Satellite Pro L850 - i5 3210M shared memory allocation

Hi,
I'm a proud new owner of this excellent laptop and I've added extra RAM to take it to 8GB.
All the spec sheets on retailer websites state that the gpu can be assigned up to 1.7GB of shared memory.
Previous experience of other computers is that this memory amount is altered in the BIOS settings but I do not see any option in latest BIOS 1.60.
Obviously theres' plenty of RAM to give to the GPU but I can't see how to assign it. Do the i5 chips allocate dynamically once Windows is running or is the BIOS missing this setting?
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Hi
The shared memory is controlled by graphic card driver and this cannot be controlled manually if an running applications needs some shared memory, the driver would assign this value automatically.

  • Satellite Pro L850-1UJ: How create recovery DVDs from recovery partition

I recently bought a Satellite Pro L850-1UJ with Windows 8
    http://www.toshiba.co.uk/laptops/satellite-pro/l850/satellite-pro-l850-1uj/
I've created a new partition (so i could use it as data room)
i.e. C: the windows system AND Z: my data
after that, i could NOT use the RECOVERY MEDIA CREATOR to create the recovery dvds
BUT the partition still exists and i can see the inside files from windows
IS IT a way to extract the files from the recovery partition or any other clue how i could fix the partition scheme so the RECOVERY MEDIA CREATOR could recognize it
    Many thanks for your time...

    >I've created a new partition (so i could use it as data room)
    This was a mistake
The HDD partition table has been modified and changed which means that the Toshiba recover media creator would not find the essential files in order to create the Recovery disk or recovery USB flash memory stick.
What you could try to do is to reset the notebook back to factory settings.
For this you can use the option called Reset your PC.
    Details here:
    http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB2A03ES0000R01.htm
After that the partition table should be set to the same state like at the first day of purchase and you could try to create the recovery disk once again.
Otherwise if this does not help you, the recovery disk could be ordered as mentioned by user xaver

  • Satellite Pro L850 - Curser 'Hang up' and related problems

I have recently bought a Satellite Pro L850 with Windows OS.
When using the Synaptics pad touch pad the cursor tends to hang up in a random fashion on the screen and sometimes disappears completely.
At times the tool tip displays a small rectangle, bisected horizontally with a small arrow head in each half.
The cursor always sticks when this rectangle is present but the rectangle is not always present when the cursor sticks, I have not been able to identify the purpose of this rectangle.
Other problems such as scroll bars moving independently etc. are probably related to the main problem which, if solved, will hopefully cure all. I have not found any settings in the Control Panel to cure the problem.
All pointer and mouse settings are set as defaults except for the cursor location facility.
Any assistance will be most welcome.
    Regards TERON

    Hi
Did you try to reinstall the touchpad driver?
    Please do that
Also the mouse cursors could hangs due to stressed CPU.
Some processes which are running in the background could stress the CPU and this would lead to cursor freezing.

  • Satellite Pro L850-1P8 PSKG7E - Unable to see any BT devices

    Hi
I have a Satellite Pro L850-1P8 PSKG7E- 00C002EN. I initially had a problem with the software recognizing the hardware. Resolved by re-installing the Atheros filter driver. Now everything say it is working and the latest drivers are installed.
I have a phone, a Nexus 7, a car and PV array that all see each other using their BT and will pair.
The PV array links to a PC based application via bluetooth which worked on a previous works Tosh Satellite Pro.
The laptop refuses to see any of the devices despite everything saying it is working properly and all other devices being visible to each other.
    BT RFBUS Toshiba 8.0.2005.0
    BT RFCOMM Toshiba 8.0.1129.0
    BT RFHID Toshiba 8.0.830.0
BT RFUSB Controller 14 Toshiba 8.0.2005.0
As far as I can see there is no BT entry in the BIOS.
I have tried the FN F8 in both states.
Can anyone give me any guidance?

When you want to use BT on your notebook it is important to enable BT module properly. I presume it works with FN+F8. When the BT is on BT manager should start and in the task bar you should see small blue BT symbol.
When you enable BT does this manager start or not? Click on this symbol with right mouse button and choose option Add new connection. Scan the area and I hope your device should be found (enable visible modus).
You are right about BIOS. There is nothing related to BT functionality.

  • Satellite Pro L850 (PSKG7E)

Dear Toshiba Please be advised that I has installed Windows 10 on the aforementioned model, abeit, that this model is not presented as being compatible with the upgrade, even though the machine is i5 core 64bit and a couple of years old.  I have checked both the global list and the UK list and it appears that the L850 range is completely omitted? Is that an error, or is there a specific reason for that? The only slight issue I am encountering at present is with the optical drive, although at the time of writing I am not 100% certain that the issue is with the optical drive because the error message provided by 'windows' refers to the MS installer not being located, which I am yet to further my investigation into that particular glitch. If Toshiba's previous test indicated problems with the 'Satellite Pro L850'  and Windows 10 please can Toshiba provide some transparency with an account of such issues, so that I can be forewarned, and roll back accordingly.  Otherwise, if this model is considered to be compatible, it may be an idea to update the compatibility listings. Additionally, if my machine appears to be an unusual exceptance, I don't mind providing some user feedback on my experience of Windows 10 on this model, which may be of some help to Toshiba. Please let me know by reply, private message or email. Thank You.

