Satellite Pro A210 OS problems

Early Nov 2014 my Satellite Pro A210-EZ2203X started experiencing major malfunctions.
1. CD/DVD drive stopped working and disappeared from the “Computer” menu.
2. I checked the Bios and it showed there is “no CD/DVD”. After that, my cmptr froze up, the keyboard would not work, no mouse would work.
3. I took it to be serviced. They got it running but apparently installed a copy of W XP from Dell because there are 2 folders; DELL; DECCHECK, existing on the C Drive. I purchased and installed an internal CD/DVD drive of the same style and manufacture year as my existing one. It is not recognized by the cmptr either.
4. To date the Bios still does not show a CD/DVD drive. Currently the cmptr will boot from a USB portable DVD disk, however.  The cmptr does recognize the portable USB DVD drive I purchased after I got it back from the repair shop.
5. Previously I had purchased a retail version of W 7 Pro. This included 32 and 64 bit disks. My goal was to install the 64 bit version on my Satellite Pro A210 which I believe is possible. However, every time I tried to start the installation a message appeared telling me that “This version of Windows is not compatible with the 32 bit system. Please insert the proper disc.” Or something similar. The cmptr will not allow me to install the 64 bit version.
6. After several attempts to install the 32 bit W 7 version I got it to install. I could not format the hard disk(as far as I know) but could only “custom install” the 32 bit W 7 version. Even after installing W 7 the Dell folders remain (presume because they are system folders).
7. Can I install a W 7, 64 bit version on my A210? Do I need to install drivers from Toshiba first (what drivers)? Do I need to reformat the hard disk? How?
8. HELP!!

Satellite Pro A210-EZ2203X (PSAFHU-011002)
Downloads are here.
The following ODDs will work.
   V000100710 - V000100850 - V000102290 - V000101190 - V000100700 - V000102040 - V000101200
If your part number is not one of those, google for prices.
Don't mess with 64-bit Windows! If it would install, it would even run slower.
You should remove and recreate/format the partition during installation.
You will need essentially all of the drivers and utilities at the download site above to make that laptop operate as designed. The order of installation matters. Be sure to install the AMD display driver prior to any other driver. It puts the chipset software in place. Install the TVAP before any other Toshiba utility.

  • Satellite Pro A210 PSAFHE - Windows 7 - freezes after sleep/hibernate

I have a Satellite Pro A210 PSAFHE running dual boot Windows XP/7
Using Windows 7 - either 32 or 64 - the system always freezes after sleep/hibernate.
This never happens with XP which sleeps and hibernates OK..
There are no drivers at all for this notebook on the site http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp?service=EU
I like System 7 and use it on my other computers but without sleep/hibernate I will revert to XP.

    Hi
    > There are no drivers at all for this notebook on the site http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp?service=EU
Sorry mate but you are wrong.
All Win 7 drivers for Satellite Pro A210 are released on the Toshiba European driver page I recommend checking it again
Since this issue does not appear using Win XP, I can say for sure that this has nothing to do with the hardware but its a software related issue
I recommend updating the graphic card driver
Furthermore there is a new BIOS for Sat Pro A210 PSAFHEits v2.0
Check if you are using the latest version

  • Satellite Pro A210 DVD Drive not working - error code 39

    Hi All
My Satellite Pro A210 dvd drive is not loading.
When I looked into it it showed an error code 39.
I tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it but it's still not working.
    Any ideas?

    Hi
From my knowledge the error message 39 appears if the CD/DVD drive is not visible in the My Computer.
    You can try this workaround:
Go to device manager and delete the CD/DVD drive from the device list.
Then go to registry (regedit) and remove the upper and lower filters from the key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\ Control\Class\ {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Then reboot the unit and test it again
    I think this should help!

