Satellite Pro A10: No sound after upgrade to Win XP Home SP2

Hi,
Just used the recovery discs on my Sat Pro A10, no problem with sound, and then upgraded XP Home to SP2, no sound.
From what I have read elsewhere, this is a problem, and there doesn't appear to be an answer. I have spent hours searching for updated drivers to no avail.
I have also contacted Toshiba support, after much huffing, and puffing they pointed me to the following driver, 5.12.01.3542, which is the same as the one I already installed, and does not work.
Surely there must be something out there that works.
Ant.

Install the newest available sound driver fro this sound chip and perform the all the Windows updates available on the Microsoft page!
Update simply the whole OS!!!

Note; possibly you have to reboot the notebook and have to connect to this site several times to get all the available patches.

    Hi buddy,
Have you already checked the Toshiba website itself?

I found a sound driver for Vista 32bit and the most Vista drivers also work on Windows 7 so its worth a try!!! :)

  • Satellite Pro A10 recovery disks fail to reinstall Win XP

My Sat Pro A10 operated happily running a dual boot system (XP and Mandriva) before failing to start one day.
I successfully used the Toshiba recovery disks and all was OK for a year or so before the same fault recurred.
Now recovery disk Nr.1does not restores the system and the laptop switches off after appearing to function normally for about 20 seconds.
Restoring the MBR and reformatting using a Win 98 recovery floppy failed to solve the problem.
Does anyone have any ideas please?

    >Now recovery disk Nr.1does not restores the system and the laptop switches off after appearing to function normally for about 20 seconds.
Sorry but this sentence confuses me. What you mean under function normally? Start your notebook, enter BIOS settings and leave it with this. Does notebook switches off after short time or what?
Maybe you should explain a little bit better what happen when you start your notebook.

  • Satellite L355D - No sound after upgrade to Win 7

I have downloaded all of the drivers from Toshiba, upgraded the BIOS, and still nothing.
I get sound from headphones, but not the speakers. Volume level shows activity, I can see the ReakTek High - Def Audio as installed and Windows says it's working proplely...and yet...nothing. Sound was working fine on Vista before the upgrade, so I know the speakers are good.
I have checked running services, and audio is running and working, as well. Every solution I have found online gives no results! Ack!
I'm going nuts trying to figure this out! Any ideas?!

Can you give me your model-part number as well? It should be on the label on the bottom as well and begin with a 'P'.
    Did you reinstall these?
    Realtek Audio Driver for Windows 7 (32/64)(v6.0.1.5904; 09-04-2009; 69.55M)
    Toshiba Speech System(v1.00.2520; 11-10-2009; 21.35M)
Toshiba Value Added Package for Windows Vista/7 (64)(v1.2.33_64; 11-09-2009; 45.79M)
On the other hand, maybe upgrading to Windows 7 was a coincidence. Sometimes the computer acts as if headphones are always connected if there's a problem with the port itself. Try playing audio while removing and reinserting the headphones repeatedly, even 10 or 20 times to see if the speakers will begin to work. Also, check that the ports not loose and that there's no foreign object inside the port.

  • Satellite Pro 4600 Missing Sound After Installing Windows 98SE

I have installed Windows 98SE onto my 4600 whose specs are:
    Model PS460A-04163
    P850 14TX 128M 20 DVD ML
I have no sound at all and all sound options are grayed out. I have downloaded a sound driver from Toshiba (Yamaha AC-XG ?) but maybe it was not the correct one. Can someone point me in the right direction for the correct sound driver. I'm also not sure what "series" this model comes under. Thanks for your help. Sep.

Thanks for that. I have tried the Canadian site however the model type I have (PS460A) doesn't exist on their search selection drop down for Part Number. Perhaps it is know as a different model in other countries (I'm in Oz)? Maybe it doesn't matter and I can just pick one of the other 4600 models - I'm unclear on this. Can anyone confirm? Thanks again.

  • Satellite L775 goes into BSOD after upgrade to Win 8.1

    hello
First, I have win7 on this device, then I purchased a mictosoft windows 8 pro for it.
When I upgraded it went fine for a few months and then it started to crash on its own.
I tried so much to rebuild the PC using Toshiba's software to no avail.
In the end I deleted all partitions and rebuilt it with win8.
As I upgrade to win8.1 it only gets to first sceen and then back again, even through there's nothing installed.
When I re-did it three times and in the end I gave up, and now just want it at least to work with win8
all Toshiba's software ask for .net3.5, whereas what I have is 4.5.
I went to several websites to find answer and it tells of a method to re-enable feature, but when I do it, it can't find the necessar files.
Now I would like to restart from scratch ... where can I download tosh's original software as a pack?
Or find a solution to this BSD problem
    thanks.

Can you please post full notebook model number? I just want to check Toshiba download page and be sure your notebook is supported for Win8 or Win8.1.
By the way: have you created recovery media for original Win7 that you got with your machine?
I don't know what could be the reason for BSOD but I presume it must be software related issue. if your notebook is not supported for Win8.1 who knows what have you installed and how it works.
Maybe the best option for you should be data back-up and clean OS installation as you have done it in the past. Start with Win7 and upgrade to Win8.
If your notebook is supported for Win8 you can make clean Win8 installation.
Post please the model number and we can check this.
As far s I know some older Win7 machines are supported for Win8 update only.

