Satellite T130 - Can I use a SSD?

Is it posible to use SSDdisk in Toshiba Satellite T130-K ?

Hi
Theoretically it should be possible to use a SSD in your notebook. I dont see any reason why it should not work.
I mean SSD have also SATA interface as normal HDDs but only the technology is different. So you can try it and then post your result here. Im interested in it. :)

Some drawbacks, you can't boot from any OS (OS X or Windows) installer disk from a external optical drive the Superdrive goes into when you install the kit.

  • Satellite T130 - Can't start the Toshiba HDD recovery

Hi all, I have a problem with my Satellite T130. I have to start the Toshiba HDD Recovery but the computer tell me that there isn't a valid HDD recovery on the PC. Probably this is a my fahter's fault. There is another way to start the recovery?
    Thanks

    Hi iceknight,
Of course you can install Windows from a normal Microsoft Windows disk thats no problem. There are some guides you can find using Google to copy the Windows 7 disk content on an USB stick and then you can install Windows 7 from a USB stick.
But easiest way is you order a recovery disk from Toshiba directly. The recovery disk contains all necessary drivers and tools so the original out of box settings can be restored:

can I use audio-in (microphone) as audio-out on my Satellite A40? I need two audio-out jacks to use a 4.1 audio system. I had a PC where this was possible by modifying Bios.

You need an external audio-soundcard for USB. That's the only way to deal with this.

  • How can I use an SSD in a 2006 Mac Pro 1,1 2.66Ghz

    Hi everyone,
I'm trying to work out how to use my new SSD in an old 2006 MacPro. Bear with me, I'm not an expert and trying to work out what is best for me.
I recently bought a 1TB Samsung SSD 840EVO to use in my old Mac Pro, not to use as my main machine, but as a network slave to save RAM with sound sample libraries.
I also got an Apricorn SATA III Velocity Solo x2 - Extreme Performance SSD Upgrade Kit to get high speeds
    http://www.apricorn.com/products/desktop-ssd-hdd-upgrade-kits/vel-solox2.html?gc lid=CLOi46bvqMICFVGCMgodPG8AdA
After installing the HD using the SATAIII connector in a PCIe slot, I did a hard drive test and realised I could only get about 160mbps, not 300-500mpbs which I think the SSD should run at. I had my friend test it on his machine too, and we realised the problem is the "Link Width" which says "x1" and not "x4" or something, so that the speed isn't running at full speed.
    So apparently it's not compatable.
Apparently what I CAN do is install it in a regular Hard Drive bay with a sled, which will be SATA II ... will that work?
    I think I can use this: http://www.amazon.com/Mac-Pro-2006-2008-Sled-Drives/dp/B00AN55034
Anyway - is this what I should be doing to get the fastest available connection?
Any advice would be great- thanks!!!

SATA II is generally just fine, no fuss no muss, for the system. Using PCIe to boot adds problems and most if not all such PCIe SSD cards do NOT WORK in 32-bit Mac Pro 1,1 and 2,1 (and the 3,1 is also sometimes difficult with some cards).
Data uses though are useful, work, and benefit. Lightroom, Aperture, scratch, even iPhoto - all those graphic libraries.
I would rewrite and make it "will the native SATA II drive bays" work, and the answer to that is YES. But not faster.
You have a 4x and 8x slot, so one of those is fine.
It is the reads and zero latency seeks along with queue depth and high 90K IOs per sec that help an SSD shine.
Putting a 250GB or 500GB EVO 840 is the easiest and best return on system improvement you can make for $120-240 (plus $14 for Icy Dock adapter).
Even the 2008 has two 4x PCIe 1.1 slots. The 2009 has PCIe 4x 2.1 slots that share bandwidth and cap out (only learned from stripping SSDs using two PCIe cards and 2-4 SSDs), so they aren't perfect either! ONLY the 5,1 really has the best PCIe design and setup.
Sonnet only supports or recommends their Tempo Pro which is what I bought, so I don't know off hand how well yours works and if it even will. Some cards do require EFI 64-bit, AND 10.8.x or later, and maybe even PCIe 2.0 - but only to work, ie they don't work or not supported in PCIe 1.0... but NOT about the bandwidth.
Booting in 10 seconds is nice. Launching a full dozen apps in 10 seconds (and ready to use) also. Only larger program suites takes 20 seconds now.
250MB/sec is nothing to sneeze at when it comes to boot drive SSD.

  • Satellite M70 - Can I use all 2,5" HDDs?

