Satellite Pro C650: Questions regarding Recovery disk installation

Hi
can someone please give me a little bit of help?
I am having to buy and install a recovery disk for my Sat Pro C650.
When I get it do i just plug in and play it. I have also lost windows 7 which was pre-installed, or would I then need to also buy a new copy of windows 7 and install that too?
Will it then just go back to how it was when we brought it.
Or do I need to do something else after the recovery disk is installed.
Thanks
Tina

Hi Tina and welcome to our Toshiba community.
Here is my comment to your posting:
Every new Toshiba notebook is delivered with original preinstalled operating system and saved recovery image on HDD. There are two possibilities for OS installation:
-usage of HDD recovery installation and
-usage of recovery DVD that must be created by notebook owner.
Toshiba recommends creation of DVD disc. Why? If something goes wrong with HDD (defective) you can built-in new HDD and use recovery disc to have factory settings again. So please, if possible, create this recovery disc as soon as possible.
Back to your questions:
> When I get it do I just plug in and play it. I have also lost windows 7 which was pre-installed, or would I then need to also buy a new copy of windows 7 and install that too?
Usage of DVD is simply:
Start your notebook and press F12 to enter boot options menu
Put recovery DVD into optical disc drive
Choose CD/DVD device on the menu and press ENTER
Follow what happen on the screen
> Will it then just go back to how it was when we brought it.
Yes.
> Or do I need to do something else after the recovery disk is installed.
No. Everything will be installed automatically.
If you have more questions you are welcome.

  • Satellite Pro A300-2CW - Need Recovery disks with Windows XP

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro A300 2CW. I bought it with Software Windows XP (included in a CD), which worked perfectly for years. I have reinstalled it several times during this years, but now the CD has deteriorated and it doesn't work anymore.
Originally the machine had WIndows Vista installed with DVD recovery creation option and a HDD recovery option, but I think this is not possible for Windows XP.
Do I have any options?Where could I buy the original Windows XP CD?
    Thank you

    Hi
You can try to order it on https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx
Other way you can install own WXP version. All WXP drivers, tools ad utilities can be downloaded from Toshiba download page http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp

  • Satellite Pro C650 - HDD issue - need new one

Satellite Pro C650 Model Number: PSC09A-01V021
Smart Disk reports a unspecified HDD problem & recommends backup (done) & HDD replacement.
It runs so slow it is unusable. Warranty has expired so I wish to replace the HDD myself.
The faulty drive is a Toshiba 320gig MK3265gsxn.
    I'm looking at a 500G WD 16M 7200RPM SATA 2.5Inch Scorpio WD5000BPKX as replacement/upgrade.
I assume the new drive will be detected/setup by BIOS but I don't know if the recovery disks will work with this Western Dig, larger & faster drive. Can anyone advise please?
    Recovery Disk questions.
When I made the recovery disks using Toshiba Recovery Media Creator the program suggested marking the first few disks as Recovery Disk 1, 2 & so on. I assume these disks are my user data backup. Yes/No?
The last disk made was called Windows Recovery Environment-64bit. This is the factory default backup & is to be installed first?
Will it transfer the Recovery Partition & install Windows on the new disk?
    Thanks,
    GJL.

Now when you need to exchange HDD I recommend you to exchange it with SSD. It costs a bit more but believe me notebooks performance will be much better. Ive made the same and Im so happy.
Notebook starts faster and operate much better.
Recovery image disc is back-up of original recovery image and it has nothing to do with your personal settings.
When you install it notebook will have factory settings again and it will be identical situation when you have started your notebook for the first time.
In my opinion there should not be any problem to use created discs with new HDD. Generally speaking there is no some limitation and you can use different HDDs.
    Anyway, think about SSD.

  • Satellite Pro C650 - arrow, slash, and z keys are not working

Can any one help - my slash keys, arrow keys, z and question marks have stopped working.
I have seen several other posts on various forums for exactly the same combination of keys.
    I have a Satellite Pro C650.

    Sounds like a keyboard malfunction.
Can you use the external USB keyboard properly?
If you did not notice the same problems using external keyboard, then I would recommend replacing the internal keyboard.

