Satellite Pro A300 (PSAG9E) - After BIOS update Windows doesn't boot

Reboot went fine after BIOS upgrade and Windows XP logo appears loads for few seconds then beep and reboot - last known good or start Windows normally same effect.
Rebooting back to start again - this is a brand new laptop - using BIOS from Toshibas official download site.
Pretty annoyed as trying to figure out how to refresh or downgrade BIOS.
Have taken battery and RAM out to see if I can clear it?
Any ideas anyone?

Hi
Hmm this is very strange usually if something would went wrong during the BIOS update procedure then your notebook would not boot up.
It would be dead.
But in your case the notebook boots up but just the OS does not start properly
Maybe you should try to reinstall the OS again?
I see you are using the Win XP I think the Vista was preinstalled. Am I right?
Hmm. in my opinion you should try to boot from the Toshiba recovery disk and should try to reinstall the OS in order to check if this issue could be solved.

  • Satellite Pro L300: BSOD after BIOS update

    Hi
after update the Bios of Satellite Pro L300, the windows not start!
Its show the blue dead screen!
    What can i do?

    Hi
Are you able to access the BIOS settings?
Im not quite sure why this BSOD appears but possibly the SATA mode settings have been changed after BIOS update
Usually the SATA mode should be set to AHCI if the SATA drivers are installed.
But if the SATA drivers are not included the SATA mode should be set to compatible.
    Please check this!
Furthermore you could set the BIOS to the default settings and could try to boot the machine again.

  • Satellite Pro P200-15W: After Bios Update 1.90 fan incredibly noisy

Hi, I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro P200-15W, I've recently done a BIOS update to version 1.9 and seems to have been a big mistake :-/.
After restarting the computer I had a lot of software deconfig and now the fan has become incredibly noisy.
I have the problem with the Toshiba Vista registration software, I get this message: "Vista registration has stopped working". I've read other threads, I don't want to just disable it from the start.ini file, I'd like to actually solve the problem if there's a way.
Is there a way to change the fans configuration? I've read a Toshiba post about another notebook model that had the same problem of noisy fans after a BIOS update, they gave to that a solution with a new version of BIOS, is there a way to reverse the BIOS to the previous version? (will the restore CD be helpful for that purpose?)
    Cheers
    Edgard

    Hi
It seems the fan table was changed and renewed in the new BIOS version and therefore the fans run ofttimes.
Why the fan table was changed?
Well, usually something like this is necessary to improve decrease the internal temperature while the CPU and GPU are running with full performance.
This helps to prevent the hardware from damage!!
Usually the Recovery CD formats the whole HDD (partitions too) and installs only the Toshiba image on the notebooks HDD.
The image contains the OS, drivers and additional software and has nothing to do with the BIOS update.
But you can try to recover the notebook to see if the software issues like "Vista registration" can be solved!
If you want to reverse the BIOS you have to contact the ASP in your country!!!
Sorry but this everything what I can suggest!
    Best regards

  • Satellite L300 (PSLB8E) - After BIOS update it doesn't boot again

    Hello there..
Please help me to overcome this issue.
I have downloaded the latest BIOS for my Satellite L300 PSLB8E. The previous BIOS was 1.90 but I was facing some nework related error so I thought upgrading BIOS may help to solve it. I have download a new BIOS which is exe file 2.10, its installed successfully and then shut down but never booted again. I have tried to boot it many time. I have tried all the keys. I can only see one power led and two battery light.
I dont know what to do now. I have a recovery disk but it also not working. I'm stuck.Ii had a bunch of emails to reply I'm lost now.
    Please help me someone.

    Hi dhaval2000in,
Unfortunately I think the case is clear: Something went wrong due BIOS update and now your notebook cant start anymore :(
The Toshiba recovery disk will not help you because it doesnt contain any BIOS reflashing programs it contains only a recover image of Windows with all drivers and tools.
In my opinion you have to contact an authorized service provider in your country to get rid of this because the guys have to reflash the ROM module.
Im sure you can clarify this problem with the technicians and then you can use your notebook again :)

  • Satellite M100 - After BIOS update it doesn't boot anymore

    Hey everybody :)
BIOS problem: I was updating *BIOS* by WinFlash and my laptop "freezed" so BIOS is DAMAGED. Laptop does't boot up.
I was updating my XP laptop to *BIOS 3.00* version.
    How to repare BIOS?

    Hey mate,
I agree with Akuma and I think in this case you can do nothing. If the notebook froze during BIOS update I think the ROM module is now destroyed and must be reflashed or exchanged. In this case only an ASP can help you.
On the Toshiba website you can find a list of ASPs and you should contact the nearest one. Speak with the technicians and they will try to help you.
    Good luck! :)

  • Satellite Pro A300 PSAG9E. Should I keep it or not?

