Satellite U205-S5057 reformat error : BOOTMGR missing

hi,
I am trying to reformat the hard drive of my Satellite U205-S5057 using the Toshiba recovery disks. When i first booted with the recovery disk i chose the out-of-the-box factory default reformatting option. After it had finished erasing all the data, it rebooted and started copying files from the recovery disks. I got this "BOOTMGR missing" error when i was told to insert the second disk. The Hard drive is good - has been working fine till now. My guess is this is some sort of software issue related to the reformatting. Any suggestion?
I read somewhere i should try copying the recovery disk because it might fix the error. Is that right? Also, the disks are apparently DVD formate, is it possible to download the recovery software on a CD (since i only have CD R/W and DVD R/O)
Thanks
Liz

I bought Toshiba A200 - part no. PSAF6A-02J01N - serial no. 77100112Q in September 07.
I have made a recovery disk of the system onto DVD (2 in total - ie disk 1 and 2), prior to using / installing personal software in my new notebook. I had much difficulty in "seeing" other Windows XP computers on my existing network (I am using Linksys Wireless/Wired router). The XP computers can "see" my Toshiba but can not share or access the Toshiba data, which is running Vista Home Premium.
The more I changed the network settings, the slower my Toshiba appeared.
I did a reinstall using the Toshiba recovery but that failed and I could no longer get back into the Windows Desktop.
When I used the recovery DVD I had burned from this laptop earlier, I followed the menu, which made me delete all data and partition. This step was successful. However, after a long period of copying files from the recovery dvd no.1, I got the message: "Recovery Error 10-FC06-0002" . It never asked for the 2nd DVD!
Other attempts included wiping the partition using the recovery DVD. At one time, I got the message:
Yukon PXE v5.17.2.3 (20061031)
Pre-boot eXecution Env (PXE) v2.1
PXE-E61 Media Test Failure, check cable
PXE-M0F: Exiting PXEROM
I tried to install WXP professional from an orginial DVD but it would not install - saying that XP setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in the computer!

*EDIT*
Have solved the issue installing the Intel Matrix Storage Manager firstly ;)
Thanks to all!

  • Satellite M300: bootmgr missing after Recovery has failed

I tried to reinstall Vista using Toshiba recovery disk... when i tried to do it took long time to copy files and then it asked for next disk.
Even after inserting 2 disk it still asks for insert next disk... I had no choice and i cancelled it...
When i booted again it said bootmgr missing
    'CTRL+ALT+DELETE' to restart
I stuck up don't know what to do.
    pls tell me sme suggestions

    Hi
The error bootmgr missing appears because the Recovery procedure hasnt finished and the old bootmgr was destroyed.
It looks like your second DVD is not readable for no apparent reason.
Maybe you could try to recover the notebook using the HDD recovery option.
Maybe the partition was not damage during the recovery procedure from DVD.
So press F8 after notebook was powered up. Choose first option called Repair my Computer. Choose last option Toshiba Recovery and try to recover the notebook from HDD.
If it doesnt work then you could boot from the original Vista DVD and could try to repair the boot manager.
In worst case you would have to reinstall the OS from the Microsoft Vista DVD or you will order a new Recovery DVD from Toshiba.
    Good luck

  • Bootmgr missing after recovery discs

    Hello,
So I have recently had to factory reset my laptop which wiped everything clean including losing a restore point. I purchased the 3 recovery discs from HP 2 x Win 7 recovery media DVD's (Part 1 and 2) and the application and driver recovery DVD.
When going through the restore process the 2 recovery discs were absolutely fine whether the app and driver DVD was ejected after 5 seconds saying the computer didn't need it and it would be recovered from the hardrive. When I press finish and it restarts itself the screen goes black and comes up with a message saying "BOOTMGR MISSING CTRL + ALT + DEL to restart".
The order of the boot menu is the internal CD/DVD ROM first then the hardrive which I worked out in the BIOS menu.
Not sure what to do next especially as it doesn't want to accept the app and driver dvd. And have tested the HDD and Memory both passed no problem. I have tried removing the HDD and rehousing it then retesting it but made no difference to result.