  • Satellite Pro A210 - Doesn't go into standby

I have a Satellite Pro A210 with Windows XP installed.
For the past serveral months i have had the issue where I cannot change the power scheme options. Any changes I made would just go back to default after a certain amount of time. When I recently tried to fix it I noticed people saying to install Toshiba Common Module and Toshiba Power Saver. I have installed both but now my system wont go into stand by mode (when closing the lid on my computer as well as going to start-shutdown-stand by)
The settings seem to be setup correctly in the power save application and i am using the Toshiba Power Saver power scheme. I tried to unistnall Power saver and it still does not allow me to go into stand by. I cannot install Common Module because it does not show up in add/remove programs.
Any Ideas? I am getting tired of having to shut down the pc every time I have to transport it. :)
    Stephen

    Hi
Listen buddy. The Common Modules will not appear in add remove programs.
You can install it executing the exe file.
But in my opinion its nothing wrong with power saver or common modules.
In my opinion your Windows OS is muddled up some and somewhere registry keys and other files are corrupt and therefore the power saver does not function as it should.
I assume everything worked properly some days ago. Right?
Maybe an update or an installation of some applications muddled up the OS who knows
You can try to clean the registry and OS using CCleaner. Its free tool.
If this doesnt help then I dont see many solution proposals as to reinstall the OS

Everytime i use my Chicony 2.0 USB Webcamin Skype or other Onlineapplications my Wlan shuts off.

    Hello
Do you still have these problems?
I dont know which online applications do you mean but if you use webcam with Skype, MSN or similar applications it should work properly and it has nothing to do with any kind of connectivity.
Preinstalled Web camera Application must not start with operating system and I recommend you to disable it in start-up or exit web camera Application before you start this online application.
For instance, when you use Skype and start it web cam should be recognized automatically. Check it in Skype video options.

  • Satellite Pro A300 PSAGDA: Problems installing webcam on Win 7

    Hi there guys,
its been a few weeks since installing Windows 7, only for the last few days have i actually bothered to install toshiba software (dont stone me!).
Right now I've been scratching my head when installing the webcam drivers. When the install is done and after a reset, all it says is Webcam failed to initialize, please restart cam or computer.
Restarting the laptop wont do anything
I am using a Toshiba Satellite pro A300 PSAGDA-01C00R, do these drivers simply not work for the time being on 7?
any help would be great, thanks!

    Hello
I have installed THIS version of webcam driver on my Win7 preinstalled Satellite A300 and it works perfectly.
I have tested preinstalled software and it runs well. I have also tested it with Skype. No problems at all.
Test it on your Satellite too.

  • Satellite Pro L850 1DR - Problems with Windows 7 Update KB2887069

I am having problems installing Update KB2887069.
It appears to install okay ... invites me to restart ... when I do it says it is configuring ... gets to 7% then starts the restart ... shows it is configuring again ... up to 7 or 9% ... then reports it is failing and restoring ... restarts again ... and that's it ... not installed and reference to Windows Update confirms it has failed.
All the other updates I had today installed okay once I realised KB2887069 was the problem and omitted it from the update.
I'm running Win 7 Prof Serv Pack 1 - 64-bit on a Toshiba Satellite Pro L850 1DR. I use Microsoft Security Essentials as my AV software.
For now I have had to hide the update ... but anyone any bright ideas how to overcome the problem. I have tried Microsoft's site but as yet there are no answers that have provided a solution for me.
    Thanks in anticipation!!

I am "replying to myself" on this one so if anyone else has experienced a similar problem they can see what I did to resolve the matter.
I contacted Microsoft and received excellent support ... although it took a long old time (over the course of 3 days) to resolve the problem, the staff at Microsoft knew their stuff and proceeded tenaciously to overcome every obstacle.
I did feel somewhat sorry for them that one little update should result in the need to offer so much commitment to just one customer ... I was also grateful the resolution was achieved over a time when I was not that busy!
Additional Info: I refer above to 3 days ... for those interested, the time was spent as follows:
Day 1: about an hour and a half covering all the basic checks including sfc /scannow etc after which the update would still not install. (I had done these but accepted Microsoft needed to have the opportunity to check the situation for themselves).
Day 2: a technician called me at a pre-agreed time and having done a few more checks decided to re-download Windows 7.1 (over 3 GB ... on my connection that took a long time) and re-install it (without affecting my data, thank goodness ... but again the process of installation took a long time). The technician left me to do all the updating (a further 3-400MB). Time commitment for me about 5 hours ... but I was able to work on other things while the download, install etc was on as long as I kept half an eye on the screen.
Day 3: the same technician called me back (just when he said he would) ... told him I had no problems with updates (incl KB2887069) but was getting a weird message in Outlook when following hyperlinks and also I could not install IE11 for some reason. Both problems were resolved and other tiny matters sorted over the course of one hour.
Summary: problem therefore took up to 7.5 hours of my time to overcome, approximately half of which I was able to turn my attention to other things on another machine. In my view an acceptable investment of time to have the peace of mind of knowing everything is working just as it should be. I was impressed with Microsoft's staff who were as reliable as they were friendly and patient.

