Satellite Pro P200-HD: How to use it with Win XP

I recently got the new Satellite Pro P200 HD from Getech. I asked Getech to change the OS to XP because my university will not support Vista. I was told that some of the functionality will be lost with XP, such as the hot key utility and I accepted to go ahead.
However I wasn't informed that the sound will be scratchy and the video will behave as if I am playing a scratched CD.
This is true with sounds from windows as well. I have not been able to enjoy music or video. I have all drivers up-todate and the new XP Bios released recently has been updated.
Please does anyone know someone using this model with XP as OS with the sound and video functioning properly?
This would mean I have been sold a laptop with a faulty sound hardware and should get a replacement because I have had this problem from day one.
Thanks for the help in advance.
Calvin

I purchased a Toshiba P200-140 pre-installed with Vista and had it changed (I live in Bulgaria) by a local computer technician to Windows XP. The sound and everything else works perfectly and is of excellent quality. The technician did say that he had numerous problems trying to find all the correct drivers, and I am now in the process of trying to get copies of the drivers in case I ever need to re-load XP. Can you tell me where you downloaded the drivers for your laptop, and what drivers are needed please.

the quickfix drivers for win xp on my toshiba satellite pro 2100 doesnt work saying the drivers needs xp without service pack2.
Are there any drivers for winxp service pack 2?

    Hi
The quickfixes (QFE's) are small Microsoft applications which close some security openings in the Microsoft products.
You can install such updates either automatically if the windows will search for updates or you can do it manually from the Microsoft site.
I think you have tried to install not QFE's but drivers which are not compatible with SP2.
Please take a look into the Microsoft Windows XP SP2 Update information which is available on the Tosh page and follow the guide lines

  • Satellite PRO P200 (PSPB7E): LAN trouble Resource Conflict - PCI Network

    Hey,
I have a Satellite PRO P200 and I have some trouble with the lan. (not the wireless one).
When I plug in the network cable, the system want start at all. The blue power let turns on and that's all tha happens.
If i turn the portable off, unplug the cable and turn it on, it starts, but the network adapter is no longer installed.
I already downloaded the Realtek driver for Vista 32 bits from the website, but no difference.
The driver is actually not recognized as being a right driver for the device. I have select the driver manually from a list (using have disk etc..) to get it installed. After the re-installation all the settings of the network adapter in Vista or gone, it always on dhcp.
I already had a blue screen (vista dump), while installing the device.
    And an error:
Resource Conflict - PCI Netword Controller in slot 08
    Bus:04, Device:00, Function:00
Press <F1> to resume, <F2> to setup.
I also tried to turn of the lan as third boot device, but it automaticaly turns on again.
I also tried to update the bios to the latets version, it succeeded (no problem at all), but it did not solve my problem.
    Any idees?
    hardware failure?
I guess it's not possible the switch the lan device?

    Hello
I have read many stories here but your one is really unbelievable. I do not know what is wrong there but try to enter BIOS settings and set it to default. After doing this install OS using recovery media.
Now you you will have clean preinstalled OS and your notebook will have factory settings. Please test the LAN card functionality again. If the problem persists you need professional help.

  • Re: How can I add a second internal hard disk to a Satellite Pro P200?

I have a Satellite Pro P200 with a single internal hard disk. There is a second bay under the computer for another internal hard disk but I have not been able to find any information about it. There is enough space for a 2.5" SATA drive but I cannot see a connector.
I contacted Dutch Toshiba Customer support who said that it was the official policy not to provide any information about a second hard internal disk. They also said that they would not supply any parts to make it possible.
Can anyone provide some more information?

    Hello
I have the same notebook with the same situation. The fact is that covers and the construction for all P200 notebooks is the same but notebooks are delivered with different hardware platforms. Some models are delivered with two HDDs.
Other models (like yours and mine) are delivered with one HDD but without possibility for upgrade with second HDD.

  • Blank screen after display driver update Satellite Pro P200

I installed the latest ATI Mobility Radeon HD2600 display driver (8.432, from the Toshiba site via Tempo) on my Satellite Pro P200 yesterday. On rebooting everything looks fine as far as the Windows Vista Business "Please wait ..." screen, but instead of displaying the login page I get a blank screen (with a mouse cursor that moves around as normal). All I can do at this point is power off, and I've run out of ideas on how to get any further.
    Things I've tried:
    # booting into safe mode, low-resolution video or last known good configuration all result in the same blank screen.
    # connecting to the system using remote desktop (to disable the driver) isn't possible because the system hasn't loaded the network drivers yet.
    # I can't revert to a restore point because Vista can't find any (I made a manual one after installing windows updates on a couple of days ago).
I can run a command prompt from the system recovery options and would prefer to use that to disable the driver +if+ I knew how before resorting to the more drastic options.
A web search (http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=ati+catalyst+vista+blank+screen&hl=en&sa= N) reveals that this has happened on a wide range of laptops with
previous releases of the driver, but none of the links I've looked at give a solution that's available to me.