Does all HDD 2.5" can be put into Satellite M70 or they have to have specific dimensions? For example i thin about Samsung spinpoint [this model|http://www.pricerunner.com/pl/36-765680/Hard-Drives/Samsung-SpinPoint-T166-320GB-SATAII-7200rpm-Compare-Prices].
Will it be OK for my laptop?

    Hi!
As far as I know the Satellite M70 was available with SATA HDDs and IDE HDDs. If you have a SATA HDD, you can use this HDD.
The Satellite M70 supports only SATA150 (SATA1) but this is no problem. All SATA2 HDDs runs in SATA1 mode and are 100% compatible.

  • Satellite A200 - can't use Vista after Product Recovery

Hello. I hope someone can help me with the following... This week I've had various issues with my laptop following a Vista update that System Restore did not fix, so I decided to go for a full Product Recovery (as I have a full backup of all my files).
So far I have used product recovery on my laptop in each of the 3 ways I can see (and more than once): without changing settings, changing settings and maximising the partition, changing settings and selecting the advance / expert option.
Each time I was able to complete the initialisation of windows, creating a new user account, etc. Once the desktop has been set up, I get a small window with a progress bar and when this completes I click the 'restart' button...
After restarting I get to the black screen that says Microsoft Corporation with the green progress bar, but it stays there for what feels like 'too long'. After a while I get a black screen with a cursor and then a blue screen for a crash dump.
If I use F8 and start in Safe Mode, the system stops at the CplIR.sys file, although hard disk activity seems to continue. After 10+ minutes I switch off.
If I use F8 and then select Repair Computer... this is what happens with each option
    - Restore the complete windows operating system: after clicking OK nothing happens.
    - Memory diagnostics: there are no problems with the memory
    - DOS prompt: I have run CHKDSK and there are no problems with the hard drive
    - Startup Repair: there are no errors, although the diagnostics say 'failed' when it sees there are no system restore points
Then on restarting I either get the black screen with cursor followed by the crash dump OR if I manage to sign in and get to my desktop, I get the crash dump as soon as I try to do something (like open the control panel).
Following instructions found elsewhere, I've tried this after removing the battery and then changing the power management options immediately after windows initialisation (ie. before clicking the restart button). No change.
I've even ignored the restart button! But still get a crash dump when I try to do something.
Any ideas?? I have spent (ie. wasted) so much time on this and don't understand what can be wrong after formatting the drive and re-loading windows image...

    Hello
It is very interesting story. I have recovered several notebooks many times but I have never noticed something like this.
I must say that all you have done right and you think in right way. If I were you I would try exactly the same steps to get it work somehow.
I don't know which various issues you had before but I presume there issues were just software issues and not relevant for hardware functionality.
It is really hard to say what the problem can be. What you can try is obtain somewhere Microsoft Vista installations disc and install naked Vista to see if the same will happen again.
Anyway, the fact is that recovery images are tested and adapted for each notebook model and if the hardware is OK there is no reason for such behaviour.
Try with clean installation using Microsoft installations disc and let us know what happen exactly.

  • Satellite A300 - Can only use stereo on receiver via HDMI

I was wondering if someone could help me with my audio issues. I have a Satellite A300 PSAGCC-06h019 running Vista home premium 64bit SO1, and I am having trouble hooking up with my receiver. I have attached my computer to the receiver via the HDMI port, and only 2 channels (stereo) are available to be selected.
I have the latest Realtek drivers, the latest ATI radeon drivers, but I cannot select surround sound speakers in the audio setup, only stereo. Is there some sort of registry patch or update or something which will allow me to select more than 2 channels output through my HDMI? I have a very nice surround sound setup and I would like to maximize my entertainment value.
Also, when I go into the HDMI audio settings, there is a radio box to check dolby digital and dts, when I test the dts and dolby digital, it goes into surround sound and plays the test tones, but I can't set the speakers to 5.1 or 7.1 for watching movies.
thank you in advance, if anyone can help me with this.

yes, I am referring to configuring the HDMI output on the Playback Devices Tab, I select the HDMI output, and click the Configure button on the bottom left, but the only option available is 2-channel.
I play Dolby Digital and DTS movies through my receiver all the time, through a separate HDMI port. I can simulate surround sound through stereo with my receiver but multi-channel mp4 files are always mixed down to 2-channel. I know the computer is capable of outputting DTS and Dolby Digital because on the Supported Formats tab of the Properties screen, I can test the DTS and Dolby Digital and those work perfectly.

