Satellite U405-S2830 - cannot output to TV playing a DVD

I can output to my TV just fine when I'm not playing a DVD
But when I play a DVD (I've tried using Toshiba DVD player and Windows Media player) I get error messages and the DVD won't play through.
I get "unable to output the video to an external device" from the Toshiba DVD player.
I've researched this online a lot but found nothing for this model computer.
I've tried updating the device drivers but none have worked. Does anyone know the solution to this?

Hi
You have to switch to the TV BEFORE starting a DVD movie!
So firstly switch to TV output pressing FN + F5 and then start the windows media player or other DVD software like VLC player.
VLC player is my favorite. Its free and it plays nearly all video formats.

Loud clicking sound when trying to play a DVD

HP Pavilion Ultimate d4995t desktop PC with Realteck High Definition Audio. Vista Premium O/S. I play my sound via my HDMI cable to the speakers in my monitor. When I attempt to play a DVD in the DVD drive, I get a loud clicking noise with no sound from the DVD. This only happens to DVD's. CDs play sound without a problem. If I copy the same DVD files to the hard drive, I can play it from the hard drive and sound works. If I plug in speakers to the audio-out and disable the HDMI output, I can play the DVD in the DVD drive and the sound plays through those speakers without the noise. I have ran Microsoft sound tool without success. Updated all the sound drivers. I reloaded Vista, that corrected the problem. But as time went on the problem came back. I suspect the problem was caused by an Microsoft update. Anyone have any suggestions?

Hi,
Yes, it happens after installing Service Pack for Vista through Windows Update.
Click Start->'Control Panel -> Sound -> Playback -> Select Realtek HDMI Output, click Properties. Click Advanced Tab above,
Unclick 'Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device', click Apply/Ok.
Check if the issue is resolved, if not, select HDMI Output on Sound Window, click Properties, click Enhancements tab, check the option 'Disable all sound effects', click Apply/Ok.

Satellite Pro U300: DVD issue - error: cannot output to external monitor

Hi,
I was having problems playing a dvd on my U300.
Basically the software would load but when I tried to play the dvd it said "cannot output to external monitor".
Having gone through all options I could not find anything to stop this happening. I then downloaded the latest software from the toshiba site.

I resintalled this but got the same error message.
I then uninstalled the software and tried to reinstall but now it just produces an error mesaage saying it cannot intsall the software on this computer.
How can I reinstall this?

I presume you have received the Toshiba Recovery CD. Am I right?
On this CD you can find the Toshiba image file. This image contains the Vista OS, Toshiba drivers, tools and additional software.
But note; you cannot install only a single program. To reinstall a application from the Recovery CD you have to format the HDD and have to reinstall the whole OS using the Recovery CD.
As Gipsyman said, the Toshiba driver page contains update and the original preinstalled software is needed.

Satellite M30, cannot play my DVDs

Bought meself a brandnew M30 with one of those cool DVD-writers and now half my original movie DVDs refuse to play. I have not experienced any problems with my other DVDs, not even with those I burnt on another computer. Anybody has an idea?

There's a difference between a data DVD, and a DVD-Video. I believe you made a data DVD, which can't be played in a video player. The Burn feature of the Finder can't author a DVD-V, just data discs.
I assume you made a Project, and put clips from your Event Library into the Project. But then, how did you output your Project, using the SHARE menu?
When I pull down iMovie '11s SHARE menu, "iDVD..." is one of the options. It's the job of iDVD to make the menu that appears when you insert a DVD into your player (that says the title, and chapters, and extras, etc.). You need software that will made a DVD-V disc. Lacking that, you might be able to go to Share/Export Movie... or Share/Export using QuickTime... to get your video into a format that software like Roxio's Toast could burn.

Output monitor not playing in realtime

A simple path is mac > firewire > camera or deck > rca cables > tv
Then start up your camera and tv, then open fcp.
Then go View > External video > all frames
Video playback should be Apple firewire NTSC (If you are using an NTSC set)
Audio playback should be Audio follows Video
Techinially, this should send synched video to your TV
If for some reason you can't view your timeline on your external monitor, there are a few things to try:
1) Make sure that the camera/deck is connected and powered on BEFORE you open FCP.
2) In the Final Cut Pro menu select AUDIO/VIDEO Preferences and make sure your signal is being sent out thru Firewire DV.
3) Go to the menu and select VIEW>EXTERNAL>ALL FRAMES.
4) Click in the % box above the image and select FIT TO WINDOW.
5) Go to VIEW->refresh A/V devices
6) Make sure the Log & Capture window is closed
If you want it to play in both the canvas and the external monitor you need to go to the FINAL CUT PRO menu and select AUDIO/VIDIO settings and make sure MIRROR ON DESKTOP is selected under the PLAYBACK OUTPUT section

Cannot Play Interactive DVD on MacBook

Am completely new to MAC, so please forgive me if this is a completely stupid question:
For some reason I cannot get my MacBook to play an interactive tutorial DVD. It plays all other DVD's I own without any problems, but for this one it gives "+supported disk not found+" message. I am sure nothing is wrong with the DVD, as it plays normally on my PC and my TV's DVD player. Spent the whole day trying to figure out what's wrong but still cannot.
Should I just download RealOne Player for MAC and try to play it there? Or is there any kind of codec I need to install?
Please help, as this is driving me nuts and I really need to be able to play this DVD on my MAC in front of my staff tomorrow!

