Satellite S50T-B - Adding RAM and swapping HDD for SSD
HI there,
I have recently purchased the Satelitte S50t-B laptop and have a few question about upgrading:
1. What is the recommended RAM to add (8GB)
2. What is the recommended SSD to add?
3. Are there any instructions to add RAM and an SSD to my laptop?
4. Will I void my warranty by installing more RAM and swapping the current hard drive for an SSD?
Thank you for your help
This notebook is listed on Toshiba page:
http://www.mytoshiba.com.au/products/computers/satellite/s50/pspq8a-008008/specifications
- What is the recommended RAM to add (8GB)
The unit supports 16GB RAM, so you can add an second PC3-12800 8GB DDR3L (1600Mhz) SO-DIMM module (i.e PA5104U-1M8G)
- 2. What is the recommended SSD to add?
Its up to you there are different SSD drive on the market and most of the 2.5 SATA SSD drives should be compatible.
- 3. Are there any instructions to add RAM and an SSD to my laptop?
It looks like both parts (RAM as well as SSD/HDD) are not user upgradable since there is no separate access to the memory or HDD bay. This means that whole plastic cover at the bottom of the unit needs to be remove in order to get access to these part.
But as far as I know this would cancel the device warranty!!!
- 4. Will I void my warranty by installing more RAM and swapping the current hard drive for an SSD?
If you want to keep the warranty valid, such upgrade should be performed by authorized engineer.

I'm thinking about buying a 17" MacBook Pro and am having difficulty deciding between a 320GB 7,200 RPM drive or the 128 GB SSD. I don't really know if the 128 GB SSD will make huge amounts of difference for the cost, so I'm wondering if it's possible to buy the 320 GB for now and then upgrade later. Would this be easy to do or would there be different connectors involved?
Apologies if this has been asked before -- I couldn't find an answer.Hi.
It appears that Apple authorizes memory and hard drive swap on unibody MacBook Pros and the procedure seems very easy (it was not so for previous MacBook Pro, or iBooks).
You can find it on the MacBook Pro support page.
Physically, SSDs are the same as standard hard disks. So as long as you choose a 2.5" SATA SSD (with the correct height, but I believe that they all are 9.5mm high, which is the standard for notebook HDDs), you will be OK.
So go ahead with the standard HDD and upgrade to a SSD when you want.
At this time, you will be able to copy the content of your old drive to the new one (as long as it fits ...) by placing it in a USB enclosure, using a free program called Carbon Copy Cloner. You will need another drive (or another Mac) as startup disk.

Hops this helps,

Purchased Y510P - Need to swap HDD for SSD, Windows 8 Install
Hi everyone,
I've just ordered a Y510P which is on its way to me. I love the specs, except I want a decent sized SSD in it instead of the 1tb HDD.
I'd like to know how I can perform a clean install of Windows 8 on the SSD, and utilize the product key assigned to the system. The large majority of win8 laptops I've worked with do not include a product key sticker anymore, and I do not want to utilize whatever recovery tool lenovo has, as the recovery tools tend to include additional software I'm not interested in having on the laptop.
Can someone point me in the direction of the best way to accomplish a clean install on a replacement drive and still be able to utilize the windows 8 key assigned to the PC?
Thanks in advance.xlim3y:
You could first extract your OEM product key (search Belarc Advisor) and then follow the instructions at the link below to download the .iso (Windows 8 or 8.1). Read the comments following the article as you may need to use a temporary placeholder key to commplete the install and would then activate Windows with your extracted product key. how to check the usage of ram and cpu Performance for the particular application like sqlserver ,ms word
rankiHi,
You can use Performance Monitor and add the required counters.
Check the below Technet article on Performance Monitor.
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc749249.aspx
Below are the steps to monitor the process in Performance Monitor.
- Go to the Performance Monitor.
- Right-click on the graph and select "Add Counters".
- In the "Available counters" list, open the "Process" section by clicking on the down arrow next to it. Select "% Processor Time" (and any other counter you want).
- In the "Instances of selected object" list, select the process you want to track. Then click on "Add >>" button. Click on OK.

