  • Why does Satellite Pro A300 not start when the power button is pressed?

Suddenly my new Satellite Pro A300 will not start correctly when the power button is pressed. The situation is this: When I press the power button the Toshiba opening picture (Leading Innovation) appears and disappers quickly. Then there is a black screen for about 30 seconds. Then there is a rectangular frame with the text Microsoft Corporation underneath. And nothing happens however long I wait.
In order to get on with the starting proces I then shut down the computer by pressing down the power button until the computer stops. ("The hard way to shut down")
Now I press the power button shortly to turn on the computer. Then the computer starts normally with the Toshiba opening picture and after a few seconds I am asked to open the computer in safe mode or in normal mode. I now choose to open in normal mode and the computer opens normally and is ready to work.
What shall I do to get a normal start procedure?

When notebook starts normally (after choosing normal mode) shut down your notebook properly using START > Shut down option. Next start should be normal.
When the OS is switched down on irregular way you will be always asked how to start it again (safe or normal mode).
The same happen on my Satellite A300.

  • Satellite Pro A300 standby and hibernate functions not working properly

    I have a new satellite Pro A300 PSAJ1E - 01E00VIT, and I'm finding this problem:
Sometimes, (not always: may be it depends on which program is running) when trying to put the computer in stand-by or in hibernate mode, it doesn't stop, but only shuts down the monitor (panel), while the fan goes on running and the power light is green. Obviously, lots of battery energy consumption!
Then there is no other way of resuming than shutting down the computer by holding down the power button long time... but this is not correct!
NB: my computer is always connected to a lan, and generally there are some browser windows open when I put it in stand-by mode.
    How can I fix this?
    jomurray

Generally you are right but the point is that you have said that this issue doesnt happen always but sometimes.
    > Sometimes, (not always: may be it depends on which program is running) when trying to put the computer in stand-by or in hibernate mode, it doesn't stop
Fact is that some single applications which are running can prevent the execution of standby mode or hibernation mode.
Therefore if you are running such programs you will have to close it firstly.
I dont say that this must be done with all applications. ;)

  • Satellite Pro A300-1GT - Error message when starting webcam

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro A300-1GT. The problem is that the camera does not work. When I start software it writes that I should restart camera or computer. I'm having Windows 7 and I serched the internet for solutions but I find just a discusions with the same problem without solutions.
    Sory for may bad English.

    Hi
The cam is not listed in device manager; neither as unknown device nor as USB device?
Well, I read here in the forum that internal webcam is connected to the USB controller on the motherboard and sometimes the connection is loose and therefore the cam cannot be recognized by system.
I think in such case the notebook needs to be disassembled and the connection should be checked. But this seems to be a job for technicians

  • Satellite Pro A300-28R - Windows starts up with wrong display resolution

OK so I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro A300-28R with Windows 7 64 bit and an ATI Mobility Radeon 3470 HD graphics card.
I recently connected my laptop to a TV via the S-video connection. This worked fine. The problem is that ever since then every time I start my laptop Windows starts with the S-video display resolution of 600x800.
I have tried changing the settings in both Control Panel and using the ATI CCC, having both selected and applied these settings but each time Windows starts now it boots with the above display resolution.
Following this I have also uninstalled and reinstalled both my display driver and the Toshiba Value Added package but the same problem persists. I have searched with Google about this problem and haven't been able to find anything useful.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi thanks for your responses! Originally I used the method of closing the laptop screen while connected to the s-video and then opening the screen and logging into Windows. This then automatically detects the display and changes to that output. To get out of this you can do either do the reverse or pres Fn+ F5 to undo. This has worked perfectly for me before with VGA connections. Its only since connecting to s-video that now no matter what, every time the laptop starts up even when it is not connected to any external display, it loads with the resolution 800x600. This is not the first time I have used s-video, but it is the first time I have had this result after doing it.
Interestingly if I change to the appropriate resolution and do a restart. The system restarts and loads to the logon screen and then into Windows in the resolution I specified before the restart but then after fully loading Windows it then changes to 800x600. It is as if the laptop is detecting that there is something connected to the s-video when there is not. I have read a fix for this whereby you can go into the system registry and turn off the feature for automatically detecting displays but I use external displays frequently and this is not a satisfactory solution. This worked perfectly before.

  • Satellite Pro A300-1E7 - cannot start cam software

I have purchased the Satellite Pro A300-1E7.
Webcam is not functioning properly in MSN messenger video call.
Am having similar problems to the previous posting except I am using Zonealarm.
I think Zonealarm challenged cec_main.exe in a similar way.
I have tried to follow the instructions on here but without much success.
I removed Camera Assistant SOftware and re-installed the driver but doesnt appear to have improved things.
Now c:\program files\ camera assistant software for Toshiba has disappeared altogether and the the camera assistant panel no longer appears on the side of the desktop.
    Any ideas please?