Apple Support told me that most likely that DVD was formatted specifically for Windows, therefore it would not be played on MAC.

To share either select the link (paperclip) icon on the right of the file or folder list.
Cut and paste the link into an email you send your friends. Do not use the "share this" option in Dropbox as it forces them to join.
You can test it after deleting your browser cache and cookies - you will no longer be signed in to Dropbox but the link should work fine.

U405-S2830 Headphones Not Working

A week ago I made a clean install of my Vista Ultimate SP1. Everything went without any problems except my headphones no longer work nor is the option recognised in the devices. In the Sound Devices list it only lists SPEAKERRS and SPDIF INTERFACE and not Headphones like it usually has done. In the year and a half I owned the laptop I have never had this problem before. They always worked when I plugged them in and Vista automatically switched from Speakers to Headphones. The weird thing is not only do the buitlin speakers work but they turn of when I plug the earphones in and turn back on when I unplug them. So physically it seems like stuff is working.
What I have done is this to try and fix the problem. Update the audio drivers, uninstalled reinstalled, rollback the driver, clean install vista, clean install windows 7. I tried installing XP but always get blue screen when installing. (A new topic elsewhere) I installed the driver immediatly after a clean install. Another note in the past I have used those OS's and the Headphones worked. I have even checked the BIOS. I have tried US and European drivers. Old drivers and new drivers. I have tried restarting with the Headphones plugged in etc. Nothing works I can think of. Pretty frustrating.
I have a U405-S2830 Laptop. I reside in the US and utilize the US drivers. I am currently running Windows Vista SP1. The driver is a Conexant High Def audio driver. Any help is appreciated.

Try reset all settings
Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings
Note: Data will not be affected but settings for Wi-Fi, FaceTime, Message, Home Sharing, Wall Paper, Sound etc will be reset

Cannot output 5.1 audio on HDMI after installing Windows 7

Hi All,
I have Pavilion dv7 1270us, which came with Windows Vista x64. I've managed to watch DVD Movies and Blu ray discs through the HDMI-output, having multichannel audio as well (5.1)
I thought that it was time for a Windows upgrade. This week I've purchased a copy of Windows 7 Professional, formatted my harddrive and installed my new Windows. After that I browsed HP's driver page to download my missing drivers.
Everything looks good now, except the fact that I cannot output multichannel audio to my amplifier now.
Firstly, I thought that this could be a codec issue, but it isn't. This is what I've found in my Sound settings - Windows says that my HDMI supports only 2 channels:
Am I missing something? A driver maybe or a setting? I looked at all possible settings and I am almost sure that the problem isn't there.
Please help!
P.S. I forgot one more thing. When my laptop was running on Vista, it was "smarth enough" to automatically choose the HDMI sound output for default sound device when I connect my HDMI cable, and the opposite - select "speakers" on disconnect. Now it does not.

As stolen from someone on another forum, "Basic windows sound will always be 2 channel with HDMI. It is only when a DD/DTS/LPCM signal is bypassed to the receiver that you get 5.1 or greater." Basically, set your HDMI as your Default Device, restart the computer, and test to see what happens.
Assuming this does not solve your problem, looking up your driver page shows that your current set of drivers are out of date. You can go here to download the newest set available from HP:

Welcome to the Apple Community Tarskforce.
Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different versions of the same software. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment.

Go to the Project Library View and select your project.
Then FILE/DUPLICATE PROJECT and give the duplicate a name like "your name - part 1".
Then duplicate it again and give the duplicate a name like "your name - part 2"
Now you can open "part 1" as a project and delete everything that is in part 2.
Open "part 2" as a project and delete everything that is in part 1.

Inserted a png PIP into my clip, can see it fine, can see it playing with the clip as expected when moving the play head manually, but cannot get it to play with the clip for preview, pleas help!

I am sorry if my inquiry here seem dumb but I am a new iMovie user and cannot figure this out. I inserted a png image into my video clip in the project as PIP, I can see it and move it and can also see it playing with the main clip if I move the play head manually, I can also see the PIP part only playing along with the undelying main clip if I use the Play button in the preview window when the PIP section is selected, however, for the life of me I cannot get it to play with the main clip all together for previewing the entire video via the video play button. What happens is that the video plays normally and when the PIP section comes in, the video clip stop all motion during the duration of the PIP section and the PIP image itself is simply NOT showing. Am I missing something really stupid here? It seems as it the Picture On Picture is a separate clip that plays with the underlying main video clip if selected and played by itself but it is not part of the video clip and will not play with it. What am I missing here, can anyone please help?

The easiest way to get up and running is to convert your MP3s to MP4s (obviously there won't be a video track). The following link links to a file that was an MP3 that I converted to an MP4 using QT Player Pro. When you go to export the files, make sure you click on "Options" and then check the box for "Enable Streaming" in the Streaming tab. It should stream flawlessly using QT Player. rtsp://rhsstreamit.rih.org/testmp4/Scorpion.mp4
Make sure you place the media to be streamed in the proper folder. You should only get a "404" message if the physical file doesn't exist.

Create 1 or more External Instrument tracks as required.
You could send the MIDIFile to a track set to "All" MIDI channels, or if needed, you could split the file by channel and create indivisual tracks for each.
