Satellite pro A200 won't start up / boot

Hi,
my laptop is refusing to startup beyond the windows loading page, I disabled automatic restart and the message on the blue screen says:
STOP: c0000221 {Bad Image Checksum} The image oleaut32.dll is possibly corrupt. The header checksum does not match the computed checksum.
Does anyone know what I need to do?
Thanks in advance for any help.

  • Re: Satellite Pro A200 - Won't boot with 4GB RAM

    Hi,
I've installed 2 x 2GB, but it seems it doesn't work. The funny thing is that when running just one memory strip (so 2GB) it works, when running both it doesn't work and it freezes. These are the Samsung 2GB 2Rx8 PC2 - 6400s - 666 - 12 - E3
Ive' installed the latest BIOS update (64bit v2.60) for the Satellite Pro A200 and I am running Windows 7 64bit

    Hi caribman
What Satellite Pro A200 you have exactly?
I ask this because some A200 models were equipped with Intel 943GML chipset and these models support 2GB only!!!

  • Satellite Pro A200: XP + Vista installed/dual boot possible?

    Hi,
I am not sure if I am right here at XP OS but I post it as it is OS related.
My Satellite Pro A200 (PSAE7) runs smoothly with XP but I want to create a sandbox (partition) for/with Vista.
Basically I know that it is possible to run XP and Vista on one system. *But*, Satellite Pro A200 notebooks are shipped with a BIOS for XP and one for Vista and with information that you have to install the correct one. For me this means that you have to install BIOS for XP when running XP and BIOS for Vista when running Vista.
    Question:
Is it possible to install Vista on a Satellite Pro A200 with XP as main OS and having so XP BIOS installed?
Boot loader would be Acronis OSS as this loader already manage my two XP partitions.
    Many thanks for any information!
    Best regards,
    Andreas

    Hi
In my opinion there are no serious reasons why you shouldnt be able to use Xp and Vista on your Satellite Pro A200.
Ok there are different BIOS for Vista 64bit, 32bit and Win XP but your Vista should run also using the BIOS for Win XP.
Ive got other Satellite notebook series and Im able to use XP and Vista at the same time. I mean Ive got a choice to boot either the XP or Vista ;) and Im still using the old BIOS version.
Ok some functions are not available like FN keys but this is not very important for me.
Well, to cut this story I think you can use Vista and XP without changing the BIOS ;)

  • Satellite Pro A200: How to create Dual boot; Vista & XP using Recovery CD

I have just purchased a Satellite Pro A200 lap-top, which was supplied with Product Recovery disks for both Vista and XP.
The Vista licence specifically also licences XP.
Can I set up a dual boot so that I can boot to either Vista or XP ? If so, how?
I would also like, as a third boot, Red Hat Linux 9.
    Any comments ?

Hmmm. Usually its possible to use two or more operating systems on the computer but as far as I know the Toshiba Vista Recovery CD formats the whole HDD during the Vista installation and this will lead to losing of the installed OS's.
Im not 100% sure about the XP Recovery CD The newest CD called RECO doesnt include expert mode which allows choosing between different partitions.
So I presume every usage of the Recovery CD will format the HDD and will erase the installed data. But of course you could try to install both OS and to check if the XP recovery CD allows choosing second portion for the OS installation.
If it will not function it seems that you will need either an original Microsoft XP CD or the original Vista CD to use both OS.
    Best regards

  • Satellite Pro L300 won't start

I have got a Satellite Pro L300 laptop and it will not do anything on startup (in other words on pressing the power button and not going past very first screen).
The keyboard works, but F2 ,F8 or F12 won't do anything, I can here the hard-drive powerup but its like no-one is at home. I don't know if its the motherboard or the on-board battery. The computer is about 7-8 yrs old
    Can anyone help.

