Satellite U400-150 (PSU45E) - ALPS touchpad issue

Hello,
I am trying to solve some issues regarding touchpad. My Toshiba U400-150 PSU45E has been equiped in ALPS touchpad (instead od synaptics, which is much better by the way).
Previously I worked on another manufactures laptop with Synaptics and the software for it had advanced options, better than ALPS.
1. When I use ALPS driver the movement of coursor seems to be little "jumpy", any movement regulations don't help. So I uninstalled ALPS driver, installed Synaptisc and the movement was fluent. However the software for Synaptics did not include all the advanced options (such as touch areas, scrolling, etc). Therefore I restored the driver for ALPS again, and the 'jumpy' movement returned. I assume that the driver is not as good as synaptics.
2. I need actually emulation for middle button. In synaptisc there was such option in "touch areas". I was using top right corner for emulation of middle mouse button. I was searching for such option in ALPS driver but there is no any .
I woud be gratefull for any sollutions, suggestions regarding issue 1 and 2. Is there any possibility to emulate middle mouse button in ALPS?
TIA.

Vista, however I am pretty sure that the "jumpy" movement depends on the driver, when I use any Linux (liveCD), the movement is smooth.
I have already updated the driver, didn't help.
The most annoying problem is that I can not emulate the middle mouse button in ALPS driver.
Is there any third party software that could do that?

  • Satellite Pro L300 - Keyboard and touchpad issues

    Hi
I have just baught my GF a refurbed Toshiba laptop for her 21st birthday from a reliable source, its a Satellite Pro L300.
I started it up did all the setup stuff it told me to only to find that the touchpad and keyboard will not work AT ALL.
The keyboard caps lock key doesn't even light up when I press it,
I've downloaded all the latest drivers for EVERYTHING inc. the touchpad, this has made no difference,
I'm running out of ideas fast and coming to terms with the fact that the keyboard and touchpad might be faulty and as a result ill have to give my GF a faulty laptop for hewr 21st, not happy :(
    Does any1 have any ideas?
    Thanks :)
Edit: OK, very odd, right after i sent this message i tried the keyboard one more time and it works fine?
Could it be something 2 do with the downloading of the VAP package?
The touch pad is still knackered even when i try the fn + f9 combo?
2nd Edit: Ok now the keyboard has stopped working again!
    WHAT ON EARTH!?

    Hi
Looks like a keyboard issue. who knows why it doesnt work looks like something would be wrong
I recommend visiting your dealer and asking for replacement
Otherwise you could contact the ASP in your country for a fix
I think this is everything what you could do
    Good luck

  • Satellite P300-1AN - Touchpad issue with AC adapter

I've a Satellite P300-1AN notebook and since the beginning (two weeks)
I have a touchpad issue: it is not immediately responsive and the pointer trembles when touching the pad. Very often it freezes for just one or two seconds.
This is VERY annoying. A USB mouse works perfectly.
I tried reinstalling ALPS drivers, tried Synaptics ones, tried just Windows Vista drivers: no way.
Now I have found the reason: this issue is present only when the notebook is powered by AC adapter.
With battery the touchpad is perfect.
I contacted Toshiba Service and thay said that they won't change the AC adapter if I don't try before a complete system restore!
Isn't it simpler just try with a new adapter and only then, if the problem persists, try more drastic procedures?
Has anyone had this same issue?

The point is that your notebook should be always checked using the Toshiba factory configuration.
Why? Because the ASP wants to be sure that this issue is not related to a software problem (compatibility issue with 3rd party applications). The software issues are not covered by warranty.
Furthermore the ASP will always recover the notebook before checking any hardware parts for a malfunction. Therefore you should always backup your data from the HDD before you will send the notebook for checking.
I would recommend to reinstall the OS using the Toshiba recover disk and then check if the issue would appears.
If yes then you can contact the ASP again and could provide all details which are necessary for an technician.
    Bye

  • Toshiba Satellite C855-SS530 touchpad issues: left-click randomly releases

Brand new Toshiba Satellite C855-SS530 Windows 8. My touchpad will very often respond erratically. As I hold down on the left button and scroll, often times scroll will randomly release and then sometimes re-engage. This will happen with web pages, holding windows, etc. I'll be dragging a window or file or what-have-you, it will release the hold of it's own accord (without me releasing the left button) then sometimes re-engage (picking up other random files, selecting stuff on the desktop or other random things I didn't want to do). Most often I am holding down the left button and scrolling down a web page, and it will randomly "let go" of the scroll (before I have let go of the left button). Occassionally the touchpad will not immediately respond. It's too annoying to keep this laptop.
It isn't clear to me whether this is hardware or software related...Could be a bad button, bad touchpad, loose wire, or even a memory-glitch error which disrupts the touchpad signal. Does anyone know if this is a known issue with the Satellite C855-S5350. The touchpad is vital. It can't glitch out even 1% of the time. If I can't solve the issue, it'll likely be returned. I turned off most of the Synaptics silly stuff (edge swipe, etc) and it didn't resolve anything. There are nearly no services running eating up RAM so I have no idea why the touchpad would be freezing up...

