Any idea?
thanks!
ronald

To malossi:
You dont have the similar problem because the user above cannot read and burn ONLY the original DVD movies!
> i am able to boot from dvd, read dvd data, burn cd but, unable to read or burn film data (original);
In your case possibly the drive is dead or not compatible with the media (but I dont think so).
Check this Microsoft site for some general ideas:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/321641/en-us
I have read also that someone was having this problem, and found that going into hardware profiles for the CD Rom that wasn't reading, clicking on the advanced tab, and selecting "PIO only" instead of "DMA if Available" worked in win XP sp2. Maybe you will try these.

  • Need advice about Satellite Pro M40

I wonder if anyone could advise me. We have just purchased 8 Smart boards for our school With these I ordered 8 SatProM40 laptops. When I ordered them I checked the spec as follows
    Toshiba SatProM40 - Celeron M360 1.4 GHz - RAM 256MB - HD 40GB - CD-RW/DVD-ROM combo - Mdm - Lan EN - FAST EN - Win XP Pro - 15.4" TFT.
I checked before I ordered that the RAM was 256 because I had heard that this is the mininimum recommended to run XP.
The laptops take almost 5 minutes to turn on and everything takes an age to work it is really frustrating and they are totally unusable for our school because all the lesson is taken up with getting the computers to run anything.
I checked the System information and found the laptops were running of 192Mb of RAM and rang the supplier. I was told that they used 64MB for the graphics card and therefore they had supplied a 256MB RAM computer.
My question to anyone who can help is:- is this normal practice. If I knew this I would have ordered a laptop with more RAM to compensate.
Any advice that would help us get our children working on their new computers would be gratefully received. Thank you.

    Hi Lisa
In my opinion Satellite Pro M40 is nice unit for school work but I agree with you that 256 MB is really minimum RAM and I recommend you to buy more 256 MB or even 512 MB, depending on your budget.
    Compatible RAM modules are:
    PC2700 256MB (PA3311U-2M25)
    PC2700 512MB (PA3312U-2M51)
Problem is that this unit use shared memory and that means that RAM will be also used for graphic. If there is someone who has good PC knowledge let them check all running processes. Many of them are useless and can be disabled. I have also noticed that preinstalled Antivir application (Norton) slow down running OS rapidly. If all units are not connected to the internet I recommend you to remove it.
By the way: there are many good antivir applications who runs well and dont slow down the running OS.
    Good luck!

  • Satellite Pro M40 hard drive failure - Recovery disc on new drive?

    Hi
My Satellite Pro M40 hard disk has died and I want to install a new drive. Unfortunately my old drive is 60Gig and the Toshiba parts website has only 40 Gig or 80 Gig drives.
Will I encounter any problems with the recovery disc if the hard drive is not exactly the same?
    Your advice would be appreciated.
    C

No, there shouldnt be any problem with the Toshiba recovery CD.
On the recovery CD you will find a Windows OS, Toshiba drivers and utilities and additional software.
These whole applications are packed in image files.
You should only be sure that the HDD is compatible with your notebook and will be recognized in the BIOS.
Then just simply boot from the recovery CD and the installation should start.

  • Satellite Pro M40 - touchpad and left click repair guidance

    Hi,
I have a problem with the left click of my Satellite Pro M40 (PSM46E). It has lost the 'click'.
Does anyone have some guidance for taking the top off to repair? What screws and how etc?
    Many Thanks

    Hi!
I think you will not get some guides because only an ASP (authorized service provider) has someone. These documents are not for the public.
I dont know how to disassemble the notebook but this procedure is tricky. You must remove a lot of screws and parts like keyboard, LCD, upper cover and so far.
*You can try it and try but its your own risk*. I think this should do by a notebook technician.
By the way, I founded a maybe interesting article for you:

  • Satellite Pro A210 DVD Drive not working - error code 39

    Hi All
My Satellite Pro A210 dvd drive is not loading.
When I looked into it it showed an error code 39.
I tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it but it's still not working.
    Any ideas?

    Hi
From my knowledge the error message 39 appears if the CD/DVD drive is not visible in the My Computer.
    You can try this workaround:
Go to device manager and delete the CD/DVD drive from the device list.
Then go to registry (regedit) and remove the upper and lower filters from the key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\ Control\Class\ {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Then reboot the unit and test it again
    I think this should help!

