Satellite U500 - No Synaptics options with Windows 7

Hello everyone,
After I did a clean install of Windows 7 Pro 32 bit on my Satellite U500, I no longer get any options in the Synaptics touchpad control panel.
All I get is an overview menu and the animated demo, but nothing else (no scroll zone control, no tap sensitivity control or accidental touch function, etc.)
I used to have a full slew of controls with the pre-installed Vista.
I uninstalled, downloaded and reinstalled the driver from the Synaptics website several times, to no avail. Is there a solution for this?
Thanks.

I should tell you guys that since then, I did a clean install of the 64-bit version of W7Pro (which I should've done since the beginning, since all the available drivers for my wife's U500 are 64-bit anyway), and - with possibly one exception (thread coming shortly) - *everything is working just fine.*
What I found is that the aforementioned horizontal scroll function seems to work with every application +except+ Firefox!
Which is fine, really, so I'm not too worried about it now.
Thanks for the help guys.

  • Satellite L450-171 - Dual boot with Windows 7 and Windows XP

    Hello all,
I bought a Satellite L450-171 with Windows 7 pre-install. For reasons of compatibility, I installed Windows xp on on another partitition of the computer.
But in the starting up, I do not see both operating systems. I see only Windows xp.
Please how could I make to have the option of run also the Windows 7?
    Thank you in advance.

    Hi
    > But in the starting up, I do not see both operating systems. I see only Windows xp.
This happened because the Win XP has overwritten the Win 7 boot manager.
The EasyBCD is great tool but you have to install this in Win 7.
But how to do this if you cannot boot into Win7???
Well, for this you will need an original Win 7 disk (not recovery disk).
You could boot up using Win 7 disk and this will repair the Win 7 boot manager.
Now you could boot into Win 7 and could install the EasyBCD.
Then start EasyBCD and insert the Win XP OS entry into Win 7 boot manager
After new restart the Win XP and Win 7 should appear in boot manger and you could switch between both OS.

  • Satellite U500-10N - Can I install Windows XP?

    Hello,
I have bought Satellite U500-10N and it has Vista but I want to install XP, is it possible?
My plan is to back up all my files, and then put installation CD of XP, delete all files of Vista and record fresh new copy of XP. And then install all nessesery drivers for my laptop to functional normal? Is it possible? :\ I
'm afraid if I install XP than some function on my laptop will not work.
I'm looking for help, plz if anyone know something i will be grateful

    Hi
Theoretically you can install Windows XP, why not? ;)
But I dont understand why you want to use such an old operating system. I mean the Satellite U500 is really fast enough for Vista and in few days Windows 7 is the present. You should be happy with your preinstalled Vista version that should run well.
The point is that Toshiba doesnt offer drivers for U500 and XP so you have to collect all drivers yourself on the Internet that takes a lot of time. Furthermore I think some special functions like the FN keys will not work because there you can only get a driver from Toshiba.
Its your choice what you do but I would wait for Windows 7 if you dont like Vista Satellite U500 should also support Windows 7.

  • Teaming options with Windows 2012 R2 Host for HV Guests

    Hi
We are configuring Windows 2012 R2 standard host servers for Win 2008 / Win 2012 Guest servers. We have 3 NICs and using one for host management and other two in windows teaming. We read many blogs and supported configurations, but still not clear about
the options with teaming.  Usually with teaming we select the default options such as Switch Independent Teaming mode, Dynamic Load Balancing mode with no standby adapter. Recently with this teaming configuration we faced issues with host servers on multiple
Windows 2012 R2 standard host servers (the guest hang multiple times) and when we removed one of the NICs from team it started working fine. With the switches we didn't find any issues nor with NICs. Is it because of the default team options? Should we go
with Hyper V port Load balancing mode?
Expect support from you guys. Thanks in advance

  • Satellite L505 - Does it come with Windows 7 64bit or 32bit disk?

I got a Satellite L505 computer with *preinstalled* Windows 7 64-bit version and a 32-bit product recovery disk. I have not created a backup of a 64-bit version and meantime reinstalled the system from the 32-bit recovery disk provided erasing my HD. I would however like to reinstall the 64-bit verision of Windows 7. I know that I can order a backup media from https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/ but it does not say wich version (64-bit or 32-bit) will be shipped to me.
If I check the model description on the Toshiba page it says that it is shipped with 64-bit version and includes 32-bit recovery disk. This descrition still leaves me with a question which backup media I would get from Toshiba. I have to be sure that I get the 64-bit WIndows 7 before I order one.
I would appreciate a confimation. Thanks!