You might want to try these suggestions:
The touchpad does not work properly

  • Battery issue on Satellite U400

I bought my Dad a Satellite U400 10J laptop for his birthday just under 2 years ago. Being over 60 and not too enthusiatic about using a laptop, he left the unit in his cupboard for close to a year before turning on. The first problem materialsed with the laptop not turning on with the "Battery not recognised" error. Subsequent updating of the BIOS got the laptop to startup. However, despite now charging (or appearing to charge) the battery only retains about 10 minutes of charge. This has progressively gotten worse to the point that the only way to use the laptop is to keep it constantly plugged in. Which as you can imagine, limits the utility of having a laptop in the first place.
I did take it back to the retailer and since I had purchased a warrantly extension, was hoping that they would replace the battery. They refused indicating that the battery is not covered and that by not using the laptop intitially after purchase, I had in effect damaged the battery.
Is this possible? Can a battery to irrevocably damaged through inactivity? I think that the period was around 9 months during which he had not even unwrapped it from the box.
If it is, are replacement batteries an option or should I order an orginal Toshiba battery? Also, are there extended life battery options available for this model?
    Thanks in advance

yes, it can take place. It's recommended to charge the battery full even if not used. You should use original Toshiba batteries Don't think that there is extended life battery option available

  • Wireless issue with Satellite U400

    Hello guys,
my laptop is Satellite U400-10n. (OS Vista)
It was running perfectly. But now I cannot connect to a wireless network. When I search for a wireless network, sometimes nothing comes up. I'm using cisco network magic program but it didn't help. I tried everything. I disabled the Bluetooth devise. I turned off all the Bluetooth devices around (cell phones). I have a cordless phone; I turned it off as well.
I tried to update the wireless network device, but didn't help either.
Please guys I need your help.

For WLAN configuration you don't need to use additional applications and you can configure it using Windows settings.
Anyway, check all WLAN settings. Be sure the WLAN card and your router uses the same WLAN standard, try to restart your router.
Have you tried to connect your notebook to some other WLAN?
Can your notebook detect other WLANs?

  • Satellite U500 - ALPS touchpad driver for WIndows 7 64bit

I have a U500-00X012 (Australian Model) which I have updated to Windows 7 64bit. The Toshiba Australia website says to use the Vista 64bit ALPS touchpad driver. I could not get any Vista driver to work with my U500.
The correct driver is available from the Toshiba Europe website http://support1.toshiba-tro.de/tedd-files2/0/tpdrv-20091112112139.zip
    The driver is v7.105.303.117
Hope this saves somebody the many hours I have wasted trying to get the touchpad to work.

    Hi TwoLags,
when I installed any of the three versions of 64 bit Vista drivers available on the Toshiba Australia Website, they all install fine without any errors. After rebooting the laptop Device Manager says the ALPS touchpad is installed and working correctly. The icon for the touchpad appears on the taskbar but the touchpad just does not work at all!!
The driver link that I posted installs just the same as the other drivers, but it actually works.
I have no idea why the Toshiba Australia website only links to drivers that don't work and the Toshiba Europe website links to later drivers that do work. I have asked Toshiba Australia Support this question.

  • Satellite U400-135 overheats

    Hi,
Few weeks back I bought new Toshiba Satellite U400-138 and now I feel it is an inferior design due to many complains I found either here in the support forum or from the people who tried to deal with this series .
Fist of all the overheat issue becomes not affordable as I all about to loose my fingers due to extreme heat comes from the touch pad bottom level !! moreover it usually takes more than 7 minutes to get the windows logon screen while starting up the windows and when you access the windows it keeps showing CPU usage almost 100% for long time just by clicking the internet explorer so i can not do any thing except waiting (it is killing slow) and when i compare it with my old P4 desktop i feel how much i was wrong when i decided to go for the U-400 !
Today I am decided to take the laptop back to local Toshiba dealer and when I was there I tried to touch the lower part of the similar model availbel in the show room and it was extremely hot and when I asked the sales man there he informed me that there are many customers reported the same complain then I have been referred to their service center for inspection and I am so boring now because my new laptop will be serviced after just two weeks only and , I think this model is an inferior design and the only way to get rid of this problem to get the same replaced by something else?!!!!!
your valuable feedback is highly apprciated.

