Satellite Pro C50 - no webcam app

Hi
Just bought a Satellite Pro C50, there's a built in webcam but no App to use it ? drivers show in Device Manager and will update but nothing there to use the camera.
Also can't find any reference to this on the Support website, no device drivers, no s/w ?? Only reference online I can see is that the App should be in Tools & Utilities.
How can I check the device works ? any ideas please ?

For Win8 or Win8.1 there is no some Toshiba specific webcam tool. All you can use is standard Windows application integrated in operating system.
More info how to use it you can find here .
If you need more help about support on Toshiba pages please post here full notebook model name or model number.
Just small tip: create recovery media (DVD or USB) as soon as possible. How to do this you can read in users manuals document and don't start with some updates, especially not with BIOS updates.

  • Satellite Pro C50-A - Microsoft Office 2013 apps crash when opened

I recently purchased a Satellite Pro C50-A PSCG7A-01X01V. I installed Windows 8.1 and then installed Office 2013. Unfortunately when I start one of the Office 2013 apps it immediately crashes with an error message eg: "Microsoft Word has stopped working". I have tried starting the applications in safe mode (eg excel /safe) however the same error occurs. Is anyone able to assist with this problem?

I have managed to resolve the issue by using Microsoft's facility to 'Repair Office Programs'. Refer to http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/project-help/repair-or-remove-office-2010-HA010357402.aspx

  • Re: How to install Windows 8.1 on new Satellite Pro C50?

I've just purchased a TOSHIBA SATELLITE PRO C50 which came with Windows 7 Pre-installed.
Upon starting the system for the first time, I simply shut it down and put the Windows 8.1 Media in the Optical Drive (disk 1 of 4) and then went into the recovery wizard, and may have chosen the wrong option, as I completely wiped the hard drive and partitions.
Now that I've done that, I cannot find the way to install the Windows 8.1 Pro Media from the 4 DVDs provided. I cannot find the correct option to do this. I've changed the boot option in the system settings by pressing F2 upon boot, so it reads from the DVD drive. The DVD starts up but then takes me into a system recovery area, which is no good as I've completely wiped the system.
How can I just simply now install the provided Windows 8.1 Pro onto the clean system now?
    Thanks for any advice.

At first I would like to know which notebook model do you have exactly. If possible please post the whole model number (C50-xxxxx). I just want to check specification for this notebook model.
Have you bought this notebook model as brand new product and originally boxed?
Anyway, if you have original recovery installation discs for it you should be able to install it without some problems. Start your notebook and press F12 to enter boot menu. When this menu wil be shown on the screen, put disc 1 into optical disc drive, choose CD/DVD drive in menu and press ENTER.
ODD should start to read disc and recovery wizard will be shown o the screen. Choose option to install out-of-box/factory settings and just follow menu on the screen.

    Win 8.1 Toshiba Satellite Pro C50 - A

I would suggest you to use some disk checking tool and see if the reading/writing of data is working fine from all the disks.
If its fine then you should talk to Toshiba Support on this.

i put my old hard drive back in and made a recovery flash disk and its been stuck at 26% for like an hour now...

  • Need new motherboard for Satellite Pro C50-A-1E0

My son's Satellite Pro C50-A-1E0 went completely t*ts up. I think it is a common fault and requires a bios reset or something. Anyway I'm thinking a new motherboard will do the trick.
Any help as to which motherboard to get that is compatible and would this actually help?
    Thanks.

    Hi nessie
It is not easy to find new motherboard and believe me it is pretty expensive so you can buy new notebook.
What you can do is to contact nearest Toshiba service provider at first. Explain the situation and ask if they can help you with this. They are also able to obtain new motherboard for you.
Addresses and phone numbers you can find on http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/generic/ASP_SUPPORT/

  • Re: Satellite Pro C50 - Can't install Windows 8

    Hi.
I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro c50 with Windows 7 preinstalled.
It comes with 2 DVD's containing Windows 8.
I have tried to upgrade to Windows 8 (following the instructions included in the manual: BIOS changes, etc) but I cant install it.
After booting from the DVD, it doesnt appear the Windows 8 install utility, but the Windows 7 recovery options .
    Could you please help me?
    Thanks in advance,
    Sergio

    Exactly the same problem.
    Toshiba Portege R-930.
Comes with Win 7 preinstalled and 2 CDs with image of Win 8 (Win 8 sticker on bottom of the laptop).
Followed the directions in the leaflet to upgrade to Win 8 (change in BIOS, etc.) like the user above.
It gets only to a blue screen with two options:
    1) Toshiba recovery - a frightening black screen with warning that every data will be lost) and
    2) System recovery, getting nowhere but to "switch off computer".
At one point got the message that the disc is locked.
Gave up, returned safely to Win 7.
If someone could explain how to do this properly,
    Thanks

