Satellite Pro L300 - DVD drive error code 10 on Vista.

Can't see DVD drive on "my computer" Under device manager its showing drive but with yellow triange, after looking at info, the device status is "This device cannot start. (Code 10)" tried restarting 2 times. Thats not working.
Also cheaked drivers, on my computer and internet, windows is saying there up to date and im running the latest.
Tried to uninstall drive and restart thats failed.
When instering a disk the drive does move and spin the disk, so im hoping its a technical issue and doesnt need new drive.
Any help is welcome
thanks

Hi mate
Dont worry it seems its just a registry issue.
First of all remove the CD/DVD drive from the device manager list.
Then go to registry and remove the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters values completely from the following registry key:
+HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contr ol\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}+
Details here:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/270008/en-us
Then reboot the notebook.
Wait until the OS has recognized the CD/DVD drive again and check it.

  • Satellite Pro A210 DVD Drive not working - error code 39

    Hi All
My Satellite Pro A210 dvd drive is not loading.
When I looked into it it showed an error code 39.
I tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it but it's still not working.
    Any ideas?

    Hi
From my knowledge the error message 39 appears if the CD/DVD drive is not visible in the My Computer.
    You can try this workaround:
Go to device manager and delete the CD/DVD drive from the device list.
Then go to registry (regedit) and remove the upper and lower filters from the key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\ Control\Class\ {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Then reboot the unit and test it again
    I think this should help!

  • Satellite Pro L300 - Disk Read Error

    Hey, Lee here.
I'm currently having problems with my Satellite Pro L300,
Everytime I try and boot it up, it will come up with a 'Disk Read Error, Press CTRL+ALT+DEL to Reboot' this has been happening for a while, and i've tried using the Recovery Console with the 'FIXBOOT' command, but this isn't working, due to the fact that there is no OS installed. I've tried re-installing Windows Vista Ultimate, but it keeps giving me an error. Any help?

To test the hard drive determine what brand of hard drive you have.  You can check the Bios/Setup to find out or run SIW or Belarc Advisor.  Go to that manufacturer's support site and download their Self Booting Diagnostic CD ISO image, create the CD using the Burn From Image option (see http://iso.snoekonline.com/iso.htm for more information on doing this), then boot to it and run the most exhaustive tests available.  If you have a Toshiba drive you will need to use the Hitachi Drive Fitness Test as Toshiba doesn't supply their own. http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/support/download.htm
If you don't post your COMPLETE model number it's very difficult to assist you. Please try to post in complete sentences with punctuation, capitals, and correct spelling. Toshiba does NOT provide any direct support in these forums. All support is User to User in their spare time.

  • Re: Satellite Pro C870 - No Wireless, Error code 43

Have two new Satellite Pro C870's where the wireless was being disabled every second startup. Wireless NIC in device manager had an exclamation mark and was showing "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)"
After performing a system restore as advised by support the issue was still there.
Just before sending the two laptops off for repair I undid a setting called "fast boot" in the bios (otherwise set using a Toshiba utility).
Issue seems to have cleared after this.

    Hi
You are using Win 8. Right?
    > Have two new Satellite Pro C870's where the wireless was being disabled every second startup
First of all you should know that Windows 8 does not perform a real shutdown.
It goes just in hybrid mode.
Maybe the error 43 is related to the fact the Win 8 and notebook did not shut down as you expected from a system like Win 7.
If you would search for error code 43 using google, you will get a lot of hits and mostly its system / driver issue.
So first of all I recommend disabling the hybrid mode and performing complete shut down:
    +Perform a complete shutdown in Windows 8+
    http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB2B03EY0002R01.htm
secondly try the WLan driver update.
    Regarding the other issue
    >Also had an issue with the function of turning on when the panel is opened: this would cause the laptop to turn back on immediately after shutting down.
This is also an Windows 8 feature which can be disabled:

  • No access to DVD Drive - error code 38

The driver update published 07/07/08 at 23:59 was installed on my system as directed by Toshiba Tempo but on restarting my machine I have error 38 (according to Vista) that prevents the new driver installing as the old driver is resident in memory..?? Effectively this means that I cannot access or see my DVD drive anymore other than in the Device Manager page of Control Panel. The rollback driver option is not available, possibly as it was a firmware update. The message in the Device Properties page is as follows:
Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware because a previous instance of the device driver is still in memory. (Code 38)
The updatre installed was frmwre-20080707134447. It includes an Adobe document that tells you what to do and how to ensure that your drive requires updating, all of which was easy to follow and tied in with my machine.
I have tried uninstalling the device and driver, but each time I reload it the same error occurs.
I am really unimpressed and fairly annoyed, as this is a Toshiba recommended firmware update done using their Tempo system, any thoughts or advice welcome.
    Thanks
    Matt

    Hi
Do you see a CD/DVD drive in the device manager?
If yes, then remove it from the device list.
Then access the registry and remove the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters values completely from the following registry key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Finally reboot the notebook and check if the CD/DVD drive would functions again

  • Satellite Pro U300: DVD issue - error: cannot output to external monitor

    Hi,
I was having problems playing a dvd on my U300.
Basically the software would load but when I tried to play the dvd it said "cannot output to external monitor".
Having gone through all options I could not find anything to stop this happening. I then downloaded the latest software from the toshiba site.
    dvdpl-20070807102909.zip
I resintalled this but got the same error message.
I then uninstalled the software and tried to reinstall but now it just produces an error mesaage saying it cannot intsall the software on this computer.
    How can I reinstall this?
    Regards,
    Mark

I presume you have received the Toshiba Recovery CD. Am I right?
On this CD you can find the Toshiba image file. This image contains the Vista OS, Toshiba drivers, tools and additional software.
But note; you cannot install only a single program. To reinstall a application from the Recovery CD you have to format the HDD and have to reinstall the whole OS using the Recovery CD.
As Gipsyman said, the Toshiba driver page contains update and the original preinstalled software is needed.

  • Satellite Pro L300-152 Driver Update problems.

Hi there, I'm new to all this and just about managed to find my way to this website. I bought a Satellite as above brand new from PC World Business yesterday 22/10/08.
I had horrendous problems installing multiple Windows Updates which I eventually had to install one by one with a re-boot after each 'Important' update.
I registered the laptop with Toshiba and now I am using Tempro I have 5 alerts telling me to install various updates ......
_3 Firmware updates and 1 Face recognition update._ I have extracted the Zip files and run the progs and get a message saying 'This firmware is not compatible with the selected drive. Contact your system manufacturer for information on formware updates available for this drive'.
1 Bios update which eventually ran with the help of Windows and then gave the message 'ROM date is not older than BIOS date .....' whatever that means.
I just bought a laptop, I didn't volunteer to become a technical wizz.
It feels like I'm doing Toshiba's job troubleshooting here, and I have no idea what I'm doing. Can anyone help me?
    Thanks, Glennis

    Hi buddy
To be honest I dont understand why you react so panicly
You received a notebook which has a preinstalled Vista OS.
The point is that this Vista OS was preinstalled several days/weeks ago on your notebook and since then the Microsoft has published a lot of updates and therefore Vista downloaded and installed the updates. But dont wonder about further updates. From time to time to you will receive such hotfixes!!! This is a common OS behavior.
    Regarding the Tempro tool;
This tool informs you about new available drivers, tools or utilities on the Toshiba page.
To be honest I wouldnt use it. Usually its really not important what and when a driver a tool was released if your notebook is running trouble free. I follow always this recommendation; never change the running system.
    Hope I could clarify this.
    Bye

  • Satellite Pro L300 1AD Can't install display driver on Windows XP

I just installed XP on my Satellite pro because my internet modem doesnt work with Vista.
I went on the main Toshiba website to install the display drivers but they wont install, it keeps bringing up the message "this driver is not for this computer please contact manufacturer".
I dont understand why because all the other drivers I downloaded off the same page work, its just the display one. Does anyone know whats wrong?

Have you downloaded the newest driver for Satellite Pro L300?
On the Toshiba website its version 6.14.10.4953.
Alternative you can try the drivers from Intel but normally the Toshiba driver should work.
I always use the Toshiba driver and never had problems.
By the way, I looked on this Toshiba website:

  • Satellite Pro L300 -software-service says I need update for graphics driver

I downloaded the DesignByMe software from http://designbyme.lego.com/en-us/default.aspx
The installation run without problems, but when I want to start the program it restarts over and over again. The picture doesnt load fully, instead there are black spots. I cant click on anything nor close to programm .I thought maybe the installing process didnot finish properly so I downloaded the software again but the problem is still the same. Im using a new Satellite Pro L300 28w with Windows 7 and Mozilla Firefox 3.6
I contacted the lego support and they answered: "You most likely need to update your graphics driver. Please contact your computer manufacturers customer service or website for a free upgrade"
Is this likely and if so which upgrad edo I need?

    Hi
I dont know if updating your display driver can solve this problem but if the manufacture of the software says that its worth a try!!! ;)
The update is pretty easy: Firstly download the latest version here:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com => Support & Downloads => Download Drivers
If you have downloaded the latest version, remove the old one firstly. Check the software list in control panel and follow the screen instructions. I assume you have to make one restart and after this you can install the downloaded version.
    Good luck! :)

  • Satellite Pro L300: x3100 and Intel 965 chipset graphics driver update

Has anyone else installed the Intel 7.15.10.1666 driver, dated 26/02/2009 for the Mobile 965 chipset? Here's their web page for getting to the download:
    http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/intelgm965/
For some reason unknown to me, Toshiba Satellite Pro L300 doesn't work with the Intel auto driver update (the download with the exe file). Therefore I followed their instructions for a manual install (the download with the zip file).
My laptop is working just fine with this new driver, and there is a definite improvement in the transitions between images when using the Windows presentation option (slideshow).
This new driver also installs 3 graphics programs from Intel:
    Hotkeys for display management
    System tray access
    TV wizard
I used Windows Defender to remove these 3 from programs that automatically load at system startup to keep a fast boot time and not load unnecessary programs into memory. This hasn't caused me any problems.
Why hasn't Toshiba added this to the driver downloads page?

    Hi
    Thanks for this info mate...
    > Why hasn't Toshiba added this to the driver downloads page?
Who knows maybe it has not been checked, approved and tested by Toshiba?
As far as I know every notebook manufacturers test and approve the drivers before they will be released on the driver pages
Maybe it has not been approved...
However, its good news that this driver is working properly.
I will check it too on my notebook.
    Cheers

  • Satellite Pro A10: IDE#1 Error - drive appears only if CD is inserted

    Hi,
I was recently laying on my bed watching a DVD when I fell asleep with the laptop sat next me on my bed. During the night however I moved and accidently knocked it off the side of my bed.
The next day when I booted it up on loading it said IDE#1 Error which I have since come to understand is a CD/DVD drive error, The unit itself works fine, boots up ok (except the IDE error), and I can use it as normal except that there is no DVD drive in 'My computer' which is a bit of a pain when I want to watch a film/play a game or install something.
The drive itself is totally unresponsive, when I press the eject button the tray it doesn't do a thing.
I decided to try and remove and re-seat the drive to see if it was just knocked loose when it fell off the bed as it only fell a short way (about an 18" drop.)
I removed all the covers on the bottom of the laptop and checked that everything was seated correctly and to try and figure out how to remove the drive but didn't want to get too adventurous as to make the situation worse, the only thing i did do is remove the CPU fan and remove some fluff and remove the HDD and had a look to make sure it wasn't damaged in anywhere (it wasn't) and then replaced it and replaced all the covers.
When I rebooted the system it booted up fine as usual and the drive responds when I press the eject button, but the DVD drive is now (sometimes) displayed in 'My computer' but only when I insert something (be it a DVD/Game/Program) and then it displays an error message stating there is an I/O error on the device.
Any help from you all would be a great help, I was thinking of just removing the drive and replacing it with a new one such as a DVD RW one but I don't know how so I would be very grateful for any advice/guidance you could provide.
    Many Thanks,
    Michael

    Hi Michael,
It is possible that reseating your optical drive may be necessary to return it to full functionality. Unfortunately on the A10 this will involve some dismantling in order to reach its securing screw which is underneath the keyboard.
Please check the following link for full dismantling instructions. The DVD drive is covered in step 13. http://www.irisvista.com/tech/laptops/ToshibaA15/SatelliteA15_laptop_disassembly_1.htm

  • 8 questions from new owner of Satellite Pro L300

    Hello all forum users!
I bought a new Toshiba laptop, the Satellite Pro L300, and have until 14 January to test it - if it looks like it isn't working properly I'll return it to the store where I purchased it.
    Here's a list of questions I have:
    1. Every time I turn on the laptop or it comes out of suspended or hibernation mode, and when I turn it off, the cd/dvd drive makes a loud mechanical clunky noise.
It sounds to me like the carriage that carries the laser and optics is running into a mechanical stop.
    Is this normal?
    2. There is one hot subpixel on the display (blue) and according to the Toshiba info in the box, this is normal and is not cause for return.
Should I be concerned about this?
    3. When I run the memory test at system boot, it states that it will start windows automatically at test termination, and show me the results of the test.
It runs the test, starts Vista, but I don't see any results report.
Where do I find this report?
Is there a known problem with this test?
    4. The Toshiba utility program to perform diagnostics from within Vista does not work. Every time I run the test (PCdiag.exe) I get a Vista error message saying a fault was found in KERNEL32.dll.
Where can I get a fix for this?
I've already installed the updated files on Toshiba's web site for the 'Value Added Pack', which is where this utility is located, but still get the error message.
    5. I would like to access the bios settings at boot, but haven't found the way to do it yet.
F2 gives me a menu for memory test or normal system boot.
Esc doesn't get me into bios setup either.
There is a Toshiba bios utility I can run from Vista, and from what I see any bios firmware upgrades are also to be done through Vista.
Is there a way to access bios at boot?
    6. I would like to run XP on this system and understood that this model (Pro L300 PSLB1E) was XP compatible, and that I should be able to download all drivers from Toshiba to run on XP.
    Has anyone done this?
    7. The laptop installed and configured Vista basic when I did the first power on, but the license sticker on the bottom of the laptop has a product key for 'Vista Business OEMAct'. I was sold this laptop as having Vista Business with the option to downgrade to XP Pro. The box didn't come with any cds or dvds, and no manuals explaining how to install Vista Business.
This is enough reason to return the laptop to the store where I bought it, which is a hassle I would prefer to avoid if I can install Vista Business.
Can anyone help me understand what is happening here?
    8. Is there a way to contact technical support by email?
Thanks in advance to anybody that can answer any of the above questions!

    > 1. Every time I turn on the laptop or it comes out of suspended or hibernation mode, and when I turn it off, the cd/dvd drive makes a loud mechanical clunky noise.
My CD/DVD drives make similar noise too from time to time. Not always but sometimes. I think this appears because the drives laser lens calibrates in the right position.
    > 2. There is one hot subpixel on the display (blue) and according to the Toshiba info in the box, this is normal and is not cause for return.
Well, you need an certain amount of dead pixels to get a screen replacement
    Please check this FAQ:
    http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB5400ZD0002R01.htm
    > 3. When I run the memory test at system boot, it states that it will start windows automatically at test termination, and show me the results of the test.
There is no problem. I believe you mean the memory test while POST (power on self test). If there would be a memory fault then your notebook would not boot up properly.
    > 4. The Toshiba utility program to perform diagnostics from within Vista does not work. Every time I run the test (PCdiag.exe) I get a Vista error message saying a fault was found in KERNEL32.dll.
Hmm the Value Added Package contains the PC diagnostic tool for Vista. I would recommend removing the old VAP and reinstalling the new downloaded from the page.
The notebook seems to use the Phoenix BIOS and therefore pressing the F2 button should enable the BIOS. Press the F2 immediately after notebook has been powered up.
    > 6. I would like to run XP on this system and understood that this model (Pro L300 PSLB1E) was XP compatible, and that I should be able to download all drivers from Toshiba to run on XP.
Such XP drivers are placed on the Toshiba European page.

I was sold this laptop as having Vista Business with the option to downgrade to XP Pro. The box didn't come with any cds or dvds, and no manuals explaining how to install Vista Business.
Never hear that this notebook would be delivered with Vista business As far as I know this series has been preinstalled with Vista Home Premium
    > 8. Is there a way to contact technical support by email?
If you have some problems with your notebook you can contact your ASP in your country.

