Satellite Pro U400-G13 - "C++ Runtime Error" on startup

Hey Toshiba Forum Users
I just bought a Satellite Pro U400-G13
I powered it up and the auto install startet Windows Vista. The computer restartet.
After reboot a toshiba program starts up and requested a reboot more.
After that I have a "C + + Runtime Libery Error" every time I start the computer.
If I press OK the screen goes to black in 1 secound and the error shows up again.
It comes up in a "Please Wait" screen before the login screen to Windows.
I can start it in Safe Mode but do not really know what I should do with that...
Is there anyone who has tried something similar or has any good ideas for what I can do ..
Many greetings Asger Benzon

Hi
Try to reinstall the preinstalled OS using the HDD recovery option;
Like Raver said you can press the F8 button immediately after the notebook has been powered up. Then choose repair my computer and star the Toshiba Recovery procedure.
This should start the new OS installation.
After the installation has finished, reboot once again and check the OS again for any error messages.
Bye

    I??ve got a U400 which was equipped with the Intel graphic card and I??ve got an external LCD which I have connected to the U400 using the DVI-to-HDMI cable.
    My U400 unit supports the HDMI and the LCD the DVI port.
    I have received also the driver disk with my LCD and I have installed the software.
    I have also update the Intel driver and used one from the Intel page.
    Now I have the access to many different external resolutions and can choose it.

  • Satellite Pro U400-15I - Sound Wheel not working after Windows 7 install

    The sound wheel on my Satellite Pro U400-15l does nothing after the Windows 7 clean install from XP pro.
    I used the recommended Software update tool downloaded from Toshiba. The VolumeIndicator.exe process is running and the sound works OK - just not under the control of the wheel! Also the Toshiba Power control is not there but this is not a problem.
    Any suggestions welcome.

    Hi Syntax,
    there is no option to add the volume control to the taskbar in the control panel.
    The sound driver is 'Conexant High Definition Smart Audio 221'
    Interestingly, when I click on the speaker icon on the taskbar and select the mixer option I get 3 sliders called 'Device','Applications' and 'Sound Volume Indicator of Toshiba Control'. If I move this slider with my mouse I get the indicator I am looking for ( The Toshiba indicator I had under XP). However, this slider only works as a 'minimum' for the other sliders.
    Thanks for your help but I still would like that volume indicator back!

  • Satellite Pro U400-13D shuts down repeatedly

    Hi everyone,
    I'm using the Satellite Pro U400-13D for office work only. During the last days the Notebook shuts itself down without warning during normal operation.
    After a restart the problem reoccurs after a random duration.
    Is this problem known? What can I do about it?
    Thanks,
    Alexander Lorenz

    Hi Alexander!
    First of all welcome in forum! :)
    Regarding your issue I have one question: Can you notice that the notebook is getting hot on the bottom side? I ask this because normally a notebook shuts down if its getting to hot and so it protects the hardware. Otherwise the hardware would be damaged due a higher internal temperature.
    As Akuma said you buy compressed air spray. So you can clean the notebook and this blows the dust out from the cooling ventilators. Maybe it works for you.
    Furthermore about cleaning a notebook I have founded an interesting article:

  • Satellite Pro U400-23M - a good buy?

    I'm thinking of buying a Satellite Pro U400-23M. I currently have [Satellite P100-208|http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/jsp/SUPPORTSECTION/discontinuedProductPage.do?service=UK&DISC_MODEL=0 &ACTION=PRINT_WITH_BACK&com.broadvision.session.ne w=Yes&PRODUCT_ID=122152] and I'm tired of the hazzle of carrying a 17" inch laptop around, it's also quite noisy.
    I just wanted to get a feedback from you guys on the U400-23M series. Here are the specifications:
    • Intel Core 2 Duo T5870 2.0GHz, 2MB
    • 13.3" WXGA TruBrite® 1280x800

    I have a few questions to you guys who own a U400 laptop.
    Does this computer support 64bit processing? I'm not sure if the Vista operating system which is included is 32-bit or 64-bit.
    Does it run quietly and cool when surfing the web, typing in Word and under easy workload like that? Does it get very loud and hot if it's running more demanding programs like Photoshop CS3?
    I know this video card is not ment for gaming, but does it handle older games like Call of Duty 4?
    Do you recommend this laptop? I tried searching the internet for reviews but I couldn't find any for the U400-23M model. What are the pros and cons on this laptop?

    Hi mate
    I dont have the Satellite Pro U400-23M but Im a owner of the Satellite U400-10N.
    I use it in my office any I love this small baby.
    You should know that the U400 has 13.3display and its smaller as the P100.
    So you would notice definitely a difference.
    A friend of mine said that 13.3 would be too small for him but for me its optimal. I can take it everywhere and sometimes Im working while traveling around the world
    So Im very satisfied.
    Ive installed Win XP on this U400 and its functions perfectly!
    But you can install Vista 64bit too. The Satellite Pro U400-23M uses the Intel Core 2 Duo T5870 CPU which supports 64bit
    But note; the U400 is not really a hardcore gaming notebook.
    My U400 supports an Intel graphic chip and usually I use it only for office applications, (web) graphic design and web browsing.

  • Satellite Pro U400 - Lost network connection after suspend

    I have a Toshiba Dynadock. My network is connect directly in dynadock.
    When suspend my Satellite Pro U400 and after restart for continue working I lost my network connection. Then I shutdown my computer and disconnect/connect Dynadock I can continue working.
    What's the problem?
    Version software Dynadock is 2.0

    Hi
    I see you have switched from Vista to XP.
    First of all I recommend updating the BIOS.
    As Im not mistaken you should find a newer BIOS version on the Toshiba European driver page.
    Then you have to update the Win XP to the latest state!
    The XP should be up to date and all service packs, patches and MS fixes should be installed in your notebook.
    Then access the device manager and mark in every USB root hub you have to disable the option called Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power
    You can find this option in properties -> Power management tab

  • Satellite Pro U400 sometimes freezes when the power cord is plugged in

    Hello! I know this problem has been discussed here and there but I would like to open a new thread on that. Here is the scenario.
    I have recently bought a new Toshiba Satellite Pro U400-247 (PSU45E) with two batteries: (a) the original one, (b) additionally purchased Toshiba genuine PA3636U-1BRL, 7200 mAh. The notebook has the latest BIOS (4.80) and the latest drivers downloaded from Toshiba and installed (ConfigFree is not installed). I am using XP Pro SP3 (clean install done by myself). Everything is working very well, except for one thing:
    Sometimes (but not always), when the notebook is working on battery and I plug in the power cord, everything freezes and I have to restart. Some observations:
    (a) it tends to happen more frequently when the low battery alarm has already sounded;
    (b) it seems to happen more frequently with the 7200 mAh battery and less frequently with the original battery;
    (c) it seems to happen more often when a USB device (e.g. mouse) has been connected with the notebook, but that is not a rule;
    (d) it seems to happen less frequently when I move the USB mouse at the time I am plugging in the power cord;
    (e) I have experimented a lot with Toshiba PowerSaver's settings (e.g. changed the CPU levels for my profiles) but nothing I have modified seems to change the situation;
    (f) I have tried various suggestions I found on different forums, but no avail (e.g. BIOS settings);
    (g) otherwise, I can say that I really have not seen a smoother computer, everything else is really working just fine, no other problems whatsoever :)
    All this makes me think that this must be some kind of bug in the motherboard drivers, the PowerSaver driver or other drivers interacting with the battery, the CPU or possibly USB. Is there an explanation for this problem and can it be rectified somehow (e.g. by providing a driver update)?

    Hello, thanks for the reply!
    My bad, of course I meant the chipset driver. That, however, does not change the essence of the question. Also, I know that a notebook should function properly even the AC adaptor is connected or not connected. That is why I posted my question.
    As for the OS reinstall, sorry, I would not do that just on some wild guess from somebody. I recently finished the clean OS install. I have installed XP on dozens of notebooks in my life and I know what I am doing. I have been into computers and networking for 15 years and I know when I see a problem not related to how I install my OSes.
    My personal opinion: this problem has not to do with the OS install since the same problem also existed when I test-installed the XP OS image from Toshiba's own downgrade CD (that was before I did a clean install from my own slipstreamed CD). And, if you really use a properly and carefully configured OS with all the necessary software, an OS reinstall is not something you just do every day.
    As for the rest (testing the memory / adapter / motherboard etc.): as I have mentioned, similar (although not identical) topics have been raised in various other instances (e.g. at http://laptopforums.toshiba.com/t5/B...EABCA64EE6C5D9) . That means that this problem is most probably not specific to my computer or even to U400 but it may happen with other Toshiba notebooks too. Therefore a (rather standard) suggestion to spend days on reinstalling (and in my case, carefully reconfiguring) the OS, checking the memory, adapter, mobo etc. does not sound as the most plausible one in this case. FYI, I always do full tests on hardware right after I have installed an OS. In this computer, all tests (Toshiba's own; 3rd party memory diagnostics, HDD diagnostics) were passed OK. Indeed, I did not have the AC adapter tested but as it otherwise works fine, the possible problem (if there is one) would be a minor one to notice, and would require testing at a Toshiba service centre (there is no direct Toshiba agency in my country). I think testing the AC adapter is the last resort as much more probably, the problem lies somewhere else.
    Even if this problem is hardware-related, I do not expect Toshiba to replace all such hardware out there. However, on many occasions, hardware-related problems can be cured or alleviated on the software side (e.g. by a driver or BIOS update). Since it seems that other people are having similar problems with Toshiba hardware/software, I thought that maybe someone has found an actual solution or maybe there are Toshiba employees reading these forums who could look into it.