  • Memory Upgrade on Satellite Pro A10

Can anyone advise me as to the correct RAM type to upgrade my Satellite Pro A10. Its a standard 256mB at the minute and I'm thinking of slotting in an additional 512mB next to it - but am bemused by the array of memory types and nomenclatures - DDR - SODIMM etc !!!
Handy with the screw drivers but not so hot with the acronyms. Many thanks to you all out there who know the score!

    Hi
I understand you very well and sometimes Im also a little bit confused because of the whole notations in the computer world.
The Sat Pro A10 supports 200-Pin PC2700 (333Mhz) DDR SODIMM modules and you can upgrade the memory on this notebook up to 1024MB (2 x 512MB)
You could check this memory module page:
    http://www.orcalogic.co.uk/asp/prodtype.asp?prodtype=21046&ft=m&st=3

  • Satellite Pro A10 - need some info about RAM upgrade

    Dear Fourm members
In regard to the above machine : please can anyone advise :- how many memory slots does it have.
I think it is two but am not sure.
Also what max size memory module can we have in this laptop please.
If it is 2 @ 1gb per module, then we would have a total of 2gb.
Is the hard drive on this machine a standard laptop hard drive. Can I take the small 20gb one out and replace it with a larger one. eg 120 gb etc
Thank you so much for your help.
    Ian

On satellite Pro A10 two memory slots are available. Notebook can handle with 1 GB RAM and you can use two compatible PC2100 512MB (PA3164U-1M51) modules.
This old machine uses 2,5 HDD with old IDE connector. I found some info that it was delivered with 20GB, 30GB and 40GB HDDs. I think you can upgrade it with HDD up to 100 GB but just be sure it has the same HDD connector.
If you have more questions you are welcome.
For more info post exact model number please.

  • Upgrading Toshiba Satellite Pro A10 hard drive

    Hi
I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro A10. It is an old laptop, but rather than change it, I would like to install a new hard drive. I have previously put in new RAM to this laptop, but I know the Hard drive change is more complex, so I need as much help as I can get
The laptop is running well, but the 20GB HDD is obviously too small. I have an external USB hard drive for multimedia stuff etc, but the main HDD, even with just the Windows XP and other software on it is always near to the 20GB and the time has come to change
I know I can handle the 'hardware' changeover without much problem. I am intending to get a USB enclosure to allow a clone of the old drive to be copied to the new one, so that when I do install it, the only difference to the laptop will be the larger storage capacity on the internal HDD
I have read extensively about the variety of issues and I am still quite confused. The main issues for me seem to be
-Whether the BIOS affects the type of internal HDD I can install
-I am fairly sure the interface I need is ATA-100/IDE. So does this mean I cannot use SATA?
-What size of HDD can I install? Is there a limit?
-Does the current internal HDD have partitions? I am not sure? It is the same as it was when I bought it, so would Toshiba have put a partition on it containing OS or software? I don't know. I have 'recovery discs' but no Specific windows disc, as one did not come with the laptop. So considering this, how do I go about 'cloning' the old drive onto the new, and then installing it 'seamlessly'?
-Do I need specific software for a 'clone'? Otherwise, how do I do it?
-What do I need to look for in a HDD, when buying? Some sellers seem to see potential issues to do with the capacity, others do not. Im confused
So, as I say, all I want, is to get a larger internal HDD and install it without problems. Im willing to do the work involved, but only when Im confident I have all the necessary information and 'boxes ticked'. Otherwise I fear it may be a disaster.
I am not able to afford to buy a new laptop, so all help is very much appreciated
All advice welcome. Also, if you have any questions just ask
    Thanks in advance
    Jason

Can you provide the COMPLETE model number and the part number for that model?  I don't want to give you any incorrect information.  The part number would look like this.  PSA10U-3V1JG8
But based on what you have stated so far I would say you need an EIDE or ATA hard drive.  Due to bios limitations that I am 95% certain will be in place with your model you will be limited to a 120GB or smaller 9.5mm thick 2.5" ATA/EIDE hard drive.  I recommend Western Digital Scorpio BLue drives for their combination of price, performance, and reliability.
Once you post the model and part number I can verify this so you can order the correct drive for you system.
Western Digital has a free version of Acronis True Image that you can download that you can use to clone your old drive to your new drive if you purchase a WD drive.
If you don't post your COMPLETE model number it's very difficult to assist you. Please try to post in complete sentences with punctuation, capitals, and correct spelling. Toshiba does NOT provide any direct support in these forums. All support is User to User in their spare time.

  • Enabling LAN after reinstalling Windows - Satellite Pro A10

I gave my Toshiba Satellite Pro A10 Laptop a clean format with a copy of Windows XP Pro. Typically, I use a PCMCIA Wireless Internet card, but I do want to connect my laptop via a physical Ethernet cable. Unfortunately I cannot figure out how to enable the LAN on my PC (I.E. It's not even found in the Device Manager). Does anybody know how to do this? (ie. What Toshiba Utility I need to do this etc)

    Hi
Usually if the LAN driver was not installed the yellow exclamation mark should appear in the device manager.
If you cannot see any unknown devices so possibly the LAN card is faulty.
But firstly as the other guys has suggested try to install the right and compatible LAN driver from the Toshiba page.