    HI @Grantc42 ,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
It is a terrific place to find answers and information!
For you to have the best experience in the HP forum I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide Learn How to Post and More
I grasp that when you tried to do a recovery from the disks supplied by HP after the first two it informed you that the remaining two were not required and would be recovered from the hard drive.  The boot order is set to optical drive first and hard drive second.  When you tried to boot to the hard drive you received the error ""BOOTMGR MISSING CTRL + ALT + DEL to restart.  You have tested the hard drive and memory and no issues were found
Try changing the boot order to hard drive first
Restore the defaults from the bios screen. This will allow it to scan for the attached hard ware.
If the issue remains, I would try a full recovery one more time and if the issue remains contact HP support for further assistance.

  • Satellite U205 - DVD drive problems

I purchased a Satellite U205-S5057 last year with Vista on it. For the first month, every video file burned just fine. After that, I've downloaded all sorts of codecs and trial versions of DVD burning software just to have it keep burning DVDs.
After all the downloads, naturally, they started to conflict. I ran a system recovery and hoped it would clean out all the conflicts. I put some videos on a CD-rw and transferred them to my notebook to burn. When I clicked on the D:/ it said "D:/ no application". Then I re-installed Realplayer from the internet and now it burns in Realplayer 1 out of every 10 or so tries.
Does anyone know why I have so many problems with my CD/DVD drive? Also, it always says D:/ is a DVD drive even when I put in a CD. Is this right?

    Hi
Did you try to remove the upper and lower filters from the registry entry?
    Not? Ok try this:
First of all remove the CD/DVD drive from the device manager.
Then remove the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters values completely from the following registry key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Finally reboot the machine and restart the system.
The Windows OS should recognize the drive and should reinstall it again.

    Hi
What kind of DVDs you are using for creating a Toshiba recovery disc? As yet I have tried Verbatim DVD-R and TDK DVD-R and never had a problem with these discs. Friend of tried DVD+R and he couldnt create a recovery disc. After that he tried DVD-R and all was fine but I dont know why this happened.
    So please try other discs.
Furthermore check the Toshiba page for a firmware update of CD/DVD drive. Maybe it will help you.

  • BOOTMGR Missing during reimage

Been having trouble with my Satellite P755-S5120 for a while. It would turn off randomly while I was using it, and turn off or restart during boot up. So I backed up my files on an external hard drive and started the process to restore to factory condition. I got to the point where the Toshiba Recovery Wizard was up and running, initializing the process, when the laptop shut down. I waited a few minutes and nothing happened, then finally it restarted with the message "Bootmgr missing press ctrl+alt+del to restart"
Did a little research and found that if I had the Windows install disk (I do) I could repair my pc by booting from the cd. I see that to do this I need to go into the BIOS and change my settings to boot from CD. Problem is, when I turn on the computer it goes immediately to the bootmgr is missing, so I can't get to the BIOS to change the setting.
So, is there any way I can bypass this to get to the BIOS? Or any other steps I could take to get the system restore process going again?

Usually if tapping F2 doesn't work to get into the BIOS, try holding it as you start the laptop. You should also be able to get to the boot menu by tapping F12 or holding F12 as you start the laptop.

  • Notebook shows BOOTMGR missing after running return system to factory condition

I have a HP Pavilion Entertainment notebook Model #dv7 3163cl. First I need to say I am a beginner user. My problem started with a low battery issue. Then using recovery mgr. I first ran back up disks and then attempted system restore. During which it shut off. When I tried to restart it it originally said something about starting like new from factory. Then said unable to load windows program. I contacted hp and tech had me purchase a 1 year phone support plan. Then had me go th the recovery manager and select restore to factory image. During which it gave this message. Recovery Manager could not restore computer using the fzctory image. Please contact HP support. Error code 0xe0ef0003. He said that meant I need a new hard drive. Now when I turn it on it says BOOTMGR Missing. Use ctrl apt Del to start but that does not work. It does nothing. Could the tech be right? Is there a way I can check my disk first? Or another way to tell? It wasn't the original problem so I'm not confident in his determination. Should I be?

