Satellite Pro A100-080 does not boot - stays dark after 3 beeps

Hello,
after one week off, the Toshiba Satellite Pro A100-080 (PSAASE-00G004GR, 4 GB RAM) of my children does not boot anymore.
When powering on the system, it *beeps 3 times* (one longer, two short beeps), then the HDisk light shortly blinks "blue" and then nothing more happens. A/C, Power and Batterie LEDs are "blue", which seem to be the OK state.
No other useful help, as the display stays dark.
We had upgraded to 4 GB MEM (Kingston) one year ago and I already tried the former used 1 GB (included when purchased) or the 2 x 1 GB replacement from December 2007, but same status with those modules. So it is not
a defect memory.
I hope it is not the mainboard, probably only the included NVIDIA GeForce Go 7600 graphics adapter?
Does anyone have an idea, what might be the issue?
Thx for a short help.

Hello
Generally speaking this kind of beep codes are hardware related or with other words hardware is malfunctioning. So I think its a hardware problem and an ASP should check your notebook to identify the reason of this.
On the Toshiba website you will find a list of ASPs:

  • Satellite Pro L300-1FN does not boot - hangs at BIOS splash screen

My Satellite pro L300-1FN is refusing to boot up. When switched on the laptop displays the toshiba/insyde H20 BIOS splash screen and the "Press F2 go to Setup Utility, F12 go to boot menu" message and flashes the hard disk access light but does not attempt to continue loading. I have left the bios at the splash screen but it does nothing for many hours on AC or runs the battery flat while on battery.
Is there a way of re-setting the BIOS on this unit? If it were a desktop unit I would remove the CMOS battery to force a BIOS reset but this is impossible on a laptop. The hard disk is fine as I have connected it to another system to remove valuable data.

*I managed to fix this issue* ,,, thanks to some other dudes on other forums
What i did was Format a Floppy disk as MS-DOS boot using a Windows XP PC and USB floppy drive, then downloaded the latest BIOS for my L300-1BW laptop model, copied *.fd bios image to the floppy disk and renamed it to BIOS.fd.
Connect FDD to the toshiba laptop with out AC connected. Held Power button for 12 seconds, connected AC adapter, then held Fn+F, powered on , and kept the Fn+F keys held down for about 10 seconds into the reading of the floppy drive just to be sure, then let go. The screen was black throughout the process. I left this for a few minutes, or until it had finished, the laptop rebooted itself, and voila, it now goes passed the TOSHIBA POST logo screen :)
I hope this helps others with Toshiba Laptops. should work for any Toshiba laptop.

  • Satellite Pro L300 - Windows does not boot up

Silly person that i am, and being computer illiterate i turned off my laptop while it was downloading updates.
Now, when i turn it on it gives a black screen with 2 options for startup.
1 for start in repair/restore mode,
1 for start windows normally but neither work.
I made the recovery discs after i purchased the laptop but i am wary about using it.
Though i dont do a lot of work that needs backing up, i only surf the net and do emails.
Are there any other safer options for starting up?

    Hi
If you have no important data on the HDD then you can use the Recovery disk in order to reinstall the OS again and to set up the unit back to factory settings.
The recovery disk will format the HDD and will erase everything from the HDD.
The installation procedure does not take a long time you need to boot from Recovery disk and have to follow the instruction on the screen. Thats all!

  • Satellite Pro A100-080: NVidia display driver crashing during 3D Games

    Hello,
i have some problems with the display driver since i've bought the notebook 9 month ago. I've tried to install every new driver published on the toshiba homepage but no driver is running stable on my system.
The problem is that my notebook is crashing with bluescreen during playing 3d games and my windows vista tells me its the display driver causing the crashes.
I had the previous version of the driver installed several month ago and i feel it was more stable than the current version. But unfortunately i've lost the files for that one, but i would prefer any functional driver for this notebook.

  • Toshiba satellite c55t-A5123 . Does not boot any devices.