  • Satellite Pro M40: screen stays dark untill Windows has fully loaded

    Hello to all on here.
I have a problem with my laptop. My laptop is a Satellite Pro M40.
When I turn on my laptop I have found the back light will not come on... the screen will stay dark untill it has fully loaded into Windows. I have checked all of my power options and there all fine. Even if I can get to the Bios screen its impossible to read the txt due to no backlight. I have tried holding the Fn & F7.. noy joy.
    Does anyone have any ideas?
    Richard

    Hello Richard
I didnt see something like that before and I am little bit confused why you can not see BIOS settings but running OS. Usage of FN+F7 key combination will not help because this option works just under Windows and not under DOS level.
If possible try to connect external monitor and test it again. Anyway I dont believe that you can fix it on your own. Try please to contact Toshiba authorized service partner in your country. Explain the situation and you will see what they will say.
If you find out something please let us know. It will be really interesting to know why this happen.

  • Satellite Pro M40 - How to wipe the system to new

I am having a lot of trouble with my Satellite Pro M40.
When wanting to click in to the various files an error message comes up and asks me to send an error report. I think i may need to wipe the system to new. Does anyone know how to do this? I dont have the disks that I orgianlly got with the laptop to do this.
    Thanks :D

As you know to open various files you need to use various software. So it will be interesting to know which kind of files you try to open. If you know exactly which software can not be started I recommend you to reinstall it in hope it will work again.
Please think about it at first. If you still want to make clean operating system installation please write again. We will find a way to help you. ;)
    Bye

  • Sat Pro L10 DVD Super Multi Drive

I have a new Satellite Pro L10 with DVD Super Multi Drive running XP Pro. I have not been able to write to the DVD drive - either it does not recognise the DVD in the drive or it blue screens and crashes when I am using the Windows Back-up facility before I can read the error message. I am now getting very nervous as I have not been able to back it up for the 6 weeks I have had it....
I can play pre-recorded DVDs (i.e. movies) in the drive and it can read Cds and some makes of DVD. The manual is singularly unhelpful on how to use/troubleshoot the Super Multi drive

    HI Christine,
Unfortunately not. The Toshiba specification for the L10 simply states that Sonic RecordNow and WinDVD Creator are supplied as bundled software.
    The only options are :-
    1. The software is pre-installed on the hard drive,
    2. The software is provided on the Toshiba tools & Utilities CD
    3. The software is provided on OEM CDs.
Toshiba use a combination of the above three methods depending upon which model of notebook is purchased. On some models item #2 is not supplied but has to be created by the purchaser.
When I bought my A30 it used a combination of #2 and #3 for the bundled software, with Drag'N'drop CD being supplied on the tools and utilities CD but with Microsoft Works and Onenote supplied on OEM CDs. Everything else was pre-installed oin the HD.
It seems strange that you have neither Sonic or Windvd Creator on you system.
It may be worth checking with the people where you purchased your notebook to ensure that they supplied all the necessary bits and pieces.
Sorry I can't be any more helpful but it is very unlikely that both products have been accidently deleted from the system, so the real issue is to locate the original source for them.
    regards,

  • Re: Satellite Pro A300 - DVD drawer does not open most of the time

I have a Satellite Pro A300-1NH laptop. The DVD drawer does not open most of the time. Occasionally it does, but most of the time it does not.
Sometimes if I manage to get a DVD/CD into the drawer to burn something to, the burn works.
Most of the time the computer does not recognise that there is a disc there, and then I can't open the drawer again to get it out.
Can anyone tell a novice what I need to do to sort this out please?

Have you noticed this when you try to open drawer using eject button in the drawer itself?
Almost every player has integrated eject button. Can the drawer be opened using this eject button?

  • Satellite M40X-184's DVD/CD-RW drive unable to read CDs

I have a three month old Satellite M40X-184 with Mat****a UJDA760 DVD/CD-RW drive. Last few days the optical drive is unable to read any type of CDs. But it can read DVDs. Can somebody please tell me what's wrong with it? Is the drive broken? Is it necessary to replace the DVD/CD-RW with a new drive? Thanks.

    Hi
It is not easy to say if the drive is defective but you should anyway contact your local dealer. The warranty is valid and if there is some technical problem the drive will be replaced.
I dont know if this can help but you can try to remove the drive from device manager and restart the unit. The drive will be recognized and installed properly. If there is the problem with original music CDs you should really contact the local dealer.
Before the unit will be checked I believe that the best way to check it properly is to preinstall the unit with recovery media. The same thing will be done by technicians before hardware replacement. If you want you can do it too.