  • Satellite Pro C650 - Audio keeps cutting out

    Hi Guys,
I have searched high and low for the answer to this and its driving me insane. I really hope you guys can help me out!
I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro C650 01301J laptop running Windows 7 Professional 32Bit. I try and listen to music either through spotify or simply using my library of music in Windows Media Player,
however after a while the audio cuts out. It isnt muted in mixer and the song keeps playing as if nothing has happened, except I cant hear anything.
This is fixed when I mute and unmute or turn the volume up or down using the fn keys.
When I first start up the music it will take 5 minutes or so before it happens, however once it starts it will cut out every 10 seconds or so. This gets extremely annoying and I am convinced there must be a solution.
My audio driver is Conexant CX20671 SmartAudio HD version 4.119.0.61. I have tried deleting this and reinstalling it, downloading an older driver and updating it. It tells me it is the latest driver but its still not solved the problem.
Has this happened to anyone else? Is there another driver I could try or perhaps a program that is causing it?
I would really appreciate your help on this as its driving me crazy being unable to listen to any form of music without having it cut out every 10 seconds...

Hi guys - thanks for your help and I sincerely apologise for the delay in my response!
Truthfully, I was so busy when I wrote this I forgot that it happened and all this time later I was googling solutions tot he problem again and came across this post - I thought "Wow this guy is having the EXACT same problem as me!" - Then I saw my name next to it.
    Ok, responses:
Silas - The problem has happened since day 1. I tried to reinstall the value added package but no change.
MasterG - I have not muddled with my system and it has always happened so I think its a software/hardware fault... The sound works perfect through headphones though...
Neion - Sorry to hear that bud!
PauPau - Sound driver update doesnt work, headphone did work, usage of different players has no effect and havent tried system recovery as yet as it has always happened...
Still searching for an answer and, again, I apologise for not getting back to you sooner when you were trying to help me!
    Thanks Guys,
    Luke

  • Satellite Pro C650 - Which startup programs can I disable?

After about two weeks with a new Satellite Pro C650 that I bought for my wife, a lightweight user, she is about to throw it at me.
Everything runs slowly. Click start: wait. Open the Control Panel: wait. The wait time is in the range of 20 - 30 seconds. Internet is often slower - especially Internet Explorer, which often goes into a Not Responding state. (Google Chrome performs better although it's not great either) Steps taken so far include a defrag of the C: drive, which was 5% defragmented. I ran a troubleshooting scan off of the Control Panel and it informs me that I have loads of programs running on start-up and suggests I disable some. I had read previously that this is a problem with this Toshiba.
The question then is what to disable? I don't know what most of the programs are or what they do. I'll list the programs here and then gladly take suggestions. By the way, BitDefender was listed three times in the start-up list. I disabled two of them for what it's worth.
The only apps I downloaded were BitDefender and Adobe Acrobat. McAfee antivirus has been removed. Other laptops in the house work fine with the same wireless broadband connection. Hoping someone can help out and tell me what I can disable.
    The Start-up list:
    SAIICpl Application
    Synaptics Pointing Device Driver
    Message Center
    SmartFaceVWatcher
    Catalyst Control Center
    Nero BackItUp
    Default Manager
    BitDefender 2011 (listed three times)
    Adobe Acrobat
    Adobe Reader and Acrobat Manager
    All of these Toshiba applications:
    - Power Saver
    - Zooming Utility
    - Flash Cards
    - ReelTime
    - TEMPRO
    - HDD SSD Alert
    - Volume Regulators
    - Notebook Registration
    - Service Station
    - Web Camera Application
    Thanks.
    Malahideroad

    Hi
First of all you can find out yourself what the single applications do and what are controlled by these apps use google to get more details.
But Nero BackItUp, Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Reader and Acrobat Manager can be disabled wihotu having any problems with the notebook
TEMPRO is a Toshiba tool which scans the systems and provides info about new Toshiba driver updates
Its your own personal decision if you want to use it or not
Notebook Registration helps you to register the notebooks warranty and Service Station provides some option to optimize the notebooks performance but its nice to have but its not very important