I have accidentally formated the pre-installed OS in my laptop. Now I try to reinstall it again with win8 installation disk but it does not boot the DVD . i tried to make a bootable USB too but same thing happened. Anyone here can help my problem?
Is there any way to solve it.. Please I really need your help . Thanks in advance :-)

Best to restore the hard disk to its original out-of-the-box contents using Toshiba recovery media. All the drivers and utilities are properly installed.
If you failed to create recovery media, obtain it from Toshiba. Scroll down to Get Recovery Media here
See the instructions in the section Restoring from recovery media, which begins on p. 56 of the User's Guide.

  • Satellite A105 WIN XP does not boot or load...

Ok, so my wife's laptop has a boot issue. Model is A105-S4284
The Toshiba/Phoenix screen loads, but does not boot/load XP. It gives a black screen, then sits for a few secs and restarts. it will continue this loop indefinetely as far as I can tell. When this happened, she complained that it has been taking longer for it to boot into XP recently. (Wish she had told me before)
I can get to BIOS system utilites, Boot menu, and can access F8/Win Advanced options boot choices. I have tried the following:
    Safe Mode
    Safe Mode w/command prompt
    Last known GCFG
    Disable Auto restart on failure
I have also done a battery pull and unseated the memory, even swapping left/right, and attempted boot from just one mempry module, all with no change.
Apparently her DVD/optical drive is toast (apparently has been) so I can't do a recovery disc, but I did make a recovery USB drive. No dice there either.
What have I not done? Since I can access the adv. opt. menu it seems winXP is still there. most likely she shut it down while XP was installing something, and now there is some type of error in the registry or somewhere, but I can't seem to recall or remember what my next steps would be to gain access to I can try to clean it up and recover.
I would do a complete wipe and start from scratch, but her entire work portfolio is on the HDD and she (foolishly) has not backed it up, at least not recently. Is my best bet to get an outboard drive enclosure and set the jumpers to slave, so I can attempt to recover the data that way?
I'm a bit stubborn, and know my way around a computer, and I refuse to give up and drop it off at the geek squad.
    Please help!

    Satellite A105-S4284
her entire work portfolio is on the HDD
First things first. You should rescue the files.
Remove the hard drive and place it in an enclosure accessible from a desktop via USB.

  • Deleted files now Macbook pro 13 2011 does not boot up

Tried following some instructions to delete search.genieo an safari and deleted some files. Now my Macbook pro 13 does not boot up at all. All I see is the screen with small apple and the running circle below indicating it is thinking. any clues anyone. Thxs

Just for the record, in case someone with the same problem stumbles across this topic later, I'll repeat the advice I gave you on another topic:
You did not follow the instructions precisely, and now you have suffered the fate that the giant red text on that page warned you about.
At this point, you will need to try the recovery instructions posted at the end of that page.

  • MacBook Pro late 2013 does not show login window after waking from sleep

MacBook Pro late 2013 does not always prompt for login, but opens directly to desktop, even though security settings are setup to prompt for password after 5 minutes. Up to now, this only has happened on battery, machine goes to sleep or lid is closed, 10 minutes pass, lid is opened and desktop is shown instead of lock screen. Console shows, that the machine was actually sleeping (10 min no log entries) and also does not show any error in regards to login window.
This behaviour occurs randomly and I could not track down any root cause/behaviour, yet. Sometimes everything behaves as it should.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

Count me in, I have the same issue, and from what I read here, it looks like a Yosemite/SSD related issue ?
I'm not 100% sure if it started when I put a SSD in my old iMac 2009 (as a fusion drive) or if that's after that when I upgraded to Yosemite...
I did disable auto poweroff like suggested in another thread : Mac freeze during the night sleep.
    sudo pmset -a autopoweroff 0
    We'll see if it helps.
It happens toughly a couple of times a week.

