Satellite U840-10U - keyboard replacement

Does somebody knows how to replace the keyboard to a satellite u840-u by myself? It looks to be just glued but don't know for sure. Also, my keyboard is not backlit, does it would be if replaced by one of the U series backlighted?

Hi
As far as I know some Satellite U840 models has been equipped with backlight keyboard.
But from my knowledge the backlight keyboard requires additional power connector (CN20).
I guess not all U840 motherboards would support such connector and therefore the backlight keyboard upgrade would not be possible.
Regarding the keyboard removal:
Yes I think the keyboard is pasted to top case by double adhesive. If you would disassemble the keyboard from the top case, the keyboard would deform and could not be used again.
In my opinion you should not try to remove anything. You would void the warranty and could damage other parts. I think such disassembling procedure should be done by authorized service engineer.

  • Satellite U840 - missing keyboard driver / Toshiba accessibility

    I have a Satellite U840-10M, Windows 7, 64bit
Earlier this week I had to boot in safemode due to some problems with McAfee. Since then, the drivers for the mousepad and the keyboard were messed up.
I have been able to find/download the drivers for the mousepad, so that works again as it should.
But i cannot find the driver for the keyboard. So at this time, the backlight doesn't work and the FN keys don't work.
In addition, Since then i can't use/access Toshiba Accessibility.
Please give the link to download Toshiba accessibility or the appropriate keyboard driver.
    Thanks!

Im really wondering why it doesnt works just after starting notebook in safe mode.
Anyway, try please to reinstall Toshiba value added package.
This package contains several tools and one of them is responsible for FN keys functionality.
Please try this and post some feedback.

  • Satellite Z830-10U does not power on

    Greetings;
I plugged my Satellite Z830-10U into power and left it powered on for half an hour and then I saw it like hibernated (screen off). Then it was left for 20 hrs from yesterday plugged into power outlet.. Now it has
its "DC-in" indicator flashing orange, power on indicator is green steadily, the eco indicator is also on and green. The screen is off and it is like the system shutdown.
The problem is that the power botton does not work and pressing it (either for a short or long time) has no
effect. I plug the AC adaptor into power while connected to the computer and I see the battery indicator goes
green and stays green until I unplug the AC adaptor from power outlet or disconnect the charger from
    computer.
How can I turn it on and get back my files?
    Thanks in advance.

    > How can I turn it on and get back my files?
Well, the files are on the HDD
So you can remove the HDD from the notebook and you can use an external USB to SATA controller /enclosure in order to connect the HDD to another computer.
This would be the easiest way to get the access to the files
The other story is the notebook power functionality
For me it looks like its hardware related issue and in such case the unit needs to be checked by service technician hopefully its not a motherboard because in such case the mobo needs to be replaced and this might be a costly affair
    Is warranty valid?

  • Trackpad click bar not working correctly after getting a keyboard replacement.

I just got my whole keyboard replaced two days ago due to a sticking "m" problem on my 2008 macbook pro.  They didn't replace my trackpad, but now, it seems that my trackpad clicker will only respond if I apply a lot of pressure to the middle of the upper edge of the bar.  If I click anywhere else on the bar, the bar is completely unresponsive.  It makes clicking and dragging nearly impossible. I once had this problem when I had a bulging battery, but the battery is fine now.  Could something have happened when they replaced the keyboard? It can't be coincidence...  Is there a home remedy?  I know they will want to replace it if I take it in, and my old maching has been off warranty for a while now.

Either a misalignment or a cable is not properly connected.
Since they just "fixed" the keyboard I'd say take it back as they most likely caused this problem.
If you want to do it yourself, iFixit could be particularly useful:

  • Satellite U840-10N - Windows Installation Can't See Any Drive

Hi all, this is my first post thus I hope I have choosen the right place to post in.
I've just bought a new Toshiba Satellite u840-10n ultrabook. It has built-in WIndows 7 Home Premium 320GB HHD + 32GB SSD.
Even if I prefer Linux, i need Windows because of Microsoft Visual Studio. I've downloaded Visual Studio(legally throught dreamspark.com) but it looks like it has some problems. In particular I cannot create any project.
After searching the web a lot for this problem, I've decided to try to reinstall Windows, hoping this will solve the issue, and here is the point.
Windows 7 installation process doesn't find any drive. I've looked throught the web a lot to solve even this problem, without figuring it out.
I've read that many other people had the same problem. I've tried different ways and I'm about to throw the laptop out of the window.
Is there anybody how can help me?
    Cheers,
    Marco Galassi

    Hi macogala
Could you solve the problem installing the SATA driver?
As far as I know the Windows 7 system contains already an SATA driver so usually an additional SATA driver should not be an essential part. But try it out.
I solve my HDD issue by formatting the HDD again.
I create an bootable USB flash memory stick using *Gparted* freeware tool.
This partitions tool helped me to format the HDD and to create new partition in order to install Win 7.
By the way: in BIOS you should disable the +secure boot+ and should change from +UEFI to CSM mode.+

  • Satellite U840-110 - Windows 7 doesn't start - looped boot

    Hi,
I have been using a Satellite U840 - 110 laptop since Dec 2012 on a Windows 7 Home Premium operating system. Recently, the laptop was left on standby for a couple of days. When I tried to start the computer, it initially froze. So I forced reboot by pressing the on/off button. After repeating this for a couple of times, it first showed a blue screen. After which when the computer was restarted, it showed a black screen with the following message
    'Windows Error Recovery
Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause.
    Launch Startup Repair or
    Start windows normally'
I have tried both these options a few times and everytime at the end of the process, it would come back to these same screen. I have also tried to press F8 and used Advanced Boot Options and tried 'last know good configuration'.
None of it seems to work and I have not been able to load Windows. I have not got any backup of my data and may end up losing a lot of vital information.
Is there anyway I can sort out the problem and get the computer to work again?
Is there any way to retrieve the data from the hard disk.
Thanks in advance for the help!

Is there any way to retrieve the data from the hard disk.
You can remove the HDD from the notebook and could connect it to another computer using USB-to-SATA caddy.
After that you could insert the HDD into the notebook again and could try to perform the Toshiba HDD recovery.

  • Satellite U840 - clean Windows 7 installation

My U840-113 had a hard drive failure, and I did not make any backups of the system image.
I've installed a new hard drive (no problems), but am going crazy trying to get Windows 7 to reinstall.
    Here is what has happened....
-Installed Windows 7 (service Pack 1) via external CD/DVD, accidentally installed 32 bit version. No problem, but as I began to wade through finding all the drivers from the Toshiba website, I noticed some 32 bit options were missing.
-Tried to install 64 bit version - Note, from my original Windows 7 release, so prior to service Pack 1)
-Initially got error messaging indicating that CD/DVD drivers were required to continue. Really?
-After researching, downloaded drivers to a CD to use as needed. Did not get this message again as I moved the CD/DVD to a different USB port (one which had previously given this message!)
-Got though the entire installation, and I get a "hardware not compatible" message. What?!?!?!
    -Tried again, same message.
-Removed the Raid on the SSD drive...no more Raids on anything!
    -Tried again, same message.
So I'm pretty sure this issue has to do with the Raid drivers.
What exactly is the "trick" to do a fresh install of Windows 7 64 bit on this machine!??!?!?!!?!
I'm going to see if I can get a 64 bit Service Pack 1 version (on USB!) to try for my next attempt.
I left this PC at work, so that I wouldn't stay up all night trying to get this to work.
    Thank you!