  • Satellite Pro C650, Boots OK, after Windows starts up the screen goes white

    Hi,
    I have a Satellite Pro C650.
    It boot fine.
I can see Windows starting up - after startup - the screen goes completely white.
    Has anyone seen this?
Am geussing it might be a loose display connection - but I the screen displays the startup sequence and initial windows startup.
    Regards,
    eeiddne

    Hi
I dont think your display is faulty.
What happens if you access the BIOS at the beginning?
To access the BIOS press F2 while powering on the unit.
Access the BIOS and keep it running for some minutes and check if the display will turn to white.
Additionally its advisable to connect an external monitor and to output the display to the 2nd screen. If the 2nd screen would not be OK, then the graphic chip might be the troublemaker.

  • My Satellite Pro C650 doesn't start or charge

    Hi,
    can someone please help me?!
I just purchased my Toshiba Satellite Pro C650.
Charged it for 16 hours, set it up and after restarting it went off and now it doesn't turn on of charge at all.

    Hi
Remove the batter and disconnect the AC adaptor.
Then wait some hours and connected both parts to the notebook again.
Then try to power up the unit.
If this will not help you, then I would recommend asking a notebook technician for an check. If there is no sign of life, then a serious hardware problem might be possible.

  • Satellite Pro C650 - motherboard is dead

    Hi
    1st post but here goes.
Owned Satellite Pro C650 for a year now and a wek ago just started smoking then went off.
I checked with my warranty & ran out on Sep 30.
Now my problem is i cannot seem to find info on the mobo that is inside.
I have not open or anything but where you put RAM chips you can see clearly a little square chip burnt.
So i would like to ask is this a common fault.
Also the model number of mobo so maybe i could get a replacement.
    Think thats all
    thanks for any replies

    Hi
    > I checked with my warranty & ran out on Sep 30.
This is really a bad luck Its pity that your warranty ran out just before the motherboard died.
It sounds like an overheating issue
What to say in your case the motherboard needs to be replaced and a new part could be ordered from Toshiba ASP in your country.
But new motherboard is expensiveits one of the expensive notebook parts beside the notebooks display so not sure if its worth to replace the mobo in your case
However, you can ask the ASP technician for a opinion maybe you could get an second hand part

  • External USB Hub limit for Satellite Pro C650

Is there a limit to how many external usb ports you can connect through the Satellite Pro C650?
Wtih the four port hub I have, the ports seem to work individually and all devices work normally when plugged directly into the lap top, but when all devices are plugged into the hub and lap top combined, there are errors coming up.
    Thanks,
    Karyn

Well, I think this should not be a problem if the single USB hubs provide own power.
The point is that the single USB port provides common 500mA and if more devices would share the power from one USB port then it could be possible that the available 500mA would not be enough for all USB devices.

  • Questions regarding hard disk replacement in MacBook Pro Early 2008 Edition

    Hello -
You folks probably get this a lot but I have a MacBook Pro Early 2008 edition and would like to upgrade the base 200 GB 5400 RPM drive to a Seagate Momentus 7200.4 drive. I have a few questions regarding this, and would appreciate any feedback.
    1) Does anybody know if installing a new hard drive in a MacBook Pro would cause the warranty to be invalidated? I don't believe a hard drive is considered a user replaceable part, at least from what I read, and I would like to know if replacing it myself would void AppleCare.
    2) Does anybody have any experience with the Segate Montentus 7200.4? I'm interested in how reliable the drive is and how much heat it generates. I've quickly discovered that I can use my MacBook Pro as an oven in tight spots and would like to prevent it from cooking its own internals.
3 random) Does anybody know at what temperature the system actually overheats? I'm seeing 171 F and this is with smcFanControl turned up to the Higher RPM mode. I'm a little nervous when I'm running WoW and the system is averaging above 170 with smcFanControl totally cranked up to 6000 rpm.
    Thanks everyone!

Thanks for that. I've had mixed results with both Seagate and WD, but less issues historically with WD. My experience with IBM/Hitachi makes is nearly impossible to recommend their products, so based on what I'm seeing the Western Digital Scorpio Black looks like the best bet. Do you happen to know if Apple will do hardware installations outside of warranty repair scenario's? Ripping open my only notebook to perform "involved" hardware maintenance is not something I'd prefer to do, even with my technical background.