    Hi buddy,
I think everything is ok and there is no open question. The description on the Toshiba website says everything: The notebook is shipped with 64bit Windows 7 version that means this version is preinstalled on your computer. Additional you get a 32bit version on a recovery disk and thats all!
So you didnt burn the 64bit recovery disk and that means you have to order a new one from Toshiba. I assume you will get both versions then 32bit and 64bit.

  • Satellite U500 - ALPS touchpad driver for WIndows 7 64bit

I have a U500-00X012 (Australian Model) which I have updated to Windows 7 64bit. The Toshiba Australia website says to use the Vista 64bit ALPS touchpad driver. I could not get any Vista driver to work with my U500.
The correct driver is available from the Toshiba Europe website http://support1.toshiba-tro.de/tedd-files2/0/tpdrv-20091112112139.zip
    The driver is v7.105.303.117
Hope this saves somebody the many hours I have wasted trying to get the touchpad to work.

    Hi TwoLags,
when I installed any of the three versions of 64 bit Vista drivers available on the Toshiba Australia Website, they all install fine without any errors. After rebooting the laptop Device Manager says the ALPS touchpad is installed and working correctly. The icon for the touchpad appears on the taskbar but the touchpad just does not work at all!!
The driver link that I posted installs just the same as the other drivers, but it actually works.
I have no idea why the Toshiba Australia website only links to drivers that don't work and the Toshiba Europe website links to later drivers that do work. I have asked Toshiba Australia Support this question.

  • Re: Satellite L650/0E8 - Clean install with Windows 7 64bit

    Hello.
I have recently purchased a [Toshiba L650/0E8 notebook|http://www.mytoshiba.com.au/products/notebooks/satellite/l650/psk1ja-0e8017] and accidentally installed the Windows 7 32-bit version.
I've backed up a "recovery image" of my computer into 4 DVD-R's using Toshiba Recovery Media Creator. I need to use Adobe Master Collection CS5, but this requires the 64-bit edition in order to use After Effects CS5 and Premiere Pro CS5. I've gathered by reading some articles on the net that I have to do a "clean install", but as I've always had a technician set up my computer and have never used a Toshiba laptop before, I am unaware as to how to back up all my files, programs, drivers, etc before I reinstall Windows 7 to a 64-bit version.
Is that what those recovery DVD's do? Is there anywhere I can download the required Toshiba software/drivers for the 64-bit version? I apologise if these questions sound really silly. I am honestly rather confused as to what to do.

    Hey,
First of all I must say its good that you created the Toshiba recovery disk as mentioned in user manual. :)
Some other users here forget it because they dont read their user manual.
Anyway, with this disk you can restore the preinstalled Windows version (Windows 7 64bit) with all drivers and tools. That means you dont need any additional drivers and tools from Toshiba, everything will be installed automatically. You get out of box settings back.
But if you use the Toshiba recovery disk it will wipe the whole HDD so you have to make a backup of all your important files that you still need after Windows installation.
Therefore I would recommend an external HDD. They provide a lot of disk space to backup all your data and with some models you get also backup software but you can also use the integrated Windows backup tool, its also nice and works well.
If you have more questions, please let us know! ;)

  • Webcam on Satellite A200 doesn't work with Windows Media Encoder

Hardware: TOSHIBA Satellite A200 (1GH) with integrated Chicony webcam.
    PROBLEM:
When i using webcam by Chicony software - it's working allright (video recorded normaly).
BUT: when i closing Chicony software, and starting Windows Media Encoder (preinstalled with Vista) - when i try to select webcam as input device - error is reported "device is not ready".
This error also repeated if I select for webcam Microsoft webcam driver instead of Chicony native driver.

    Hi
Download the newest Chicony driver and software from the Toshiba page and install it.
Dont forget to remove the old version.
Furthermore if you get the error message like webcam is use by another application or "device is not ready you should start the msconfig and should disable and enable the chicony webcam service and process.

  • Satellite 2770 - Display driver problems with Windows 2000

    Hello,
I've a Toshiba Satellite 2770 and installed Windows 2000 on it. If I'm not wrong the S2770 does have a S3 Savage IX/MV graphic card and I downloaded the Windows 2000 driver from the S3 website but it wont be recognized by the hardware detection.
Then I tried the Windows 95SE driver from the Toshiba website, but Windows 2000 wont acept it due it's not suitable for Windows 2000 as it seems.
What to do? Isnt there a Windows 2000 driver out there which works? I dont want to work in 640x480 and 16 colors forever!