  • Vista drivers for Satellite Pro U400 series

    Hi,
    I have a U400-142 (PSU45E) Sat Pro laptop. My IT guy wiped Vista off it (against my wishes) and stuck on XP. He even gave me a XP recovery disc! I've now removed XP and stuck back on Vista. Sadly the drives for Vista Business don't seem to be on the Toshiba Website (only XP). Does anyone know where I can get the drives or can supply them.
    Thanks

    Hi
    I think the Vista drivers for the Satellite Pro U400 (PSU45E) will come soon.
    So check from time to time the Toshiba European driver page because the drivers can be released in the next couple of days.
    Please give me a feedback if you will find the drivers!!!

  • Visual C++ runtime error on startup audition cs5.5 win8.1

    After reinstalling Audition cs5.5, I get a visual C++ runtime error at startup.  I have never had a problem before on a reinstallation.  I have tried uninstall and reinstall without any success.  Is their a version of Visual C++ that is needed here?  Is this an incompatibility problem with Win 8.1?  Has anyone else had this problem?  I haven't had any luck in the FAQ section.

    The only issues I've ever heard about involving this appear to have been caused by having too many versions of the run-time on a machine. I'm not entirely sure what the situation with software only running properly with the version it was intended to is, but apparently clearing out older versions (you can check this out and remove them if you want using the normal uninstall routine) has fixed this particular problem on at least one occasion. It's worth investigating, anyway.

    I've got Satellite Pro A200-PSAE7 with ATI HD2600 Mobility Radeon. I've downgraded to XP SP2. I get blue screen saying that ati2dvag went infitive loop quite constantly. Any solution to this?

    Hi
    > I've got Satellite Pro A200-PSAE7 with ATI HD2600 Mobility Radeon. I've downgraded to XP SP2. I get blue screen saying that ati2dvag went infitive loop quite constantly. Any solution to this?
    Usually the BSOD appears due to the serious software issue or hardware malfunction.
    In my opinion its a software (driver) issue.
    I presume the BSOD appears why playing some games in most cases the graphic driver must be updated.
    If the XP driver from the Toshiba page will not help you could try the graphic drivers from the www.omegadrivers.net site. The 3rd party drivers should run on your notebook. But note; 3rd party drivers can be used only at your own risk!
    > Why standard display drivers from ati.com do not work? (While on my friends laptop with also hd2600 mobility radeon works fine).
    The original ATI drivers cannot be installed on a easy way because such drivers dont support an overheating protection. The Toshiba GPU drivers are a little bit modified and support an overheating protection. Such protection is necessary and important because the notebook graphic cards are not equipped with huge cooling module like the GPUs on for the desktop PCs.
    The temperature increases on the notebooks much faster and therefore the graphic driver have to control the GPU performance to decrease the internal temperature.
    Therefore its always advisable and recommended to use the Toshiba drivers ;)

  • Runtime Error on startup

    have the CS3 suite, education version and i'm having problems whit photoshop. All the other programs work fine (flash, fireworks, premiere, etc), but photoshop crashes at startup.
    I already disabled plugins, checked permissions, everything i can remember. The problems exists with domain and local (power and normal) users. Photoshop runs with local administrator but not with a domain admin, and i don't have any kind of policie restricting the domain admins.
    The error is a "Runtime error" at the end of the loading, right after "Building menus".
    Details of the error report:
    AppName: photoshop.exe AppVer: 10.0.1.0 ModName: scriptingsupport.8li
    ModVer: 10.0.0.0 Offset: 0015eebd
    Thanks for any help,
    Regards

    Photoshop needs to have certain directories writeable by the user. They may differ from OS to OS. If the appropriate directories are not set to be writeable by the user, Photoshop won't work. For Photoshop 7 and CS on Win2k and WinXP, go
    here. For CS2 on XP, go
    here. For other versions, you'll have to do your own search, as searching Adobe Support for "permissions" doesn't yield results for CS3 or Vista.