  • Satellite Pro 6100 system will not boot

    Hi people,
I have the following problem. I used my laptop long enough for thet battery to run out and the device to go into hibernation. Having charges the battery againm, I tried the system and now it wont start.
The leds light up fine, and stay lighted up. Just nothing happens, the FN key works. After a minute the fan will start spinning up and spins down again. But nothing else.
After some time, pressing the power button for a few seconds seems to start the device, but it shuts down imediately after about 30 seconds. Even when doing trying to do a memtest.
does anyboy have any idea what could cause this. I tried removing the harddrive and booting it doesnt seem to affect anything, as does moving the RAM module to the other slot. Also removing the CD/RW drive doesnt affect it. Removing the battery and booting gives the same result also.

My appologies for the lack of information,
When I try to start the system (hooked up to AC, with or without battery installed), the first 3 leds and the 5th led light up. Nothing else happens. The screen stays black, the fans are not spining as far as I can hear. This behaviour is consistent als in the following cases:
    hooked to AC + battery
hooked to AC + without battery
    only battery
Though letting it stand for a while with nothing happening, and then pressing the power button for a second or two, the bootsplash comes up. And the system starts booting, but whatever I do it always shuts down after roughly half a minute. Not shutting down as in shuttingdown windows but in the sence cutting power at once. No matter what I do, letting it idle in the bootmanager, running memtest, or booting the os. It will always shutdown after roughly half a minute.
I tried removing all non-essential hardware, like the cd-rom driver extra ram etc. This does not make a diffrence.
My own best suggestion as to where the problem lies is at the powerboard, the powerboard of this laptop was replaced within warrenty by toshiba 2 or so years ago

  • Satellite M50D-A-10W does not boot after battery is fully empty

    I have a Toshiba Satellite Notebook latop Satellite M50d-A-10W AMD A, 15.6.
I have problem when the battery is fully discharged I need use the needle to peform hard reset using switch behind the laptop.... then I can get into boot mode with f2
How can I solve the problem?
    thank you

I guess you are talking about the force shutdown procedure as described in this document:
    http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB3C03JR0000R01.htm
Such issue may appear in case the PC is freezing, not booting or has a power failure.
I think the notebook goes off in case the battery would be fully empty. In such case the system does not shut down properly.
As default state, the system does not shut down the notebook but usually the unit performs an hybrid shutdown. This procedure allows the notebook to boot much faster but this might affect system boot in case something would go wrong while shut down procedure.
You can disable this hybrid mode and in my opinion this is also recommended.
    Details:
    http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB2B03EY0002R01.htm
However, to avoid such issues its very important to perform the shut down procedure properly.

  • Satellite Pro C660-1NQ does not detect WLan network

    Hi Guys,
We have a Toshiba Satellite Pro C660-1NQ here which does not detect the wireless network at all,
I have checked device manager and the wireless card does not show in here.
I tried scanning for new hardware, but nothing was found. I tried turning the wireless off/on with the function and F8 keys but still not showing in device manager or finding any new hardware.....
Any ideas as to what i can try next?
    Cheers,
    Ash

    Hi
It seems that the notebook would support the Atheros 802.11agn Wlan card.
Usually the Atheros Wlan card should be listed in device manager under in the menu Network Adapters.
If its not listed then I recommend installing the WLAN driver which can be downloaded here:
    http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/wlan/?page=downloads
Choose the Atheros Wireless LAN Adapter Windows 7 (32/64) 9.2.0.419.0 or newer
Hope this helps to detect the Wlan chip!!!