    Hello
I have just bought a Toshiba Satellite Pro A300 PSAG9E. It came pre-installed with Vista, and also an upgrade DVD to windows 7 professional (which I have installed).
I tried starting up the machine this morning, however for some reason it wouldn 't boot. All that happened was that the initial toshiba screen would appear, followed by a frozen black screen (showing an underscore in the top left corner).
The thing is that I seem to have been able to solve this issue, but I just don't understand how/why this happened!
The issue seemed to be related to the battery. At first I was trying to boot the laptop (with only the battery connected) however it would not start. I dont think this has anything to do with the amount of charge in the battery, as it did have more than enough in it. I then tried booting it with just the power cable (and no battery). For some reason this seemed to do the trick, and the laptop was able to boot. The laptop now also boots when both battery and cable attached.
    Why is this happening?
The reason I am interested in finding out, is because this laptop has given me a few problems already. The laptop has also been bought very recently, so I can still return it for a refund (which I am seriously considering!).
What should I do guys? Any help/advice you could give about this would be very much appreciated.
    Thank you
    Jay

    >All that happened was that the initial toshiba screen would appear, followed by a frozen black screen (showing an underscore in the top left corner).
The blinking underscore in the left corner means that the BIOS battery was empty or something wrong with the HDD (possibly BIOS didnt find the right booting source)
I recommend accessing the BIOS and to set it to the default. Save the changes and try to boot the unit again.
You should also keep the notebook connected to the mains for about 24 hours and the notebook should be ON as well.
This will help to charge the CMOS battery.

  • Yoga 2 Pro Went DEAD After BIOS Update

Had a horrible experience .. with good ending ... when upgrading Bios for my Yoga 2 Pro. So I'd like to share with others. I bought my Yoga 2 Pro last June (Man 3/22/14) and love it! But, it had problem restarting automatically after Windows Update. At least 3 times (That I can recall. Did not use it briefly from June 30 - July 22), the screen reminding user not to shutdown after Windows the update would stay on until I manually powered it down and restarted it. Last July 23, it did again after Windows Update. Searched Lenovo web-site and found a Bios Update for Yoga 2 Pro (Win 8.1 64-bit). Downloaded the new Bios (dated July 11, 2014) and went through the instruction striclty. First of, the screen responses were not at all as detailed in the instruction. So, the instruction is not very good.  Received 2 warnings: Make sure the laptop is connected to the charger during the procedure, and the bios is for Yoga 2 Pro ONLY do not install it on any other models. As part fo the procedure, the laptop switched to a Bios Utility program. Again received the aforementioned warnings. Update progress was shown on the screen. All of a sudden, then screen went blank and the keyboard stayed lit. Waited for about 30 minutes. Still the same. Press and held the power button down (not sure for how long)  ... nothing!   Just no response from the latop.  Called Tech support. She (the tech support lady) said that ... it is not recommended for user to go through the BIOS upgrade! What?  Then why post it on Lenovo.com? She also said that I should not have downloaded software from the internet and upgrade, especially for BIOS. Well, I told her that I did not download the program from ANY web-site, I downloaded it from LENOVO.com. She said further that looks like the BIOS update had damaged my mother-board, there is a problem with Win 8 & 8.1, and because it was my own doing ... the damage would not be covered by the warranty!  Considering the circumstance, Lenovo would waiver the initial $99 fee to assess the damage, but I would have to pay for any repair costs. In any case, I was so fumed at Lenove Tech Support responses that I hung up. close my laptop and put it aside. Almost 24 hours later, when the battery drained completely, I connected the laptop to the charger, press the power button to turn it on ... and ... to my surprise, the laptop booted and everything came back normal! The last (7/25) auto restart seemed to go well. Not sure if the auto restart problem is fixed with the new BIOS, but it seems to be. Time will tell.

Thank you for your posting.  I searched the net when I ran into the problem, but could not find any help.  Obviously, my search was not exhaustive. I was trying to make the following:    a.  Lenov should be more specific in their BIOS update instruction.  Their instruction was ... far ... far from reality.      b.  Lenovo tech assistance was ... not much help.  After listening to the description of my prolem, the tech lady immediately said that the operation must have damaged the mother-board, and that the operation is not ... recommended.  No guidance on draining the battery a or how to restart the machine, etc...  What I received was confusing that caused more panic!   As a note, I had done BIOS upgrade on DELL PC/laptop before w/o any problem.  I fully understand the implication of a BIOS upgrade, but trusted that manufacturer fully tested whatever that they post in their web-site.  Oh well, live ... and learn!  All in all, the Yoga 2 Pro is a great machine and I love it!  Hope that anyone who runs into the same problem will be able to get the needed help in time! Cheers,

  • Satellite Pro A200 - question about BIOS update

I have a Satellite Pro A200 (PSAE7E) with Windows Vista and XP that were installed recently.
In Toshiba's driver page (BIOS update) says:
"This Bios is only compatible for Notebooks with Windows Vista!!!!"
    1) Should I update my BIOS(1.4) or is it going to be a problem for my XP windows?
    2) Has anyone try it?
    3) Is there documentation about the BIOS updates (bug fixes, etc)?