As far as I know such drivers are offered as optional drivers and you should not install them. Stay with original drivers. Dont update any offered driver via Windows update.
Have you tried to roll back OS to earlier time before this update was installed? If not do it and check functionality.

  • Satellite Pro L850 1DR - Problems with Windows 7 Update KB2887069

I am having problems installing Update KB2887069.
It appears to install okay ... invites me to restart ... when I do it says it is configuring ... gets to 7% then starts the restart ... shows it is configuring again ... up to 7 or 9% ... then reports it is failing and restoring ... restarts again ... and that's it ... not installed and reference to Windows Update confirms it has failed.
All the other updates I had today installed okay once I realised KB2887069 was the problem and omitted it from the update.
I'm running Win 7 Prof Serv Pack 1 - 64-bit on a Toshiba Satellite Pro L850 1DR. I use Microsoft Security Essentials as my AV software.
For now I have had to hide the update ... but anyone any bright ideas how to overcome the problem. I have tried Microsoft's site but as yet there are no answers that have provided a solution for me.
    Thanks in anticipation!!

I am "replying to myself" on this one so if anyone else has experienced a similar problem they can see what I did to resolve the matter.
I contacted Microsoft and received excellent support ... although it took a long old time (over the course of 3 days) to resolve the problem, the staff at Microsoft knew their stuff and proceeded tenaciously to overcome every obstacle.
I did feel somewhat sorry for them that one little update should result in the need to offer so much commitment to just one customer ... I was also grateful the resolution was achieved over a time when I was not that busy!
Additional Info: I refer above to 3 days ... for those interested, the time was spent as follows:
Day 1: about an hour and a half covering all the basic checks including sfc /scannow etc after which the update would still not install. (I had done these but accepted Microsoft needed to have the opportunity to check the situation for themselves).
Day 2: a technician called me at a pre-agreed time and having done a few more checks decided to re-download Windows 7.1 (over 3 GB ... on my connection that took a long time) and re-install it (without affecting my data, thank goodness ... but again the process of installation took a long time). The technician left me to do all the updating (a further 3-400MB). Time commitment for me about 5 hours ... but I was able to work on other things while the download, install etc was on as long as I kept half an eye on the screen.
Day 3: the same technician called me back (just when he said he would) ... told him I had no problems with updates (incl KB2887069) but was getting a weird message in Outlook when following hyperlinks and also I could not install IE11 for some reason. Both problems were resolved and other tiny matters sorted over the course of one hour.
Summary: problem therefore took up to 7.5 hours of my time to overcome, approximately half of which I was able to turn my attention to other things on another machine. In my view an acceptable investment of time to have the peace of mind of knowing everything is working just as it should be. I was impressed with Microsoft's staff who were as reliable as they were friendly and patient.

  • Satellite Pro L850 PSKG9A: cannot change brightens after wake up from sleep

    Hi guys,
Have a problem with my Toshiba Sat Pro L850 PSKG9A-00C001
Every time i close my laptop screen and put computer to sleep and Then Wake it up again,
My screen is at MAX brightness (Blinding nearly) and i cant change it with my keyboard shortcuts and it says brightness is at Level 1!?
    PLEASE HELP THANKS

I found an interesting Toshiba document:
+Display can either be set to the maximum or minimum brightness and brightness regulation do not work properly.+
    http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB2503AH0000R01.htm
It does not describe exactly the same problem with the brightness but it sounds similar to yours.
The issue can be solved by BIOS update.
Could you check if BIOS update would solve your issue?
Additionally its recommended to update the display driver just in case to check it has an influence on the display brightness control.
_Another method to change the brightness:_
From ATI software Catalyst Control Center -> advanced -> desktop properties -> reactivate ATI color commands and then you can adjust the brightness from ATI tools.

  • Satellite Pro L850-1L4 - Can't boot from Win 8 Upgrade Disc

Purchased just under 2 years ago. Came with Windows 8.0 Upgrade DVD.
I now wish to upgrade to Win 8 (then onto Win 8.1).
No matter what I try (BIOS changes) cant get the DVD to boot. Under CSM boot (default for the laptop) it returns a non system disc error.
I have tried the DVD in other PC drives which also results in the same error message.
Other disks eg Windows repair & Tosh recovery disks all boot OK.
So I think the disk must be faulty.
My question is has anyone else had this problem or even successfully upgraded using the Toshiba supplied DVD?. Getting hold of Toshiba to get replacement DVD seems an impossible task especially 2 years down the line.
    Any suggestions?