Upgrading RAM and Flash Storage for higher capacity
If I purchase a MacBook Pro with Retina Display with 8GB or RAM and 256GB Flash Drive, can I later upgrade the RAM and Flash Drive for higher capacity?
Just to clarify...
If I were to purchase a "regular" MacBook Pro (non-"retina", DVD drive, FireWire port, etc.) and seek aftermarket options for...
(1: replacing the main RAM with 16 gigabytes of RAM (I understand that the newest "regular" MBP is limited to a BTO option of only 8 GB.)
and
(2: replacing the hard drive with a larger-capacity aftermarket Solid State Drive, preferably one with a capacity of either 768 gigabytes or 1 terabyte.
Do such aftermarket options exist for the newest "regular" MacBook Pro? Can this model handle 16 GB of RAM? If there are aftermarket kits available, who installs them? -
Added RAM and now Applications won't open
I just added RAM (8GB)to my computer and now my InDesign will not open.
I did the OptApple+PR reset.
Do I need to do something after upgrading RAM so things run smooth? Will the computer start up normally? If not, is the led on the front blinking? If it does start up normally how much RAM does it think it has?
Have you tried going back to the original RAM? -
Thinking about getting an iMac and upgrading the RAM myself. If I do this, will it void the apple care plan that I plan on buying?

No problem. Adding RAM does not affect your normal warranty or AppleCare.
Apple expects owners to add their own -- they even printed the instructions
on the bottom of the pedestal foot.

Ram and possible HDD Upgrading Under Apple Care
Hi there, when I bought my macbook pro it came with the standard HDD and 4gigs of ram. I think that the time has come to upgrade it to 8gigs of ram and here are the modules I plan to use [url]http://www.ebuyer.com/191220-corsair-8gb-2x4gb-ddr3-1333mhz-laptop-memory-kit-so -dimm-cmso8gx3m2a1333c9[url]
My question is IF I upgrade these parts, will it void my 3 years apple care extended warranty. I know that the parts I install will not be covered due to them not being apple parts, but Will it void the whole machine if I open it my self ?
Many Thanks
SamInstalling additional RAM will not void your warranty. Upgrading the hard drive is another matter altogether.
Generally, if you cause any damage resulting from your work, then your warranty will not cover that damage. However, Apple repair centers may consider a drive replacement as causing any damage in order to void your warranty entirely. So, you do take a little risk when you replace a drive.
However, you can find tutorials, hard drives, and RAM at OWC. This should make such work pretty straight forward. They can also provide the needed tools. -
Is it possible to add ram and SSD to the U400 by user or if it can only be done by service? I would really want to have 8Gb of ram and the SSD but there is no available model with such config at the moment.
My user-upgrade experience is not good. Most of this is user (my) error, there is nothing wrong with the way the machine was supplied from Lenovo.
I found a YouTube video about cracking the case open and that is what I did, cracked the mount fittings in the front of the case. I got it back together but the front edge is not as secure as it should be.
If you decide to open the case, make sure you SLIDE, don't pry or lift the bottom off after removing the 2 feet screws at the back.
Second bummer is the hard drive is right next to the USB3 port. Everything fits fine w/ the supplied hard drive because the case is slightly recessed on a normal (spinning) disk. On the SSDs I've purchased, the case is the full rectangular size and doesn't fit in opening. I had to hack into the surround of the SSD to make it fit.
Needless to say, I hope I don't need warranty support on the machine or drive. -
Upgraded RAM and Changed HD to SSD: Computer Crashing
Hi guys, I have a 2013 MBP that I recently upgraded with 16 gigs of RAM and an SSD. Both pieces of hardware, I was careful to make sure were compatible with my computer. Ever since installing them, though, I have been experiencing consistent crashing that seems to happen most regularly when the computer awakes from sleep mode or when I unplug or plug in the charger. I ran a memtest, and it stated everything was fine. Debugged the hd.
This is the error report that I am receiving after recovering from a crash:
Any chance I could get some help with this issue? Thanks for reading guys!

If not, then the SSD should be substituted for the original HDD. Kernel panics are often attributable to hardware issues.
Also run an Apple hardware Test which may provide a clue.

Thanks. I didn't realize that I can get up to a TB! Wow! What type of TB do I buy, any suggestions of specific ones? Is there G5 specific Tb disks to install? Or just any as long as they have the right measurement size? And what size do I need to remain within?

Hi All,
Need to upgrade my T400 and T61 HDD. I want to have 7200 RPM 320GB. Is the upgrade quite noticeable, I mean the speed and performance? What can you recommend that is already tried and tested?
Thank you.