    Hi madmak
I think the description should be clear if the BIOS description says that the BIOS is only compatible for notebooks with Windows Vista then you cannot use it with Windows XP.
I think nobody should check if an Vista BIOS would be run on the XP notebook because mostly a wrong BIOS can damage the motherboards ROM on in your case some notebook features will not run correctly.
I didnt find also any reports about any fixed BIOS bugs it seems something like that was not published on Toshiba European site.
best regads and happy new year ;)

  • Satellite Pro L100 - Crash during Bios update

    Hi
    I own a Satellite Pro L100 (PSLA4E)
From the Toshiba site I downloaded the BIOS update. Whilst installing it I read that it needed power cable plugged in. Before I could cancel it to get the cable it had started and then froze! The computer stopped working and so I turned it off! Since then I have read that, that was a very big mistake!
When turning it on the fan turns on and I can hear the cd drive spinning etc. After 15 seconds, which the screen is blank, the computer starts beeping!
Is there any way of fixing this?
    Thanks very much
    Rich

    Hi Richard
Looks not good buddy according to your description something went wrong during the update procedure and now the ROM module was not flashed correctly.
Maybe you area lucky man and the motherboard is not damage but only the Rom module must be flashed again.
Unfortunately, this must be done by ASP technician. You will have to contact the ASP in your country for a help.
Good luck and have a nice day

    Hi Lukas
I agree with Joao. You will not find any public documents about such changes in the BIOS. I assume this information is not for a everyone.
However, I think your early BIOS updates going wrong because either you have used a wrong BIOS or a wrong BIOS update procedure.
You should know that there could be more different units and some models use different BIOS. Anyway, I think if you have no problems with your unit so I would recommend updating anything. I use my notebook for about 5 years and I have never updated the BIOS on it because it runs great.
You know that the BIOS upgrade is a little bit risky and therefore if you dont need the new version you shouldnt update it.

  • Satellite C660: no WLAN after BIOS update

    I own a C660-115 (PSCOLE) model laptop.
Since I have performed a BIOS update (to vs 1.40) my WLAN is not functioning anymore.
I've made sure the drivers for the WLAN-card (Realtek RTL8188CE) are very much up to date.
Windows says the WLAN-card is ok ('device working properly'), but no connection can be made.
My cabled connection to the internet is working fine.
Any suggestions? Any clearcut solutions? Please?

    Dear all,
    > Last option is to reinstall OS and test functionality with factory settings.
Speaking of last options, this definitely is one (and not one i am going to follow).
So, just for the record: problem not solved, mystery lingers on.
    Thanks for all the suggestions.
    > Why you didnt post here question: should I update BIOS on my notebook?
    > Believe me most of he peple would write NO. Dont change anything if the system runs properly.
Funny question .... I definitely do not want to get in a rant, but I might ask in return: why is Toshiba then offering an updated BIOS version for my model laptop, and making sure that i pay notice to this update through their pre-installed 'Toshiba Bulletin Board? "Adds increased functionality ....." , that's what it said.
So, to orund up: if there are no other options than a reinstall, consider this topic closed.

  • After BIOS update I can't boot in EUFI anymore

Hello everyone, I recently replaced my HDD for a SSD and installed Windows 8.1. Then I wanted to install the drivers because some features did not work. So I went to this:
http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/ideapad-z-series-laptops/ideapad-z580 and started at the top. I installed the 64 bits BIOS update for Windows 7 and 8. I followed the instructions... At first I installed 5fcn95ww_public 64bit.exe. The laptop restarted and after that I was not able to boot my laptop anymore . I coulnd even boot from a USB to reinstall windwos (I thought this might help but this BIOS problem has noting to do with windows)
I am able to go in to the BIOS and change settings... I tried to reset the BIOS but it did not help. Then I changed the boot mode in "legancy support". Now it is able to boot from my SSD. But I want it to boot from in UEFI mode.
Please help me. I think I just destroyed my laptop. (I'm sorry for my bad English)

Hi mezian, and welcome to the Lenovo User Community!
That's not right . I suggest you return the laptop and exchange, or call support to get it repaired.
    I don't work for Lenovo. I'm a crazy volunteer!