Immediately after powering on tap the Esc key. This should bring up a menu of which F2 is what you want to choose. Use Diagnostics to test your hard drive.

  • More 'Bootmgr missing' problems

    Hello,
What am I missing?  I have a Toshiba Satellite A215-S7462 with Windows Vista.  It gives me a 'BOOTMGR is missing' on start up.  I have no Toshiba disks.  I can get into command prompt using a generic recovery disk found online.  If I try the start up-repair option, it does not find the Vista operating system. It appears that the partitions (C:, Boot-X, E: Toshiba System Volume) seem to be intact and occupied.  I have tried the 'hold zero and power up' and it gives the same 'bootmgr missing' message. I have tried to research it several places and none of the 'fixes' work.  Is there something that can perhaps be done from the command prompt to recover the machine?  I am not really concerned with saving the old data, just in getting back a working machine.  ANY suggestions or direction will be appreciated.  Sid

Well, I tried, anyway.  The only thing I seem to find on this forum are reports of 'lack of customer support' by Toshiba, which will, at least, stand me in good stead when I choose my next computer (which may not be long at this rate<G?>).  I have the hard drive mounted in another computer and all the directories/files, WinPE, TOSIMG, etc seem to be available, but what to do with them from here or the command prompt is another question.  The final report in  the repair log file is "Root cause found: --------------------------- Boot manager is missing or corrupt."  Just where it is, was or should be is well beyond me.  Can it be found or reconstructed anywhere with the hard drive or must I do a format and new install?  Again, thanks and any ideas appreciated.  Sid

  • Bootcamp not starting, BOOTMGR missing

Hello all, hope you're having happy holidays.  Anyways, I foolishly attempted to increase the size of my bootcamp partition using Disk Utility and failed, only creating a second partition for my Macintosh HD.  I deleted the second partition and attempted to re-allocate the space to the original Macintosh HD, but not only am I not able to do that but I can't boot back into Windows via Bootcamp.  When holding the option key while starting I only get the options "Macintosh HD" and "Recovery".  I do get the option to select Windows 7 as the startup disk under System Preferences, but while starting I get the error message "BOOTMGR Missing, Press any key to restart" and I my keyboard doesn't respond so I have to hold power to restart into OSX.  I've seen other users with this issue so I was hoping maybe someone could provide me with some help on this.  I have a Mid-2009 13-inch MacBook Pro, with a 2.53ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, running OSX 10.9.5.  Thank you for any help in advance.

Nevermind.  I created a Windows install "disc" using Bootcamp, a thumb drive, and my Windows iso.  Then I selected Windows as the startup disk under preferences and loaded into the Windows installer on the thumb drive.  I selected "repair this computer", rand "chkdsk" in the command prompt, and ran the automatic repair tool.  After it restarted I held option and Windows showed up on the startup disk options.  Thanks for nothin

