Satellite wont boot up

When I go to turn on the laptop it goes rough the Toshiba start up, the Windows graphic shows then it holds for several minutes. Then if flashes some long message very fast (not enough time to read it). Then after it rolls back to the Toshiba boot up and this sane scenario happens again.
I tried
- Pressing F8, Repair. The only thing that happens is the mouse arrow shows up nothing else happens.
- Safe mode - Nothing
- Advancing to the last knows good boot, repeats above scenario.
Any advice would be great.

I had possibly the same or similar situation recently and it was after a blue screen crash, not sure if yours was....
But after talking too Toshiba customer support the only advice he could give me was to install the recovery disk, but this meant i lost everything, as i had not backed up.
The recovery disk got me back up and running but still have other issues, thats why i`m on this site...
Not sure if this is of help to you....
What operating sytem are you running?

My new toshiba Satellite C50-A634 wont boot from usb, or dvd ,
i have downloaded win 8.1 and burn image to dvd but i still get an error message "no bootable device......please restart system" .
    Can some one plz help?

    Hi
Does Satellite C50-A634 supports internal CD/DVD drive or did you try to boot from external optical disk drive?
You have to know that _Satellite C50 & Satellite C50D models *without* a built-in ODD_ are not able to boot from an external ODD due to a technical limitation.
    Details here:
[Limitation of external boot media for Satellite, Satellite Pro C50 & C50D devices|http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB3B03JA0000R01.htm]
Only USB flash drives are supported as external boot devices!
It is necessary you can use a USB flash drive as recovery media on notebooks without a built-in ODD.

  • Satellite L300 wont boot up

Hi,  I have a Satellite L300 Laptop which since i dropped it ,  wont boot up i have tried the built in recovery but it stops with "Windows cannot recover Master file table".  It is running Vista , does any one know how i can reboot my laptop as at the moment it starts then i get a blank screen and nothing .
       Cheers  Doug

You more than likely damaged the hard drive when you dropped it.  See if it will boot to a CD or DVD.  If it does you need to test the hard drive to see if it is usable or not.
To test the hard drive determine what brand of hard drive you have.  You can check the Bios/Setup to find out.  Go to that manufacturer's support site and download their Self Booting Diagnostic CD ISO image, create the CD using the Burn From Image option (see http://iso.snoekonline.com/iso.htm for more information on doing this), then boot to it and run the most exhaustive tests available.  If you have a Toshiba drive you will need to use the Hitachi Drive Fitness Test as Toshiba doesn't supply their own. http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/support/download.htm
If you don't post your COMPLETE model number it's very difficult to assist you. Please try to post in complete sentences with punctuation, capitals, and correct spelling. Toshiba does NOT provide any direct support in these forums. All support is User to User in their spare time.

  • My Satellite C660-155 wont boot up

My Toshiba Satellite C660-155 laptop wont boot up. When i turn it on i get a blinking "-" in top left corner, then the screen goes black and nothing happens after this. It is over a year old which means it is past its warranty.
This has happened before, about 4 or 6 weeks ago, a friend fixed but it has now returned to the black screen.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

For better understanding you must offer more precise information.
Can you enter Advanced boot optionsusing F8 at start-up?
Is option Repair my computer listed there?
Can you start OS in safe mode?
    Have you created recovery disc?

  • After v1.90 BIOS update Satellite Pro A300-1EA wont boot up

I have just upgraded my laptop to the new BIOS as stated in the title but after doing it my computer now wont boot up at all. I just get a blue screen with it asking me to do a CHKDSK because there might be a virus or that the hard drive isn't connected properly (when it is), and it just keeps rebooting.
It wont start in safe mode either. Anyone else had the same problem and if so, how do I get my laptop back?? :(
    Thanks for any replies.

Please don't be mad on me but I think you really didn't read users manuals you got with your notebook. There is exactly described how you can have factory settings again.
So, now you are 100% sure that recovery image is not on the HDD but you don't know how to have factory settings again. Strange.
Remove battery, connect AC adapter only and disconnect all attached external devices.
Start your notebook and enter BIOS settings. Set it to default settings and try to start OS again.
    What happen exactly?

  • Satellite P100-240 wont boot up after failed BIOS update

Hi, let me just start by saying im an idiot....
Dowloaded a few drivers for my toshiba p100 240 and noticed there was a BIOS update, i downloaded it and ran the program only for it to come up with
an error that it will only allow the Administrator to run program. My laptop became slow and would not allow me to turn it off by any means. In the end i took out the
battery and restarted only to find a blank screen, no start up or anything on screen.
I fear i have totally killed my machine and its about 4 months out of warrenty, Im sure there is no cheap miricle cure for this but if anyone can give me my options here I would really appreciate it.
    Thanks for your time,
    Martin.

    Hi mate,
Thats a bit of a problem... If your machine really wont boot up and no screen comes up, then your BIOS was probably damaged.
I would really recommend you to contact an [authorized service partner|http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_whitepaper.jsp?service=EU&WHITEPAPER_ID=0 000000871] and tell them your problem. Maybe they can do something for. I mean, your machines hardware is ok, and its just some BIOS related thing.
Hope your machine will work again..