    Hello
You are absolutely right. Your unit has S3 Savage IX8 graphic card but problem is that your unit is delivered with WinME operating system. That means that there is no support for other operating systems. All drivers are designed for each notebook model and OS separately. The only way to solve this problem is to install the driver given by graphic card producer. If this not works you have a big problem.
Sorry but I really dont know what you can do. Maybe you can try to install the driver designed for Sat 2750. There is the same graphic card but driver is designed for Win98SE.

  • Satellite Pro L850 1DR - Problems with Windows 7 Update KB2887069

I am having problems installing Update KB2887069.
It appears to install okay ... invites me to restart ... when I do it says it is configuring ... gets to 7% then starts the restart ... shows it is configuring again ... up to 7 or 9% ... then reports it is failing and restoring ... restarts again ... and that's it ... not installed and reference to Windows Update confirms it has failed.
All the other updates I had today installed okay once I realised KB2887069 was the problem and omitted it from the update.
I'm running Win 7 Prof Serv Pack 1 - 64-bit on a Toshiba Satellite Pro L850 1DR. I use Microsoft Security Essentials as my AV software.
For now I have had to hide the update ... but anyone any bright ideas how to overcome the problem. I have tried Microsoft's site but as yet there are no answers that have provided a solution for me.
    Thanks in anticipation!!

I am "replying to myself" on this one so if anyone else has experienced a similar problem they can see what I did to resolve the matter.
I contacted Microsoft and received excellent support ... although it took a long old time (over the course of 3 days) to resolve the problem, the staff at Microsoft knew their stuff and proceeded tenaciously to overcome every obstacle.
I did feel somewhat sorry for them that one little update should result in the need to offer so much commitment to just one customer ... I was also grateful the resolution was achieved over a time when I was not that busy!
Additional Info: I refer above to 3 days ... for those interested, the time was spent as follows:
Day 1: about an hour and a half covering all the basic checks including sfc /scannow etc after which the update would still not install. (I had done these but accepted Microsoft needed to have the opportunity to check the situation for themselves).
Day 2: a technician called me at a pre-agreed time and having done a few more checks decided to re-download Windows 7.1 (over 3 GB ... on my connection that took a long time) and re-install it (without affecting my data, thank goodness ... but again the process of installation took a long time). The technician left me to do all the updating (a further 3-400MB). Time commitment for me about 5 hours ... but I was able to work on other things while the download, install etc was on as long as I kept half an eye on the screen.
Day 3: the same technician called me back (just when he said he would) ... told him I had no problems with updates (incl KB2887069) but was getting a weird message in Outlook when following hyperlinks and also I could not install IE11 for some reason. Both problems were resolved and other tiny matters sorted over the course of one hour.
Summary: problem therefore took up to 7.5 hours of my time to overcome, approximately half of which I was able to turn my attention to other things on another machine. In my view an acceptable investment of time to have the peace of mind of knowing everything is working just as it should be. I was impressed with Microsoft's staff who were as reliable as they were friendly and patient.

  • Satellite U500 - Is it available with backlit keyboard?

    Hi,
I've tried to call someone from Toshiba in Poland but here's no person to ctc...
maybe someone here will know when U500 with backlit keyboard will be avail. on Polish market??
    Thanks in advance..

It is not easy to get such info. You know it is marketing decision which models will be offered on certain market.
What you can do is to check official Toshiba Poland page and check which models will be available in your country. I believe in the future Toshiba will offer more and more models and I can imagine U500 with keyboard back-light will be offered in the future.
Try to contact someone from Toshiba department in your country. If someone has info about that this must be the right address.

  • Satellite U200-124 - Unknown devices with Windows XP SP2

I downloaded Toshiba U200 drivers for Windows XP from this site, install Windows, install all drivers.
    Well.
But i have 2 unrecognized devices in device manager.
    1. NIC 1394. Device Code V1394\NIC1394\92423A3900
    2. PCI Device. Device Code PCI\VEN_104C&DEV_803C&SUSBSYS_00011179&REV_00\4&6B 16D5B&0&5BF0
Modem & FireWire are not working.
    What can I do?