    Hello Tonny
Thanks for the speedy response. This is my first post and I have already made a blunder the laptop model is L850 whoops (my excuse I'm a septuagenarian!)
For clarification I have the latest BIOS. The boot mode options are CSM (default) and UEFI. Only under UEFI is the secure boot option available but the laptop wont operate set to UEFI. I did set the secure boot off before returning to CSM. This laptop doesnt actually support UEFI, it seems the option is there just to boot a UEFI capable OS. I did try booting the Disk under the UEFI option (with the secure boot on & off) but it didnt work.
So yes the BIOS was set to its defaults with no effect. I have found no web intelligence, generally or with Toshiba, about these upgrade discs.
The thread you provided is interesting and one element about BIOS reset to default I tried but without success.
    Thanks again for your response

  • Satellite Pro L850 wont start up when USB3 cable to Dynadock is connected

    Hello,
I have a new L850 and Dynadock ( PA3927A-1PRP).  The L850 wont start up when the USB 3 is connected and the screen flashes gray then black.  If I remove the USB3 then the L850 will start up and if I then reinsert the cable it continues to start and work fine.
I have uninstalled and then reinstalled the Dynadock viewer drivers from  the Toshiba website.
Perhaps I have the cables in the wrong slots?  It is connected as per the Dynadock quick start guide.
    I would appreciate some assistance.
    Thanks - Mark

  • Memory upgrade on Satellite Pro L40-15d

    Hi
I have Satellite Pro L40-15d with 512 memory (Samsung) but I wont upgrade to 1GB. I have Kingston ktt667d2/1g I have tray to put in to both slots but nothing work I cant switch on computer.
But when I change for old one laptop is ok. What can I do? Install special program or update BIOS or maybe the memory stick is broken.
    Regards

    Hi
    The notebook doesnt boot after the memory upgrade due to these different issues;
    - memory modules are not compatible together
    - memory modules are not compatible with the notebook
    - memory modules are faulty
    - one of memory slots is faulty
In most case the memory module replacement helps.
One hint; did you try to switch the memory modules in the slots? Sometimes this helps.
Several weeks ago I have updated my memory and the notebook didnt boot.
I thought its a memory malfunction but after module switching the notebook booted correctly.
    Good luck

This is a very common problem on 32-bit Windows. A TimesTen datastore is a single region of 'shared memory' allocated as a shared mapping from the paging file. In 'direct mode', when the application process(in your case either ttIsql or the JVM) 'connects' to the datastore the datastore memory region is mapped into the process address space. In order for this to happen it is necessary for there to be a free region in the process adddress space that is at least the size of the datastore. This region must be contiguous (i.e. a single region). Unfortunately, the process memory map in 32-bit Windows is typically highly fragmented and the more DLLs that a process uses the worse this is. Also, JVMs typically use a lot of memory, depending on configuration.
Your options to solve this are really limited to:
    1. Significantly reduce the memory used by the JVM (may not be possible).
    2. Use a local client/server connection from Java instead of a direct mode connection. To minismise the performance overhead make sure you use the optimised ShmIpc connectivity rather than TCP/IP. Even with this there is likely to be a >50% reduction in performance compared to direct mode.
    3. Switch to 64-bit Windows, 64-bit TimesTen and 64-bit Java. Even without adding any extra memory to your machine thsi will very likely fix the problem.
Option (3) is by far the best one.
    Regards,
    Chris

  • TimesTen not releasing shared memory even after DB destroy

    Hi,
After TimesTen DB is destroyed, the shared memory allocated to DB is not getting released by system.
We are using TimesTen Release 11.2.1.7.0 (64 bit Linux/x86_64)
We need to do a system reboot for clearing the shared memory (stale) usage by TimesTen.
Please let me know what is the issue here.
    Regards
    Pratheej

    Hi Pratheej,
How are you actually destroying TimesTen? are you using ttDestroy? It looks like you maybe forcing a shutdown of the TT master daemon? In which case current connections won't be aware the master daemon has gone until they next try to access TT in the meantime they can keep the shared memory segment in-memory.
Take a look at ttStatus to see what connections are open. Disconnect them all by default TT will then come out of memory then you can use ttDestroy.

  • Memory upgrade on Satellite Pro A200

Have two Satellite Pro A200 #PSAE1E-00T002EN laptops and wanted to know if I can upgrade the 2 x 1GB memory to 2 x 2GB?

As I understand you request, you want to upgrade the notebooks memory to 4GB.
Well, I think its not possible.
The Satellite Pro A200 supports max 2GB RAM (2 x 1GB) so you will be not able to use 2 x 2GB modules.

  • Memory Upgrade on Satellite Pro A10

Can anyone advise me as to the correct RAM type to upgrade my Satellite Pro A10. Its a standard 256mB at the minute and I'm thinking of slotting in an additional 512mB next to it - but am bemused by the array of memory types and nomenclatures - DDR - SODIMM etc !!!
Handy with the screw drivers but not so hot with the acronyms. Many thanks to you all out there who know the score!

    Hi
I understand you very well and sometimes Im also a little bit confused because of the whole notations in the computer world.
The Sat Pro A10 supports 200-Pin PC2700 (333Mhz) DDR SODIMM modules and you can upgrade the memory on this notebook up to 1024MB (2 x 512MB)
You could check this memory module page:
