Satellite Pro P100-465: fans are noisy

Hello,
I have a P100-465 running XP Pro on it. I have had the laptop about 6mths now and the one thing I have noticed about this laptop is that it is SO noisy. When using the laptop the fans go on and off constantly....even if I am not doing anything resource hungry. is this normal? I understand that the machine is powerful but I can't believe this is normal.
I use to have a P25-S670 and the fans use to come on every now and then to keep the machine cool but this new laptop is INSANELY annoying. As I am typing this the fans go on and off every few seconds. It sounds like the fans RPM increases substantially but only for a second or two and then it drops down. In the BIOS I have even set the option to silent mode instead of performance mode but this hasn't made any difference. I am running all the latest drivers and firmware.
Can someone help please as this is driving me NUTS! ;-) Is there a way to control the fan speed/noise from within Windows? I remember on my P25 I could change the power options to silent mode and it made quite a big difference.

Hi mate,
did you already cleaned your cooling system? Maybe that could be the point since such small ventilation systems are susceptible to be clobbed with dust after a while of running.
A idea would be to give your machine to a technician and ask him to clean your machine and to put some new cooling grease on the CPU.
That should help and prevent your machine from overheating or excessive fan noise.
Cheers

  • Satellite Pro P100 GPU Fan off or full speed after Bios-update to 4.20

    Hello,
after installing the brandnew Bios-update 4.20 the GPU fan is when the notebook is cool off. While working with it the GPU temperature rises up to 100C (very very hot), then the fan begins to run on medium speed and the GPU cools down. After a restart, eg. next day, the fan always runs on medium or high speed (very noisy!!). With the the bios version before this problem didn't appear.
Has someone the same problem with his notebook?
Did anyone have the Bios-update before 4.20 and can send it to me???

    Hi all,
I've got a similar problem. After updating the BIOS of my SP P100 (PSPAHE) to 4.2 on of the fans runs constantly. I was very astonished about the WinPhlash Software anyway: I just wanted to see what it looks like, and it started updating BIOS virus-like automatically without any message or confirmation etc.
With the first reboot I got a bluescreen immediately after Vista started booting. With the following reboot, the system started properly - everything seemed to be ok. Since then the system obviously can't control the fan anymore.
The bluescreen-error is reproduceable - it occurs after each trial. I already tried to update BIOS with a freshly installed Vista (Recovery DVD) bfore installing a single problem - same result.
I only see 2 possibilities to perhaps solve the problem: hopefully a re-downgrade to 4.0 can successfully be done. Second possibility would perhaps be to remove Vista and install XP instead hoping that the BIOS update doesn't hang up then.
Unfortunately, the previous BIOS version is not on the support pages. . If anyone gets hold of it pls. post here.

  • Official release of XP and Vista drivers for Satellite Pro P100-465 PSPAEE

When will the drivers be available for both XP and Vista for the PSPAEE? Currently there are drivers for the PSPA4E some of which work, some not, on either operating system. Yes the laptop is preinstalled with the Vista Ugrade and the drivers work but two of the driver apps are blocked by Defender (NDSTRay / ConfigFree and VolControl). I could get no options to enable these (unclassified as yet from MS so they are locked out) I was told to disable Defender by tech-support!
I have tried a clean install of my own version of Vista Business and had driver problems with that as well.
I would like to run XP until Vista is, shall we say, more efficient but would like to use drivers specifically for it so a time-frame would be very useful.
I'd also like to know why there is a plug where a finger-scanner could go underneath the 0 of the number-pad, and a blocked-off lower PCMCIA (PCI-E?) port when neither of these are available as upgrade options? Did I miss those upgrade options or is this a case recycled from another model where they are available? If the latter then that's pretty cheap for a new machine :)

The Toshiba USA site offers comprehensive information on Vista upgrade and drivers for P100/105 machines which include similar ones to those released in the UK/Europe. If you want to be at the bleading edge of technology/take a chance see

  • Satellite Pro P100-465 Vista - video play back stutters, slows down

I'm at my wits end :-(
uninstalled drivers - re installed drivers - updated drivers (nvidia don't even list the 7600 Go graphics card for vista - used other site recommmened in this site) - changed screen resolution, changed screen bits depth, removed anti virus - plenty of system resources available yet on every single video file playback slows down and speeds up or stutters especially bad when i full screen.
Tried different video files and dvds, different codecs and players, vlc, media player classic, neros show time, WMP etc etc all are effected. Seems like others have had similar problems and thought maybe they had some more ideas to solve this one ??
Is there something i haven't tried ? please let me know... thanks for your help

  • Toshiba Satellite Pro P100-465 17" screen.

My Tosh has a vertical  30cm white band  90cm from the right hand side of the screen, the background is normal. If I use an external monitor the picture is ok. I have fitted a new screen, and it is just backlit, putting my old screen back the fault is the same, I’ve refitted the connections to the screen and p.c.b board by the LH hinge, no change. I sent the new screen back and they said it tested ok, so I suspect the wiring! Any other advice would be appreciated.
    Solved!

