Satellite Pro A120 - can I update to Windows 7?

I have a Satellite Pro A120 (model PSAC1A-045005 - purchased in Australia) which I wish to update to Windows 7 from XP
The Toshiba Australia site says it is not compatible with Windows 7 and the upgrade from Windows XP to Windows 7 is unsupported.
Looking on the web I've found a couple of sites that say they have drivers for the computer. One address is as follows:
http://driver-toshiba.blogspot.com/2009/12/toshiba-satellite-pro-a120-psac1-for.html
Presumably these drivers would be unofficial. Would they be reliable or would it cause problems?
I use a wireless router so would be particularly concerned if it caused problems with this

Hi
I installed Win 7 on my old notebook and was able to find some necessary drivers.
The notebook (from another manufacturer) is not officially Win 7 supported but it runs pretty well
I spent some time for driver searching but after that was able to get most of the necessary drivers.
I think you should test it on your A120 thats the one and real solution for you

  • Satellite Pro L10: Can't update BIOS

Hello, I've tried (three times) to update my BIOS using the Windows version, however each time I try, it fails and sends a report to Microsoft - does anyone know what the problem is and how to fix it?

    Hi
Firstly you have to know that if you use wrong BIOS or wrong BIOS update procedure you can damage the notebook (motherboard)
I have checked the Toshiba page and it seems that at this time the news BIOS release is from 25/04/06 - version 2.6
Please check this BIOS FAQ document:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/faq.jsp?z=234&service=EU&from=faq_selection&CFID=B IOS&FID=TRO0000000b07
There you will find how to update the BIOS.
According to this document you have to use the traditional BIOS update (BIOS Upgrade Procedure 2).

  • Satellite Pro A120 - Cannot get the PCMCIA card to work

OK i have a problem with my Satellite Pro A120's (xp service pack 2) cardbus.
I use the cardbus slot to add firewire conections via a IEEE 1394 cardbus card and have been doing this a long time. The other night my comp went into hibernate with the card still in the slot and still in use and when i tried to use it the next day the card was not working at all.
So i thought the had died on me and brought another one, this one to be exact [http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16839314003] .
When i plug the new card into the slot windows starts the installation add new hardware thing but does not find the driver, there is none on the provided CD and it does not conect to windows update to find one ethier. So the new card does not work and does not get installed, it just shows up with ! next to pci device.
I have looked everywhere on the internet to find the driver, read the manual etc.I even did a fresh install of windows so it might find the drivers but nope.
The only thing i can think of is the slot does not except 32 bit cardbus but in my manual it says this:
"The computer is equipted with a pc card slot that can accomedate a type II card. Any pc card that meets industry standards can be installed. The slot supports 16 bit pc cards, including pc cards 16 multifunction card and cardbus pc cards. Cardbus supports a new standard of 32 bit pc cards."
    Any help please
    Thanks

Thanks for your help but i ahve already tried this including searching the net for the driver and no luck. I've also tried microsoft update but no luck.
The reason i can't find the drivers is because the cardbus card is supposted to be plug and play but windows doesn't have them.
The good news is i found out my old card was 32-bit just like the new one so my laptop is compatible. I don't want to just go and by another card incase that one won't work.

  • Satellite Pro A120 goes through configuration every time turned on

Please help for the last month every time i turn on my laptop Satellite pro A120 with vista business pre-installed it configures which takes about an hour.
After it finally turns on it repairs itself and then when on the McAfee warns it needs updating.
I have tried installing updates, I have tried turning off the automatic updates, only thing i haven't tried is throwing it out of the bedroom window.
If you can help please keep your language simple as i don't have much technical knowledge.
    Thanks in anticipation.

Can you explain how it 'repairs itself' ?
To rule out a software/Windows problem, you can reinstall Windows back to its factory state by running "Recovery".
But you need to backup your data (documents, music, emails, etc..) before running Recovery. It will wipe/delete C: Drive.
To run Recovery, hold down the Zero (0) Key when you power-on the laptop.

  • How install the LAN driver for Satellite Pro A120

And theres other issue that i need the Ethernet Controller
My laptop was vista OS installed, But i change it and put Windows XP instead

Thats very easy to install the LAN driver.
On the Toshiba website you can search for it:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com => Support & Downloads => Download drivers
Select the right notebook. In your case its the Satellite Pro => Satellite Pro A Series => Satellite Pro A120.
And then choose at operating system Windows XP and at Driver type LAN Driver.
Click on search and you will get the right driver.
Download and install it. How this works did Jimi said.