  • Satellite A105-S2001 wont boot after memory upgrade

I just tried to upgrade my memory from 512mb to 2 gb using 2 1gb memory chips from crucial. When i insert both memory chips at the same time my laptop wont boot, it'll attempt to but stop in the middle of the process and try again 5 or 6 times. Nothin shows up on the screen. The same thing happens when i put only one 1gb chip in. When i put my old 512mb chip in and one 1gb chip the computer boots but only recognizes 960mb or ram. i also updated my bios.
    thanks

Sounds like incompatible memory.  Fortunately, Crucial is very good about honoring their compatibility guarantee so you should be able to get them exchanged.  You can get very strange results with incompatible chips due to the differences in timing specs.  That would account for what you're seeing.  I assume it works normally if you have just the original 512MB chip in place.

  • Satellite A300 wont boot up

    Hi guys
Im overseas atm, so I really want to try and resolve this problem by myself.
Ok I was watching a movie yesterday and as it ended the laptop locked up, it wouldnt let me ctr, alt, del nothing....
So I waited a few mins and tried again to ctr, alt, del again still frozen. SO I hit the power button for a few seconds and shut it down that way. When it rebooted I chose safe mode but when I was prompted for my password the keyboard wouldnt work so I couldnt type it in.
I had to use my external mouse and shut it down from the power option.
The next time it rebooted i chose normal mode but it has been sitting on the vista screen just before the password box pops up for hours.
Is there anything i can do guys???
    Thanx John

    Hi Akuma,
I tried what you said but to no avail.
After it restarted it got stuck on the Vista screen again, after about 20 mins I gave up.
I tried safe boot, restoring to previously saved point.
Nothing works it just wont boot up, one minute is was working fine the next its dead.
Toshiba said to do a system restore or something like that which basically takes it back to when it was brand new, so I loose everything.....

  • Satellite A200 wont boot up

My Satellite wont start up at all. No Bios. When I turn it on there is some activity from the harddrive, two beeping sounds, then nothing happens. It has worked fine up until now, no overheating issues that I know of. Sorry if it isn't enough information, I'm not sure what factors could have caused it.

    Hi
My first idea was to remove the battery and to disconnect the AC adaptor and to wait for about 30min.
But it seems you have already tested it. Is it right?
Hmm. This is really a difficult situation if the workaround described above will not help or didnt help then I dont see any other way as to contact the Toshiba ASP and to check the notebook.
I mean this issue could be caused by any of the parts on the motherboard.
So we can talk about what this issue could be but only the notebook check could provide an 100% answer.

  • Satellite 1410-401 wont boot up

    Hi All,
A friend of mine has asked me if I can sort out her laptop, it wont boot up, when I click the on button the Toshiba screen comes on but keeps coming off and on every 2 seconds !
I can then get to a screen if i press the esc button that is black and says 'Check System.
Then Press F1 key, this stays like that until I press the F1 key, if I press the F1 key I get the System set up page up but when it says do you want to exit and I press yes it just goes back to the flashing start up screen !
Any ideas what the problem might be, it is an oldish laptop a Toshiba S1410-401.
I have tried booting up in Safe Mode but still no joy !
It has XP Home Edition installed with no disk to re install it, I have XP Media Center edition with a bootup disk installed on my home PC, The laptop has a license code could my rescue disk be installed on the laptop and use there License key to activate it or is this not possible ?
Maybe its not a Software issue at all ,any help would be appreciated !
    Many Thanks,
    Nick C

    Hi
I can confirm the information posted by naccioman.
The serial key which you can find at the bottom of the unit will not work with any Microsoft disks. The serial key belongs to the Windows OS which was preinstalled on this notebook and its an OEM license.
So you only chance is to reinstall the OS from the original Microsoft disk.
Firstly you have to check if the notebook will boot from a Windows CD.
If it will not boot up and the installation would not begin then an hardware problem might be the reason why the notebook doesnt work properly.
In such case I recommend testing the RAM and HDD.
The is most cases the faulty or not compatible RAM causes such issues.

  • Satellite A30 wont boot up and is stuck on "exiting PXE ROM"

A30 wont boot up and is stuck on a loop
PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
    PXE-M0F: Exiting PXE ROM.
I dont have recovery discs and bios does not allow to turn off any relevant settings.

The error message PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable appears because the notebook tries to boot from the LAN.
There could be a different reason why the notebook doesnt boot from the HDD or from another source.
Firstly the wrong booting order could prevent the notebook from HDD booting.
Secondly the missing HDD or an HDD malfunction could cause this issue.
You should definitely try to access the BIOS pressing the F2 button immediately after notebook starting. There you should check if the HDD was recognized.
If not, then I recommend replacing the HDD and to reinstall the OS.
    Best regards

  • Satellite A135-S2386 wont boot, no display at all, shows very little signs of life.

