Satellite Pro A10 won't boot up - Where to get the disks

I have a Satellite Pro A10 which currently won't boot up Windows (XP) as it says
The following file is corrupt or damaged:
C:\Windows\System32\Config\System
The Tools & Utilities CD-Rom which came with my laptop has unfortunately been scratched and won't boot.
I have the two System Recovery Disks, which are fine.
My questions:
1. Is it possible to purchase a replacement Tools & Utilities CD-Rom?
2. If so, where from?
3. Is there a way of restoring my laptop without having to completely reinstall everything and lose all my files?
Thanks

Regarding the point;
a) Usually it should be possible to order the Tools & Utilities CD-Rom but I ask why?
b) You can purchase the CD from the ASP in your country
c) The older recovery CD supports an expert mode. You can use this mode to choose the partition where the OS should be installed. In such case only this partition will be formatted.
But listen dude. You dont need to order the Tools & Utilities CD because on this CD you will find only the Toshiba drivers which can be downloaded from the Toshiba page too.

  • Satellite Pro A10 won't boot (HDD seems to be missing)

Hello, I hope someone can give me some advice on this problem: I have a 2 year old Satellite Pro A10. Recently it won't boot at all and I notice that if i look at the directories in the C: drive using the command prompt it says 'file not found'. Can't start Windows at all, not even in Safe Mode.
Using the recovery disks doesn't help either I get messages like No such fixed Disk and 'Extraction Failed'.
    does this mean I have:
    1 A damaged hard disk
    2. Faulty connections to the HDD? - if so how do I rectify this?
the system didn't crash before this happened, it failed to load up when I started it.
    Would appreciate any help.
    Thanks,
    Scl

Jeffery and Ivan25 are correct in HDD malfunction. Try and remove and reattach the HDD and see if BIOS sees the HDD. If not you are going to need to order a replacement HDD. If BIOS does not even see the HDD then you wont even be able to install any Operating system, because there is logically nowhere to store the data being copied.
Take it to an Authorized service provider near you to have it checked out. Could also very well be the HDD Controller on the Motherboard has went bad and can not detect any HDD connected to the motherboard even if it is new and unused.

  • Re: Satellite Pro A200 - Won't boot with 4GB RAM

    Hi,
I've installed 2 x 2GB, but it seems it doesn't work. The funny thing is that when running just one memory strip (so 2GB) it works, when running both it doesn't work and it freezes. These are the Samsung 2GB 2Rx8 PC2 - 6400s - 666 - 12 - E3
Ive' installed the latest BIOS update (64bit v2.60) for the Satellite Pro A200 and I am running Windows 7 64bit

    Hi caribman
What Satellite Pro A200 you have exactly?
I ask this because some A200 models were equipped with Intel 943GML chipset and these models support 2GB only!!!

  • Satellite Pro A60 won't boot: config.sys missing or corrupt

    Hi,
I turned my computer off on Friday, went back to his Monday - and it won't boot up. I'm told that the config.sys file is either missing or corrupt.
I've tried all the usual methods - safe mode, last known good setting, OS etc but none of it works. The computer doesn't recognise that the recovery CD is in the drive, either.
As I don't have an original installation CD - the computer came with the software already installed - I can't try that either.
I don't particularly want to recover the whole system but if I have to, I can live with it. Any suggestions would be gratefully received.
    Many thanks.
    Ronmac

I checked out the recovery disk and it attempts to work in another non-Toshiba computer and it attempts to loadhe local computer store (PC World) tested my laptop and told me the DVD/CD drive was faulty (they'd only replaced that a few months ago) and I need a new one. However, that wouldn't have anything to do with the original non-bootup error, as far as I know (config.sys missing or corrupt).
    The drive recognises CD perfectly.