  • SD-C2612 IDE#1 Error after wrong firmware update - Satellite Pro A10

    Hi
I've got a Toshiba Satellite Pro A10 which has been flashed with the wrong firmware (i dont know which one as i didnt do it).
I've tried flashing it with the correct firmware (1315) but get the message for the Primary Master and Slave as 'Not ATAPI Device' and 'Drive Not Connected'.
NB: On boot up, even with the DVD ROM removed, I still get the IDE#1 Error.
Would updating the bios to the latest version help or are there any options open to me to resolve this issue other than resorting to the pin 47 & 45 connection? Would this even solve it?
Thanks in advance for any advice you can give.
    Best regards
    Angus

    > I've got a Toshiba Satellite Pro A10 which has been flashed with the wrong firmware (i dont know which one as i didnt do it).
Lol :D I dont wonder that you get the IDE#1 Error message.
As you said by yourself you have flashed the drive with the wrong firmware. This has damaged the drives master/slave/c-sel settings and therefore the BIOS doesnt recognize the CD/DVD drive. But I ask myself why someone flashes the drive with a wrong firmware ?:| It's always known that a wrong firmware can damage the CD/DVD drive... and mostly it's not necessary to update the firmware.
    > Would updating the bios to the latest version help
The BISO update will not help you because youve got already right BIOS and its NOT a BIOS issue but the wrong and not compatible firmware is stored.
    > or are there any options open to me to resolve this issue other than resorting to the pin 47 & 45 connection? Would this even solve it?
I dont know if this helps but I know that this is not advisable because this can damage the CD/DVD drives hardware
I would recommend contacting the ASP in your country maybe the guys could bring the CD/DVD drive back to life. Lets hope

  • No sound after upgrading to Vista on Satellite U-series - solution

Hi I had the problem that I didnt have any sound after upgrading to Vista Business.
After several attemps to get a solution from Toshiba I found it out myself.
Here are the steps to solve this problem:
    1. update Bios to 3.5 version
    2. Do a clean Vista installation
    3. Install the Value added Package
    4. Install the audio driver
    5. Install the fix "mute off"
    Should work now.

Hey wow, thats really nice. Already bookmarked it. :)

  • Can I install a DVDRW drive on my Satellite Pro A10?

I would like to upgrade the DVD ROM/CDRW drive (SD-R2412) on my Satellite Pro A10 to a DVDRW drive so I can burn DVDs. I have purchased a Toshiba DVDRW drive (TS-L632), as it is exactly the same size and shape as the existing DVD ROM drive, the same voltage (5v) and same connector.
However, after installing and turning on the laptop, it is not recognised as being installed ie, there is no sign of it at all on the computer. Is this because the laptop is totally incapable of supporting a DVDRW drive, or have I bought an incompatible device? If so, is there a compatible DVDRW drive?
    Thanks in advance,
    fred.
PS the exact model of Satellite Pro is PSA15E-0115Q-EN

    Hello
All ODDs cannot be used on every notebook model. It depends on pin assignment. Toshiba offers the list of all compatible drives in the Users Manuals document.
Ive checked Users Manuals for your notebook model and there you can find list of all compatible optical disc drives you can use with your notebook model. Check pages 4-8.
    Choose the best one.
If you don't have it visit Toshiba download page. There you can find it.

  • Media test failure check cable - Satellite Pro A10

    Hi there
i would be most gratefull if some one can help me.
I have just installed a western digital 120 gig hardrive on a toshiba Satellite Pro A10 laptop on XP. on first boot up it comes up with this media test failure check cable.
It takes a while to boot up into windows then the windows sound comes up around 10 seconds after the desktop loads up. any help on this?
Also the DVD rom drive does not read DVD's only CD's
    DVD model is SD-R2412
And is there any way tke make windows load faster and should it have the sound max driver installed or the AC Realtek.
Can someone let me know ASAP thanks syclonus.

If you order the boot priority and boot first from HDD you will not get this error anymore.
So go the BIOS with ESC key and change it.
Have you tested different DVDs in the drive? I think it could be a hardware problem. I had for a long time a similar problem that my drive does write DVDs only CDs.
There are a lot of tips how to make Windows faster. I can give you same examples: Defragment your HDD, check how many programs are in the startup folder and msconfig. Disable or remove all programs that you dont need.
Furthermore you can disable all services that you dont need (run > services.msc). Be careful what you do but I always disable automatic updates, security center, Windows Time, Help and Support, Themes and so far.
Clean up the registry. For this I use always the tool CCleaner. A very good tool and its freeware.
And if you make Windows faster the start up sound comes maybe at the right time.
All drivers you can get on the Toshiba website. Its not necessary to install other or more sound drivers.

Something similar happened to me. I was not able to install the OS from the Recovery CD.
