Satellite Pro M10 - start up problems

Hi
I have a Satellite Pro M10, only 2 years old, but has big start up problems at mement.
The message that comes up when turning it on is:
"Intel (R) Boot Agent FE v4.1.09
Copyright (C) 1997-2002, Intel Corporation
PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
PXE-MOF: Exiting Intel Boot Agent.
Insert system disk in drive.
press any key when ready......"
Now I have spoken to a few people and they all say I need a new hard disk etc..., but I can't see how you replace this as it looks like it is built in rather than something than can just be pulled out.
Also I don't have a system disk, and the guy that supplied it to me has decided not to return my emails?
Can anyone help please?
Chris

Hi,
Your original error messages indicate that your laptop is unable to boot from the hard drive, so the BIOS search order will then force a boot from the CD drive. This is why it is asking fro a disc to be inserted.
Since you cannot boot into safe mode then I must presume that your hard drive is corrupt in some way, so the next option is to restore the hard drive from your recovery CDs. Note that this will reformat you hard drive and you will lose any data on there which has not been backed up.
To use the recovery CDs simply insert the first CD into the CD drive and power attempt to reboot the laptop while holding down the 'C' key on the keyboard. (This may be different for your CDs but it is the "C" key on mine).
Then just follow the on-screen prompts to start restoring your hard drive.
With regard to your question about the 'system disk', this can be any bootable CD that you may have. Some can be supplied by third party products (such as Norton Ghost) or may be created yourself for subsequent use. Your product recovery CDs are also bootable so you may be able to user the first of them at this prompt.

  • Satellite Pro M10 cannot start properly - AC LED blinking orange

    Hello
    I've a weird problem which I can't solve.
    1) When my Satellite Pro M10 has the AC adapter connected and battery, the AC led is green and battery led is orange.
    2) When I try to turn it on, many times it will not turn on and the leds dissepear for 1 or 2 seconds and my AC led is blinking in orange. Sometimes it will turn on like it should be.
When this problem appears it will take a lot of time before it will turn on normally. I've been searching on the internet for a solution, but I couldn't find one.
I allready removed the battery and try to turn it on, but it won't solve the problem. Neither when I remove the AC adapter and try to start it on the battery itself.
I also removed both of them and pressed the power-on-button for 60 seconds. After that it will start sometimes with the AC adapter or battery.
My bios is updated to the latest version. (I did this when it booted just 5 minutes ago, but the problem ain't solved). I do also think that when the m10 is on and when I close it, it will also hang.
Do somebody know how to solve this poblem? Thanks in advance.

It is very unusual issue and without precise tests it is not easy to say what the problem can be. I hope you use original AC adapter.
According to your description the board power supply electronic is somehow confused. When you remove battery the notebook should start normally and power LED should show permanent AC connection. In your case the problem can be contact between AC/DC in port and mainboard or power supply electronic itself. I am really skeptic you will be able to do something alone without service.
I recommend you to contact them and explain the situation. The addresses you can find on http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Support & Downloads.

  • Satellite Pro M10 will not boot again and comes up with the error message

My Toshiba Satellite Pro M10 notebook will not boot again and comes up with the error message "load error" when I push the power button.
The problem arised after installation of "symantec system works" and trying to restart windows XP professional to make the installed program executable.
What can I do to get the notbook restart again?

    Hi everyone
If you cannot acces to the boot menu by pressing F8 you can try to recover the the master boot record from Windows Xp professional installation Cd, to do this:
Attention: don't run these commands if you have more than one operating systems running in your laptop.
Boot from Windows Xp installation cd
Choose repair installation from console by pressing "C" key.
A console will open asking you for administrator password, insert the password and press enter.
Run de command: FIXMBR (It will write a new boot record)
Run de command: FIXBOOT (It will write a new boot file)
Restart the laptop and now windows should start without problems.

  • Need help with installing new hard drive in Satellite Pro M10

    Hi All,
My hard disk died in my Satellite Pro M10 so I decided to fit another.
It fits fine in the caddy but just doesnt want to slot into place correctly as something seems to be stopping it.
Does the M10 only accept a certain make/model?
Also does anyone know what the highest capacity the M10 will accept?
    Many thanks.
    Regards
    J

As far as I know there should not be problem at all. Take old and new HDD and compare the connectors. I hope they are the same. I can just imagine the new HD is not placed properly in the HDD bracket. Be sure the new one is placed as old one after removing it from the notebook.
About max HDD capacity there is no precise info and we can just speculate about it. Try to use search option on this forum. Maybe someone already wrote about HDD upgrade on Sat/Sat Pro M10.
The fact is that Satellite Pro is delivered with 30, 40 and 60 GB HDDs. How many GB has your new HDD?