  • Satellite Pro P300 (PSPC5E) - Webcam driver open fail on Windows 7

I've installed the RC of Windows 7 64 Bit on my Satellite Pro P300-PSPC5E and I'm experiencing problems with the configuration of my webcam and microphone.
I've tried to install the camera assistant software, 64-bit (windows vista) to configure the webcam but I keep getting an error with 'Webcam driver open fail. Please restart camera or computer.' neither of a camera or computer restart work. I do get picture in Skype but I can not edit settings or so (dark picture) and the microphone is way more silent then it was on windows XP, although it's set on the maximum sound.
Is there a solution for this problem? I hope so :)

    Hi
I think there is no solution for this problem at the moment because you are using a Release Candidate of Windows 7 and at the moment there are no official drivers for Windows 7 available.
You have already tried the Windows Vista driver so thats all what you can do. Alternative you visit the Toshiba US page (http://www.csd.toshiba.com) and search for Windows 7 beta driver. Maybe it works.
    Good luck! :)

  • Satellite Pro C50-A-154 - battery issues after automatic update

    Hi everyone!
First of all, i have to apologize for my bad English if it is not as good as should be..., after this, i could start to tell all of you what happened to me in the last few weeks...
I have an a C50-A-154 Toshiba Satellite Pro, and I use it for some home stuff like watching some youtube videos, listen to music, and that kind of things than a normal user do.
A few weeks ago, a Toshiba Tempro Alert remind me that there were some software updates avaliables to download for my laptop, so I installed them, I normally unplug my battery when I have the AC cord plugged, so, i didn't realize after a week after that my battery was not recognized like it should be for my toshiba.
At first, the windows said that it was totally charged and no need to continue charging, so I unplugged the AC cord, and the laptop shutted down (with battery plugged and seems so be 100% charged).
When I plugged again the AC cord, windows said that the battery was empty, and said, PLugged but not charging...
At the same time, a new update from toshiba was released, this time was for the bios, so i though that it will probabbly fix the problem with the battery, so, I updated the BIOS and then windows said that the battery was full charged again... i couldn't believe....!!
But the system still goes down when yo unplugg the AC cord, and now de battery says again that it is empty..
Yesterday was a new update for Bios, so I give another chance, but nothing has changed.... i can't use the battery, and I have no warranty, so I do not know what to do...
I have read many posts about problems battery lately, in europe forums and US forums.... maybe it's a software problem??? Maybe the boys from toshiba have no idea about this problem??
    Thanks for your answers!
    Ruckmess

Thanks for this late reply ;)
Of course its always pity if something does not work properly.
If my solution did not work, I recommend you to replace the battery.
    > and i'm totally sure that my problems started when I updated the laptop....
hmm... i think the update has nothing to do with your issue... it could be a simple bad luck but from my point of few the battery might be damaged.
You should try to order new, comatible battery and should check how the unit would handle new, good working battery.

  • Satellite Pro C50: Installation of Win 7 using UEFI boot mode

I want to install Windows 7 Pro 64 bit on Sat Pro C50 (downgrade if you like - supplied with Win 8), but I want it UEFI booting, with GPT partitioning.
I am happy to wipe existing partitions if that solves problem.
    I _have_ disabled Secure Boot.
    Booting Win 8 install DVD works;
Setting CSM boot and booting from Win 7 DVD works - but this isn't what I want.
Setting back to UEFI boot and boot Win7 install media - locks up at "Starting Windows" screen.
Media _is_ good, works OK on other manufacturers' PCs.
I am not convinced this is a Microsoft problem.

    Hi
On Toshiba notebooks where UEFI BIOS is available, its necessary to disable secure boot and to change the boot mode to CSM in order to boot from external sources and to install other systems than Win 8 or Win 8.1
Some workarounds in the internet describes the installation of Windows 7 in UEFI mode but I doubt this will be possible on Toshiba notebooks since the BIOS is different and modified for each notebook series.

  • Satellite Pro C50-A-1E6: Windows 7 Pro to Windows 8.1 Pro Upgrade

    Hello,
My laptop came with Windows 7 Pro pre-installed and also came with the disks to upgrade to Windows 8.1 Pro, when I reboot the laptop to the optical drive with the Windows 8.1 Pro disk in there doesn't seem to be any options for upgrading Windows rather it is just the generic tools for recovering/backing up the laptop and installing Windows 8.1 Pro isn't mentioned anywhere.
Am I missing something? Do I need to format the laptop in order for it to pick up the Windows 8.1 set-up process?
The laptop seems to be picking up the Windows 8.1 Pro disk as the interface is similar to that of Windows 8 (when choosing region/keyboard) but as I mentioned it just defaults to repairing the existing installation with no options to upgrade.
    Cheers,
    Paul

    >Am I missing something? Do I need to format the laptop in order for it to pick up the Windows 8.1 set-up process?
Youve got the WIN 8.1 64BIT PRO DVD disk.
I think this is NOT a upgrade disk but using this installation disk, the system (Win 8.1) will be installed on the HDD and this procedure would get rid of Win 7
So before trying to install Win 8.1 I would recommend you to create the Toshiba Recovery medium as described in user manual. Read it!
After the Recovery medium (Disk or UBS flash stick) has been created, you could boot from the WIN 8.1 64BIT PRO DVD in order to start the installation!

