Satellite Server Vs CDN caching framework..

Do I still need to go with CDN caching framework as option for my online systems or Shall I go with Satellite server option suggested as per webcenter sites documentation?

SS provides an easy way to scale the on-premise solution to take more load. It also allows caching of authenticated content at the edge of the network. It's much cheaper to scale with SS then with CDN. We have many customers who actually use both.

Satellite server time was set in the future

According to status in ZCM, workstation time was set in the future (Last Full Refresh: 2/13/11).
The time is now correct.
Workstation in question is also a satellite server.
"Last Full Refresh" is stuck at some point in time on all workstations "closest" to server, new content (bundle) wasn't delivered since.
What is the best course of action?
How can one get rid of the wrong time stamps ?

Unable to Delete a Satellite Server

I have a satellite server (server class machine)11.1.x . That i want to get ride off. I removed it as a satellite server and it is no longer showing as a Satellite in the Server Hierarchy. I Ithen try to delete the server, I get unable to delete the object error in ZCC when I try
Tried using zman sd /devicepath but am getting the device has associations or dependencies. Delete those first.
I cannot see any kind of dependencies or association anywhere. I have looked at at the Locations made sure it is not in any. There are no policies or bundles associated with the device.
Any suggestions?

I could've sworn someone else ran into something similar with this, but I don't recall what the solution (if any) was.
I thought that for a satellite server that it was acceptable to delete it if you could only do a removal only
Maybe you can reinstall the agent on the machine and then see if it'll reconnect and let you demote it?

Satellite Server Issue

Another ZCM related issue has cropped up, this time with a Satellite server, that is going to be performing the Imaging Role, I have included screen captures of the Satellite server, along with another server that is working, basically the Sxx-Oxx1 server is showing that the imaging role is enabled using the zac satcfg, however; when running the zac satr it reports that the Imaging Role: Enabled: false Status : Stopped (further when trying to restart the service it fails almost instantly)
Any thoughts as to why this service might be failing or what troubleshooting steps I can try next? This is 11.2.4 MU 1, and so far this has been the only site that has been reporting this issue. The installation of the agent and configuration is standard across other Satellite servers, so strange that this one would exhibit this behavior.
We did a quick Google search and found TID 7008789 and it mentions a timeout of 120ms, this site in question does have a slow link, but when we change other services those changes are seen almost immediately,
Any thoughts?

Server-Side Plug-in Framework

Release Notes of OID 9.0.2 mentions server-side plug-in framework.
I would like to find more information on this; what is it in detail; especially if this would help to automatically remove a user from a group when the user is deleted in the DIT.

Satellite Server. Role is enabled but status is stopped

I have a satellite server (SLES 11.3) that has two roles assigned: imaging and content. Imaging is working fine, but when I run zac satr, it reports:
Role: Content Enabled: true. Status: Stopped.
I've tried removing that role and then readding it, but get the same result. Is there a way I can force it to try to start so I can check the logs (zmd-messages? is that the right log to be checking?) and see where it's failing? Are there rpms that I can reinstall that might correct it?
The one complication with this machine is that it used to be a primary server. I went through the primary server uninstall process and then set it up as a satellite. Everything was working fine, but now I'm running into this problem.
I appreciate any thoughts the community might have on this problem.

Zac commands on linux satellite server

Since I'm dumb, where does one go about running the zac commands on the linux satellite server?
The docs just say to run zac cdi ss and whatnot and I can't find it in the docs (ie, you have to go to like /opt/novell/something)

Nevermind, found them on the scenarios on page 5 of 8 (AFTER they have you run the commands on page 2).
I'll see if this can be added to the actual documentation as I still don't see it in the docs anywhere.

Satellite Server traffic v Primary Server traffic

I recently did a packet trace on a workstation and noticed a lot of traffice going to the primary servers and not just the satellite server.
I have a 10.3.3 environment with Windows 2003 servers and Full SQL 2005. A Windows XP workstation as a satellite server. That satellite server has Content, Authentication and Collection configures. It also has a Closest Server Rule set to a CIDR /16 IP address.
I am not sure why, but the workstation seems to hit the primary server first and even another primary server second. Then during login it does seem to hit the satellite server a bit but it hits the primary server just as much and like I said earlier it seems to hit another primary server that isn't configured for that site. I do have content on all Primary servers so I understand it hitting these servers some, but during authentication and during content retrieval I am confused at why it wouldn't be smacking the satellite server to no end and not the primary servers.
I need to make sure I have satellite servers and primary server configured correctly due to connection issues. Please, any help on configuration would be appreciated. Thanks.

