Satellite Pro M - Can the screen be repaired?

The connection to the screen of my satellite pro has been damaged; it works perfectly if held at the right angle with some pressure to the screen with one thumb - otherwise it is illegible / appears as scrolling horizontal lines.
Otherwise the computer is fine and I'd like to get it repaired . is this possible and where should i get it repaired?

Hi
Of course the screen can be repaired but have you checked an external monitor? Can you notice the same issue there?
I think its also hard to say what part of display is exactly defective. You can contact an authorized service provider. The technicians can help you can check your notebook. I think this would be the best option. ;)

  • Hello All, I have a Model - MacBook Pro Laptop and the screen recently turned grey giving me zero visibility or access to the computer. Has anyone else seen or had this problem? Is it fixable or should I get a new unit?

    Hello all,
I have a Model - MacBook Pro Laptop and the screen recently turned the colour grey, giving me no visibility or access to the unit.
Has anyone had or seen this problem before? Can it be fixed? I had a repair guy from my local Mac Store take a look at it - he said I needed a whole new screen and top of the computer, but this didn't fix the problem. I took the unit home unrepaired, and a week later it was all of a sudden working fine.
What is happening with my Laptop? Once this happens (grey screen) does it mean that it's going to become a chronic problem?
    Please advise....Thanks

It's kind of difficult to diagnosis your problem without a visual clue, because there is a (mostly) software based "gray screen" at boot issue.
But if you got the screen replaced, took it home and now it works, why the repair shop didn't get it working before it left the store is beyond me.
Unless the repair shop is a authorized apple reseller/repair, I wouldn't have taken it to them, and of you did, they should have fixed the issue right away.

  • Satellite Pro P100: Is the extended warranty available?

Hi, just about to buy a Satellite Pro P100, however when looking at the warranty I can't see this model on the list of machines covered by the extended warranty available from Toshiba.
    Any ideas ?
It makes me slightly nervous if Toshiba don't cover this model for extended warranty.

    Hi,
Yes the Satellite Pro 100 was the one, following link:
    http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/model_index_page.jsp?service=UK&ID=2327#satpro_p10 0
I believe it's fairly new, however when I go to the Toshiba support page and follow the link for extended warranties it doesnt appear on the list of machines that are covered.
I'm looking to buy this machine as a desktop replacement, however I did read a report on Zdnet Australia which gave reader comments on build quility and reliability which concerned me abit.

Other option on my list is a one non Toshiba notebook, however they are currently using an ATI x1400 graphics card - I'd sooner opt for Nvidia.

  • Can the screen from a 20" 2004 be used to replace a broken screen in a 2006?

I have a 2006 iMac G5 with a broken screen (20").  I also have a 2004 G5 with a bad video card.  Can the screen from the 2004 fit into the 2006 as a replacement?

You need to be able to:
    - Read those files from your old machine.
    - Transfer them to the new machine.
Unless you were intending to buy an external drive anyway, you don't need to buy the external drive just to transfer files. As long as your old machine is connected on the same network, you can transfer the files using Network File Sharing from your PC to your Mac.
I would however recommend purchasing the drive to use for backups with your Mac. Time Machine on Mac makes backups a breeze.

  • Satellite Pro L20 -can anyone tell me whether I have a problem with screen?

    Hi,
I have a Pro L20 - PSL25E and i have recently been having problems with the screen, it has been intermittently flickering/losing colour and almost whiting out (when the colour fades white vertical lines start to appear).
This seemed to become worse after i dropped it (only from about 2 feet off the ground not a big drop).
I thought the sceen may be going, but the perfomance of the laptop seems to be affected when this is happening, the laptop has started to run very slow (the mouse tracks slow, programs I've clicked take ages to run and it sometimes freezes until it stops flickering) which had me thinking it might be a virus or perfomance issue.
My screen drivers are up to date, i ran a full scan with McAfee, ran a system clear-up and a defrag.
I was wondering if anyone knew whether this seemed like a problem with the screen connections and would need replacing or whether it could be repaired, or whether it was a perfomance issue?
Any help would be much appreciate thanks!
    Rebecca.

Sounds like the Graphics chip has a problem, which I think is a Mainboard replacement.
You can get a quote for the repair at an Authorized Service Provider. There is an ASP list on the Toshiba website.

  • Can watching videos too often on Macbook Pro "wear down" the screen?