  • Satellite Pro L300/L300D series wont start properly

    Hi guys
I got a Toshiba Satellite Pro L300/L300D series and basically one day the laptop just stopped working and whenever I turned it on I just got to this blank page saying press CTRL + ALT + DEL to restart the system. So I tried to reboot it pressing F12 and using a new copy of Vista Ultimate. However when I come to install Vista on the drive it states that there is no drive present on the system.
Does anyone have any idea how I can overcome this problem, your help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks

    >What do I need to do and how can i create a partition if the computer wont start.
Can you please explain this again? It sounds pretty illogic to me. If your computer wants start how you can try to install OS?
Sorry my friend but now I am asking myself do we understand us correctly or I write about thing A and you write answer about something that I can define as thing B.
    Again:
Start your notebook and press F12 to enter boot device options
Put Vista installations DVD into optical disc drive
Choose CD/DVD drive in the list and press ENTER
Installations DVD will load (Windows is loading files...)
Follow the menu on the screen
When the stage with partitions is shown on the bottom right side (Drive options advanced)
The additional menu on the bottom will be shown
    Delete all listed partitions/partition
Use option NEW and create new one
Try to install Vista on this new created partition.
Can you do this or not?

  • BSODs on Satellite Pro L300

    Hi everyone,
I've been using my *Satellite Pro L300 28W* for 2 years now, and since the last summer it's no fun any more.
The notebook is suffering *BSoDs* one after one, making working impossible. According to BlueScreenView, it's mostly halmacpi.dll that's responsible, and the bug code is *0x124*, which is for hardware as far as I know.
I tried everything described on various forums, including virus and rootkit search, updating all drivers and BIOS, checked core temp with SpeedFan - everything seems to be OK, but still the BSoDs reappear. I have nothing overclocked, run Windows 7 32 bit with all the latest updates.
There are no BSoDs when booting in secure mode. If anyone has some ideas about this issue, I'll be happy to see them!

    >By the way, what's that original toshiba recovery image you're speaking about?
The Toshiba image is the package which was preinstalled at the first day of purchase the image contains the Windows OS, Toshiba drivers, tools and 3rd party software like Win DVD, etc
The usage of the Toshiba Recovery disk (which you could create using Toshiba Recover disk creator software) would format the HDD and would set the notebook back to factory settings this means that you should backup you own data and files before running this process.
By the way: the BSOD seems to be triggered by halmacpi.dll. The halmacpi.dll is related to the usage of the Microsoft Developer Network (MSDN) Library with Operating Systems and its part of the Windows OS and its hardware related (Hardware Abstraction Layer DLL).
This means that hardware problem might cause the BSOD
However, try recover disk and check if default settings would help you.

  • Satellite Pro L300-1FN does not boot - hangs at BIOS splash screen

My Satellite pro L300-1FN is refusing to boot up. When switched on the laptop displays the toshiba/insyde H20 BIOS splash screen and the "Press F2 go to Setup Utility, F12 go to boot menu" message and flashes the hard disk access light but does not attempt to continue loading. I have left the bios at the splash screen but it does nothing for many hours on AC or runs the battery flat while on battery.
Is there a way of re-setting the BIOS on this unit? If it were a desktop unit I would remove the CMOS battery to force a BIOS reset but this is impossible on a laptop. The hard disk is fine as I have connected it to another system to remove valuable data.

*I managed to fix this issue* ,,, thanks to some other dudes on other forums
What i did was Format a Floppy disk as MS-DOS boot using a Windows XP PC and USB floppy drive, then downloaded the latest BIOS for my L300-1BW laptop model, copied *.fd bios image to the floppy disk and renamed it to BIOS.fd.
Connect FDD to the toshiba laptop with out AC connected. Held Power button for 12 seconds, connected AC adapter, then held Fn+F, powered on , and kept the Fn+F keys held down for about 10 seconds into the reading of the floppy drive just to be sure, then let go. The screen was black throughout the process. I left this for a few minutes, or until it had finished, the laptop rebooted itself, and voila, it now goes passed the TOSHIBA POST logo screen :)
I hope this helps others with Toshiba Laptops. should work for any Toshiba laptop.