  • Satellite Pro A120: Need all drivers and easyguard for Win 7

    Hi!
I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro A120, which I purchased back in 2007 and I am very satisfied with it.
It had Windows Vista Business, but recently I installed Windows 7 and this is where my dilemmas began.
My touch pad doesn't work correctly, its scroll feature doesn't work anymore, to be precised. I installed the latest ALPS touch pad driver, but the problem remains.
Then, when I checked the system, I noticed two devices that are listed and it said that there are no drivers installed for them. I cannot find out which devices are those and where to find the drivers.
    Here are they:
    1st: ACPI\TOS6208\2&DABA3FF&1 Driver not installed!
    2nd: ACPI\TOS620A\2&DABA3FF&1 Driver not installed!
And my third problem is regarding Toshiba's sets of programs and utilities.
My laptop came with Toshiba Easyguard, with theft protection and other Toshiba programs, and now I lost them all. Is there any way I can get them?
I have to say that I have no intention of going back to Windows Vista, so any help would be appreciated.
Thank you all for your answers and help!

    Hi
In my in my humble opinion the additional touchpad features and other devices dont work correctly because the installed drivers are not designed for Win 7 and possibly are not fully compatible with Win 7.
Who knows if the Win 7 drivers would be released for Sat A120 series we will see
At this time I didnt find special Win 7 drivers for A120.
But if found some Win 7 beta drivers on US page:
    http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/home.jsp
Maybe you are lucky man and some drivers would run on your A120.

  • Satellite Pro A120-10W - Function keys not working since hard drive wipe

    Hello,
I have a Satellite Pro A120-10W running Windows XP Pro SP3, and have just had my hard drive wiped, because of viruses. Everything seems to work fine, but I cant use the function keys to change the brightness etc. I have looked at various help forums however most seem to give answers for Windows 7 or vista. 7
    Can someone help please?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello
As you can see in other threads, you need special drivers/tools for FN keys to get them working because there is no Windows standard driver for these keys.
Anyway, you have to download Common Modules as Akuma wrote. After installation the keys should start working again.
You can download the tools on official Toshiba website.
If you have problems with installation or it was successful, just post some feedback. ;)

  • Satellite Pro A120 cannot boot up when printer is connected

Hi I have a brand new Toshiba Satellite Pro A120 but am having a very strange problem.
I installed my printer - Epson Stylus Photo R300 but now the laptop wont boot up if the printer is turned on. When I turn it on the Toshiba screen comes up ok, then the Windows XP screen comes up with the black background when the blue bar goes across to load Windows but its all faded out and the laptop just freezes and will not power up!
However if you turn the printer off and re-start the laptop it boots up fine!
Its definitely the printer that is causing this as its only when I have it turned on.
It never caused this problem with my old PC that was using Windows XP too.
Any help with a resolution would be greatly appreicated.
    Thanks
    Adam.

    Hello Adam
I am afraid there is not much to do. Friend of mine has the same problem and the fact is that Epson chipset is pretty bad and it gives completely wrong information to the system. Because of that notebook is confused and can not start.
I can just recommend you to use USB hub and I hope it will work. I dont know if your notebook can boot from USB device but if this option is available please disable it.
    Good luck!

  • Satellite Pro A120 - Second hard drive on secondary IDE channel

    Hello
    I have a Satellite Pro A120 xp sp3.
I've been trying to get it to recognise a 2nd hard drive on the secondary ide channel but it won't. Cd drive has been removed and replaced with one of these, the with the pata to sata interface.
    [http://newmodeus.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2_27&produc ts_id=245]
The second hard drive is a seagate sata 500 GB drive. Drive is spinning and recieving power but not showing up in storage management or device manager.
In the Bio's (uptodate) it shows me this but won't let me edit it.
    Drives I/O
Built in HDD = serial ATA port 0
    CD rom = Secondary ide (170H - IRQ 15)
To me the hardware is capable of supporting two HDD's as long as you remove cd drive but it seems like the bio's is locking me out of deselecting CD rom on the second IDE channel.
Please could some one point me in the right direction to resolve this.
    Thanks
    Zander

    Thanks for the help.
Ok I followed what you said and this is what happens.
Uninstalled CD drive in device manager.
boot to bios with out 2nd hard drive in the slot. Bios shows no secondary IDE channel or hard drive
As soon as I push in the 2nd hard drive caddy and boot it says CD error, doesn't show in windows or device manager. Bios shows CD drive again. Also the CD drive is reinstalled in the device manager.
Tried it with original HDD with operating system on it in the 2nd hard drive bay and it won't boot, looks for bootable device but can't read it.
Why does it only see the cd drive! Annoying.
    Any more ideas?