Interesting. I'm running a Hitachi 320G 7200RPM drive in my T400 with no detectable vibration. On my T61, a Seagate 200G 7200RPM drive vibrated like crazy - tried two of them - but a Hitachi 200G drive was pretty close to vibration free.
I'm quite happy with the Hitachi in the T400. It is fast, quiet, and cool. YMMV.
I wonder if the reported manufacturing changes in the T-series keyboards and top bezels could explain the difference?

Hi,
Looking to upgrade my Pismo. I loaded osx tiger on with no problem. But my 6G HD won't cut it anymore. So I'd like to buy a new HD and max out the ram to 512. Question: Is there a resourse to find out which ramm sticks and HD's are compatible with this machine. I currently have a 64 sdram pc100 3225 and a 128 sdram pc100 2225 installed, but I've heard elsewhere that pc133's will work. Maybe there are others?
Not looking to dump a ton of cash into this older machine, but if I could upgrade for $100 or so bucks it seems like it would be worthwhile. Or am I crazy.
Any resources would be appreciated.
Thank you!
markI'm interested in this HD topic. I am wanting to upgrade my Pismo from the 12 gig HD it has in it, but want to make sure of one thing: Are the ATA 6 hard drives compatible? I'm asking because a guy at work said he read that ATA 6 is not compatible with the Pismo. You don't make any reference to that issue (and I don't even know what it means, really), so I assume any of these 2.5 inch HDs will work. I'm looking for an 80 gig, I guess. Those seem to be the most affordable for the largest amount of storage to me (at least for the $$ I have).
A second issue: This Pismo has 384 mb RAM and I'm running OS X 10.3.9. If I upgrade to Tiger, how will that RAM serve me or limit me? I've had this computer for a little over two years, and it has been great, although it seems to run slower lately, especially if I call up iPhoto. I've got just over 1,000 pix in there now, and I'm think I'm overwhelming the computer.
A third issue: This computer does not have a CD-RW on it. I'm contemplating that upgrade as well. Any thoughts on the best buy/most compatible CD-RW for the Pismo? There's probably not a wide range of options.
I've only popped the hood on this once, and that was to install the Airport card back when I bought it.
Thanks for helping me with these issues. I love my Powerbook!

Changing HDD for SSD QUESTION (U410)
Is any data held on the 500GB drive at time of reset?
Basically my question is, can I simply swap the 500gb HDD for a 250gb SSD without problems of so when I reset the Windows8 install etc will work as usual?
I will use the one click recovery button, and reset everything, except this time on the 250gb SSD.
HELP?hi shoutingdog,
Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
First Before you change any setting or setup,
Create a backupdrive first of your WIndows 8 using this Method and let's Name that as your Repair Image.
Download and install belarc advisor to get the product key.
The HDD will have everything, your Windows 8 Os and even the Onekey Recovery Partition, so removing your HDD will render the One click recovery button Not working.
Two ways to install windows 8 back to the blank SSD.
1 You will need an external mount for your SSD or HDD where the scenario should be both SSD and HDD are connected to the computer so you can clone the HDD to your SSD.
(If the clone failed then you can use the Repair Image)
2 You can use a retail copy or any installer copy of Windows 8 and install that to your SSD, if asked for a product key, use the Key extracted using the Belarc advisor.
Any driver needs you can download from Support.lenovo.com
Again The Preloaded HDD Contains the Recovery partition, and the One click feature will look for the HDD where it is saved.
Best Regards
Solid Cruver

Memory parameters settings as per RAM and swap size
Hello Experts,
We have installed the newly SAP systems (Solman 7.1, ECC6 EHP 5, and CRM EHP1), below is the platform-
OS - Linux x86_64
RAM - 20 GB (ECD ABAP and solman (ABAP+JAVA)) and 24 GB (CRM ABAP).
swap size is twice of RAM.
Kernel - 720 64bit
Current memory parameters values are (by default) -
ztta/roll_area 6500000
ztta/roll_first 1
ztta/short_area 3200000
rdisp/ROLL_SHM 32768
rdisp/PG_SHM 32768
rdisp/PG_LOCAL 150
em/initial_size_MB 4096
em/blocksize_KB 4096
em/address_space_MB 4096
ztta/roll_extension 2000000000
abap/heap_area_dia 2000000000
abap/heap_area_nondia 2000000000
abap/heap_area_total 2000000000
abap/heaplimit 40000000
abap/use_paging 0
Could anyone suggest the calculation for above parameters so I can tune it according to my platform to avoid any memory bottleneck.

For 20 Gb Instance For 24 GB