  • How to reboot Satellite 5200-801 without using Recovery disk?

    Hi,
I haven't used my Satellite 5200-801 for a while and now it won't start. This is what I get on the black screen:
    Intel Boot Agent Version 4.1.04
    Copyright 1997-2002, Intel Corporation
PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
    PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel Boot Agent.
    Insert system disk in drive.
Press any key when tready .
I have the product recovery disk, but that will wipe all existing data and rebuild. Is there a way to start my PC without the use of recovery disk?
    Thanks for any help.

    Hi Silas & radyRoberts,
Tried to access BIOS, but seem to have no luck. When I try to enter it during boot up, I get a black screen with the following:
Set default value? (Y/N) BIOS v1.20 (in right upper corner)
It doesn't matter if I press "Y" on "N" the result is the same, which is the original screen I already described.
I also tried the Microsoft Installation disk, but nothing happened with that either. It reads the CD, but on the screen nothing but the original message appears and even that after a reboot with the CD in. If I put it in when the PC is working and "press any key", nothing changes on the screen other than the original message re-appears after it tries to reboot, but realises it's not the system disk it asked for.
I did have a similar problem starting it about a year ago, when I previously used it, but then after few restarts, it got going again. That time I did a system and disk check and defrag, so all was well when I turned it off.
Wii check the HDD via HDD enclosure next as RandyRobers suggested.
Thanks for the suggests. Will let you know how and if it worked out.

  • Question on Recovery Disk...

I own a Satellite x205, and I have "backed up" all of my files to my second harddrive.  Will the recovery disk reformat the second harddrive in addition to the first one?
If so, is there a way to prevent that from happening?

Read your user's guide to see the various options on using the Recovery Process.  That info normally starts around page 58 to 60 or so.  The user guide is on your hard drive in Adobe Acrobat Format or can be downloaded from the Product Support Link at the top of this page.  Normally it won't touch the second hard drive unless it is setup as part of a raid array.
If you don't post your COMPLETE model number it's very difficult to assist you. Please try to post in complete sentences with punctuation, capitals, and correct spelling. Toshiba does NOT provide any direct support in these forums. All support is User to User in their spare time.

  • Satellite Pro C650 - BOOTMGR is missing

    Hey Guys,
I purchased this laptop less than a week ago, and it's already giving me grief.
It first started with non-stop BSOD with various errors, for example driver_irql_less_or_not_equal and system_service_exception being the most repeated of the two.
I updated all drivers I could between the BSOD's - but gave up and decided to just do a fresh reinstall due to not having anything important saved to the HDD as of yet.
Install went through fine - until just before the initial setup was complete - BSOD happened again with a BIOS error this time.
Upon restarting the machine - I keep getting BOOTMGR is missing, Press CTRL+ALT+DEL to restart.
Restarting brings you to a never ending loop.
Entered boot options and booted from the CD drive with the recovery disk, where windows startup repair claims the problem is resolved and the machine will restart.
Once it restarted (AGAIN) I'm still getting this BOOTMGR is missing, Press CTRL+ALT+DEL to restart error.
Tried booting from the CD drive again - but it stalls three quarters the way through.
I'm literally pulling my hair out in frustration now - any ideas what I can do from here??
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello
In my opinion only logic step for you is clean OS installation again.
Please do this and wait until OS installation will be finished. Configure OS and try to use it for a while without installing any additional software. Install Microsoft updates only. Please disable automatic update installation and choose option Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them.
When updates will be available install important updates only. Do not install optional updates, especially not driver updates.
Please send some feedback what have you done exactly.

  • Satellite Pro L40 freezes during recovery

I get the option nationallity and after clicking next nothing happens....
Even for hours. I wonder if its something i can do to access the machune? With no windows?

    Hi
Why you dont try to repeat the recovery procedure again?
Take your Recovery disk and start the installation using the recovery disk.
If you notebook has been equipped with HDD recovery option then you could start if again.
Power up the unit, press F8 and then choose Repair my Computer.
Then you could follow with the installation choosing Toshiba HDD recovery.
    Check it.