I received a customers computer today.  It worked, but they had a problem with the BIOS password, so they asked us to reset it.  The battery was pulled and it was left unplugged for a few hours to be worked on later.  Now when the laptop is powered on, it wont boot at all...  Here is what happens:
Press the power button, and the LED above it turns yellow (I used to own this same model, and I could have sworn my light was blue and not yellow. Can anyone confirm?)
The fan spins up for a few seconds and then stops.
The power indicator on the front of the laptop is green.
When turned on the HD light flashed once quickly, and then never lights up again.
The CD-ROM light is constantly orange, and the tray will not open.  There is no media inside.
There is absolutely no display (not even a flicker) and external monitors don't work either.
No beep codes, even without the RAM and HD.
    I have tried:
    Removing RAM and harddrive
Resetting CMOS (this was the goal to begin with)
Leaving it unplugged and with no battery while holding the power for one minute, then plugging in.
    Booting from USB.
At first I thought it was a problem with the GPU, but I don't even think it is getting a chance to display anything.  Is the MOBO fried?  I find it strange that all of the sudden it breaks when I get my hands on it (makes me look bad too) but I know these things are notorious for things like this.  I also find it strange that the CD-ROM is constantly lit and wont open.  I am thinking of trying to boot without it connected to see what happens.  Any other suggestions?

Have you solved your problem? How?
    I have the same problem.

M y Sateite A305 s6916 wont boot after windows updates tried to install.

tried .. every option on F8
Try this. Download a repair disc from here.
Windows Vista Recovery Environment ISO X64 version (64 bit)
If you can reach the Recovery Environment by booting that, try the Startup Repair and let us know what happens. Sometimes you need to run it more than once.

    Also try a System Restore.

  • L555D-S7930 Wont boot

    Hello!
I have a Satellite L555D-S7930 that wont boot...  when I plug in the power cable, the "plugged in" light comes on, when I press the power button, the power light comes on, the fan runs for a few seconds and then stops but nothing else happens.
I am an HP tech by trade, but I am a little more stumped on this one than the stuff that usually goes wrong with an HP...  Is there a cmos battery I can disconnect in hopes that may clear things?  or a BIOS reset jumper?
I have seated and unseated RAM, swapped out the RAM one at a time, have the battery out, have the HDD out, have the optical drive out...  still no change...
Currently only the power button board and the keyboard in addition to PJP1 (power) are plugged in...  I have not taken the mainboard all the way out of the chassis yet, though...
Any advice or guidance would be appreciated!
    Thanks!

    Hi JALinker,
I'm not a service technician, so I don't know about a reset jumper. However, have you tried this? Turn off the laptop, unplug all wires, remove the battery, and hold the power button for thirty seconds. Afterwards, reattach the battery and connections. I don't know if that's a common fix for this type of issue with other laptop brands, but I've definitely seen it fix Toshibas with the same symptoms.

  • 24" iMac - Wont boot from HD or disc... Help!

    Hi guys,
Just been working on iMac, forget the exact spec but it's a 24" Intel 2.something Core 2 Duo or whatever it is, 4gb DDR2 RAM, gotta be about 2 years old to the day and after my last 2 Macs have lasted forever, never developing a fault, I didn't take out Applecare... Perhaps I had a bit too much faith...
As I say, just working away and all of a sudden, upon putting a video in Quicktime to full screen, the whole image has kinda of condensed itself into the top 20% of the screen and started slightly flickering the image. I've tried quitting some of the programmes, but neither the mouse nor leyboard have been responding so I've just had to turn the computer off.
I've gone to turn it back on, and after about 30 seconds, it's got as far as the grey screen but then the little spinning progress indicator pauses and it does nothing else.
I've reset the PRAM and that made it take longer before it froze but ultimately did nothing.
I've now tried getting it to boot from the Snow Leopard disc but this does the something, until after about 3 - 5 minutes, the screen goes all pshychedlic, like looking at an old school TV really close...
So looking for any suggestions on other things to try before I have to take to my local store... Any hazard a guess at what may be up with it?
I've got a back up the whole computer but I don't think this is a software problem, I'm assuming it's going to be a hardware one?
Any help at all would be much appreciated!

Ok, tried Safe Mode and that wont boot either. Saw a little progress bar on the grey screen though which made a change, but ultimately, it crashed once that had disappeared.
I've just noticed that at the point when the progress wheel stops spinning, a pattern of dead pixels appears across the screen that aren't there when the progress wheel is spinning.
The more I talk to people about this, the more graphics card seems to come back as the likely culprit, based on the fact that:
    - it started by me putting a video to full screen
    - the fact the display went weird when it first happened and also it plays up after it crashes with the psychedelic colours
    - it wont boot from HD, disc or now in safe mode either, however it does run AHT fine.
    - I've hoovered out the vents on the iMac and somehow it seems slower than it was before (bit odd)
    - the dead pixel thing mentioned above
So now thinking it may be time to get a new graphics card?
Reckon this is likely, even though the AHT hasn't picked up any problems? As mentioned earlier, I'm not too concerned about it would seem it doesn't particularly test the graphics card too much, so all just seems to point towards it.
Anything else that I could do to single this out as the likely culprit?
Guess this is a chance to upgrade!