  • Satellite Pro C660 - Keyboard Problems

This question relates to a Toshiba Satellite Pro C660-1UX Laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1.
Some of the onboard keys (E, T, U, I, O, A, B, N, together with the Enter key) fail to register.
All of the other keys tested so far appear to register normally.
When connecting an external USB keyboard, all keys function properly. However, when using either the onboard keyboard or the external USB keyboard, it is necessary to hold down whatever key is selected for approx 2-3 seconds in order for its character to register. This makes typing incredibly slow and is understandably unacceptable.
I've checked device manager looking for errors, but am unable to find any. The driver for the keyboard is listed as installed and working properly, and driver update says that the latest version is in already in use.
I have also scanned for viruses using Malware Bytes and Spybot, and also with the laptops own pre-installed antivirus software. All of the full system scans return a no threat found message.
I have read that the keyboards on these machines can sometime be problematic, which could answer why only certain onboard keys function. The fact that all keys on the external USB keyboard work would seem to confirm this. However, the fact that both onboard and external keyboard is affected by the same slow keypress might also suggest a bios problem - but as this laptop is several years old and has been working perfectly, why would bios suddenly cause this problem.
I have visited the Toshiba website and based on this laptop having Part number: PSC0ME-02100SEN I have determined (rightly or wrongly) that the correct bios download version is 1.70-WIN, only when I read the following bios installation instructions http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD9502M10000R01.htm
I became pretty concerned, as the installation of the bios update appears far from simple.
Does anyone know if it is possible to download and install the correct bios by means of an automated update as opposed to the manual download and step by step installation, which, if not carried out as intended, could render the laptop totally unusable.
Has anyone reading this post experienced similar issues with this make and model of laptop and managed to successfully return it to proper working order. If so, how?
Any constructive advice would be gratefully received.

    > When connecting an external USB keyboard, all keys function properly.
This means that keyboard controller is OK and the internal keyboard is faulty.
To fix this keyboard issue, the internal keyboard should be replaced.
    >However, the fact that both onboard and external keyboard is affected by the same slow keypress might also suggest a bios problem - but as this laptop is several years old and has been working perfectly, why would bios suddenly cause this problem.
    Hmm I dont think so
The keyboard delay may be related to the settings.
You can check this in control panel -> keyboard

  • Satellite Pro A210 - How to recover it with misplaced recovery disk`?

I have been having some problems with my Satellitte Pro A210, (AMD Athlon 64 x2, Vista, 120GB HDD, 2GB RAM), and it seems that I have made recovery discs when new and have misplaced them.
    What can I do?

What you can do? Good question.
If you don't have original Toshiba installations disc you have two options either order new one under https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx or use Microsoft installations disc. All drivers, tools and utilities you can find on Toshiba support and download page.
By the way: if you got notebook with recovery image saved on HDD you can try to install OS using F8 and Repair my computer option. More about that you can read under

  • Satellite Pro C650 - Charging Problems

I am having some problems with the charging of my Satellite C650 laptop.
When the charger is connected to my laptop, the battery shows "Plugged In and not charging".
However, when I remove the power cord after it has been connected for several hours the laptop stays on for at least 2 hours!
When I turn it all off then try & turn on my laptop the following day nothing happens.
I assumed that the battery has finally packed in (it is almost a year old).
I purchased a new battery & put it in my laptop & left it to charge several hours until green light came on. I removed the power cord & the laptop powered off straight away!
I have heard that updating the bios might be a solution. However, I tried updating from version 1.60 to 1.90 but kept getting the error message "Error region MAP not found".
    Please help me sort this.
Any suggestions would be highly appreciated.
    Thank you .