I watch most of my TV shows on my new macbook pro, and my mother just informed me that if you watch videos too often on a mac, that the screen can apparently wear down and die. Is this true? I'm not sure exactly what she meant by that or what could happen to my computer, but it doesn's sound exactly correct. Thanks!

Back in "the old days" when we all had green letters on black screens like in "War Games" (Matthew Broderick and Ally Sheedy) there were problems with "burn in" which was caused by the fact that only certain parts of the screen got used because the displays were text only. This is kind of like a prehistoric version of the problem with early plasma displays. Efforts to save CRT screens led to the creation of the ever-popular "Screen saver."
Most moms don't track display technology, so the notion remains that all video monitors are just shinier versions of last century's 15"/50 lb. wonders. Not so. Today's monitors will wear out, but most will be killed by their users long before that. Modern monitors CAN go off in color, loose brilliance, etc. over time  but not specifically from movies.  Notice I said movies, not video. The way we use computers these days, pretty much everything is video.
    Keep calm and surf on.

I've got Satellite Pro A200-PSAE7 with ATI HD2600 Mobility Radeon. I've downgraded to XP SP2. I get blue screen saying that ati2dvag went infitive loop quite constantly. Any solution to this?
Offtopic: Why standart display drivers from ati.com does not work? (while on my friends laptop with also hd2600 mobilty radeon works fine).

    > I've got Satellite Pro A200-PSAE7 with ATI HD2600 Mobility Radeon. I've downgraded to XP SP2. I get blue screen saying that ati2dvag went infitive loop quite constantly. Any solution to this?
Usually the BSOD appears due to the serious software issue or hardware malfunction.
In my opinion its a software (driver) issue.
I presume the BSOD appears why playing some games in most cases the graphic driver must be updated.
If the XP driver from the Toshiba page will not help you could try the graphic drivers from the www.omegadrivers.net site. The 3rd party drivers should run on your notebook. But note; 3rd party drivers can be used only at your own risk!
    > Why standard display drivers from ati.com do not work? (While on my friends laptop with also hd2600 mobility radeon works fine).
The original ATI drivers cannot be installed on a easy way because such drivers dont support an overheating protection. The Toshiba GPU drivers are a little bit modified and support an overheating protection. Such protection is necessary and important because the notebook graphic cards are not equipped with huge cooling module like the GPUs on for the desktop PCs.
The temperature increases on the notebooks much faster and therefore the graphic driver have to control the GPU performance to decrease the internal temperature.
Therefore its always advisable and recommended to use the Toshiba drivers ;)

  • Satellite Pro L300 1AI LCD screen backlight not working

    Hi All,
I have a Satellite Pro L300 1AI running Windows Vista the computer boots up and works fine but the backlight on the screen does not appear to be working.
Are there any settings in Vista that can affect this (other than the Fn key command on the keyboard and the settings in Control Panel)? Strangely it only seems to have happened since i installed Skype but I can't see how that could possibly affect it.
    Any help is gratefully appriciated...

    Hi
Whats wrong exactly? Is notebooks display brightness too low?
Do you see everything on the screen like behind a thick fog?
Well, usually the FL inverter controls the display backlight and if the FL inverter starts to malfunction then you would get the problem like this one.
There is no other solution as to replace this FL inverter.
Its a tiny part behind the display frame I think its a job for an ASP technician

  • Satellite Pro M40 - touchpad and left click repair guidance

    Hi,
I have a problem with the left click of my Satellite Pro M40 (PSM46E). It has lost the 'click'.
Does anyone have some guidance for taking the top off to repair? What screws and how etc?
    Many Thanks

    Hi!
I think you will not get some guides because only an ASP (authorized service provider) has someone. These documents are not for the public.
I dont know how to disassemble the notebook but this procedure is tricky. You must remove a lot of screws and parts like keyboard, LCD, upper cover and so far.
*You can try it and try but its your own risk*. I think this should do by a notebook technician.
By the way, I founded a maybe interesting article for you:

  • Re: Satellite Pro A40 - Can't find boot order in BIOS

Hi, we have a very old Satellite Pro A40 with a new hard drive.
We're tryng to change the boot order in BIOS to recognise the CD drive ready for the windows disk. However, there seems to be no option to change the BIOS boot order and yes we've tried the Toshiba route which suggests pressing C during boot up and F12 to select the drive during boot up, neither of which work.
    Please can someone help?
    regards
    Karl
PS: The current message on the screen during boot up is BOOTMGR is missing

    Hi karl1966,
Have you checked if the CD/DVD drive is recognized properly in BIOS?
Maybe your disk is scratchy and you should try another one. I dont know which disk you have used but try it with Toshiba recovery disk and Microsoft Windows disk.