As Ivan said the drivers are not installed correctly and therefore the unknown devices appear in the device manager.
The installation instruction shows the right installation order. This order is necessary and important to get all devices working!!!
Please visit the Toshiba European driver page, choose the right series and download and install the right and compatible drivers like mentioned in the txt. file

  • Can't print both sides (manually) with Windows 7 but can with XP

My OfficeJet 5510 has "Print Both Sides" as an option on the "Finishing" tab, when I use it from the desktop running XP, which it's connected to with USB. That option doesn't appear anywhere when I try to print from my laptop running Windows 7, over a wireless network. This issue seems to be mentioned in many posts, but never seems to be answered. Is 2-sided printing (manually reinserting the pages) an option with Windows 7, or just with XP?

Hi  - The difference is that with XP, you're using the HP print driver and with Win7, you're using the Microsoft driver, since it doesn't look like HP made a "Full-featured" driver for the OJ5510, since Win7 came out well after the OJ5510 released.  Unfortunately, it doesn't look like you'll be able to manually print on both sides of the page unless the software app you're printing from offers a feature.  If the app doesn't have an option specifically for manual duplexing, you might be able to specify printing only odd numbered pages, then re-loading those pages and printing the even numbered pages.  Not a great workaround, but at least an option.
    Hope that helps.

  • HP Simplepass not working with Windows 8.1

Hi everyone, I'm not sure if I'm in the right section, so please tell me if I'm not. First of all, here are my specs: System Model: HP ENVY TS 15 Notebook PCProcessor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4700MQ CPU @ 2.40GHz, 2401 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s)OS Name: Microsoft Windows 8.1Version: 6.3.9600 Build 9600 So, I bought this computer with Windows 8 and I originally had some problems with Simplepass but I got it to work. I actually only use it to login to my computer from the lock screen. Since I've updated to Windows 8.1, nothing is working anymore. I can't use the fingerprint reader to logon (but the biometric device is visible and working in Device Manager). So, I told myself that Simplepass probably reset it's database but here's what happens when I try to go in Simplepass. I can access Simplepass by using my Windows password (Master password). I now have access to the "Manage my websites" part of Simplepass. When I click on "Set up Windows Log On", it again asks me to put my Windows password. I then put my password in, but it says "The Windows logon password you entered does not match. Please try again." and I have the right password... I've tried repairing Simplepass, reinstalling it via HP Recovery Manager and nothing has worked so far. I know that upgrading from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 made me use a Microsoft account instead of a local account...maybe that messed up Simplepass? I don't really care what I use, I just want to be able to use my fingerprint reader. On top of that, the new option with Windows 8.1 that lets us sign in using a fingerprint dosen't even respond when I click on it... Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for your time! Jerome

Jerome, There are a number of things going on - at least as far as I can tell:Some computers have a compatible fingerprint sensor that can be run with the Native Windows 8.1 fingerprint logon mechanics.   For those machines, the built in fingerprint driver installed by the latest Windows Updates, seems to be enough. For those machines in a particular list of compatible sensor types, there is a download available that addresses Windows 7, 8, 8.1 fingerprint logon, that is, fingerprint logon for Windows but without any support for website login.  The keywords are "compatible sensor type" - the download only addresses certain computers that have a particular sensor hardware built in.  Usually this is not an issue for folks as most of us want more than "just windows" logon. For everyone else - one must depend on a third-party driver, like the Validity drivers that are normally supplied by HP.  The problem is that HP has not yet released all the drivers for the "everyone else" group for Windows 8.1 OS. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I do see that you found a driver for the Eagle Sensor for Windows 8.1 and dated 30-Oct-2013 >> good news! sp63418 Validity Eagle Sensor V 4.5.228.0 Win8.1 64bit [Operating Systems]W8.164=OEM[Devices]USB\VID_138A&PID_0050="Validity Eagle Sensor(WBF) (PID=0050)"----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Remember, this is guesswork on my part.  I have deepened my search and have yet to find another way to do this - I still think we do need the updated compatible driver for your computer. If you would like to try once again to force the Validity Sensor driver to work, you might try the following: Close all extra programs (email, Facebook, games, etc.) Remove the current Driver and DeleteWindows key + X > M (Opens Device Manager) > BIOMETRICS > Right-Click on your validity sensor driver >Properties > Uninstall > in the prompt to remove the current driver >> tick the box to allow the removal >Proceed with the uninstall process When the uninstall is complete, shut down the system to prevent the kernel from hibernating:                                                  Complete ShutdownWindows key > type anywhere on the Start Screen: command prompt >RIGHT-CLICK on the Command Prompt box that shows up on the left side of the screen >From the bottom ribbon, select "Run as Administrator"  > Opens the command line >If the User Account Control asks, click "Yes" to allow the command to proceed >In the Command Prompt window, type the following command: Shutdown /s /t 0             Reference: Shutdown Syntax