  • Satellite Pro M10 freeze and crash with some programs

    Hi
    I have a Satellite Pro M10...
a few weeks ago it's freeze and crash with some programs like wmpayer, messenger... I delivered it in the authorized agent and they had not detected no problem.
Already I formatted it some times, but the problem continues.
Some ideia of what it can be?
    Thanks

    Hello,
Sounds to me like you could have a Motherboard problem. Formatting it takes away the chances of it being a software issue. Try taking out 1 stick of ram and testing it with that. If it continues to crash, take out that stick and try the other one. If it does it with both RAM then those are ok. HDD is not the culprit, so now it could either be processor or MB. Find a program to measure the heat of the notebook and run some heavy programs to make it overheat. If the temperature goes up and then it crashes, it could just be overheating. If it continues without overheating you either have a problematic CPU or MB. Hope this helps.

  • Satellite Pro M10: image on the screen is very dark

I have a Satellite Pro M10 Notebook that has a black screen, i.e. the back light doesn't work. There is an image on the screen but it is very dark. When connecting an external monitor I get a normal image on that monitor.
From information gathered from other posts here I conclude that there is a problem with the backlight of the lcd screen or the inverter. I checked all connections, but that didn't solve the problem. If I bring the laptop to a service center what will it approx. cost to have it repaired? The thing is 2-3 years old, so if it is very expensive I might better get a new laptop.
I'm sure I will be able to change to inverter board myself, but how will I be able to determine that the inverter is the problem? How to obtain a new inverter? Does anyone of you know the right product number?
My Pro M10 itself has product number PS630E-G205Z-DU.

    Hi
I agree with Tobi. You description sounds like a faulty FL-inverter.
This part is placed behind the LCD screen under the lid cover.
As mentioned this part isnt very expensive and you could order it from the Toshiba service partner in your country. But please note that if you have no replacements experiences so you should ask the technicians for the help.

  • Satellite pro M10: CPU cooler troubles

    Hi
    I'm using a Satellite pro M10 1.5G.
The cpu-cooler or ventilator, makes a strange noise. It sounds like some playcards between the wheels of a bike. It's very anoying. The pc isn't so quiet as he was before.
    What can I do?

    Hi,
It sounds as if there is something caught in the cooling fans which is catching the fan blades. Visually check the fans through the air intake grilles to see if you can see anything.
Unfortunately access to the fans will involve some dismantling so I would try sucking any debris out of the fan intake grilles with a vacuum cleaner.
If the problem still persists it may be necessary to take the unit to an Authorised Service Agent for the cooling fans to be checked/replaced.

  • How to remove the BIOS password on Satellite Pro M10

    Hi
any body can help me to fix my problem with my Satellite Pro M10?
    Need power on password.
I try to entering the old password but it can't accept.
I was trying to used dongle with DB25 port, but it can't successfully.
I have removed the BIOS battery; not my problem out
There is any body can help me?
    thank's
    Irwan

    Hello Irwan
As you can see there is no much to do and only service can help you. I am really wondering that people here believe that removing CMOS battery will help. It is not the desktop and some things on laptops work a little bit different.
One more thing for you and all people who want to remove BIOS alone. BIOS password removing procedure is not the same for all notebook models. For some models it is so complicated and works similar like on mobile phone. To delete existing password you need to enter special generated code using special tools.
Please contact nearest service provider in your country and they will help you. If the notebook is your private property and if you are owner it should not be the problem.

  • Max screen resolution LCD Satellite pro M10

hi, sorry for my poor english, my question is:
The max internal LCD resolution for the satellite pro M10 notebook is 1024x768? excluse te superior resolution with scrolling?
I Have read in the tecnical specific of my notebook that the internal max resolution is 1280x1024 is not really?
    thanks

    Hi
As far as I know the display resolution depends on a display controller
I found this information in the user manual. The following models are available:
    -14.1 XGA with 1024 x 768
    -15.0 XGA with 1024 x 768
    -15.0 SXGA+ with 1400 x 1050
    -15.0 UXGA with 1600 x 1200
I think in this case your unit has a 14.1 or a 15.0 XGA display controller. Well, in my opinion its all right with your notebook. Enjoy it :)
    Bye

  • Satellite Pro M10 Fn-F5 not working after login???

