Satellite S3000 - Modular Bay HDD

I have a Satellite S3000-400 and am trying to put in place a 30gb 2nd HDD in the modular bay.
I have bought a HDD advertised as suitable for use in the modular bay (part number pa3101u-1h30) but was sent an equivalent Hitachi drive with part number 13g1486.
This drive has arrived without the HDD tray to install it into for inserting into the S3000 modular bay. Two questions
- Does part pa3101u-1h30 usually come with the HDD already installed in the S3000 tray.
- What is the part number for the S3000 HDD tray in which I need to install the HDD I have now received (and where can I get one).
Thanks
Phil

Hi Phil,
I should not worry about the make of drive. Toshiba use various makes in their notebooks. They all generically similar in terms of performance and physical dimensions.
I am not sure what country you are in but I suspect that you may need to obtain a drive caddy to fit you S3000. The following is a link to a UK site who may be able to help you :-

I want to buy a select bay hdd adapter for satellite 5200 new or used part nr PA3223U-1ETC

Well, it sounds like you will need to search on Ebay because Satellite 5200 is an oldie
Im not quite sure how old it is but its definitely an stone age notebook so to be honest I dont wonder that the parts might be discontinued

  • Satellite A210-ICO - Which HDD can I use?

I'm getting bad sectors on my laptop's hard drive so I guess I should fork out for a new one - but which are suitable for A210-1CO?
    ta, M

    Hi
The Satellite A210 uses SATA HDDs and you need a new HDD with SATA interface. You can buy every HDD that you want, for example 160 or 320GB. On SATA interface there are no capacity limits.
Furthermore the most SATA HDDs have already SATA2 interface but its downgrade compatible to SATA1.
I would prefer a HDD with 5400rpm. Of course you can buy a HDD with 7200rpm but they produces more heat and noise. For the most applications are 5400rpm enough.
I have good experience with Hitachi and Seagate HDDs.
    Bye

  • Tecra M5 - Is it possible to install another OS on slim select bay HDD

Is it possible to install another OS on slim select bay HDD (besides the one that is on the native HDD).
I am planning to add a slim bay HDD to my Tecra M5.

Although I can't vouch for the procedure myself, I don't see why not. If you can install two or more OSes on a single drive on separate partitions, then it should work on an additional HDD as well, in my opinion.
Another question is what OS, and what is going to manage the boot sequence. For example, Microsoft XP setup wipes out GRUB, so you need to install Linux after XP. Two MS OSes usually coexist just fine together, but to be on the safe side it doesn't hurt if the later (by release date) OS is installed second.

  • Does Satellite M30E supports a HDD limitation?

    Hello,
I have a Satellite M30E, the original HDD was defect. So i bought a WD 250 gig.
But i can't use Space behind 130gb. (Win XP SP3).
Is it possible to download a driver or something else? I updatet the Bios to 1.7. But this takes no effect.
    Greating from Germany.

    Hello Fabian
The fact is that mobile computers are not so upgradable like desktops and you should accept it.
Maybe you can use 250 GB HDD on 4 year old desktop but as you see on the laptop it cannot work perfectly.
I have 5 year old Tecra with 80 GB HDD. It is not much but I use external 2,5 HDD for data saving. You can do the same.

  • Satellite P200/300 - Second HDD bay has no connector!

I became happy when i noticed 2nd hdd bay. But There's no sata connector available! Just some solders on the mainboard.
    If i solder a SATA CONNECTOR just like this;

    it will work or not?

    Hi
    >I became happy when i noticed 2nd hdd bay. But there's no sata connector available!
This is a little bit confused am I right? ;)
The point is that not all P200 can be upgraded with the second HDD even if the second HDD bay is available.
The different P200 are equipped with different motherboards and not all are mobos supports 2 HDD controllers
Your notebook seems to be equipped with the motherboard which supports only one HDD controller.

  • Satellite P300-20H - Second HDD caddy

    Satellite P300-20H, PSPC8E
This laptop has a second HDD bay and a second drive works in the bay.
I have tried in vain to find a HDD caddie for the second HDD bay, can anyone point me in the right direction for the part number or a shop that sells them.
    Thanks

I have upgraded brothers P300 with second HDD but I didnt use HDD bay. I have just fixed second HDD to stay in the same position with piece of plastic so that HDD will stay in place.
You can also contact Toshiba service and ask for help. I am pretty sure they have such HDD bays used before and can imagine you can get one.
Visit also eBay/notebooks and check for Toshiba hard drive caddy. I saw several bays there.

  • Slim Select Bay HDD adapter

I put in another HDD, and wanted to use the original one (MK4021GAS) in the slim select bay (SSB) using a SSB HDD adapter. However although the manual says “insert the HDD and push forward to ensure a firm connection”, and shows a picture of this, this is not possible as the connectors on the HDD and inside the SSB HDD adapter are different. The HDD has a double row of about 30 tines/spikes, like an old serial port, and the SSB adapter has a double row of 22 flat metal rectangles, a kind of edge connector, like an old parallel port cable. Do I need to purchase some kind of additional adapter? There's no such adapter shown in the picture in the manual.

Well, it sounds like you will need to search on Ebay because Satellite 5200 is an oldie

  • Toshiba Satellite P875-S7310 second HDD question

I just purchased a Toshiba Satellite P875-S7310 (http://us.toshiba.com/computers/laptops/satellite/P870/P875-S7310/) and was hoping to install a second hard drive (SSD) to improve load times and boot times. As I understand it is rather wasy to install a second SSD into the P875-S7102, as it has a second hard drive bay, but I'm unsure about the P875-S7310.  Technical support hasn't been of much help to me so I figured the second place to ask would be here. Does the Toshiba Satellite P875-S7310 also have a second HDD bay or will I need to do something like remove the DVD drive and buy a HDD caddy to install a SSD into this laptop?
Thanks a ton if you can provide me with any information,
    Nianni150

The problem with those spec sheets is that they don't list the P875-S7102 as having a second hard drive buy, but in in fact does. It also seems to be compatible with whatever the bios firmware is and allows a SSD to be run seperately.
For reference here is the second hard drive bay for the P875-S7102 that was confirmed on this forum to function. I've attached a picture of the back of the P875-S7102 I've ordered which seems to have the same configuration. I guess my question is if anyone knows whether or not the BIOS supports a secondary hard drive and if there is a SATA connection. I was hoping to buy the SSD now and have it arrive at the same time as the laptop. but I'm hesitant to do that since I'm unsure whether it will work or not.

  • MBP m2009 optical bay hdd no longer recognized in mavericks.  Anyone know why?  It worked fine before the upgrade.

Hi, I recently upgraded my MBP (m2009) to Mavericks and now my 2nd HDD (internal optical bay) is no longer recognized.  It was fine before upgrade and works fine when I hook up externally.  Very strange.  HDD cable appears fine.  It does not show up in Disk Utility either.  Appreciate any ideas.  Thanks.

Hi, I'm back home.  Here's the info:

  • Satellite L670-1JP external HDD not always recognized on start-up

I bought a Samsung G3 external HD. The first time i plugged it in, it was directly recognized by my Toshiba Satellite L670-1JP and worked with no problems.
But later, almost everytime I start up my computer, he does not find the external HD. I then have to unplug en replug the USB connection several times to make it work.
This is rather time consuming, so how can I solve this problem ?

    Hi
Do other USB devices work properly in connection with the Satellite L notebook?
Did you test this external HDD with other computers/notebooks?
I think you should do this because it could be a external HDD malfunction.
    Check this!

  • Cannot install WinXP on Satellite Pro A200 - No HDD

    Hi,
Please can someone help me. I've just brought 52 Satellite Pro A200 laptops. They come with Vista pre-installed, but I want to wipe them and install Windows XP. However I have a big problem - when I put my XP CD in and boot from it and click Enter to continue, it tells me that the Installation cannot continue as Windows found no hard drives (although I can boot in Vista so I know the HDD are ok).
    Thanks for looking,

I too had the HDD problem. Its because there are no drivers on the XP CD for SATA hard drives. What you have to do is use some free software called NLite and merge the SATA drivers with the files off the XP CD. (It really is ace). Available at
    http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/OS-Enhancements/nLite.shtml
Read this page it tells you exactly how to do it.(
http://news.softpedia.com/news/Install-Windows-XP-On-SATA-Without-a-Floppy-F6-47807.shtml). If I can manage it then anyone can. Using the NLite software you copy the contents of your XP CD to your hard drive. Then you download the SATA drivers (available from the tosh site), then you integrate the drivers with your XP CD files. Finally you create an ISO image and burn it to CD. When you then boot off your new CD and install XP, it detects the SATA drive. Hey Presto!!!

  • Re: Installation of Windows XP on Satellite X200-23G - No HDD

I tried installing Windows XP on my Satellite X200-23g, once i got installed but as desktop was seen... blue screen of death.
Error occur and it went into restarting cycle... so i again installed VISTA from reconvery cd.
Now when i try to install XP from other CDs which i have, it says hard disk not found press F3 to quit. s
Someone plz enlighten me on this issue..
I need to install xp as my college progs and not vista compatible.

    Hi
Your Windows Setup does not see the HDD because the SATA drivers were not included into the XP installation CD.
The new notebook generation are equipped with HDD SATA controller. But the Win XP or Vista dont have a SATA driver integrated.
SO you will have to download the Intel Matrix Storage Manger. There you can find the SATA drivers.
You could use nLite software. Its free and it will help you to create a new XP CD and to include the SATA driver. Then you could use this new CD for XP installation.
This Toshiba document might be helpful.

  • Re: Satellite L300-11C - Which HDD is built in?

    Hi,
I'd like to know if the hard drive in the L300-11C is SATA or IDE. Are they of particular size or will any 2.5" drive fit?
Any help would be appreciated :)
    Many thanks,

    Hi
I have Satellite L300 too so I can say that this notebook uses SATA HDDs. So if you want to buy a new HDD you have to buy one with SATA or SATA2 interface. Both will work in Satellite L300.
Furthermore you need a normal 2.5 HDD. These HDDs are designed for notebook usage.
If you have more questions, please let us know! :)

  • Satellite A40 - What max HDD size is possible

    This Satellite A40 has a 40GB 4200RPM drive.
Looking for 120GB and possibly 160GB.
This question is whether I can consider a higer RPM an/or seek time.
    What would be the limitations?
    Maurice Newsome

    Hi
I presume the A40 supports an IDE HDD controller ATA-5.
In such case the 120GB would be the max die to the 28bit LBA
But in your case I would test firstly an 80GB or an 120GB HDD.
