Satellite Pro L300D-20R shutting down in safe mode

Hi folks,
I occasionally run full scans using Avira antivirus and Asquared free as well as Ccleaner in safe mode. However, when I boot in to safe mode the fan runs aggressively all the time and then my laptop shuts down. This occurred also when I was using the help facility so is not just confined to running the anti malware scans. I tried using "start up repair" but this did n't fix it. Then I used the Toshiba HDD recovery to restore it back to the factory settings but this did n't work either. In normal mode it scans virus and anti malware free and runs OK.
Any advice appreciated.

Hi
According to your message the notebook work great in normal mode but does not work properly in safe mode. Right?
Well, since only some essential and necessary services would be loaded in safe mode, I think the issues could be related to software/system problem.
I wonder why the HDD recovery didnt function hmm you should create a recovery disk using the preinstalled software called Toshiba Recovery disk creator.
Then you could use this disk in order to recover the notebook once again.
Then you can check the safe mode functionality is you need it.

  • Satellite Pro U400-13D shuts down repeatedly

    Hi everyone,
I'm using the Satellite Pro U400-13D for office work only. During the last days the Notebook shuts itself down without warning during normal operation.
After a restart the problem reoccurs after a random duration.
Is this problem known? What can I do about it?
    Thanks,
    Alexander Lorenz

    Hi Alexander!
First of all welcome in forum! :)
Regarding your issue I have one question: Can you notice that the notebook is getting hot on the bottom side? I ask this because normally a notebook shuts down if its getting to hot and so it protects the hardware. Otherwise the hardware would be damaged due a higher internal temperature.
As Akuma said you buy compressed air spray. So you can clean the notebook and this blows the dust out from the cooling ventilators. Maybe it works for you.
Furthermore about cleaning a notebook I have founded an interesting article:

  • My mac shuts down during safe mode?

I tried using safe mode for the first time because I needed it to fix another problem. I shut down my mac and pressed shift as instructed. The apple logo appears and the spinning symbol. Then the progress bar appears and about 1/3 of its progress, it disappears then my mac shuts down. I tried restarting it without holding down the shift key but it results in the same way and I can't get it to boot at all now! Please help.

    I sense a HDD problem.
Try booting the MBP into the recovery partition.
From the 4 option menu, select Disk Utility.
Run Disk Utility>First Aid, Verify and Repair.
If the HDD cannot be repaired it will have to be replaced.
    Ciao.

  • Satellite Pro L300D-20R and gaming

I am interested in buying this laptop to replace our desktop. Does anyone know how good the ATI Radeon 3100 Graphics are?
Our kids like playing Zoo Tycoon 2 and Sims would it be capable of playing these games?
    We don't play FPS games.

    Hi
I think you shouldnt have any problems playing these games but if you are hardcore gamer and want to play high performance games in the future then I would recommend buying a desktop PC. The point is that you can easily replace the graphic card in the desktop PC and can upgrade the CPU if necessary.
But its not possible to replace the graphic card in the notebook.
Anyway, playing older games you should not have any big performance problems...

  • Satellite Pro L300D-138 restarts on shut down

    Hi,
I recently bought myself a Satellite Pro L300D-138, and I also got one for my parents. Almost every time I shut it down, it automatically restarts. I think it only happens when there are updates that are being installed, but I think it might be happening even if there aren't updates. I'm not getting messages that say, 'New updates, restart needed.' or anything. I also didn't think updates needed restarts as such, but that shutting the computer down, and then turning it on again tomorrow, or whatever would complete the updates. Maybe I'm wrong..? Is there somewhere I should be looking out for new update/restart requests?
It's not a big deal, really, it's just a bit of a pain in the @55 having to go back to the laptop to shut it down again a few minutes after shutting it down... Am I making sense? I feel like I'm repeating myself! :)
This is also happening with the laptop I got for my parents, so I presume it's a Toshiba thing, or a new computer thing, I just wanna know whether I can make it stop or if I just gotta set aside 10 minutes for shut downs!!!!
    Cheers for any help!
    Ailbhe

He told me to go to run, type in cmd, hit enter
then type in powercfg -devicequery wake_armed
then control panel- system -hardware- device manager
In +modems, right click on Toshiba modem, properties, power management, and uncheck box that said 'enable restart on standby' or something.
It worked for sbout 5 or 6 hours yesterday, in that i closed down one or the other of the laptops two or three times each and they stayed shut down. Then last night when I was shutting mine down, it restarted again, i checked both computers 2 or 3 times this morning, problem was back.
    So, I went:
control panel- system- hardware- device manager- view- show hidden devices.
Down the list was 'serial' with a yellow boxed exclamation mark, i clicked on it, troubleshooted it.
It said to uninstall then reinstall.
I uninstalled, did a restart, went back there, to try to reinstall or find a place where it could instruct me to do something, and there was nothing. I shut the computer down and it stayed shut down. I tried again 2 more times, and it stayed shut down twice more. I dunno what 'serials' is for, what it was meant to be doing (it said it wasn't working) and whether or not i've done something bad now!
the first thing, with the unchecking of the box, I was told to do, but the unistalling of the serial device could lead to problems for me....
I hope not, but at the moment the problem seems to be stopped, so fingers crossed.
Sorry, I'm not very eloquent when it comes to mapping out what to do with a computer!
    Hope this sheds some light...