  • Satellite L450 - Can I use Creative X-FI sound card?

    Hi,
will the Creative sound blaster x-fi xtreme audio notebook soundcard plug into my Toshiba Satellite L450D which has a 4 in 1 media card reader or do I need some kind of adapter?

    Hi pitza,
Do you mean this sound card?
If yes you should read the user manual firstly. The 4in1 media card reader is only designed for flash cards like, SD card, SDHC card, etc.
This Creative sound card requires a ExpressCard slot (34 or 54).
I have checked the user manual of Satellite L450 and its not equipped with such a card slot
=> You cant use this sound card!

  • Can I use existing SSD in new 2013 macbook pro?

    Hi
I have a 2009 macbook pro intel core 2 duo, and need more computing power to run Lightroom, as i'm a photographer.  I upgraded my RAM to 8gb, and bought a 500Gb SSD but my MBP still struggles with Lightroom.  I was thinking to upgrade to the latest i7 processor MBP, and switch the standard Hard drive with my SSD.
I already run Mountain lion, do you think there would be any compatibility issues with a straight swop?
My SSD is still on warranty, so if so I could still return it get a refund on the heftty price I paid and get a retina screen MBP with an SSD already in it.
I have around 1,500 US dollars to budget on a new machine, I already have a second screen I run with my current model.
So, retina model and return the SSD or standard MBP and swop the HD if it works?
    Thanks!

    It's right there under Display.
Most chose the Antiglare screen. But I'm not sure why.
Click on the Store link, select Mac then Macbook Pro then scroll down for the 15" model and click the Select Button. Then scroll down until you see the Display section.

  • Equium L300 - Can I use Recovery CD from a other Toshiba notebook?

    Hi,
    I can't get a computer to load Vista (Equium l300 I think).
Ubuntu loads just fine (I have an 8GB linux partition, with GRUB installed in a separate partition), but when I try to load vista I get "Starting..." and nothing happens.
I tried HDDRecovery pressing '0' or 'F8', but that gave me a disk check for errors and nothing more.
I still have a backup from HDD recovery in another partition, but I don't know where to place it, can you tell me where?
Then I found out I have a toshiba recovery disc from my wife's Satellite.
Can I use it to recover the Equium or will it erase it's genuine Vista installation putting a new 'pirated' copy in it's place?
If I can't, can somebody tell me where to place the backed up HDDRecovery image folder?

Thank you Horwath, but I was not attacking Toshiba in any way whatsoever, since that will not solve my problem nor spare my time. But now I feel like the prevailing attitude in this forum is becoming an issue worth commenting.
Saying +You should have done this and you should have done that+ is even worse than RT#M, because RT#M usually applies to something that +can still be done+, while telling me I *should* have made a copy before is something I *already know* and does not apply to the present situation. Also, just keeping a recovery medium is not enough since home burnt CD's often peel with time (at least in hot wet climate areas they do). So asking how to safely edit the partition table without affecting the recovery partition is very pertinent question in a forum such as this one.
The problem is when I do thoroughly RT#M, and instead of telling me how to keep the recovery partition safe from damage, the manual just tells me not to edit the partitions at all. Even worse, it tells me not to edit the partition table in a manner not recommended by the user's guide even though *there is no recommendation about partition tables in the user's guide to start with*.
When the manual doesn't give me all the information I need --- And as Horwath correctly implied, they never will because they shouldn't --- I turn to user fora. Now the real problem begins when all I can get from the user forum are the very same legal disclaimers I find in the manual. In no other user-to-user forum I get that kind of attitude.
Actually, this doesn't look like a user to user forum at all!
I *don't* want to blame Toshiba for it. Toshiba products are great, and I have two Toshibas at home because I recommended them to my closest relatives and in laws. As soon as my 5 year old Dell starts aging (and it still hasn't), I will think of buying a Satellite for myself and I will create a recovery disc. *But that's just not what I have at hand now*.
What's missing is just a clearer and more objective communication. And by objective I don't mean +click here and buy a new recovery CD+.

  • SSD in Bios and can be used as storage but not as general drive

Hello I need some help and was pointed here by another MS Forum. The following is where I am at so far:
    Hello,
I need some help. I have bought a SanDisk SSD and intalled it into my PC with the hope I could go from HDD to SSD but although the
BIOS appears to show that it has picked the drive up and it can be used as Storage Space, I am not able to use it as a general or main drive or migrate so it becomes the main drive.
I have Win 8.1 pro with media and a Asrock ConRoe 1333-D667 Motherboard.
    Any help possible?