Yes, this it correct; the Ram modules should be checked. In my opinion you should use good, tested modules.
Some years ago my notebook did not boot up because one of the modules died.
This affected the notebook functionality and display stayed black even pressing the power button.
At the other hand you could try this simple workaround. Sometimes this helps too:
    - remove battery, disconnect AC adaptor
    - press and hold the power button 30 sec long
    - connect both parts battery and ac adaptor and power up the unit.
    Good luck

  • Satellite Pro P200 won't start up

I have a 1 week old Satellite Pro P200, it turned itself off when i was just in the start menu so i wasnt doing anything out of the norm (power cable was plugged in). Since then it simply wont turn on.
With the power cable plugged in I have a blue power, battery and power supply light (although for approx 2 restart attempts the battery light was red, but now blue). The drive light flickers for about 3 seconds each time i try to boot and I can hear something happening inside the machine, but after that 3 seconds....nothing, totally dead.
I have tried removing the battery, waiting 20 minutes or so and none of that has worked. Anybody got any ideas??

Seems to be definitely an hardware problem... very bad :(
Why you don't visit your notebook dealer again and ask for the swap.
Maybe the dealer will exchange the laptop with a new one.
If not, then you will have to contact the authorized service provider in your country for a help.
If you have bought an additional on-site service then the technician will visit you at home and will try to solve this issue.
    Good luck

  • Satellite Pro 460 won't start with new hard drive in

I recently got a Satellite Pro 460 but it had no hard drive in.
It starts great with no drive in but as soon as I put a brand new hard drive in it won't start.
I thought that it might be to new a hard drive so I took my old working drive out my old Toshiba Satellite and still it won't start.
Any one got any ideas why this is and what can i do about it

It sounds like 80GB is too large for that model, I really doubt the BIOS and Chipset can support more than 8GB HDD. 8GB may not even work.
Here is some information regarding different HDD modes and limitations: http://www.adminxp.com/hardware/index.php?aid=129
504MB - limitation where the system is limited by the compatibility with the values of the BIOS system and the ATA interface by help of using the CHS mode. This limitation is valid for older computers 286/386/486. (1024 cyl 16 heads x 63sectors/track x 512 = 528,482,304bytes - 504 MB). In many cases special programs will help (Disk Ontrack Manager - Seagate, Disk Wizard - WD). Some operating systems can have problems with this software support and can have higher requirements on your knowledge of the OS and used programs.
2GB - Limitation of the maximal value of the FAT16 file system partition for DOS and Windows 9x. Some older computers cannot address more than 4095 cylinders (4,095 x 16 x 63x 512 - 2,113,413,120 bytes)
4GB Limitation of Windows NT - Partition with the FAT16 system cannot be higher than 4GB - Fdisk cannot be used for creating, but the Disk manager is used (Disk management in Windows 2000)
8GB - Limitation of the BIOS system. For the support of larger capacities you need extended functions of the BIOS system. Limitations valid for the x86 computers and some motherboards with Pentium and Pentium II processors. Some other operating systems must know how to use the extended BIOS functions (Extended Interrupt 13). We can use Windows NT 4.0 as an example where you need an updated disk driver or the Service Pack. (OS - DOS 6.xx and lower, Windows 3.x and lower and some other older OS do not have the support of the Ext. Int13).
8 GB - Limitation of the FDISK program in the DOS 6.22 OS.
?? GB - Possible problem with disks larger than 67GB under Windows 9x... See article WD800
    32GB - (65535 x 16 x 63 x 512 - 33,822,351,360 bytes) other limitation of the BIOS system.
68GB - Possible problem with disks larger than 67GB under Windows 9x... See article WD800
137GB - Limit for the ATA specifications (28-bit addressing for particular sectors - 268435455 sectors - 137,438,952,960 bytes)
2,2 TBytes - 32-bit addressing used by new operating systems (in Windows 98 by help of the FAT32 file system).
144 PetaBytes - a limit for new ATA specification using 48-bit addressing, in peparation. Maxtor, Microsoft, VIA, Compaq and other companies under name Big Drives participate the development. The standard should be implemented and authorized by the ANSI NCITS T13 Technical Committee organization (www.t13.org) in the prepared ATA/ATAPI-6 standard (see www.maxtor.com/bigdrive)