Java Caching Framework

Hi All,
I m in process of evaluating some open source java caching framework which can help our web application to reduce response time.
Though i have some open source caching framework in my list like
JCS
OSCache
JOCache
But i have never used any one of the caching framework.If any one in the group have used them in past or is working on some open source based framework,please do share there experience so that it can help us in deciding the best available solution.

You may want to check out Hazelcast . It is an open source distributed, transactional distributed cache for Java. Hibernate second level cache plug-in is also available .
Hazelcast is released under Apache license. It also have distributed lock, topic, multimap, queue and executor service implementations. [This 10 minute video|http://www.hazelcast.com/screencast.jsp] is very good to get started.

Hi all: having a bit of an issue with a satellite server. I decided to completely remove all roles from one of our sat servers, un-register it, remove the agent, and reinstall. This all proceeded fine but I am not able to register the server into the zone. The command zac reg -k key https://serverort returns an error:
Unable to register with server https://-------
Service Error. code: -28, message: Internal Datamodel exception with trying to create/update device: XXXX

All fixed. For some reason, after about 2 hours I was able to register them.

Essbase 64 bit on Windows 2003 Server: Windows Virtual cache/ Paging File ?

the speed of our nightly calculations seems to differ from day to day between 1 and 2 hours
I am wondering, what the correct setting for the windows paging file is ?
We use Windows 2003 64 Bit Server with 16 GB RAM
We run 1 Essbase application with 80 GB pag files with 4 GB Data Cache Setting and 1 GB Indexcache Setting in EAS console - on that server is actually nothing else running in production mode (just a few essbase-test application, usually offline)
what is the recommended setting on the windows level in the windows system properties for memory usage ?
We have:
Memory Usage: Adjust for best performance of "Programs" ;
Virtual Memory/Paging file on C-Drive: Custom Size, initial Size: 10 GB, maximum size 16 GB
when system was handed over from Oracle, we had 4 GB virtual memory - however in essbase manual, you read that the recommended value should be 3-5 times the physicial ram -
for me, the cache-bevahiour is strange anyway: if I watch taskmanager, I see in the middle of our 1 hour calculation the memory usage of Esssvr.exe Service using 7 GB of RAM, then the 16 GB RAM are used up at some point (paging file is 9 GB )- then suddenly nearly all the RAM get's cleared and ESSSVR.exe memory consumption goes down to 0 and from 0 increasing again-
looks to me, as all the cache for essbase get's deleted in the miiddle of the calculation, because RAM used up for paging files ?
Can anybody explain or give a clear directions, what to check ?
our application operates normally (no abnormal termination, no generation of *.xcp files)
(Essbase is installed on the 500 GB D-Drive)

thanks for the helpful link - the long discussion reminded me again, that pure cores and cache is not all, what makes up a good essbase application -
I will test with calcparallel 6 (in comparison to 4) on our 64bit environment - just to see if I can achieve a 10, 20 or 30% improvement...
In addition, I must admit, that 50% of our 1-2 hour calculation is calculated in serial/ not parallel... so I expect an additional 5 to 10 min improvement, not more.

Mail constantly is synchronising with server and updating cache directory!

Mail constantly is synchronising with server (sent messages) and updating cache directory making everything slow.
I have a .mac account. I understand the concept of IMAP and that it information is stored on the server therefore it needs to update but surely not constantly and besides the blue bar sticks halfway through without completing. Please help.

I have had the same issue. Rebuilding fixes it temporarily, but it comes back....Also have an issue where Mail will not download attachments automatically. They show up in grey until they are clicked...have Mail set to download all messages and their attachments, but it doesn't want to. Very frustrating. I have begun the switch to Entourage, which is unfortunate, as I like Mail more.