    Hi Will
Ive got a U400 too. Its a U400 which belongs to the PSU40E series.
I use both OS; Vista and XP.
At the beginning the Vista started slowly it was not too slow but slower as the Win XP.
    I investigated a little bit and found a solution;
Firstly I found out that many background processes and applications have been loaded at the beginning of the booting procedure In MSCONFIG you can find these applications.
I have disabled some not necessary (for me) programs and the notebook booted much faster.
Furthermore I have noticed that Tempro tool update helped a lot.
So please check these both proposals.
I'm sure it would help you...
    Regarding the higher touchpad temperature;
Well, my touchpad is also warmer as the rest of the notebook cover but this is nothing unusual because the cooling modules are placed below this touchpad and the left hand side is always warmer due to the heat dissipation on this notebook side
So you shouldnt be worried; this is nothing unusual
Bye & have a nice day

  • Satellite U400 BIOS 4.0 doesn't work - error 120

    Hello to All.
I tried updating my u400 with the newest 4.0 BIOS, and WinPhlash says BIOS is incompatible with current system BIOS + New BIOS part number doesn't match system bios part number. Error 120.
It says i should refer to the Help, but there is no .hlp to open...
I know I downloaded the proper file, i've flashed BIOS previously, i now have version 3.7
Anyone know how to solve this issue / had the same issue?
    Tamás Lengyel

What is the exact model number of your Satellite U400?
I have checked the Toshiba website and I can find different model numbers of Satellite U400 so I think not every BIOS is compatible with every U400.
So check the Toshiba website again and choose your model on the list:

    Notebook => Satellite => Satellite U Series => Satellite U400 => (*Short Model No*)

  • Satellite U400 (PSU44E) randomely rebooting

    Hi Everybody,
I have a strange problem on my Satellite U400.
For a couple of days it was starting sending blue screens and rebooting.
I used the Vista memory check tool and identified one faulty RAM.
I changed both with OCZ 2*2Go PC6400, and no more problems according to the vista memory check tool.
But now, sometimes it works fine, sometimes I have blue screens and even sometimes it is rebooting wothout bluescreen just like that...pshh...
The other thing I noticed is that I have some times some strange lines appearing randomely on the screen like a bad contact....
I have updated the drivers of the motherboard, the diplay, and the BIOS...
    I have no more clues....
    Has someone an idea?
    Thanks,
    Furby

    Hi
First of all the links to the images dont work.
Secondly it would be interesting to know if your warranty is valid.
If yes, then you should contact the ASP in your country before you would replace any RAM and other hardware parts. Usually the warranty should cover such replacements.
Ive got a U400 too and my notebook is running fine. I upgraded the RAM too but I used the DDR2 667MHz (PC2-5300) 200-PIN SODIMM modules.
I dont know why you used the PC6400 (800Mhz) but maybe this issue is really related to the RAM issue.
Possibly the higher temperature could affect the functionality of the modules which would lead to the BSOD.
Did you notice an higher temperature inside the notebook?
    How about fan cleaning?
You could remove the dust from cooling grilles using the compressed air spray
I think its worth a try

  • Satellite U400-11U - no sound when using headphone

    Hi everybody .
i has get a Toshiba Satellite U400 (u400-11u) with Vista installed and at the first use all work nice and i have never tried the headphone, but after sometimes, when I put on the connecteur on the jack of headphone there is no sound, only when I put off the connecteur out of jack, the speaker work.
I has learn that I must update my BIOS and I doing it : no solution, there is no sound, so I have change to XP SP3 the some problem and now I'm with Windows 7 with the some problem.
So if you have any information about this problem, please give'it to me !!
I have tried all solution in FAQ, but no way !!
PS : sorry for language mistakes !!

Unfortunately I cannot offer you 100% working solution because I don't have exact the same notebook model but what I can say is that I think BIOS has nothing to with this issue.
It is very interesting that you have tested it with different operating systems and different headphones but the situation is always the same. What can be the problem?
At the end I believe this port is somehow defective. I have three different laptops here on the desk and hear internet radio almost all day. When I use my headset with all three laptops the reaction is always the same. Internal speakers will be disabled and I can hear music on my headset.
Maybe you should contact nearest authorized service provider and ask for help. Let them check the port.
One more thing: when you start notebook for the first time (factory settings) everything must works properly. If you have noticed this issue from that moment I really think there is a hardware problem.