  • Satellite Pro L500 - Can't install Realtek LAN driver

    Hi All,
I have recovered a Satellite Pro L500 Windows 7 pro with disc created from notebook, but now can't install a Realtek LAN driver for the notebook.
The software driver installer dosn't seem to run correctly all the time, have tried several times to install, with only once a realtek "repair" option becoming available.
When I did manage to install driver I got a error "device failed to start". after recovery I also had problems with a "PCL simple communications controller driver",
which seems to have been a Intel MEI according to the VEN, DEV info displayed in systems info.
Are these problems related and how do I Install the required driver in a automated system if the system won't detect the hardware correctly?

Have downloaded from many sources the correct driver, but the motherboard or the OS is not discovering the network adaptor so even if the driver is installed the divice is not recognised as being there(physically installed). when installing the driver software i get the error from the realtek installer "Realtek network controller was not found. If in deep sleep mode is enabled please plug the cable". have no idea what or how deep slee is enabled and have reset bios settings to default and have reset cmos.

  • Satellite A660 - Lines on the screen

    Hi all,
I've noticed just recently that when I turn my laptop on there's a strip of what looks like a line of black smudge. Furthermore, I've got lines everywhere that renders it almost impossible to see!
Now there's no way in hell I've dropped it, nor have I left anything on the laptop at all, and when I checked there wasn't any visible cracks on the screen. In regards to proper maintenance, I use it a hell of a lot at Uni but I usually carry it around in a laptop bag which has a compartment for it, I turn it off whenever I'm not using it and I certainly do go dropping it or leaving anything on it that could cause it to crack.
What the hell has happened? Could it of cracked internally? And if so, how the fudge did that happen w/out any force? Unless there might've been some trauma that I didn't know about, but seeing as it happened about 45mins after I last turned it off and turned it on AND it being in the same spot I left it which was on my computer desk, I'd say that's a farfetched possibility.
I bought this September 29th last year so I'm still covered by warranty. I checked online that I have an "International Limited Warranty". Is that the standard warranty? I checked also if the screen is covered by warranty and it says in the "WHAT IS NOT COVERED" that:
"Damage caused by accident, intentional or accidental misuse, abuse, neglect or improper maintenance, use under abnormal
conditions, including fracture or damage to the LCD (screen), casework, cables, AC Adaptors, keyboard keys, covers, plugs
    and latches."
So seeing as it probably falls under "accident", that means it's not covered? That's bollocks. Surely there's a way that this could be covered under warranty? I'm not in any sort of position to go spending another big buck to get this thing repaired...
I bought this from Harvey Norman, Australia which is a well-known retailer for these sorts of products.
Any help is great help and I look forward to your replies.
    Kind regards,
    Charles.
    Toshiba Satellite A660.

    Hello
Are you sure this problem is related to internal screen? Theoretically it could be the graphic card itself and you can check this by connecting an external monitor. If you can see the same lines on it its graphic card itself, otherwise the internal screen.
But I think in both cases you need professional help from an authorized service provider. The guys can check your notebook, order new spare parts and replace them for you. Also they can give you an exact answer if this is covered by warranty or not. Here in forum we can only speculate about this and its user to user forum only.
So get in contact with an ASP in your country. Im sure the problem can be fixed with the guys as fast as possible. :)

  • Satellite Pro M50 - Need the MODEL number

    Hi everyone,
I am new to this so please bear with me.I am looking to sell my Satellite Pro M50 and need the model number to list it correctly.
Where can I find this number please.
    Thanks Keith.

    Hi again
Well, as far as I know the Satellite Pro M50 belongs to the PSM55E series.
Some of the Pro M50 have been equipped with the CELERON Mobile-360 (DOTHAN-CELERON 1.4Ghz) CPU, 14 WXGA screen, 256MB RAM, ATI Mobility Radeon 200M 128MB shared graphics, 40GB HDD
Of course there are Pro M50 units with faster CPU (1.5Ghz instead of 1.4Ghz), bigger RAM (512MB) and bigger HDD 60GB.
I think you should install an hardware diagnostic tool like Everest Home edit which would scan the hardware parts. Then you could get all details about built-in parts