  • Satellite Pro A10 fails to boot - IDE #0 ERROR

On starting I get the Toshiba start-up screen and there is a regular clicking from the HDD. After 20-30 seconds I get:
    IDE #0 ERROR
then a pause, followed by the following codes from the boot agent (Intel FE v4.1.09)
PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
    PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel Boot Agent
    Insert system disc in drive.
I have a nasty feeling that the HDD has died. I can replace it if required, but is there any way of extracting the files from it before I go this far?

Thats a clear symptom of a HDD fault.
The +IDE#0+ error means that the BIOS didnt recognize the HDD (due to a hardware fault probably) and cannot boot from the HDD.
Then it swishes to the further boot possibility > LAN
The +PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable+ error appears because the notebook cannot boot from LAN.
I think you should simply replace the HDD and then you should reinstall the OS again.
    This helps for sure.

  • Startup problem - iMac won't boot up, I keep getting the flashing ? mark

    Hi,
I was wondering if anyone can help me. I have just restarted my iMac as it was running really really slow. Since doing this it won't now boot up. Eventually I get the flashing question mark and folder icon. I have tried restarting holding down Alt and it brings me to a menu but no hard drive showing to point it in the right directions. Resetting the PRAM doesn't seem to do anything either.
    Does anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks, ArchieA

Hi, Archie. Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Disk Utility is found in the Utilities menu in OS X 10.4.
Here are links to a couple of articles on recovering from the flashing question mark:

  • Satellite Pro A10 - IDE 1# Error on boot up

HI there, i have a Satellite pro A10 and all has been working fine for the last few years until now.
A few days ago i started getting an error reading cd's / dvd's invalid disc format yet the discs work fine on every other pc.
Today i am getting IDE#1 error on boot up... the laptop is still standard from when i got it off the shelf. thinking the drive may have died due to wear and tear i replaced the drive with a working drive and i still get the same error. I have removed the ODD altogether and its still coming up.
I have also updated the bios from usb floppy which was successful. and the best part of all this. the dvd rom that came with the laptop works fine in my other tosh a10!!!!!!
Anyone got any ideas. i don really want to replace the main board if i can help it. this is the only issue with the laptop.
    thx in advance people.

    Hello James
IDE 1# Error is typical when ODD is not accepted by the system. The reason for that can be defective drive or usage of non-compatible drives. The fact is that every drive can not be used with every notebook model because of different pin assignment.
In your case it is really strange that drive work on other A10 but not on this one. Because of that I presume there is maybe some problem with connectors. I am afraid there is not much to do. You can try to check them and see if they are clean and not oxidized.
Sorry but we can only speculate what the problem can be but, like you know, only intensive test can give you more answers.
Good luck and pleas let us know if you will find out what the problem is.

  • Satellite Pro A10 - no response - HDD input#0 Error

Pro A10 Out of warranty, student daughter reports laptop no longer working, previously hanging and finally no response from any other LEDs when DC input from charger is connected.
Cleaned out fan/heat sink, lots of fluff etc removed. No obvious signs of why the M'Board dead though. Confirmed with meter that DC present from charger into M'Board. Ordered replacement M'Board, FHZSY1, from ebay and fitted, taking all static precautions, though can't confirm they were done by the seller.
New Board now recognizes DC input and recharged the battery OK. Tried to power on the laptop but dreaded INPUT#0 Error. Concluded that HDD had also been damaged. New one (Toshiba Boxed) arrived 2 days later but gave same error when fitted. BIOS will not recognize HDD at all. Tried all posts about checking connections and definitely no jumpers fitted. Laptop will continue to boot from a System CD as far as it can so believe the new M'Board is OK
Are the HDD's from the Satellite Pro A10 different to those on the earlier Satellite A10?
Any other ideas on this INPUT #0 Error?
    Thanks

Thanks for your post on this. You have probably spotted when I said input#0 error I meant to say IDE#0 error.
The replacement motherboard was a used one, rather than new. When I powered the laptop up firstly with this replacement board I needed to set the time from its default of 1 jan 2000, suggesting that though it was still connected to its cmos battery it had lost its charge. Is it possible that this may have affected the bios as well? The POST shows it running bios version 1.2 where other sites indicate a 1.3 version to be available.
I'm waiting for a usb 2.5" HDD disk case to arrive so I can check out the 'old' and new drives in another desktop to eliminate that doubt.
    Thanks

  • IDE #1 Error on Satellite Pro A10

Hi, My Satellite Pro A10 laptop displays IDE #1 Error everytime I attempt to put it on. That message is all I get, although it is displayed for a short time- the laptop always comes back to that message, it attempts to load the screen just go's blanbk and then that message comes up everytime! I was wondering if anyone could explain what this means and how do i fix it?
    thank you
    david

    Hi
This is very strange that this error message appears and you have not changed the drive.
Did you try to 'flash' the drive or to install any firmware or update the BIOS?
I ask it because I can't believe that this error message appears without any reasons.
Like Jack and Silas say, this error appears because of no compatibility of the drive.
The unit was delivered with compatible drive and should works. I assume the BIOS cannot recognize the drive at this time because it's dead.
In my opinion you have to replace the drive. (try to check it it's possibel to install/to boot Toshiba recovery CD)
Ps: Just for info: I have read in the net that sometimes it's possible to flash the drive with any illegal software to change the master/slave settings but this is not advisable. But I have never tried it.
I have also read in the forum that if this error message appears every time and it's not possible to use the drive and the BIOS cannot recognize this device so the connection of pin 45 and 47 could solve this issue sometimes.

  • How to install WLAN adapter in Satellite Pro A10

I am trying to set up a wireless connection with my Satellite Pro A10. I thought it was wireless enabled, but when I toggle the wireless switch, no light comes on and there is no wireless card listed under Network adaptors (so I guess not).
How easy is it to install a wireless adaptor (i.e. can I do it myself or do I need to have it done by a professional)? Can anyone recommend which card I should by (or any I should avoid)?
    Thanks.

    Hi
According the notebook specification your Satellite Pro A10 is WLAN ready. In notebook specification there are listed two compatible WLAN cards:
    PA3212U-4MPC (Agere 802.11b) and PA3273U-2MPC (802.11a/b).
I really do not know if you can use some faster WLAN cards with standard g. Maybe you will be lucky and someone will post here WLAN card upgrade results.
I am not 100% sure where the WLAN slot is placed but check please under the cover placed nears the battery.

  • Satellite Pro A10 - Does SP2 or 3 slow down the XP performance?

    Hi,
I have a Satellite Pro A10 PSA15E which over the years had become very slow.
Recently I upgraded it's RAM from 256 to the maximum 1gb to try to speed things up but it did not help.
Next I reformatted the hard disc and reloaded the system using the Toshiba recovery disks. This worked fine and the system performance was excellent. However, with on-line security in mind, I loaded Windows SP2 ( with a view to subsequently go to SP3) and this has taken the system back to where I started - very, very slow, in fact pretty well unusable.
Does anyone know if Toshiba support SP2 and SP3 on this model of laptop?
If so how do you install them without killing performance?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi!
I think SP2 or SP3 is supported on this Toshiba notebook because both Service Packs are contains really important security updates and I think this is not the problem.
If you install SP2 or SP3 you will also get the Security center and better Windows firewall. Maybe you should disable both services because the slow down the system performance (I always disable both services).
Just go to start => run => services.msc and disable both services and set the start up type to disabled.
    Bye

  • Toshiba Satellite Pro A10,Windows XP Service Pack 2

    Hi everyone,
    I have a "Toshiba Satellite Pro A10: P4-M 2.2 GHz/XP Pro/15" TFT/40 GB/768 MB".
I installed the Windows XP Service pack-2 in my notebook.
After updating to winXP SP2, the only way to start up my comp after putting it in "standby mode" or "hibernation mode" is to witch power off and then start up.
I reinstalled "Toshiba Power Saver" but nothing came of it.
What can i do about it?
    Kind regards,
    Krasteff

    Hi Krasteff
Your problem is difficult. If I had it, I'd try to make the status of the OS as clean as possible.
Try killing as many of the funny SYSTRAY applications as possible - means the small icons in the SYSTRAY. Some of them will not be killed that easily. Don't spend hours trying...
Then also try killing any, as You mentioned, antivirus or other services that are not necessary for the system. Check also that You do not have any USB / PC Card devices attached to the system.
    Then try again.
Works better? Then "walk backwards" means try attaching the devices / starting the applications one by one and retry Hibernating. Keep track of what You reconnect/restart so You know what You did last when the system fails to start up again. There You have the cause of the problem and then You also know where to look for the solution.
    Hope it helps!
    BR Tom

  • Satellite Pro A10 - How to restore Power Management

I'm running a little-used Satellite Pro A10 as a substitute for a sick desktop, and in trying to improve the performance after installing some essential software.
I seem to have accidentally disabled the Toshiba Power Management function - when I click on the icon on the Toshiba Console there is no response.
The Power Management seems to be retaining its previous setting, though, but I'm left with no control otherwise.
Any advice on how to restore this function on the Console?

I am not familar with the Pro A10 as the Laptop I have is A100-033 :
1>> START >> CONTROL PANEL>> SELECT POWER OPTIONS ICON
2>> CLICK ON THE WHERE IT SAYS >> CHANGE WHEN THE COMPUTER SLEEPS
3>> CLICK ON THE WHERE IT SAYS >> CHANGE ADVANCED POWER SETTINGS
4>> BY CLICKING >> RESTORE PLAN DEFAULTS << This may solve your problem....

  • Need to know the display driver model for Satellite Pro A10

Hi! I'm trying to find the exact display chipset model on my satellite pro A10. The driver on the toshiba website is not updated, and I can't use the correct resolution (19" Wide or 1440x900) on my external display.
At one time before, I've could update the driver correctly, just searching by "Intel 82852/82855 GM/GME" generic driver and "extreme graphics" software at Intel website...
But now, on Intel website they ask for the accurate model, meaning, if it's 82852 or 82855, and also if it's GM or GME...
Can u plz give the specific model?
My computer is a celeron 2500MHz, with 1Gb RAM, and 30Gb HDD (standart)
    Thanx in advance...

    Hi,
i suppose no one can answer my question... Does anyone know where can i get this information?...

  • SD-C2612 IDE#1 Error after wrong firmware update - Satellite Pro A10

    Hi
I've got a Toshiba Satellite Pro A10 which has been flashed with the wrong firmware (i dont know which one as i didnt do it).
I've tried flashing it with the correct firmware (1315) but get the message for the Primary Master and Slave as 'Not ATAPI Device' and 'Drive Not Connected'.
NB: On boot up, even with the DVD ROM removed, I still get the IDE#1 Error.
Would updating the bios to the latest version help or are there any options open to me to resolve this issue other than resorting to the pin 47 & 45 connection? Would this even solve it?
Thanks in advance for any advice you can give.
    Best regards
    Angus

    > I've got a Toshiba Satellite Pro A10 which has been flashed with the wrong firmware (i dont know which one as i didnt do it).
Lol :D I dont wonder that you get the IDE#1 Error message.
As you said by yourself you have flashed the drive with the wrong firmware. This has damaged the drives master/slave/c-sel settings and therefore the BIOS doesnt recognize the CD/DVD drive. But I ask myself why someone flashes the drive with a wrong firmware ?:| It's always known that a wrong firmware can damage the CD/DVD drive... and mostly it's not necessary to update the firmware.
    > Would updating the bios to the latest version help
The BISO update will not help you because youve got already right BIOS and its NOT a BIOS issue but the wrong and not compatible firmware is stored.
    > or are there any options open to me to resolve this issue other than resorting to the pin 47 & 45 connection? Would this even solve it?
I dont know if this helps but I know that this is not advisable because this can damage the CD/DVD drives hardware
I would recommend contacting the ASP in your country maybe the guys could bring the CD/DVD drive back to life. Lets hope