Im hoping someone can help me. Im totally confused.
Im running a projector off of a Satellite Pro M10. The Fn-F5 works perfectly all the way up until the CTRL - ALT - DEL prompt. Even at this point I can still Fn - F5 and flip through the settings. As soon as I login the FN - F5 doesnt do anything? I have removed all the monitors, reinstalled the video card with the latest driver and installed the Device Function key utility from the website?
I am assuming it must be something with the display settings once the user logs in but I cant work it out? I have tried taking the setting down to the basic 16bit and 800 x 600 but it makes no difference?
Any help or pointers would helpful?
    Thanks
    Mark

    Hi
Sorry but you posting is a little be confused.
The FN+F5 combination allows you to switch between display devices. You can choose an external monitor, TV etc.
If you want to use the FN keys you have to install the Driver for Toshiba Display Devices Change Utility (Display Device Change) and the Hotkey Utilities for Display Devices.
These both applications are responsible for the correctly usage of the FN+F5 option.
The display graphic driver has nothing to do with the FN+F5 keys.

  • Need repair manual for Satellite Pro M10

Can any body help me to find a manual repair Satellite Pro M10 ,
    thank's
    irwan

Dont think that anybody here will be able to help you and to get any links to the repair manuals.
Fact is that such manuals are not for public usage; just for the Toshiba authorized service providers.
So if you need a help you should contact the ASP in your country.

  • Satellite Pro - Slow start up and sound is messed up

I have had my *Toshiba Satellite Pro* with *Windows XP* for a good few years now. She has always worked like a gem and has given me no problems until a few weeks ago.
A few weeks ago I was downloading a program and with it came the very unwanted and unliked "Antivir Solutions" virus. I did everything I could to get rid of this disaster (thanks to the help of support forums) and I think I managed to get rid of it, but ever since then my computer has not been the same.
I was having trouble downloading a PDF document a few days ago and it froze so I tried to restart which caused the computer to have a hissy fit, deleting my user account which meant I had to set all that up again from scratch. And, now, the computer takes a good 45 minutes from the time you press the "ON" button to when it is ready to start working. Not to mention, it takes a good 10 minutes each time you click an icon for the program to actually start..
I have tried defragmenting the system and have tried uninstalling unused programs to speed the computer up, but it hasn't worked.
I have also run several antivirus programs (such as Norton, AVG and Microsoft Security Essentials) to make sure I have no nasties messing me up, but they come up clean.
May I also add- The sound is messed up also. Whether I use the inbuilt speakers or external speakers the sound is disjointed and broken. As is any Video I play.
I just don't know what to do.
I cannot really afford a new computer, but I need my computer to be reliable. I use my computer for 12 out of the 24 hours in each day...
    *What can I do?*

    Hi nicoletrist,
I dont know what notebook you have exactly but I think the slow Windows start is caused due the viruses that you have or had.
Few years ago I had also a virus and it was causing a very slow start up, it did take up to 10 minutes until Windows was loaded and the only solution to get rid of this was using Toshiba recovery disk.
I would recommend the same to you. Use the Toshiba recovery disk to restore factory settings and backup your data because everything on HDD will be deleted.
Im sure after using recovery disk your notebook will run like a charm again! :)

  • Satellite Pro L300 BIOS update problem

I've an Satellite Pro L300 (PSLBHE).

About in 1 min. my laptop screen turned to black but HDD green light flashed and didn't anything about 15 mins. After I pushed the power button and the laptop shutdown. Now if I push the power button nothing happen just blank (black) screen and the HDD flashing light.

    gjon

Problem is that BIOS update is screwed up now. Obviously BIOS update was interrupted and now the BIOS chip is damaged.
    What you can do now?
Unfortunately not much. What you need is professional help so I recommend you to contact nearest Toshiba service and ask for help. Sorry.

  • Satellite Pro U300 Expansion Chassis Problem

    Hello Fellow Users,
I am trying to use an expresscard expansion chassis with my satellite pro. Problem is that in device manager I am getting error code 12 for the PCI bridges in the chassis and error code 31 for the PCI bridge on the card I want to use in the expansion chassis.
I have installed latest BIOS but am unable to resolve the issue.
Express card slot in workstation is fine as I use a 1G Ethernet Express card without problem.
Hunting around the web it looks like the problem is related to the BIOS being unable to handle the number of PCI busses in the system, refer to Microsoft knowledgebase article 942959. This article explains the problem and how to reslove it for Vista and W2008.
I am running XP and the workround they suggest does not work. Upgrade to Vista is not really an option as software I want to use is not release for Vista yet.
My only options left at this stage are fresh XP install to see if it corrects problem, or fresh vista install and hope the drivers/software I want to use will work under Vista.
Has anyone else seen this problem, got any other suggestions.
    Many thanks

    Hi,
your problem is pretty unusal, but what I would like to know is: which model/from which manufacturer is this expansion chassis?
That would be interesting since without knowing from which expansion chassis were talking about it would be hard to find out where the problem exactly could be..
    Greetings