  • Satellite C660D-117 dead after Bios update

Yesterday I tried to execute bios upgrade but it got stuck in step 3 (of 27 I think).
I left it as this for more than an hour, nothing happened.
I also tried to cancel it or press CTRL+ALT+DEL but the machine was completely frozen.
It did not react when I pulled out the power cord.
Basically the only thing that I could do was to remove battery that I did. PROBLEM - now the laptop is completely dead. Not like others were saying that it boots. It does not do absolutely anything - even there are no LED lights on when I plug the power cord.
I tried to remove the battery and hold the power button for a while in order to reset the CMOS, but no luck.
It does not react at all.
Do you think it is solvable by flashing the CMOS again (if it is even possible) or do I have to purchase a new motherboard?
    Thanks

    > Do you think it is solvable by flashing the CMOS again (if it is even possible) or do I have to purchase a new motherboard?
Its difficult to say in most cases it should be possible to bring the notebook back to life flashing the ROM module (where BIOS is stored) once again using an crisis disk.
I dont know if this would help you but take a look into this thread:

  • Pbms w T400 after bios update: long time to boot, TPM&internet connect pbms

    Hello,
I have a T400 thinkpad, type 7417 that I bought in the US in Nov 2008 (it was downgraded from vista to xp). In November 2011 the computer was running slow so I decided to clean it up a bit and then do the maintenance recommended by the thinkvantage program. I proceeded to do all the smaller updates and the last one that was recommended was updating the BIOS (from what I understood). I left the computer doing these updates overnight, making sure it was plugged into a power source as specified by the update.
The next morning I found that my computer took 5-10minutes to start up and when it did, the screen resolution was altered as if it was in safe mode or something…I removed the HD and saved my data, then tried to use the Rescue and Recovery program to revert to factory settings. Although it seems that the factory settings were indeed restored I still have many problems with the computer. 1. it takes 5-10min to start (blank screen pre-windows logo) 2. it gives me 2 error messages once it has booted: 2a. "Tvttcsd application has encountered a pbm and needs to close." 2b. "There was a pbm connecting to the tpm (security devie) on this computer. It is possible that anti-virus or firewall software is blocking the connection. A missing or disabled driver could also cause this problem. Please refer to the online documentation for more information." 3. it cannot connect to the internet (either wifi or ethernet) 4. Ad-aware tells me it detects a malicious program running but cannot seem to clear it. I have seen several threads about these problems but cannot figure out if they are all connected or not. Before touching anything I was hoping for some help on how to proceed - I am no expert but I can follow instructions I am currently running avast on the computer to hopefully get rid of whatever viruses there may be and see if that can solve the problem. All help is really really welcome please!!!! lore

When I try to look into the Windows firewall I get the following error message:
"Cannot start Windows firewall/internet connection sharing service."
Not sure if both of these are related or not. Any ideas? Would re-installing windows help?
Thanks so much for your help! lore
Did you "optimize" your computer with "Tuneup utilities"? This might cause problems like that.
Also check, whether the services "Windows Firewall" is set to start "Automatic" and running.
Third party desktop-firewall like Zonealarm, Kaspersky or Symantec Internet Security also can cause that problem. In that case remove it including all policies, test the connection and re-install it. Activate training-mode and disallow automatic blocking unknown outgoing connections.

  • Satellite Pro A300 - I get the "Windows search" if I left click any folder

I have just purchased a Satellite Pro A300 and downgraded it to Windows XP SP3.
When I left-click any folder icon on my hard drive I get the 'Windows Search' window displayed instead of opening the folder. When I right-click any folder icon, the first item in the menu (bolded) is 'Search'.
How can I change the order of these menu items so as 'Open' is the first item?
Can I remove (Control Panel-Add or Remove Programs) the Windows Search facility without affecting any software I have loaded?
Is having the Windows Search facility installed the likely cause of my problem?
    Thanks,
    Murray

Have just solved my own problem:
    1. The order of items in the shortcut menu for Folders can be changed by updating the actions for specified file types in the Folder Options Menu. Select +Folder Options+ from the +Tools+ menu of any folder, select +File Types+ and scroll down to *Folder*. Click *Advanced* then click *New* and add *Open* with *Explorer* as the program to use. Click *OK* and *Close* and bingo! Appears the order of the short-cut menu in XP is Open before search, but in XP Pro is Search followed by Open/Explore.
    2. The Windows Search utility can be safely removed despite the warning issued - the Microsoft website indicates the warning is simply a generic warning and it is highly unlikely that removal will affect any software installed since the Search utility was loaded.
    3. The Windows Search utility was NOT the cause of this problem.
Trust this might save others the hours of research I had to do to find this solution ...