I have recently bought and fitted a used/tested cable and inverter and the old screen work ok but still has the vertcal white band on the screen. External monitor fine.
Any ideas, but I still suspect the screen.

  • Satellite Pro P100 PSPAEA - Irritating Fan Noise

    Hi,
I have a Satellite Pro P100 PSPAEA and it honestly must be the most irritating laptop I have ever owned.
The problem is the cooling fan that has a tendancy to spin up to maximum regularly, sit there for a couple of seconds then spin down.
Rather than just increasing in speed to cool it kinda roars for a second or two then reduces speed. It can do this like every 15 seconds or so and is driving me nuts especially in a quiet room. I am running Windows Vista and the latest V4.4 BIOS. I am ready to kick this thing out the door and never buy Toshiba again.
But before I do this does anyone know of a solution?
    Thanks

Updating the driver does seem to have fixed the probem.
    Thank you very much!
Now if only I could get VT working the laptops stay of execution could last significantly longer!
I do recommend installing a 7200rpm drive for this particular model. The one Toshiba ships with it is appallingly slow (what were they thinking).

  • Satellite Pro P100 (PSPA4E) - No Sound Following Win 7 Clean Install

Hello, A European friend really struggling and looking for help.
I have just clean installed Win 7 Home Premium (64 bit) on a Satellite Pro P100 (PSPA4E) which was purchased in November 2006. It was previously running XP and I never installed Vista though the laptop is badged Vista Capable) I followed the Win 7 bios/driver/software install order but I now have no sound at all. Everything that I have tried so far has failed to fix it.
The laptop has a Conexant based audio solution with harman kardon speakers. Win 7 has installed the following driver which reports the following info.
High Definition Audio Device (Microsoft Driver version 6.1.7601.17514 dated 11/19/2010) and Device status: This device cannot start. (Code 10)
    Hardware IDs:
    HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_14F1&DEV_5047&SUBSYS_1179FF31&REV_1000 HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_14F1&DEV_5047&SUBSYS_1179FF31
There is a second exclamation mark in Device Manager for a further unknown device / uninstalled driver (showing code 28) for a device with a Hardware ID of ACPI\SMCB000 but I do not know what this device is!
Does anyone have any suggestions on a fix for my sound issue?
    Thanks!
    Martyn

Any one have any thoughts on this issue?
I have failed to locate a working / compatible Windows 7 x64 driver for Conexant HD Audio!
    Perhaps there isn't one?
Perhaps I need to try harder?!?
Perhaps the on board sound solution featuring Conexant HD Audio is simply ****** as on www.conexant.com they say manufacturers have TOLD them NOT to make drivers available (... to poor unfortunate users)!!!
I think that manufacturers need to step up to the plate and support / help their customers.  I own 4 Satellite Pro laptops running Vista x32 and Windows 7 x64. This one cost me well over £1,200 so I don't want to hear or conclude that it is simply scrap!  That would represent truly poor value for money - the kind of business case that would undermine my belief that Toshiba laptops are the best in the business.
Ditto Microsoft - the Windows 7 x64 Upgrade Advisor tool gave me the all clear to upgrade this system.  All generally appears fine EXCEPT the lack of sound.
Having now been exposed to the experience of many other laptop owners set out in various forums etc, covering both Toshiba laptops and some other major brands, I have to conclude that the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor is flawed and that a successful upgrade is somewhat hit and miss affair.  Beware!
That said, still hopeful that someone out there will be able to help me fix this issue?

  • Satellite Pro P100 - Synaptics touchpad issue using Win 7

Satellite Pro P100 with Synaptics touch pad, was running Vista, now Win 7 64 bit.
The original driver had an option "disable when external pointing device connected".
I have installed a driver from Synaptics Synaptics_v14_0_3_C_XP64_Vista64_Win7-64_Signed_default.exe which does not have this check box.
It works fine except that sometimes the Microsoft Mouse turns off and on every few seconds as it or the touchpad fight each. I have to disable the touchpad.
Then next time I turn on. If I do so without a mouse, I cannot use the touchpad, until i plug in the mouse, reactivate, then unplug the mouse.
    Thanks

Sorry, but this problem is reccurring more frequently (like every 2 or 3 days). The driver you recommend does not have the "disable touchpad when external mouse connected", nor does the Fn+F9 button work. Both touchpad and mouse are active at the same time with the result that the mouse becomes active, inactive, active, inactive every few seconds, and is that happens the secondary monitor goes blank (which is normal when new drivers are being installed, such as for an unrecognised flash drive). Thanks.

  • Satellite Pro P100: Where can I find the preinstalled software?

Hi all, i recieved my satellite pro p100-327 today. From what i've read in the manual the recovery cd included is just a copy of windows? If i want to reinstall windows where can all the programs preinstalled on the laptop be reinstalled from? Is there any way to make a boot disk as such?
    Thanks for the help all.