  • Satellite Pro 2100 won't start at all - LED start flashing

My SP2100 has started having power problems, and now won't start at all. The AC adapter green LED is on, as are the relevant lights on the laptop body (although the 'battery charging' light always stays orange these days). When I attempt switch on, boot up starts (and has in fact been successful on occasion until this morning), however the battery indicator and the adapter lights start flashing, and everything shuts down again.
On the rare occasions when I get past this stage, the lights keep flashing, and the system soon shuts down again with a 'low battery' screen message. Until this morning, it would sometimes settle down, the computer stayed on, and the lights showed a steady state as normal.
I initially thought that the problem was obviously the battery or the AC adapter, but now I'm beginning to think that it lies with laptop's internal power adapter (although I suspect that the battery is probably shot following all this part charging and discharging).
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
I think you are right. Flashing LEDs are a sign that some hardware is faulty.
I can't say what's exactly the problem, this should be checked by a technicain.
On the other side I'm not sure if it is worth to repair such an old machine.
    Bye

  • Satellite Pro A200 does not start up

    Hi
I have an A200 with XP PRO installed.
After a routine defrag and restart the laptop when booting back up gets to my screensaver page then makes the noise off shutting back down.
No toolbar appears just goes straight tomy log in page and i have to shut it down?
When I try to restart in any of the three safe modes, again I get to the log in stage press enter the screen flickers twice and I get the login page again?
I have taken out the Ram stick and HDD to see if anything is amiss but they both seem fine..
Xmas eve and no laptop. Yeah I know. Get a life.
    Can anybody help?

If you cannot even start your notebook in safe mode it is very bad situation.
What you can try is to obtain Microsoft installations CD and try to boot up with it and use REPAIR option.
If this will not help I really don't know what you can do aside from clean OS installation with recovery media.
Do you have some important data on the HDD?

  • Satellite Pro L20 won't start up on battery

    Hi
I have a Sat Pro L20 and it wouldn't start up on battery; I have to plug it into the mains to work. It says the battery level is at 88%. The laptop is less than a years old so i don't think there's a problem with the battery.
    Thanks.

Maybe there something wrong with the power supply electronic on the motherboard???
According to you info the warranty should be valid. So contact the Asp in your country immediately and ask for further handling.
    Good luck

  • Satellite Pro A200 - System won't start

    Hi,
was wondering if anyone could help?
My Satellite Pro A200 with windows XP won't start. It begins with the Toshiba screen.
Then goes to a black screen with text where it says "PXEE61 media test failure - check cable" (I have no cables) then says exiting PXErom; moves onto the next screen which lists options: safe mode; safe mode with networking; safe mode with communal prompt; Last known Good Configeration; start windows normally.
All of which have been tried and results in the windows loading page coming up for about 20 secs then it just gives up and tries the whole process all over again (before flashing a blue screen).
Nothing seems to work - have tried taking the battery out a number oftimes...and the power cable but to no avail.
This has happened before but after a few false starts gets going - however this time it just won't snap out of it. I could take it in to some where locally but i'd prefer not to as I'm living in Spain and need the laptop asap and not sure I want to leave it in some one else's hands at the risk of them wiping the hard drive.
I'd be so so grateful for any help asap and I'm afraid short hand tech may have to be explained.
    Many, many thanks.

    Hi
I think the problem is that the OS cannot be found on the HDD.
The PXEE61 media test failure - check cable appears mostly if the notebook tries to boot from the LAN.
Why the notebook tries to boot from the LAN?
    Well,
    - maybe the LAN option was chooses at first in the booting order in the BIOS
    - maybe the HDD is faulty and therefore the notebook tries to boot from LAN
    - maybe the MBR (master boot record) is faulty
I think you should take the Toshiba recovery CD and should format the HDD and should reinstall the OS.
    This should helps.
If not, then the HDD could malfunctions and should be replaced!