  • Satellite U400 will not usually boot up

    Hi all,
    I have a Toshiba Satellite U400-217 (PSU44E) running Windows 8.
Worked fine until a week ago. Now, when I switch it on, the indicator lights light up, there is a brief hard drive spin (1 second) - and then nothing. The lights above the keyboard stay lit, but the screen stays black.
I read a reset remedy where you take the battery and power cable out and hold the power button for 30 seconds, then plug the power cable back in, boot up, shut down, reinsert battery and boot up again.
However, the machine will still not boot up after the 30-second button hold. I still just get the lights and nothing else.
However, the machine will generally boot up fine on one attempt out of every 30 or so.
It's annoying - any ideas or suggestions very gratefully received.
    Many thanks,
    KaiBosh

    > However, the machine will generally boot up fine on one attempt out of every 30 or so.
In my opinion you should firstly check the HDD
A friend of mine installed Win 8 on new notebook from another manufacturer
After some time the notebook could not boot up I thought its something wrong with motherboard but finally it was just an HDD malfunction
To be honest I dont know if its only HDD issue but in my opinion the HDD is one of the first parts which should be checked
Ok, in worst case it could be possible that mobo malfunctions.

  • Satellite U400 wont turn on & when on wont come back from sleep mode

I have a Satellite U400 and its a year and a few months old.
In the last little bit it has been acting up, and it started with when the computer goes to sleep and goes to the black blank screen it will not come back from that.
The only way to do anything is hold in the power key till it turns off and then turning it back on. This brings me to the warning screen I have turned my computer off incorrectly. It has been doings this for a few weeks and started randomly out of the blue.
Then just today it wouldnt turn on at all, I was pressing the power key and the key itself would light up, and on the bottom right hand side the little lights would light up but wouldnt turn on, I kept pressing it over and over and over again and finally it did turn on. Once on I only used it for a few mins before turning off again and then would do the same thing, I kept pressing the bottom till it turned on. Its been on now and hasnt turned off again.
Not to log ago I had to reformat my computer due to me forgeting my password and had locked myself out of the computer. About a week after that is when the issues started. I am not all that computer smart, to be honest, I do understand something things, I can follow step by step to do something.
I really dont want to pay to have it fix I want to just do it myself and soon as its in great shape and never had any issues before.
Does anyone have any idea what this could be, or why it could be?
I am thinking about reformatting again as I am worried that didnt work out right the 1st time or something.
Or if this is something that needs to be repaired does anyone have a clue on the cost of it?
    Thanks ^_^

    hi aev270,
sounds like a serious problem to me.
try the following: take out battery, cd-rom, hdd and try again.
if it starts up without this components - you got lucky!
this means it probably a software issue (but i dont think so - sorry)
do you see the toshiba logo / bios messages? no - the you are in trouble.
this strange behaviour could depend on many things: defektive components like ram or grafics... or (badest thing) the mainboard...
if you have still warranty on it you should go to a servicepartner having the system checked.

No smart Paolo, i dont know about smart but now this is second time i tell you, its not the same question it's not about the same driver even.
    Read carefuly and you'll see.
It doesnt seem you can help people so good, so plz if you can't help and HAVE NOT knowledge and are not good at PC-solution then it's better to not post at all.... Because if i have followed your help maybe my laptop now would be destroyed, since you said i had wrong drivers for my Graphic Card, i was close to follow your instructions and to mess up and maybe even destroy by uninstalling and installing drivers, because Graphics are senestive now , but i am glad i did not follow your Instructions Paolo30.

  • Satellite U400 - Internal microphone is too quiet

I am running on Windows7 x64. I have downloaded latest sound drivers (4.98.6.61) and now is internal microphone very quiet although its volume is on max.
I had Vista x64 before and everything was ok. I have tried Vista drivers on Windows 7, but nothing changed - still quiet mic.
    Thanks for an advice.

    Hi
I had the same issue with my Satellite U400 but on Vista. After updating the sound driver and BIOS the issue did still exist.
After searching a little bit here in the forum I activated the microphone boost and this was the solution! :)
1.Open the "Control Panel" (Standard view)
    2.Click on "Hardware and Sound"
    3.Click on "Sound"
    4.Click on the "Recording" tab.
5.Mark the Microphone and then press on the "Properties" button.
6.Click on the Custom tab and set the check by Microphone Boost
    Check this!!