  • Re: Satellite Pro A120 - CD/DVD drive doesnt work anymore

Hi, I have a Satellite Pro A120, and keep on having problems with my CD/DVD driver. I spoke to few of you on the phone, the fix it solution on http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060 seems to do the trick for a couple of hours and then I am back to square one.
Today, I think I have reached the end of my possibilities, the solution above no longer works, I have a message that says that it doesn't work for the specifications of my PC.
In the meantime, something must have happened because my webcam, that I have since 2007, no longer works either, and in spite of the fact that I have tried time and time again to install those drivers, the PC just won't allow me.
    It's a dead end really...
And... yes, I have done the business of going to Device Manager, disable the CD/DVD driver facility etc....
    Thanks for your help
    Hotxbun

Is the drive shown properly in device manager?
When you remove CD/DVD drive from the device manager after restart it should be recognized again. Can you use it after doing this?
Have you tried to reinstall OS using Toshiba recovery CD/DVD?

  • Satellite Pro A120: What is a part number of mother board

    Hello,
I want to know the part number of my Toshiba Satellite Pro A120-223 systems board, I've been trying to look for it on actual board, but I can't seem to find it written anywhere.
Is there a database of part numbers anywhere online..? I've been searching but failed to find anything.
I want to know (for future references) if I'd be able to upgrade my current mobo of 533MHz FSB and really poor graphics onto a higher end system should I suddenly become completely fed up of my current one. I've been reading about the core 2 duo mobile processors, and their performances, but they're 800FSB, I can't upgrade without a total mobo replacement.
    Any thoughts..?
    Thank you.

    > Is there a database of part numbers anywhere online..? I've been searching but failed to find anything.
Dont know such database maybe the authorized service provider in your country can help you. Usually the technicians has an access to such informations

  • Satellite Pro A120-145: yellow exlamation mark in the device manager

    Hi all,
I have a Satellite Pro A120-145 running Win Xp Pro fully patched and up to date, I have a yellow exlamation mark against "serial" in non plug and play in device manager (when i click show hidden devices).
Could anyone tell me which driver is needed for this? I don't want to use the recovery disc as I have done a custom install to get rid of excess baggage which is included on the disc.
    thanks in advance.

That troubleshooting guide that Juan28 posted is really good. If the driver of the unknown device is already available (i.e. after the recovery CD installation) you might find your way through.
In case you can't locate a suitable driver for your unknown device on your Laptop, you could try and download a freeware called "Unknown Device Identifier" from this site:
    http://www.zhangduo.com/udi.html
This program will allow you to locate the device ID and make a search with it on the Internet.
Hope this will sort things out.

can't update firefox. window says downloading firefox 3.6.18 connecting to server and continues forever

    Hi jrtartaglia,
You should take a look at the Knowledge Base article [[Updating Firefox]]. There is a lot of good information in there and some troubleshooting steps as well.
If that doesn't work, you might want to try installing a fresh copy of Firefox:
    http://www.mozilla.org/firefox/new/
I would suggest that you first back up your personal information and bookmarks, just in case. You can find details in the article [[Backing up your information]].
    Hopefully this helps!

  • No sound on Satellite Pro A120 with Windows Vista

    Hi
I have had to reinstall my Vista operating system and rebuild my A120 Satellite Pro from the revovery disk.
Most things are fine but I cant get any sound from the speakers of headphine jack.
I have checked andit says that the Realtek High Definition Sound Driver is installed and working correctly.
My volume buttons are up high on the mixer and on Windows Media Player.
    The driver is Realtek 6.0.1.5317
    Help would be much appreciatesd

Nothing through the speakers, nothing via the headphone socket. Volume bar goes up and down with the music as it should do when you play an audio file. Tried the Windows Vista built in driver, the Realtek ones from the Toshiba site.
Last thing to try is rebuilding to the XP support disk, making sure the volume is right at the tip and unmuted, and try reinstalling Vista again, which is tonight's job, but I'm not feeling hopeful about it. Like I said before the toshiba unmute tool didn't do anything for me.
