Satellite Pro M30, Is it recommended to install the new display driver from nVIDIA?

I own a Satellite Pro M30 notebook, which includes a GeForce FX Go5200 GPU made by nVIDIA. On July 27, nVIDIA released a new driver and related software (version 61.77) which, as stated by nVIDIA, fits all its GPUs.
I tried to install this new driver on my notebook (after removing the old driver as instructed by nVIDIA) but it does not install. Does somebody have any idea why?
Why isn't the new driver posted on Toshiba's driver support site for this notebook?

Hi
All drivers are designed and tested for the notebooks and Tom is right about depending on notebook producer. That means that you can find all necessary drivers on Toshiba download page.
As far as I know Toshiba supports the drivers delivered with the unit and updates drivers if needed.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You can install the new hard disk yourself if you want to. You just need a 2'5" SATA II hard drive, which is compatible with your MacBook Pro. You can buy one at OWC > http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/hard-drives/2.5-Notebook/ You can filter hard drives by computer, so press a "Click to view all...", choose your computer in the sidebar and it will give you the compatible hard drives.
There are different brands for the MacBook Pro. The most recommended are HGST and Seagate, which have good reputation. A 7200 rpm hard drive will give you extra performance

Go to the App Store and check out the Purchases List. If iPhoto is there then it will be v9.6.1
If it is there, then drag your existing iPhoto app (not the library, just the app) to the trash
Install the App from the App Store.
Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.

One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

  • HT201250 My macbook pro crashed and I had to install a new hard drive. I restored from Time Machine backup all the files from my old hard drive onto my new one.

Does it really back up the whole new drive or does it only back up what's been added? It seemed like it was doing the whole thing when I tried it. I stopped it. Don't want to use up all the space on my external. Is there something else I need to do or did I mess up by not doing the migrating thing? thanks!

If you installed a new hard drive, it has nothing on it and yes TimeMachine is going to take forever to restore everything back.
I guess you'll have to erase and start over again now.
Too bad, you should have made bootable clones in addition to TimeMachine, they can restore in a hour or two depending upon content, they are also option key bootable.
TimeMachine has to go through and calculate all the files it needs to bring forward, the files are strewn all over the drive. The read heads are moving all over the platters all the time from fast sectors to slow ones, not matching what's occuring on the internal drive.
With a clone the files are defragmented and optimized, the drive reads one file, moves the heads a tiny bit and reads the next all the while transferring exactly to the internal drive, they are more in step with one another, thus it's much faster restoring from a clone than TM.

i see that i have a problem after installing my new hard drive on my macbook pro mid 2009 version. I put a new hard drive, with all of my information from my old drive installed on it, into the computer. but now have the blinking question mark folder. I see that it means that it isn't reading the new hard drive.
did i miss a step between transferring all of my information from my old hard drive to the new hard drive and installing the new hard drive into the computer. I believe that i installed properly. it was quite easy.
    thanks for your help

It means there is no bootable system on the drive. If you still have access to the old drive, then I suggest you boot from it then clone it to the new internal drive. Use OPTION boot to boot from the Recovery HD on the old drive:
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
         1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu then press the Continue
             button.
         2. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
         3. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
         4. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it
             to the Destination entry field.
         5. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to
             the Source entry field.
         6. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Source means the external old drive. Destination means the new internal drive.

  • How do i install a new hard drive using time machine

    Hi there
I have purchased a new 1TB hard drive for my Mac book pro (late 2008) model. I have time machine installaed on a seperate hard drive connected with an airport base station. I do not have the orginal snow leapoard/mountain lion OS CD or DVD. Can someone please tell me the exact steps to install the new hard drive .
    Thanks

You haven't inserted your new hard drive yet?.
    There's two ways
    1. install yourself
    2. or pay someone to install it for you.
If you want to do it yourself go to google and type in "install new hard drive for macbook pro". sometimes it makes a difference what model your macbook which is why i won't provide you a link just in case its the wrong one.
    Its very easy.
    1. remove all screws and the lid.
    2. remove screws from the black bracket which is holding your hard drive in place.
    3. unplug your hard drive.
    4. VERY IMPORTANT (A MISTAKE I MADE). make sure that you remove the external screws from your original hard drive as these screws are the one thing that hold and stabilise your hard drive and stop movement from happening.
    5. insert these external screws to your new hard drive (there are four screws)
    6. insert and plug your new hard drive.
    7. screw the black bracket in firmly
    8. attach lid and insert all screws firmly.

  • Potential Driver Issues with OS Install on New Hard Drive?

I want to upgrade my laptop's hardrive, but my laptop did not come with recovery discs. I did purchase a full copy of Windows 7 Professional, but I have been saving it...for when all else fails, I suppose. Whether I am able to reinstall Win 7 Home or whether I have to install Win 7 Pro, how can I be sure to reinstall all the necessary HP drivers (e.g. trackpad, cool sense, beats audio, etc.) for my machine? Is it best to download the drivers prior to installing the new hard drive and have them ready on a flash drive; or is there an easier method? Thanks.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Yes that is a very good question.
It's very much advised you do a HDD error check, hard drive test from BIOS and SFC scan lastly.
You can then undergo a disk cleanup and disk defragmentation of the HDD & then proceed with backing up or cloning tools.
I do back up regularly into my 2TB external drive using Macrium reflect, AOMEI back upper and also have all my latest drivers downloaded and copied to another USB along with another bootable USB with Windows OS ISO.
Note: I've already created my recovery media after I setup the laptop first time for additional safety.

  • I tried to install a new hard drive using Snow Leopard to back up with Time Machine. When I installed the new HD I installed Leopard (10.5) on it and tried to use time machine to restore the backup I had made using 10.6. Kernel panic screen occurred.

I backed up my system using 10.6 Snow Leopard's Time Machine to an external hard drive. I did this because I purchased a new internal hard drive to upgrade my 2007 White Macbook from 80GB to 320GB. When I installed the new hard drive, I installed 10.4 (Tiger) and then 10.5 (Leopard) and once Leopard was in I tried to use Time Machine to restore my backup from 10.6 (Snow Leopard) and received a kernal panic screen directly after the bootup.
The screen had code asking for 10.6, so does this mean that the computer is searching for Snow Leopard? If so, how can I do this? Will a bootable drive with Snow Leopard on it be able to solve the issue or will I somehow need to find a way to wipe out this new hard drive?
    -Steve

Booting From Snow Leopard Installer Disc
    1. Insert Snow Leopard Installer Disc into the optical drive.
    2. Restart the computer.
    3. Immediately after the chime press and hold down the "C" key.
    4. Release the key when the spinning gear below the dark gray Apple logo appears.
    5. Wait for installer to finish loading.
    Drive Preparation and Installation
    1. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
    7. After formatting is complete quit DU and return to the installer. Install Snow Leopard.

  • Best way to install a new hard drive into a laptop?

what's the proper way to install a new hard drive into a laptop? i've heard that cloning can result in very slow boot up and shut down times, and that the proper method is install the new hard drive, install OSX, and restore data from time machine. comments? thanks very much

Cloning doesn't cause the resulting system to slow down in and of itself, but it does retain any previous problems, which can build up over time and result in poor performance. (The same can be said of installing new system versions on top of old versions.)
A clean OS X installation will give you a clean base to start from. Mass-restoring data and applications will undo some of that benefit, but by no means all.

  • Installing a new hard drive--can I use target drive?

I'm about to put a new hard drive in my Pismo, and I'd like to do it this way:
    a) back up my current hard drive to a G5 iMac using Ethernet and Carbon Copy Cloner
    b) install the new hard drive in the Pismo
    c) move the old data back to the new drive by setting the new drive as a "target" drive and using CCC to transfer the data back via Ethernet.
Am I missing anything? And in step C, will I have to/can I format the new drive using the iMac and Ethernet?
Any suggestions and/or cautions would be appreciated.
    Pismo 500 MHz, 1 GB RAM, 40 GB   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

You need to use a FireWire cable and FireWire Target Disk mode to do what you describe. Mac OS X cannot be installed over an Ethernet connection unless one of the two machines is running Mac OS X Server or there is a Mac OS X installation on the target computer in addition to the one you will be cloning. The cloning operation will not erase the destination drive, so it may need to be reformatted first; a Mac OS X installation can only exist on a disk which is formatted as Mac OS Extended or UNIX filesystem, and UFS should only be used if you have a specific reason to do so.

  • Satellite Pro M30 graphics card not working when driver is installed

    Hi all,
Im having problem with my nvidia Geforce FX Go5200, in a Satellite Pro M30 laptop, (Intel Pentium M processor 1.7 GHz, 512 Ram). This card was working fine suddenly the notebook stops.
I have formatted the notebook and installed Win XP PRO. After installing the VGA driver I restarted the notebook but black screen started coming up right after the Win XP splash screen appears. The notebook continues to start up but no screen.
It starts just fine in safe mode. I get my best screen by simply disabling the geforce card or uninstalling the driver. I tried to install a new driver for the VGA from the Toshiba download site but same problem appears. I have also tried updating BIOS but nothing happens.
    Anyone can help me?
    [email protected]

It is very strange issue. It will be really interesting to know if this happen when you use delivered recovery installations CD.
Anyway I presume there is some problem with LCD display. In safe mode the desktop is shown in lowers resolution but when OS starts the resolution will be adapted for standard one (1280x800) and obviously there is the problem.
I am not technician but I recommend you to contact service partner. As far as I know they use special tools and programs for display tests. They can tell you more.

  • Satellite Pro M30 - cannot install sound driver

    Hi
I have a Satellite Pro M30 which usaed to work fine but I can no longer install sound card drivers on it.
I THINK it has happened since we reinstalled windows XP Pro with SP2 but can not be certain.
It is trying to install the Sigmatel AVC97 drivers and comes up with the following error.
Invalid operating system parameter or this installer does not support this operating system
Any suggestions as there seems to be only one sound driver for the SPM30 family.

Nobody here have got a problems with sound driver installation just you
So is this not strange for you???
Either you did something wrong or its your windows XP issue.
Please note that the Toshiba driver page provides also the Installation Instructions
There you can find the right installation order!
Install your OS again and follow this instruction in this doc!

    Hi all
I have a Satellite Pro M30 Modell Nr.: PSM35E and have just changed to Windows 7. But the Nvidia Card NVIDIA GeForceTM FX Go5200 Grafik mit 64 MB RAM does not work properly.
I could find a driver from Vista and installed it, have Aero pics on the desktop, but my webcam does not work on msn messenger and this is the only way for me to see my family.
    Can someone help me?
    Thanks for your help

    Hi
Im a little bit confused; do you have some problems with the graphic card or with the webcam?
I assume you are speaking about external webcam connected to the USB port? Right?
What happens if you connect the webcam to the notebook? Can Win 7 recognize the connected device? Did you install additional drivers for this webcam?
In most cases its necessary to do that because I think its not plug & play device.