  • Satellite Pro C50-A-1MM - "no bootable device Please restart system"

Laptop had some 'important Microsoft upgrades' yesterday which I tried to install. Laptop died and when I started it up again, said 'checking pc diagnostics'.
It has advised I am getting an 'automatic fix' for last 12 hours. now stating ' no bootable device- pleasecrestart system. I am not very computer literate so looking for some advice on what has happened and how and what I need to do now?
    Thanks

The message no bootable device - please restarts system means that no system (Windows) has been found on the HDD and therefore the notebook does not boot up.
There are different reasons for that. First of all this may occur in case of HDD malfunction. For example if the HDD is fault and does not appear in BIOS. Therefore as recommended by Dr.Lamp, check if the HDD is viable in the BIOS (first BIOS page).
If the HDD appears in BIOS, well, then there might be a problem with the system partition.
It could be possible that the system partition has been muddled up and therefore the system cannot be found.
In this case the easiest solution would be a new OS installation.
Do you have a recovery disk?
If yes, take it an reinstall the system but note: this would format the HDD and of course, all the personal data will be lost.

  • Satellite Pro C50-A-1E4 runs unstable using new RAM modules

I have the above machine and have upgraded the RAM (to 8GB) a long while ago. I normally upgrade BIOS if there is a new release.
However, for some while my machine has been unstable and this is due to machine running RAM at XMP1866 (933MHz) instead of CPU rated 1600 (800MHz). I have attached screengrab from Piriform Speccy to report this.
There is no setting within UEFI BIOS 1.40 to adjust RAM timing and therefore BIOS takes SPD data incorrectly for CPU ID.
I am unable to locate earlier BIOS to check if this pattern was repeated but it took over a year to display fault hence the machine is out of warranty. If I put smaller sticks of 1600 RAM the system seems stable.
However, I purchased the RAM to make use of it. I am now unable to test if the RAM is faulty as it will not pass Memtest (either lockup or crash out) but I am unsure as to whether system instability is cause of system being OC due to BIOS or faulty RAM.
The question being it ran perfectly for about a year before displaying errors. BIOS should correctly detect speed setting from JEDEC standard data in EEPROM. It does not do this. I have often ran 'overspec' memory in other PCs without encountering this behaviour. It is only troubleshooting that has made me aware of this discrepancy.
RAM is Crucial Ballistix 8GB-1866 BLS8G3N18AES4CEU.16FE

First of all you can not use any RAM module you have to use an fully compatible modules and as you probably know, not all RAM modules available on the market are fully compatible.
As far as I know in case of RAM upgrade Toshiba recommends the usage of these modules.
    4GB DDR3-1600 PA5037U-1M4G
    8GB DDR3-1600 PA5037U-1M8G
    The specifications are:
    Memory Speed: 1600Mhz PC3-12800
    Capacity: 8GB
    Pins: 204 SODIMM
    RAM Type: DDR3 SODIMM
    Rank: Dual Rank
    CAS Latency (CL): CL11
    Voltage: 1.5v
I would recommend you to use modules which meet exactly the same specifications.
That's sidestepping the point nicely. I still believe the BIOS to not be reading the EEPROMs correctly, but hey if you can swerve that one then I'll swerve Toshiba in future.
Thanks for editing the post title.

  • DVD-SuperMulti Drive on Satellite Pro notebook

I'm looking to purchase a 15.6'' Toshiba Satellite Pro PSCMMA001001 Notebook.
Is the Optical Disc Drive: DVD-SuperMulti Drive provided suitable for recording back-ups of large (genealogical) databases? Ie is it fully recordable for data, photographs, etc.?
    Thank you.

    Hi
Using posted part number I found specification for this Satellite Pro C50. It has DVD-SuperMulti Drive.
Of course you can use it to save all your important data to empty medias like CD-R/RW or DVD-R/RW.
I dont know which burning application is originally installed. Check it out and test functionality.
Of course you can remove it from the system and install your favourite burning application.

The built-in Web Camera on my Satellite Pro L500 has stopped working with the following message:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Toshiba\Toshiba Web Camera Application\TWebCamera.exe
The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log or use the command-line sxstrace.exe tool for more detail.
The Event log points to microsoft.vc80.openMP.......
Could someone please tell me how to fix the web Camera. I very rarely use it so I do not know exactly when it stopped working.
    Thanks.

    Thanks to TwoLags & PauPau.
Yes, I did think @ re-installing the driver but wanted to see what others think about it as I am quite new to Toshiba and was not sure if I could selectively install applications from recovery DVDs.
Removing the old driver and re-installing the one downloaded from TOSH has solved the problem During the re-install, I noticed it re-install MS Visual C++2005 redistributable. THIS IS THE culprit. This litttle bit of software comes bundled with many apps and I guess this was got installed with one of the new apps that I installed recently and must have messed up the original settings.
Thank you all, thw WebCam is back in action.