    > I have heard that updating the bios might be a solution. However, I tried updating from version 1.60 to 1.90 but kept getting the error message "Error region MAP not found".
Yes, in some cases the BIOS update would solve the battery issues
Im wondering why you are not able to update the BIOS. I never seen such kind of error in the past
From my knowledge the BIOS update requires the installed VAP (value added package). Please try to install the VAP once again.
Furthermore be sure that no 3rd party software like firewall, antivirus software, etc run in the background while trying to update the BIOS.

  • Satellite Pro A210 Upgrade from Vista to Windows 7

    Hello
Can anyone suggest why I am having problems upgrading from 32bit vista to windows 7 - 32 vista?
I'm not sure if it is because there isn't enough RAM
Has anyone else had a similiar problem on this laptop?

Toshiba have a guide to upgrading at [http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/bulletin.jsp?ct=SB&soid=2450599&ref=EV]. I'd go through their suggested method and then come back if you still have problems

  • Satellite Pro A120 audio problem when played through amplifier

I've been experiencing some problems when attempting to playback music through an amplifier, using a lead from the headphone socket on my laptop connected to the amp's auxillary input: when the laptop is connected, the amp produces static, and a high-pitched hum. Weirdly, this only happens when the laptop is connected to the mains. I don't think it's a fault with my amp, as the laptop, when connected to the mains, also causes interference with the LCD screen I use with it. Is there anyway to resolve this problem? Could it be a fault with the laptop itself, or the power cable?

    Hi there,
The possible reasons for that issue can be:
    - your machine and the amp has differrent ground potentials and/or voltage is inductioned in a mass loop
    - over the screening of the audiocable is flowing a compensation voltage betwenn the amp and the notebook
    - a low DC-voltage were generated on the resistance of the screening which causes the buzzing
The point is that you have to ground or separate the currents of the amp and the notebook.
Its logical: your power outlet is causing a interference so if you connnect both to to it, you have the interference.
Check if some machines are connected to your power outlet which are needing heavily current (e.g. fan heater or what i know what) and disconnect them to see if the interference is going away.
If not, I suggest you to try that which was suggested in your last post.

  • Satellite Pro L20 keyboard problems not fixed by BIOS update

    Hello,
When I type in MS Word or another application, some characters are not displayed. This problem is known.
I have followed the TOSHIBA's recommendation to update BIOS V1.30 for PSL25E. Unfortunatey, this doesn't help.
I would be gateful for any advise.
    Thank you,
    olbur

    Hi guys
In my opinion if the BIOS update procedure doesnt solve the keyboard issue so you should contact the Toshiba service for replacing this part.
But did you use the right BIOS version?
You should check you notebook serial number
    The issue was fixed with
    - Bios V1.20 or higher for PSL20*-*, PSL25*-* and PSL27*-*
    - Bios V1.70 or higher for PSL2X*-*, PSLY*-* and PSL2Z*-*
If it doesnt work the last way is the service point.

  • BIOS update has killed my Satellite Pro A210-1AZ

    Hi
Today Tempro gave me an alert that there was a new BIOS update (bios-20100215113621). I duly installed in in the usual way. During the restart the machine came up with a BAD CHECKSUM message.
Whilst I was reading the message the machine gave a high pitched sqeak and promptly died. It will not restart or respond.
Can Toshiba please explain why they are distributing killer updates and propose how to bring my machine back to life.
We have two indentical machines so will leave my wife's running on the old bios.
Any one got any good ideas?

    Hi everyone,
Thanks for your suggestions and aplogies for my tardy reply. I think I've nailed the problem and am getting round it. I kept on trying to get the machine going and eventually it got as far as a windows screen sayig there was a windows problem. Windows sorted that out after a lot of grinding away and a restore. It was about then that I realised that MS were putting out a number of biggish updates. My wife's indentical laptop started its own MS update which involved a restart and a lengthy configuration routine. I think what happened was that unkown to me I was flashing my BIOS when MS Vista was updating itself too.
I now have a machnie that works. BUT! If I go into the BIOS after about 5 seconds I get a total machine shut down.
My plan is never to flash a BIOS again and cannot go into the BIOS.
Wifes PC seems to work perfectly OK on old BIOS, slow as ever but relaible.
    Cheers
    Fred