    Hi
I used the Zonealarm is the past and I was not really satisfied because this software locked everything and most applications didnt work properly even after new configuration! Finally I removed this software and I noticed further advantage; my notebook boots much faster!!
I think this software would lock the cam software too.
    > Now c:\program files\ camera assistant software for Toshiba has disappeared altogether and the camera assistant panel no longer appears on the side of the desktop.
This would mean that the software was removed and was not installed properly.
But to be sure, check in control panel -> Software (add & remove programs) if the webcam software is installed.
Ive got the internal Chicony cam too and its working fine in connection with Skype software. I didnt test MSN but I dont see any serious reasons why it shouldnt work.
In my opinion you should firstly remove the zonealarm. Then clean the OS using CCleaner. Finally download the webcam software again and reinstall it!
The webcam toolbar is not always visible on desktop.
It would appear only if you move the mouse cursor to the place where the webcam toolbar was hidden.

  • Satellite Pro A300 crashes with blank screen

I have a Satellite Pro A300, AMD CPU, ATI graphics, Vista.
The system worked fine for a year but a few months ago it started crashing, the screen went blank, not blue, anything running, like music, stopped. This can happen after several hours or minutes, or even whilst it is re-booting. All my software is up-to-date, both from Microsoft and Toshiba. I have rebuilt my system from scratch and the symptoms came back.
At first I thought this might be a heat problem but I have monitored this but I don't think this is it. It has crashed seconds after leaving sleep mode when it has not had a chance to warm up.
    Anybody got any ideas?
    Simon

    Hi buddy,
Theoretically it could be an overheating problem so the screen went blank due built in overheat protection...
You should try to clean your notebook using compressed air spray. This could blow out the dust from the cooling ventilators and therefore its not necessary to disassemble the notebook.
In your case I would recommend reading this article:

  • Satellite Pro A300-1DZ does not find HDD after BIOS update

    Hi everyone,
I have recently purchased a secondhand Satellite Pro A300 1DZ.
Put a fresh copy of Windows xp home on it.
I then went on to install all the drivers needed from Toshiba's own site and at the end of this I thought it may be a good idea to update the bios????
OH DEAR what a big mistake.
Now the netbook will NOT start windows.
So I thought thats ok I will just start from the begginning and reinstall windows again, but it is telling me it cannot find a hard disk on my netbook?
    aaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I am going crazy,
Could someone please tell me how to fix this? Thank you x

    Hi
I think the option SATA mode has been set to AHCI and therefore the Windows XP cannot find the HDD.
This is because of the SATA controller.
You can set the SATA mode from AHCI mode to compatible mode and this will allows you to install the Win XP on the notebook without the usage of SATA drivers.
So, youve got two options if you want to install Win XP:
AHCI mode -> but you have to include SATA drivers
Compatible mode -> Win XP installation possible without the SATA drivers

  • Satellite Pro A300-1A8 Vista system restore not working

I wanted to use system restore due to attempting to reconfigure administrator rights, its somehow deleted all my shortcuts on my menu and messed about with a few things.
However when i try to use system restore (i have attempted to use it in safe mode, via cmd promp, both together and normal boot), yet all seem to stay hanging in the same green page where it reads something along the lines of 'system is initialising restore etc' (spending 45 mins on this page before i get fed up and shut down the computer). I have tried using different restore points but the same occurs. It like its not working at all.
Can anyone help with this please?
My laptop is a Satellite Pro A300-1A8.

    Hi
You mean the Vista tool which can be found in (Start button -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> System Restore) does not work and you cannot set back the Vista to the early time point?
Well, usually there is no much to do to restore the OS to the early time point you have to star the system restore tool and have to choose the restore point. Then everything should run automatically.
If this doesnt work then something is messed up as you said in your posting above somehow deleted all your shortcuts on my menu and messed about with a few things possibly the OS has been messed to.
Try to clean the OS using the free software for example CCLeaner. I use it too. Its great. Repair and clean the OS and check if its possible to use the system restore tool again.
I found also this MS page:

  • Satellite Pro A300 - WiFi is 50% slower on XP than on Vista

I noticed that WiFi transfer is slower on Windows XP Pro than with original Vista installed on the same machine.
I tested the issue on Toshiba Satellite Pro A300-1NT - is it possible or my Toshiba is not working propely?

I dont feel I have already checked - btw I have got 2 same models of A300-1NT
the one with XP recovered and second one with Vista onboard - the speed I have checked on different speedtesting websites (like speedtest.pl or dsl.cz) and I can feel the difference downloading te same things as well.
After recovering XP from original CD with SP3 installed or without SP3 the result was clear - 50%.
The system is clean with no additional band - consuming activities.
I have checked RJ Ethernet connection and there was no such issue.
i upgraded Wlan directly from intel website with noo results.
I use 802.11g standard with more aggresive settings than default.

  • Satellite Pro A300 - Overheating

    Hello,
It has been a year and a half since I got my Satellite Pro A300. Just a week ago it started overheating very badly. At low CPU usage it maintains its regular temperature of 55 - 60C (given the hot summer weather).
However if I try to do anything CPU heavy, the temperature gets to 100C in a matter of minutes and the laptop shuts down. The fan is working, except that it does not seem to generate as powerful air stream as usual, which made me think that it was clogged. I disassembled the laptop, but I could not get to the cooling unit because of the three cables connecting the motherboard to the plastic shell, which have white T shaped connectors that for the live of me I could not pull out even a little bit. Nevertheless, I cleaned what I could with compressed air, and a little dust was cleared, but the fan/radiator did not look clogged at all.
After putting it back together there is no noticeable difference.
I am certain that this is a new phenomenon as I've been running the machine in much hotter weather in worse conditions with CPU loads close to 100% with no trouble. I checked all settings, just in case something had toned down the fan, but the power saver utility is set to "Maximum Performance".
I would appreciate any ideas and help, even just tips on how to disconnect the motherboard cables.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi buddy,
I agree with the user above: Cleaning procedure from time to time is really important and if compressed air spray doesnt help it must be done by professional people from an authorized service provider. They can disassemble the whole notebook and clean every part well. You can find a list of service providers here:
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Support & Downloads > Find an authorized service provider
Notebook disassembling is not easy so it should be done from professional people. Just ask the guys for help ;)

  • Satellite Pro A300 - Cursor constantly moves when external mouse connected

    Hi there
I have a Satellite Pro A300. When I attach a mouse directly by USB the cursor is constantly moving. I also have a mouse attached via a Toshiba docking station and that works perfectly.
It doesn't matter which USB port I use or whether the laptop is connected to the docking station or not, or whether it is running on mains or battery power.
I thought it was the mouse that was the problem so I went and bought a new one but the problem is persisting.
Actually, while I have been writing this post, it has stopped doing it and then started again! Very frustrating.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks
    Susib

    Hi
How about the touchpad does the cursor moves and jumps using the touchpad?
Try to disable the touchpad while using the USB mouse check if you can notice a difference
    How about BIOS?
Do you have the latest version installed?

  • Satellite Pro A300 PSAJ1E doesn't wake up from standby correctly

I have a new Toshiba Satellite Pro A300/ PSAJ1E - 018006EN with similar problems too.

  • Satellite Pro A300 PSAG9E. Should I keep it or not?

    Hello
I have just bought a Toshiba Satellite Pro A300 PSAG9E. It came pre-installed with Vista, and also an upgrade DVD to windows 7 professional (which I have installed).
I tried starting up the machine this morning, however for some reason it wouldn 't boot. All that happened was that the initial toshiba screen would appear, followed by a frozen black screen (showing an underscore in the top left corner).
The thing is that I seem to have been able to solve this issue, but I just don't understand how/why this happened!
The issue seemed to be related to the battery. At first I was trying to boot the laptop (with only the battery connected) however it would not start. I dont think this has anything to do with the amount of charge in the battery, as it did have more than enough in it. I then tried booting it with just the power cable (and no battery). For some reason this seemed to do the trick, and the laptop was able to boot. The laptop now also boots when both battery and cable attached.
    Why is this happening?
The reason I am interested in finding out, is because this laptop has given me a few problems already. The laptop has also been bought very recently, so I can still return it for a refund (which I am seriously considering!).
What should I do guys? Any help/advice you could give about this would be very much appreciated.
    Thank you
    Jay

    >All that happened was that the initial toshiba screen would appear, followed by a frozen black screen (showing an underscore in the top left corner).
The blinking underscore in the left corner means that the BIOS battery was empty or something wrong with the HDD (possibly BIOS didnt find the right booting source)
I recommend accessing the BIOS and to set it to the default. Save the changes and try to boot the unit again.
You should also keep the notebook connected to the mains for about 24 hours and the notebook should be ON as well.
This will help to charge the CMOS battery.

  • Satellite Pro A300-28V - My bluescreens disappeared when BIOS was upgraded

I am curious about this. The machine is an Satellite Pro A300-28V with Vista32/Win7.
Had problems with bluescreen dumps referring to "iaStor.sys". I was just about to send the laptop in for repair when I made this last effort to solve the problem. Upgraded BIOS from 1.9 to 2.1-Win.
Suddenly my system image succeeded!! Even to an Iomega home network HDD. No hang-ups!
No bluescreen dumps even at "cold" start-up (after a night off)!
At the moment I let the computer home in sleeping mode while I am at work. Let's see if it managed a day without dumps.
What is the technical difference between BIOS 1.9 and 2.1? Any idea if it has anything with iaStor.sys to do?

    Hi mate
This is really good news that your BSOD displeasured after BIOS update.
The BIOS give instructions to power-on self test (POST) and provide basic information about how to handle some notebook components, like HDD, ODD, memory which are needed to load the operating system.
Who knows, what has been changed in the update but the main thing is that everything work and the update solve your BSOD
    >Any idea if it has anything with iaStor.sys to do?
iaStor.sys is a part of the SATA driver which is need for recognizing the HDD using the AHCI mode.