    Hi Luke,
For a better understanding of the issue, when you say “main drive”, do you want Windows 8.1 to be installed on SSD drive?
You may create System Image of Windows 8.1 from HDD. Then remove HDD from the computer. Now Restore System Image to SSD and check if
    it works.
To take System Image refer to the article.
How to create a system image to refresh your
    Windows 8 PC
To restore files to SSD, follow these steps.
    a. Open
Recovery by pressing Windows Key + C, and typing
Control Panel. In the search box, type recovery, and then click Recovery.
    b. Click
    Advanced recovery methods.
    c. Click
Use a system image you created earlier to recover your computer, and then follow the steps.
Hope this information helps. Reply to the post with updated status of the issue to assist you further.

    Thank you,
Yes I would like Windows to run from the SSD.
The main problem I have is when I tried to clone the drive to SSD it not even registering as a drive the same if I try doing a clean
    install.
It shows as an available drive to clone to if I set it as a storage device but then when you attempt it it says not enough room even
though the drive has 127gb available and the drive being cloned only has bout 105gb on it.

    Hi Luke,
Issues related to cloning drives are supported in TechNet Forums. I would suggest you to post the query in TechNet Forums.
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/home?category=w8itpro
    Hope this information helps.

    Hi!
If you have the possibility to do a clean installation, which I can see that you have, this is the best option.
What you need to do is to remove all drives from your computer, then connect the SSD only, enter BIOS and change the SATA Compability mode to AHCI.
Then install Windows to your drive and when completed, attach the other drives again.
    I hope this helps!

  • How can I use bluetooth on my Satellite C850-B906

Please help me. How can I use bluetooth on my C850-B906 Satellite. I can't find it on the search bottom and even in PC Device, bluetooth is not there. This laptop has bluetooth according to its specs. (Bluetooth / W-LAN (802.11B/G/N).
Any good answer will be highly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi
First of all: you are right: the Satellite C850-B906 supports Bluetooth
    http://www.toshibamea.com/CSPDF/Satellite_C850-B906-52424.pdf?ran=4qmi69d8z1
But the notebook was not preinstalled with an Windows system and therefore I guess you installed the Windows OS (which one?) at you own hand.
Probably you did not install the essential software / drivers which would allow you to use the BT
The Realtek WLan module supports BT and therefore you have to install the Bluetooth Filter Driver Package a well as the BT stack from Toshiba driver page.
After that you have to use the function key combination to enable the BT.

  • Can you use a HDD as storage for Win 7 and Mountain Lion installed on a separate SSD?

I replaced the stock 500 GB HDD on my 15 inch 2012 Macbook Pro with a 128 GB SSD, but I need more storage. I've also installed Windows 7 on the SSD on a partition via Bootcamp. My question is, can I install the HDD in the optical drive bay using a caddy and can I use the it's 500 GB as storage for both operating systems? Thank you.

You can do that without any problem, and that's what most people do. You will only need to format the HDD with exFAT or FAT32 (do it on Windows), and it will be read by Windows and OS X

  • Can I use a recovery disc on a new 120 GB SSD for HP Envy 17 that previously had 2 500GB RAID 0?

I currently have a HP Envy 17-2070NR.  I would like to install a new SSD (120 GB) to replace one of the 500 GB HD that are currently in the laptop (the 2 drives are set up RAID 0).
If I install the new drive and remove the two old ones can I use the recovery discs to reinstall windows/drivers/default programs?

The 500GB MyBook Pro should work fine. Just be sure to use a Firewire connection (not USB) to your Mac and format the drive as Mac OS Extended - Journaled. It will come from the factory as FAT32, so you'll need to reformat it. But wait - don't reformat it until you offload the ButtonManager, FW Driver and Retrospect software. You will need the first two to install your drive.
And that's one of the reasons I stay away from the MyBook drives - they were really designed for Windows systems, not Macs. For one, they have their own FireWire drivers and I see no reason to be required to install device-specific drivers on my Mac in order to use a consumer-grade hard drive. As far as I'm concerned, that's just bad design (or, perhaps design for systems other than Macs ...).
The 500GB Lacie Big Disk did get a bunch of bad reviews. However, the 500GB Lacie d2 Extreme is the same price and has much better reviews. The Lacie d2 Extreme drives are quite reliable; I have many and not one of them has failed me over the years. The 320GB d2 Extreme is currently $140 at newegg.com. See how that compares to the price of the MyBook.