  • Error " Data missing for the entry check while creating a new waste code

Hi all, While setting a new Waste code I get the error " Data missing for the entry check, correction:". while filling the NAM- WASTECOCAT - LER item.
This sould look for the catalog's name included in the phrase set but for some reason it doesn't find it giving me this error.
I am changing original Characteristics, phrase set, classes, and value assignment type. Just to have my own estructure with Znames for all of them.
I have also change the enviroment parameter "WAM_PHRSET_WACATLG" with the name of my phrase set.
I have checked everything several times watching for typos or looking for a missing step.
I have even tried including my new Z's characteristics in the classe and living the original SAP_EHS_1024_001_WASTE_CATALOG. (changing the enviroment parameter WAM_PHRSET_WACATLG to SAP_EHS_1024_001_WASTE_CATALOG) and it works.
I will like to change this characteristic by Z_EHS_WA_WASTE_CATALOG
    Phrase set to Z_EHS_WA_WASTE_CATALOG.
    enviroment parameter WAM_PHRSET_WACATLG= Z_EHS_WA_WASTE_CATALOG
After matching up the master data It should work fine but I might be missing something to get it running ok.
    ¿Any idea?
    Regards,
    Alvaro

Hello Juan Carlos, the value and class that I want to duplicate and doesn't work is for Waste Code, I have also duplicated the one you have displayed (waste pproperties) without any problem.
1.I have duplicated and changed class SAP_EHS_1024_001. to Z_EHS_WA
    2. Create a copy of the 5 characteristics included in this class.
    SAP_EHS_1024_001_WASTE_CATALOG
    SAP_EHS_1024_001_WASTE_CODE
    SAP_EHS_1024_001_WA_SUBCATEG
    SAP_EHS_1024_001_WA_CATEGORY
    SAP_EHS_1024_001_REMARK
    change the name by
    Z_EHS_WA_WASTE_CATALOG
    Z_EHS_WA_WASTE_CODE
    Z_EHS_WA_SUBCATEG
    Z_EHS_WA_CATEGORY
    Z_EHS_WA_REMARK.
I checked the funcion C14K_WASTECATLG_CHECK is in the value of the Z_EHS_WA_WASTE_CODE characteristic
I checked the funcion C14K_WASTECODE_CHECK is in the value of the Z_EHS_WA_WASTE_CATALOG characteristic
    3. Create phrase sets for each new category. with same name.
    4. Match up the master data.
    5. Change the enviroment parameter.to Z_EHS_WA_WASTE_CATALOG
I think I have followed all the steps, but for some reason it doesn't find the catalog
The phrase for the catalog is EWC in english and LER in spanish.

    Alvaro.

  • Error message: Missing PDF maker files in Word 2007

OK, I am beyond frustrated. I have had nothing but trouble with Windows Vista and Adobe Acrobat. Please help!!!
What happens: first, the pdf addin for Word 2007 suddenly becomes disabled, for no apparent reason. Forget about trying to re-enable it through the Add-Ins menu, because Word tells me that the "connected state of Office Add-Ins registered in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE cannot be changed". This is a problem for me, because I use a special font (Vietnamese) that sometimes gets corrupted when running pdf maker. The only consistent way I have found to avoid this problem is to run the pdf maker as "Quick PDF" and as far as I can see that option is only available through the pdf addin in Word, I have never been able to find it when I open the Acrobat program and create a pdf from there.
Second problem: shortly after the pdf addin becomes disabled, my Acrobat program loses the ability to create pdfs altogether. I get the error message "Missing PDF maker files". Yes, I have tried repairing the installation and re-starting my computer per the instructions given. It doesn't fix the problem. I also tried looking in the Knowledge Database on this website, but it appears that the instructions they have to fix the problem there are for earlier versions of Word, not 2007, because my version of word does not look like the version of Word in their little videos.
This is the second time this has happened. The first time I resolved the problem by a) re-installing Acrobat, which is a pain because it involves calling Adobe and wading through their customer service to get a new installation number, and b) paying a computer repair service to dig deep into the guts of my computer and convince it to change the Office Add-ins to allow the pdf addin again. It worked for about 6 months, and now I have the same problem again. For some reason Vista is spontaneously disabling Acrobat.
I simply cannot deal with this every few months. We all know that Vista is a crappy program, but I run a business and I need a program that works with whatever crappy program Microsoft puts out. Please, can anyone give me suggestions about how to re-enable these functions when Vista disables them?
    Thanks in advance!