  • Satellite Pro L300D-110 - Downgrade to XP Pro - HDD devices gone missing?

Hello to all in the Toshibe Satellite Pro forum - my first post.
I've been a happy owner of other Tosh laptops without any problems, but this time I'm unhappy :o(
We bought a Satellite Pro L300D 110 (AMD Athlon Dual Core) laptop just a few days ago for business use. We bought it on the understanding that it could be down-graded to XP Pro - mainly because some of the software we use on a daily basis won't run reliably on Vista, but also because all the other Desktops/Laptops in our network (includes a WLAN) are all running XP Pro, so adding another machine to it should've been easy.
The need to do this was confirmed by the fact despite everything I tried, we just could not get the new Toshiba L300D connecting via our routers whilst running Vista. At the same time, we also bought a new Dell with no O/S. I installed a new copy of OEM XP Pro SP2 - and it's running as sweet as a nut! Sorry, I digress:
I down-graded the L300D to XP Pro fine using the Toshiba XP Pro recovery disk supplied - no problems at all. I got the machine connecting to the network too, but then I realised that the DVD (Pioneer DVD-RW DVRTD08A ATA) was not being found by Windows.
Logged into the BIOS setup - yep, it was listed there OK, but trying a few nips and tucks I've learnt over the years, I still couldn't get XP Pro to discover the device.
I've now reinstalled Vista on the machine and it's found the DVD writer again.
If it were a PC, I'd shut down the machine, open up the case, disconnect the writer, boot up, shut down, reconnect the device, shut case and bingo. But not with a laptop maybe...
Does anyone have any ideas how to (reliably!) downgrade to XP Pro without devices disappearing? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I do have two more new copies of XP Pro SP2 at my disposal, if that's any use.
    Kind regards
    David

    >I'm happy again now :o)
    Great to hear that!
    Just for info:
The newer notebook series supports newer SATA HDD controllers and therefore the OS cannot be installed if the SATA drivers are not included and preinstalled.
So if you want to use the SATA features you need to install firstly the SATA driver.
But you can also turn the SATA mode to compatibility mode (in BIOS) and this would allow you to install the Win XP without the needed SATA drivers.
    Bye

  • My mac pro will not shut down

    I'm using the lates OS X 10.6.8
Everytime i try to shut down my screen goes blue and wheel turns but nothing happens. I need to press the power button to get the Mac Pro to completely shut down, which can't be healthy for my mac?

Boot in safe mode and see whether the same thing happens.

  • As soon as video touches my Source or Program windows the Mac Pro (3,1) shuts down

    Linc,
You keep showing up when I search for this problem so I hope you can help.
I'm having the same issue in Premiere and Media Encoder (but not After Effects). My Mac just restarts itself as soon as video is loaded. I can start Premiere and open a project and go through relinking media, but as soon as video touches my Source or Program windows the Mac Pro (3,1) shuts down.
I've fixed the problem temporarily two times. The first time I was troubleshooting what was wrong and wound up putting in my old video card and after that fixed the problem, I switched back to my GTX 680. I also did a driver update. After doing that I was ok for a few days so I figured it was a driver thing or maybe the card just needed to be reseated. Then when it started acting up again I figured something was going on.
So I started searching again and came across one of your posts that recommended removing CUDA. I did that and it worked perfectly for a week until about 20 minutes ago. Crashed in the middle of an edit and now each time I restart Premiere it crashes as soon as video touches my monitors.
I found this post because I specifically searched for "com.nvidia.web.NVDAResmanWeb(8.2.7)" from my Problem Report.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks,
    Darren

Thanks for the reply. Sorry for the shortened log. Here's the full thing. By the way, where do you learn to read these things? Are there keywords like "error" that you just learn to look for or is it something for in depth?

  • My Macbook Pro won't shut down or restart without forcing shut down. Hangs on grey screen. iTunes not recognizing iPod.