No joy with an external screen so I bit the bullet and reinstalled from the product recovery disk. I tried expert mode to retain the data partition but that failed twice, so I had to restore it from the previous day's backup after doing a full reinstall. Two consolations, though.
    # It allowed me to increase the size of the data partition.
    # The display driver update worked fine on the fresh install.
Needless to say I've since found [http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927525] which describes how you can disable a problem device driver (atikmdag in my case) from the system recovery command prompt :-(
Hopefully the instructions in there will help anybody who gets caught with similar problems.

  • Satellite Pro P200-150 - Where to get the Win 7 drivers

I have a PC Satellite Pro P200-150 with Vista Business purchased in 10/2007.
I want to change the hard drive to have 250 GB I want to take this opportunity to pass on Windows 7 Home Premium Version.
    I'll buy a DVD loading.
My question is: How do I get the drivers, but especially Toshiba utilities?
On the various sites I explored I find driver downloads but not utilities.
    Thank you for your response.

I have P200D and Win7 works perfectly on it. You can install Win7 on your machine too.
On Toshiba download page you should be able to find drivers. If some tools or utilities are missing you can try to use stuff offered for P300.
Check a bit this forum. Im pretty sure you can find a lot of threads with similar theme.
If you need more help you are welcome.

  • Satellite Pro P200-15W: ATI Mobility HD2600 drivers & game bugs

    Hello,
first, please, forgive my English, I use a translator
    message of Ati:
+""thank you for contacting AMD Customer Care for ATI products!+
+The only version you can use for your card is the one available at your laptop manufacturers website. Unfortunately with the 2k Radeon series cards, laptop manufacturers decided to be the only providers of the drivers. We can't offer you any software.""+
This is a big problem, because the shortcomings are excluded in for example some games.
I have problems with Bioshock (and others), the recent drivers of Ati solve and improve many things, but they do not exist for the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600.
I have Windows vista Business, in one new Satellite Pro P200-15W, is a very good laptop, but unfortunately without drivers updated with the last improves of the manufacturer Ati, will have lost of yield and bugs without resolving (I believe)
Does exist any way of solving this?
    thank you
    Pablo

    > Is here the technical service of Toshiba?
It seems that this is only a user-to-user forum. No technicians from Toshiba here!
    >How is it possible that do not allow using the last drivers of ATI?
Because the notebooks graphic cards are not the same like GPUs for notebooks!
The Toshiba graphic card drivers are a little bit modified. The drivers support an overheating protection to prevent the notebooks GPU from damage.
The graphic cards in the notebooks dont support a own huge cooling modules like the desktops GPUs.
Therefore the graphic driver must control the temperature growth. If the temp increases to a critical level, the GPU driver decreases the graphic card performance to lower the temp.
The original ATI graphic drivers dont support such feature!!
But there should be a possibility to use the ATI drivers.
You have to download the driver package from ATI and should install the driver from device manager.
There choose Install from a list or specific location -> Dont search. I will choose the driver to install.
Then choose simply the INF file which was downloaded with the package.
But note; such drivers can be used only at your own risk!!!

  • Cannot find all XP drivers for Satellite Pro P200-15W

    Hello everybody.
I've just installed XP Professional and now i'm having problems with some drivers. The Notebook is a Satellite Pro P200 15W, and the drivers are:
Graphic Card (The product specification says it is an Ati Mobility Radeon HD2600, and i haven't found the driver)
Wireless Card (The two drivers in toshiba's download page do not work)
Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus (I've installed the audio driver, but after this, appears this "new" device)
Also, it appears an unknown device and i have no idea about what it can be
I've been looking in a lot of pages and forums, and everithing i've tried has failed.
    Can anybody help me?
    Regards, and thank you

I've just installed all the drivers excepting 2. These drivers are:
1.- Autdio Device on High Definition Bus
    2.- PCI Memory Controller
I have not found any driver for these devices.
Also, i have som problems with Toshiba Hotkey Utility and FN Key, cause hotkey utility is installed but dont works, and the FN Key only controls keys Esc, F1, F2, F3 and F4, but not F5 (Monitor device selction), F6 and F7 (Brightness control), F8 (Wireless on-off) and F9 (Touchpad On-Off)

  • Re: I need to change the CD/DVD drive in my Satellite Pro P200

    Hi,
I need to change the DVDRW unit in my Satellite Pro P200, but I'dont know extract the old unit.
    Anybody help me??
    Thanks.
(Sorry for my english :S ).

To remove the optical drive module, you need to remove the battery and secondary HDD cover first.
In the middle of the bottom cover you would find an black screw which secures the CD/DVD drive.
This screw has to be removed.
In the secondary HDD bay you will find an bracket.
Use your hand to push the module bracket and then slide the module from the bay.
    Thats all!
But once again; be careful and if you have no experience, get in contact with an notebook technician!