  • No wireless connection - can't get it to work on Satellite Pro M40

Hi First Post So hope I get it right I have Sat Pro M40 A Desktop connected to Router via Ethernet Cable Laptop used in a different room with a wireless internet connection I guess this means I had a wireless network? Re-installed Win XP and Service Pack 2 as I couldn't find Toshiba Rescue Disc Now I have no wireless or sounhd on laptop Something is obviously missing Can't remember what I am meant to do Excuse ignorance but any help would be welcome Thanks I am using the ethernet cable temporarily to get internet access on Sat Pro Thanks Derek

    Hello Derek
If some hardware components in device manager are not preinstalled properly please visit Toshiba download page under http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Support & Downloads.
There you will find all necessary drivers (WLAN and sound driver). When the WLAN card is properly installed you will be able to configure WLAN connection.

  • Unable to read/recognize burned DVDs?

I'm having some issues playing DVDs on my MDD G4. The computer did not come with a SuperDrive, but I installed one myself several years ago. (I'm not remembering the specific brand of the drive I used offhand, but can look it up if it matters.) I moved the ComboDrive the computer came with to the second drive bay.
I'm able to play CDs (store-bought and burned), and store-bought DVDs. But I don't seem to be able to play burned DVDs -- including a pro video I purchased and DVDs I burned myself with this very drive! The computer just doesn't seem to be able to recognize or read the discs, and ejects them (or simply does nothing and the disc doesn't show up in the finder). The problem exists with both drives.
Can anyone help? Thanks in advance!
    Erin

I have a pretty similar problem. I burn a DVD-R with Toast Titanium 8 and right after i burn the DVD it mounts at the Desktop and it shows the data just right.
After I eject and re-insert the same DVD again ..... after several seconds, the drive ejects the DVD.
I have installed 2 drives, a superdrive (Pioneer DVR-160D) and a combo drive (Phillips CDD5301) and the same DVD does not show on both Drives.
If i take the same DVD to my older Powermac (G4-400) which have installed a superdrive (Pioneer DVR-150D) the same DVD mounts right and works without problems.
I really can't find how to resolve this problem.
    Thank you.

  • CD burner unable to read or burn CD's- DVD's play and Burn fine???

My Mac pro is less than 6 months old. I have burned less than 10 CD's since I've had it.
Recently CD's no longer cue up or burn.
The drive just spins then spits it out.
I tried several brands of CD's- all with the same result.
But I can still play and burn DVD without any problem.
Isn't the CD and DVD drive the same drive? Why does it burn one and not the other?
Will Apple send me a new drive? I can't bring it into the shop because I use it everyday for work.
If not I'll eat the cost of a new one- but is it easy to replace?

I just realized that I have the same problem (been a while since I put in any sort of CD, so don't know when it started or what might have triggered it). My Mac Pro's Superdrive recognizes DVDs, blank or not, but no CDs, blank or not, commercial software or burned discs.
Resetting PRAM didn't help. Would like to know if this is a software/settings problem or hardware problem before I take any drastic measures.

If it is a commercial video DVD, it cannot be ripped by iTunes (or any other legal program).
If it is a DVD containing MP3 files, open the DVD in Windows, and drag the files to your desktop.  Then remove the DVD from your computer, and add the files to iTunes the normal way.

  • Satellite Pro L300 - DVD drive error code 10 on Vista.

Can't see DVD drive on "my computer" Under device manager its showing drive but with yellow triange, after looking at info, the device status is "This device cannot start. (Code 10)" tried restarting 2 times. Thats not working.
Also cheaked drivers, on my computer and internet, windows is saying there up to date and im running the latest.
Tried to uninstall drive and restart thats failed.
When instering a disk the drive does move and spin the disk, so im hoping its a technical issue and doesnt need new drive.
    Any help is welcome
    thanks

    Hi mate
Dont worry it seems its just a registry issue.
First of all remove the CD/DVD drive from the device manager list.
Then go to registry and remove the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters values completely from the following registry key:
    +HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contr ol\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}+
    Details here:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/270008/en-us
    Then reboot the notebook.
Wait until the OS has recognized the CD/DVD drive again and check it.