    HELP!!!
Here are the specs of my machine:
    2011 13.3" MacBook Pro
    4 GB Ram/320 GB HD
For the past several months my MacBook Pro refuses to shut down or restart without holding down the power button. Whenever I choose to restart or shut down the computer, it will hang on a grey screen. I have even tried letting it hang for an hour, and it still won't shut down. I notice that once in a while it will retart or shut down correctly if I had not used opened iTunes since turning it on. However, even manually closing iTunes before shutting down or restarting does not solve the problem. It seems as though it only shuts down if iTunes was not used since restarting the computer. Is this a registry error? Do I need to reinstall iTunes? I noticed this problem began happening after I uninstalled Kaspersky Virus Scanner, could that be the problem as well? Also, I cannot guarantee that the problem is only associated with iTunes. I just noticed that one of the few times it shut down or restarted correctly, iTunes coincidentally had not been used. Also, this problem started happening while I was still using Lion and has continued despite upgrading to Mountain Lion.
Also, whenever I update my iPod through iTunes, it won't eject properly, and a transparent icon of the iPod displays on the screen even after I have removed it from the USB port. Furthermore, the iPod will only be recognized by iTunes and will only be updated the first time I plug it in. After removing it and plugging it back in, it won't recognize or update the device unless I shut down and restart the computer. I have the latest addition of iTunes. I also have two iPods, one 80 GB Classic, and one 8 GB Nano, and I have the same problem with both.
I have AppleCare. Should I take my macbook to the genius bar?
Applications I normally use are Word, Safari, FireFox, iTunes, FinalDraft, Photo Booth, Notes, Mail, App Store, etc. No real heavy lifting.
Any feedback would be very much appreciated. :-)
    Thank you everyone!!

    I have this question too.

  • MacBook Pro will not shut down

A principal at my district has a MacBook Pro 15-inch Early 2008 (2.4/2X1GB/200-5400/256VRAM/AG) running OS 10.5.8 that will not shut down. When shut down is chosen, the computer restarts instead of shutting down. It does not matter how shut down is chosen, whether it is from pull down menu, keyboard command, click on shutdown in the login menu, etc. I have tried resetting PRAM, SMC, starting up from a known good system, and run diagnostics applications (which turn up no problems). The only way to get the machine to tunr off is hold the power button down until it shuts off.
The user complains it also gets very hot when he leaves it sitting open in sleep mode. I have not observed that particular symptom. It also tend to run down the battery faster than it should (battery check shows it to have 80+% of it's original capacity.) But Activity Monitor does not show any unusual activity.
Any suggestions what I can try next to figure this thing out?
    Thanks.

On occassion (like tonight) my MacBook Pro will not
shut down - even when I attempt to force quit. Any
    suggestions?
Happens here too, but very rarely. In my case it mostly happens late at night when OS X is supposed to run some internal maintenance jobs, maybe some of them do not allow a shutdown?
Does holding the power button down for approx. 10 seconds work? If yes, then I would not worry about it. If no, there is something seriously odd and I would report it to AppleCare.
    Cheers,
    Uwe

  • Mac book pro trys to shut down while downloading?

my mac book pro trys to shut down while im downloading for some reason..

    Hi Monroeeugene,
I'm not sure if you mean shutting down or going to sleep ... but this article will explain how to change your sleep settings so your downloads don't get interrupted.
    Mac Basics: Set your preferences
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2490
    Change your Mac's sleep settings
To conserve energy, all Macs have the ability to sleep. When you haven't used your Mac for a set amount of time, it enters a low-power mode until you wake it by pressing the keyboard, trackpad, or moving the mouse. Sleep doesn't turn off your computer; it merely puts it into an inactive state that consumes less power.
    Open System Preferences
    Choose View > Energy Saver.
Choose the Power Adapter or Battery tab. If you're using a desktop Mac (a Mac mini, iMac, or Mac Pro), the Power Adapter and Battery tabs do not appear.
Move the sliders for both the computer and display to change the times in which they go to sleep.
Select any other options you want, such as sleep and wake.
    Hope this helps ...

  • DVD Studio Pro  continues to shut down unexpectedly

I have an iMac running Mac OS 10 and my DVD studio Pro continues to shut down whenever I try to open a project. I have no idea how to start fixing this problem and have not found any other forums to be of help. I have a 2 GHz Intel core duo processor with 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM.

    Hi:
What version of DVDSP are you running? You need at least DVDSP 4.1 to run under Intel processors.
You can try this DVDSP: TROUBLESHOOTING BASICS

Mac book pro mid 2009 shuts down after a few hour of use and then is very difficult to reboot. Sometimes I have to wait hours, sometimes I have to repeatedly press the power button and then it will slowly start a little longer each press untill it completely boots. It has done this three times know.  Each time I was watching a video.

Try running the Apple Hardware Test - sounds as if you've hardware issues.