  • Satellite Pro P200 PSPB7E - I need some XP drivers

    Hi everyone,
First I would like to say this forum is soo great because after battling for a week trying to install XP I got it finally done, however now comes part 2 of the problem :(
Before I installed XP on my system I made sure that I have all the drivers so I went on the Toshiba website and downloaded all the XP drivers. When XP got loaded I could see there were a lot of drivers uninstalled in Device Manager so I installed them. However a few of them remain and I dont know what to do as I've downloaded all of them from the Toshiba website.
I remember before I installed the drivers there were 2 audio required and one of them has installed, I also tried installing the 'Display driver' but I cant because its not letting me run the actual setup file it says the instsallation file being created is more than 88 characters :s never came across this error message before.
So in all I have 3 drivers missing, they are:
Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus - but my sound is working
    PCI Memory Controller, and
    Video Controller (VGA Compatible)
Any ideas to what I could do? THanks

Yes, the forum is really helpful!
Im a regular guest here. Ive got 3 notebooks and I would like to share my knowledge with other users
    *Just for note;*
ALL XP drivers are released for this Satellite Pro P200 PSPB7E notebook on the Toshiba European driver page!!!
Furthermore if you would check the Toshiba European drive page you would see that there is a special BIOS update for Win XP!!!!
This would mean that you should update the BIOS if you would like to use the XP on this notebook!
    Regarding your driver question;
    > Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus - but my sound is working
I've got this yellow exclamation mark too. It's normal with Win XP but if you want check this advice:
You have to install firstly the MS patches: KB835221and KB888111.
Then remove the Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus from device manager and restart the notebook again.
Possibly you will have to install the sound driver again.
    > Video Controller (VGA Compatible)
This device requires the graphic card driver
Check if you could use the XP driver released for one of these models:
    Equium A200 PSAE8E
    Equium A210 PSAENE
    Equium P200 PSPB8E
    Satellite A200 PSAE6E
    Satellite A210 PSAELE
    Satellie P200 PSPB6E
    Satellite P200 PSPBQE
    Satellite Pro P200 PSPB7E
    Satellite Pro A200 PSAE7E
    > PCI Memory Controller
You need to install the Texas Instruments Flash Media Driver
    Bye

  • 2nd hard drive in Satellite Pro P200

    Hi everyone
    I have a Satellite Pro P200.
Does anyone know where I can get a lead and a caddy to install a 2nd hard drive?

As far as I know your notebook can be upgraded with second HDD if SATA connector is available.
When you remove HDD cover for second HDD can you see it or not?
I have Satellite P200D with place for second HDD but there is no HDD SATA connector so upgrade is not possible.

  • Satellite Pro P200-15W: After Bios Update 1.90 fan incredibly noisy

Hi, I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro P200-15W, I've recently done a BIOS update to version 1.9 and seems to have been a big mistake :-/.
After restarting the computer I had a lot of software deconfig and now the fan has become incredibly noisy.
I have the problem with the Toshiba Vista registration software, I get this message: "Vista registration has stopped working". I've read other threads, I don't want to just disable it from the start.ini file, I'd like to actually solve the problem if there's a way.
Is there a way to change the fans configuration? I've read a Toshiba post about another notebook model that had the same problem of noisy fans after a BIOS update, they gave to that a solution with a new version of BIOS, is there a way to reverse the BIOS to the previous version? (will the restore CD be helpful for that purpose?)
    Cheers
    Edgard

    Hi
It seems the fan table was changed and renewed in the new BIOS version and therefore the fans run ofttimes.
Why the fan table was changed?
Well, usually something like this is necessary to improve decrease the internal temperature while the CPU and GPU are running with full performance.
This helps to prevent the hardware from damage!!
Usually the Recovery CD formats the whole HDD (partitions too) and installs only the Toshiba image on the notebooks HDD.
The image contains the OS, drivers and additional software and has nothing to do with the BIOS update.
But you can try to recover the notebook to see if the software issues like "Vista registration" can be solved!
If you want to reverse the BIOS you have to contact the ASP in your country!!!
Sorry but this everything what I can suggest!
    Best regards

  • Satellite Pro P200 won't start up

I have a 1 week old Satellite Pro P200, it turned itself off when i was just in the start menu so i wasnt doing anything out of the norm (power cable was plugged in). Since then it simply wont turn on.
With the power cable plugged in I have a blue power, battery and power supply light (although for approx 2 restart attempts the battery light was red, but now blue). The drive light flickers for about 3 seconds each time i try to boot and I can hear something happening inside the machine, but after that 3 seconds....nothing, totally dead.
I have tried removing the battery, waiting 20 minutes or so and none of that has worked. Anybody got any ideas??

Seems to be definitely an hardware problem... very bad :(
Why you don't visit your notebook dealer again and ask for the swap.
Maybe the dealer will exchange the laptop with a new one.
If not, then you will have to contact the authorized service provider in your country for a help.
If you have bought an additional on-site service then the technician will visit you at home and will try to solve this issue.
    Good luck