I will try to bring light into this case
The Toshiba recovery CD contains a OEM version of the Windows XP operating system and all the Toshiba drivers, tools and utilities are a part of this CD.
Simply said, after usage of the Toshiba recovery CD you will get the notebook with factory settings.
If you need only the Toshiba drivers or tools you can create a own Tools & Utilities CD.
This option can be found in the Toshiba Assist under --> Protect & Fix -> Create Drivers & tools CD
All the drivers are also placed on the Toshiba driver page

  • Toshiba drivers for WXP and VISTA fpr a Satellite Pro P100 - PSPAH

    Hello.
I need help. I bought a Satellite pro P100 - PSPAH with Vista Premium Home edition as recovery version. Now I want to install a second OS like WXP on this notebook. The problem is that WXP didn't found 3 drivers. For Sound, LAN and a other device. Because of this I update my notebook with the latest chipset drivers, but the problem is still there. Vista has now problems with the drivers, too. I cannot find the special driver on the main page from toshiba.
    mfg jens

    Hi
I understand your problem At this time I prefer also the XP instead of the Vista OS.
The Vista needs simply too many notebook resources and all the applications and 3rd devices are not 100% supported by Vista.
But what to say dude seems you have to search for compatible drivers on chip manufacture sites.
Download and install a tool hardware diagnostic tool called Everest or similar one and try to find out what LAN and sound chips are used in your notebook!
Then you could search for the drivers on Intel, Realtek, etc.. pages
Do you know the Toshiba Canada driver site???
    http://209.167.114.38/support/Download/ln_byModel.asp
There you will also find some Pro P100 series. Try these drivers. It's worth a try.

  • Satellite Pro P100: Is the extended warranty available?

Hi, just about to buy a Satellite Pro P100, however when looking at the warranty I can't see this model on the list of machines covered by the extended warranty available from Toshiba.
    Any ideas ?
It makes me slightly nervous if Toshiba don't cover this model for extended warranty.

    Hi,
Yes the Satellite Pro 100 was the one, following link:
    http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/model_index_page.jsp?service=UK&ID=2327#satpro_p10 0
I believe it's fairly new, however when I go to the Toshiba support page and follow the link for extended warranties it doesnt appear on the list of machines that are covered.
I'm looking to buy this machine as a desktop replacement, however I did read a report on Zdnet Australia which gave reader comments on build quility and reliability which concerned me abit.

Other option on my list is a one non Toshiba notebook, however they are currently using an ATI x1400 graphics card - I'd sooner opt for Nvidia.

  • Satellite Pro P100: Marks on the palmrest

    Hi
I've had my Satellite Pro P100 for barely 6 months now... I've bought it from new and its had a less than average amount of use. Its always been looked after, always kept clean, always take my watch off so it doesn't scratch the surface, etc. etc. But now I've noticed marks outlining where my palms are resting.
I'd expect this of a 2nd hand laptop which gets heavy usage but I wouldn't expect this of a new one!
    http://www.nottingham.ac.uk./~cczcp1/pics/palm-rest.jpg
Anyone else had a the same problem and what's the chances of getting it sorted by Toshiba?
    Cheers for any help.

the coating is very delicate and gets marked easily so when you rest your hands on the area eventually it will leave a mark it can happen within a week of getting a new laptop or years depends on how you rest them its normal and it would not damage the running of the laptop. Nothing no one can do about it, happens eventually.

  • Satellite Pro P100 - Can't connect to Internet via LAN

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro P100. Model No SPSA4A-005002
I used my recovery disk and wiped my computer, because of a virus and now I cant connect to the internet via cable but my wireless internet works perfectly.
Its completely dead there are no lights at the back of the laptop from where I plug the cable in.

    Hi
Is your LAN card recognized properly in device manager?
In your case I would try updating the LAN driver. You can get the latest version here:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Support & Downloads > Download Drivers
Furthermore you check the BIOS version. The latest version should be installed and load the default settings there.
In worst case its a hardware problem and you have to exchange the whole mainboard :(

  • How to connect the Satellite Pro P100 to Hifi

I've got Satellite Pro P100. How to connect this notebook to HiFI
This is probably easy, but what can i say... just call me stupid.
I've got the lead that goes out of the headphone jack, it links up to my hifi nice.
Trouble being, there's a nasty hiss in the background. Tried plugging my boys mp3 player into the lead, and that works fine.
Any chance of some help... thanks

    Hi
In my knowledge you can connect the Sat Pro P100 to HiFi only via a 2-RCA Audio Y cable adapter. In my knowledge the notebook does not support the S/PDIF audio out so you will be able only to use an analog sound port.
You could also buy a stereo adapter with 2x cinch jacks to connect the notebook to the Hifi. Such adapter can be plugged into the headphone jack
    Check this:
    stereo adapter
I think you should visit the nearest notebook dealer. He can show you the right and supported cables and adapters.