  • Satellite Pro A200 - Hard Drive has lost half it's memory

I have a toshiba Satellite Pro A200 running Vista. Vista came preloaded and I don't have any discs for it. I have had it since new (Sept 2007). The hard drive is split into drives. Recently my C drive has competely filled up and I now have no space left (55gigs gone) I store no data in this drive. All my media (music, photos, other files) is in my E drive. I have to run C Cleaner each time I boot up in order to have enough space to operate the computer. I also have to delete all but the most recent restore point in order to function.
I am at my wits end and think I must have a virus or something. Is there a way to restore the computer to 'new'? I have all my files backed up on an external hard drive so I don't mind starting from scratch. Bearing in mind I have no install discs as Vista came pre-loaded.
    Can anyone help????? please!

If you don't have any disc and if you didn't get any disc with your notebook that means your notebook was delivered with HDD recovery image and this image is saved on second HDD partition in folder called HDDRecovery.
Recovery disc can be created using preinstalled Toshiba recovery disc creator. I don't know if you still have all this.
The whole story with HDD is somehow strange to me. If your notebook has two partitions and partition C is full I am asking myself what is with second partition. It must be pretty empty.
What is capacity of second HDD partition?
What is free space on this second partition?
You wrote about E drive. What is E drive?
You must understand that nobody of us know what are you doing exactly, what programs are installed on your notebook. You wrote about no saving data on partition C. Maybe you are wrong about it. Maybe you download many torrents and they are saved somewhere on HDD. who knows?
Do you have some friends with good PC knowledge? Try to find someone who can take a look onto preinstalled system and check what is going wrong there.

  • Re: Satellite Pro A200 - Screen goes black after BIOS screen

    Hi,
I'm new to the forum and have quite a big problem. So any help is welcome and appreciated.
My Satellite Pro A200 goes black after the BIOS screen and a black screen with a blinking cursor. Also just before the screen goes black a bleep can be heard which shows windows is booting.
I can access the toshiba set-up screen but not the safety mode set-up.
    Kind Regards

    Hello
You wrote that you can access the BIOS but have you checked if the HDD is recognized properly? Maybe the computer cannot boot because HDD isnt recognized so you should check this.
If the HDD is recognized I would try a recovery installation from Toshiba recovery disk. It seems that Windows isnt able to start and if you reinstall the whole system it should help to get rid of this. Just go in boot menu and select CD/DVD drive as boot device.
    Check this!!!

You can use either the HDD recover or the Recovery disk.
If HDD recover does not work and if you dont have the disk then you could order this here:

  • XP via RIS installation on 32 Satellite Pro A200 laptops

    Hi,
Can anyone help? I'm trying to install 32 laptops (Satellite Pro A200) via Windows 2003 Server Remote Installation Services. I've got past the problems with network cards and now have these working by adding the drivers into a $OEM$, $1, Drivers, Nic folder and thought that it might be simple to use the same solution to install the drivers for the SATA controller. How wrong could I be! I'm now pulling my hair out. The machines have the drivers installed in the same way ($OEM$ etc) in a directory marked sata. I have used the drivers from Intel's site - extracted to floppy disk and copied from there. Every time I try to re-image I get the same error "Windows did not detect any hard disk drives" and it's driving me crazy! I have edited risstnrd.sif, textsetup.oem etc etc to no avail.
I found a link on Toshiba's German site for downloading drivers in this situation but the link is pretty slow I've tried to download those drivers now from three separate locations (3 different ADSL accounts) and each one starts off at about 36k per sec then dwindles down to bytes per second and then fails. (It's only a 21Mb file!)
Has anyone managed to deploy these laptops via RIS? If so can you please let me know how you did it and what drivers you used?
    Many thanks,

    Hello Mark
In my opinion RIS installation is pretty complicated theme and I am really skeptic someone will be able to help you. If you have some time try to use advanced search and check the results for RIS as searched term.
Other way you can create your own recovery DVD and use it for OS installation. For recovery procedure you need about 20 minutes.