  • Satellite Pro T130-14M - Will not boot up

I have the above laptop which does not include a DVD drive. Had recently updated Itunes and synch an Iphone. When I next switched on the machine started to boot as normal but ended up with a blank black screen on which the mouse pointer was visible and moving when in use. Not able to boot in safe mode to roll back to prior to update.
If boot up but press f11 get the win 7 background screen but no icons or access to any programmes. Thankfully have data backed up (other than recent itunes additions)
Can anyone recommend what to do next - have had laptop since April 2010.
    Help

    Hey,
To be honest I dont think there is much what you can do if you cant boot in safe mode and even system rollback doesnt work too
So I think you have to reinstall Windows. That means you can use the HDDrecovery feature from Toshiba to do this. It will only delete the first partition but its good that you have done a backup because it should always be done.
Regarding the HDD recovery you should follow the instructions here:
    http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD9102IR0000R01.htm

  • Satellite Pro A300-1DZ does not find HDD after BIOS update

    Hi everyone,
I have recently purchased a secondhand Satellite Pro A300 1DZ.
Put a fresh copy of Windows xp home on it.
I then went on to install all the drivers needed from Toshiba's own site and at the end of this I thought it may be a good idea to update the bios????
OH DEAR what a big mistake.
Now the netbook will NOT start windows.
So I thought thats ok I will just start from the begginning and reinstall windows again, but it is telling me it cannot find a hard disk on my netbook?
    aaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I am going crazy,
Could someone please tell me how to fix this? Thank you x

    Hi
I think the option SATA mode has been set to AHCI and therefore the Windows XP cannot find the HDD.
This is because of the SATA controller.
You can set the SATA mode from AHCI mode to compatible mode and this will allows you to install the Win XP on the notebook without the usage of SATA drivers.
So, youve got two options if you want to install Win XP:
AHCI mode -> but you have to include SATA drivers
Compatible mode -> Win XP installation possible without the SATA drivers

  • Satellite Pro 440 CDT does not power up

Hi, I have an old 440 CDT which does not power up. Anyone any ideas???
AC is connected, power light is on, green. Battery is dead (as in buried). When I press the power button, the following happens:
    - On light is green
    - Num lock key (the one with the "A" on it) flashes 3 times: long-short-short
    - HDD light flashes on 1 time, green
    - CD light flashes on 1 time, orange
    - Popping sound in the speakers
Then it turns off again, with the power light burning green constantly.
Nothing happens on the display (tried FN F5). I also switched CD/floppy, attached both, with or without battery, no help.
    I am puzzled, please help!
    thx, Eric

    Hello Eric
Like you know, on this way it is not possible to give any precise diagnostic, just speculate what the problem can be. In my opinion it is definitely because of defective electronic on board but what exactly it is not easy to say. Try to contact someone who has experience with notebook repair procedure.

  • CQ62-209wm turns on but does not boot stays on black screen

This same question was asked in 2013 but was never marked answer found. The suggested answer was to run the diagnostic tests on the hard drive and memory. My laptop has the exact same problem and I did perform the tests. Everything passed with no problem. I finally decided that the video had gone out hence I had a bad motherboard. Well I ordered a new motherboard, new battery, and new memory. I pulled the heat sinks cleaned the CPU, cleaned the fan and cooling fins, then replaced everything. Guess what folks it is still doing the same thing as before with all these new parts. No beep codes are generated, no sounds etc. What does happen is the Caps Lock light flashes about every 3 seconds and the WiFi symbol light stays orange. It never blinks. I found the light codes page accidently but there is no corosponding pattern between the light codes and the blinking cap lock key. It will just sit there and blink as long as you will let it or until the battery goes dead which ever comes first. This same problem has been around for years as I have found a multitude of posts concerning it and it is not just this one model. Forums everywhere have this posted on them.
So how about it HP engineers. Are there any of you willing to take on this problem and tell us how to fix it once and for all? I am tired of having a computer that only works when it wants too. I want both of my CQ62-209wm laptops to work. I am able to get the laptops to boot completely about 35% of the time. In order to make them work I remove the battery, plug in the power supply, replace the battery and then try to start it. Sometimes it works majority of the time it doesn't. I am beginning to suspect a possible problem in the power circuit because this is the first laptop I have ever used or owned that would not power on if there was no battery installed.
