?

Sorry for my late reply. I kept forgetting! Thank you for your responses (and for your helpful links, mrtotes). The more I read about internal DVD writers vs. external DVD writers, the more my head spun. Some user reviews expressed the opinion that the small form factor DVD burners (internal, slot loading) were the devil's peripherals and that they had a much easier time of it with external tray loading ones. Others wondered about buffer underrun (or is it overrun?) with externals.
While I was mulling this over, my service provider had already ordered and received the new combo drive for my iMac; so it looks like I'll be going with an external DVD burner (just as he recommended).
Here are a few links I found helpful:
Xlr8 Your Mac: searchable database of DVD drives with user reviews (both internal and external):
    http://forums.xlr8yourmac.com/drivedb/search.drivedb.lasso
Mac OS X Hints Forum (where I obtained the above link; also has info about brand of internal CD/DVD drives Apple uses)

Apple Discussion from June 2006 about internal and external DVD writers.
One person wrote, "Internal drives seem more reliable and are also far cheaper." But several responded with their experiences of external drives that work "flawlessly" (according to one poster, describing his Sony DRX-720UL).

I downloaded the Nero BurnRights from the link in your reply. I installed it. After I installed it and re-booted my PC, there was no Nero group to add users to. Or if there was I can't find a way of adding users to the Nero group.
If I look in the system event  log, there are lots of times where the cdrom shows and error. If I double click on the event entry, it says "The device, \Device\CdRom0, has a bad block " . If I look this up, it suggests that the drive may need to be cleaned. So I cleaned it with a CD cleaning disc. It made no differance.

  • Macbook pro 2011 disc drive won't read cds stays in for a little then pops it back out?

My macbook pro will leave the cd or dvd in for like 30 seconds than pop it back out. HELP NEEDED ASAP!

Just in case anyone finds their way back to this thread - if the above problem is happening to you (as it was to me) take a lens cleaning wipe, wrap it around a credit card and place it in the dvd/cd slot lifting the card to exert gentle downward pressure inside the computer onto the disc drive's lens. Move the card about gently to clean the lens.
This has always fixed the above problem for me, it is caused by dust on the lens.
You do it at your own risk, I'm only telling you what works for me.