I have checked specification for your notebook and it was delivered with preinstalled Win7 64bit Home Premium so I recommend you to install Win7 64bit again. It is fully supported and all necessary drivers, tools and utilities you can find and download from Toshiba download page - http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp
Please note you need drivers for Satellite U840 PSU4SE.
There you can also download RAID driver that you must load before you start Win7 installation. I presume without this driver HDD will not be visible. Download it and save it on USB stick.
Generally speaking Win7 installation on this machine should not be some big deal. I have done it on U940 without any problem.
When external ODD is connected start notebook and press F12. Choose CD/DVD as first bootable device and confirm it with enter. I presume you use original Microsoft Win7 installation disc, right?
Disc should be read and installation should start. When you will see that disc drive is not recognized load SATA/RAID driver and continue with installation. Create partition C and choose it as place for OS installation. I cannot imagine you will have some problems with it. On my machine it worked perfectly.
When Win7 is fully installed you must start with drivers, tools and utilities installation. All stuf install as follow:
    Windows 7 Win7 SP1
    Intel Chipset SW Installation Utility
    Intel Management Engine Interface
    Intel Display Driver
    AMD Display Driver
    Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver
    Synaptics Touch Pad Driver
    Intel USB3.0 Driver
    IRSTCreator
    Alcor Micro Card Reader
    Intel Rapid Start Technology Software
    Conexant Audio Driver
    SRS Premium Sound
    LAN Driver
    Wireless LAN Driver
    Realtek Bluetooth Filter Driver Package
    Intel Wireless Display
    Bluetooth Monitor
Bluetooth Stack for Windows by Toshiba
    TOSHIBA Value Added Package
    TOSHIBA Web Camera Application
    PatchFiles PCIIDEREG-1.2
    PatchFiles TosVolRegulator_1.1
I hope everything will e OK.

  • W530 keyboard replacement?

    Hello!
I'm a first time thinkpad user. I received my W530 yesterday, and I am very happy with it. there is one thing with the keyboard though; I picked the wrong layout. Unfortunately I havent got enough money to buy a new backlit keyboard with the US layout (mine right now is NL, dutch). Is there any way I can get the keyboard replaced or send it back to lenovo for a replacement keyboard? This is a real bummer, and a stupid mistake. Typing right now is horrible. I searched across the board, and saw some posts about calling the IBM services and such.
    Any tips? Thanks!
(sorry for posting this in the wrong board, if so)
EDIT: If it matters, I can replace the keyboard myself if needed.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

As far as i know, the service department doesn't allow replacement of keyboard based on language preferences. i.e. changing from one language layout to another.
You would have to source the keyboard from elsewhere.

  • Windows XP on Satellite L300D-10U

    Hello all,
I have a question, how can I install windows xp on my Toshiba Satellite L300D-10U laptop?
Where can I get the drivers from?
Do I need an windows xp cd with drivers for the harddisk?
    Thanks

    Hi
According the Toshiba website your model (PSLC0E) isnt Windows XP supported but other L300D models. That means if you want to install XP, maybe the drivers from other L300D models will work on yours too but you must try this You can post your result here after that, this would be interesting :)
Generally you need a Windows XP disk from Microsoft to install it. After this check the Toshiba website and download the whole stuff of drivers and tools that you have to install step by step.

  • IBook G4 Keyboard Replacement

Does anyone know how much a replacement keyboard will cost for an iBook G4 (14 in)? Also, if someone knows of a site that sells them can I have the link?

    Hi there:
Several places (online - search) have iBook G4 14" or 12" - replacement
keyboards; one such place has both the item, their asking price and a
link to supposedly help remove and replace it, here:
"G4 iBook Keyboard Replacement - White Ice - New..."
    http://www.powerbookmedic.com/G4-iBook-Keyboard-Replacement---White-Ice---New-p- 16595.html
Companies who sell parts, and also provide repair services may also be
good places to inquire; one such could be wegenermedia.com and they
also have a toll-free number (during regular business hours) & real people.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Satellite A200-1P8 - keyboard failure

I have now a few month that some keys doesn't work.
Ok I don't matter than because that were subkeys, but now my m and d are getting troubles.
Reinstalling is not working, how can i or you fix this?

    > Reinstalling is not working, how can I or you fix this?
I think you can fix this only by keyboard replacement!
Get in contact with a local ASP and ask for keyboard check
Usually a keyboard replacement is not tricky but if you have no experience and if you are not notebook literate then you should ask an technician for assistance.

  • What case for a Satellite U840-10X ?

I have just bought a Satellite U840-10X and i can't find a case that would hold the laptop firmly without adding too much height.
