Satellite X200-20S don't go into hibernation mode when battery is a 2%

Hi All,
I have just received my brand new and very shiney X200 and gone through the normal procedures of changing the power management settings in VISTA, but I cannot get it to enter the hibernation state automatically. I have configured it such that on a critical battery alarm (at 2%) the laptop should automatically enter Hibernation state saving my data and shutting down.
Unfortunately this doesn't happen and it just dies after the battery level has dropped below the 2% limit. On re- booting (with power) VITSA tells me it wasn't shut down properly. You Don't Say! :-)
I have configured Laptops before using XP and have not had any problems. I know VISTA does have many more options to configure and wonder if I am missing something. I have checked the VISTA help files and I seem to be doing the right thing.
I really would prefer to use hibernation rather than sleep, but just can't get it to do it on a critical battery level.
Does anybody have any ideas or suggestions?
Thanks in advance

Hi Guys,
Thanks for your answers. I think you may have something on the level of the critical alarm. I have lifted it to from 2% to 5% and now the screen goes black, (where as in XP you had a message telling you the system was about to enter hibernation) the disk activity increased and it switched off.
I then connected power on turned it on to be welcomed with the system resume confirmation where as before I didn't get the resume screen.
*So it look like its fixed*, its just thats Vista is a little more clunky and it doesn't appear to actually tell you that it is entering hibernation, the screen just goes black instead! :-)
If everyone else has the same experiance then I guess i can mark this one as fixed.
Let me know what your feedback and understanding on how Vista hibernation should work.

  • Macbook Air (11 inch) does NOT go in hibernation mode when battery runs out

    Hi,
I have a problem with my new Macbook Air. When the battery runs out to 0% it does NOT go into hibernation mode, it just turns itself off and all my data is lost. It never happened to my old 2008 Macbook Air!
I have all updates, the 1.4Ghz Macbook with 4GB RAM upgrade in case that matters. Hope anyone can help? Is there perhaps a setting where I can set at which Percentage (%) the Macbook should go into hibernation? Thanks in advance!

Noone knows a solution? I also still have problems with my Macbook not waking up properly (like everyone else). The main problem is, however, that it SHUTS down when the battery is empty and does not hibernate!
And I can't install the MacBook Air Late 2010 Software Update 2.0 - I always get this message: "MacBook Air (Late 2010) Software Update can’t be installed on this disc. This volume does not meet the requirements for this update."
    - The update also does not show up in Software Update, I had to download it manually!
And I believe its NOT because I have 10.6.6 because I have talked to others who have the same problem under 10.6.5!

  • HT201401 My phone won't lock or go into sleep mode when answering calls

My phone won't lock or go into sleep mode when making or receiving calls. Consequently I keep activating the mute or loud speaker buttons with my cheek. Can anyone help please??

That is a Proximity Sensor Problem, which is located above the earpiece speaker. Do you have a new screen protector or iPhone Case which could interfer with this?
    Reset iPhone, Restore iPhone.
If you have Warranty or AppleCare Coverage make Genius Reservation and take iPhone to Apple for resolution.

  • I am running OSX Lion 10.7.4 and the computer no longer will go into sleep mode when I close the cover What happened with this option?

I am running OSX Lion 10.78.4 and the computer will no longer go into sleep mode when I close the cover. In system preferences I can no longer find the option that allows for this energy saving feature. What happened to this option and why is this no longer happening with the latest version of Lion?

No external monitors or devices attached. When you mention that this function only works when devices are attached that is true when you set up your preferences that way. Up until my upgrade to Lion the computer would always go into sleep mode when I closed the lid. There also used to be an option to check in system preferences that allowed you to choose this option. My question for the discussion is what happened to that option and how do you get the computer to sleep or at least the display to sleep when you close the lid as we have been able to do in the past. Thanks.

  • IPhone 5 going into recovery mode when trying to update iOS 7

My 5 went into recovery mode when trying to update to 7.0.2 OTA. At first I was like ok just a glitch. Well trying to update to 7.0.3, it did it again. So right now I am again in the process of restoring and updating my 5.
    What is going on?

because I'm an idiot.. of course.. All my other over the air updates have worked, I had a good wifi connection, knew I had a backup, and was desperate to get past the initial bugs I've been experiencing..
I downloaded iTunes on my work PC, enough to get it going again, which I bascially had to do twice.. iTunes didn't find a backup and said that iCloud didn't have a backup, even though it did.. So, it did a basic install of iOS 7..  I then erased all settings from the iPhone itself and when it restarted I chose to restore from iCloud which the phone was able to find..
Have not seen anything better.. I've had a couple random reboots. Once when swiping the Starbucks notification on the lock screen, the phone immediately crashed back to the apple boot screen.

  • How do I get My IPHone 5c to go into sleep mode when not using

How do I set my IPhone 5c to go into sleep mode when not using

Are you saying the screen never turns off?  That is controlled with auto lock in general settings.
IF your screen turns off, your phone is going to reduced power state, but still looking for events. This is standby, and you see published standby times for the different iPhones.
There is no other setting between this and turning off.  So slightly different than a PC.

  • IPad doesn't go into sleep mode when guided access is enabled

My iPad doesn't go into sleep mode when guided access is enabled despite having set "enable sleep mode" to on in the settings menu.  COnsequently, my battery life drains very quickly during the day as the screen doesn't dim or go into sleep mode at all.  Help!

Seems this feature is lost with iOS 7.0.4.  I just bought 4 iPod Touches for employee use and NEED to have sleep mode enabled for guided access to conserve battery life.
I did have 1 iPod that allowed me to enable sleep mode (and I tested that it allowed the top button to be pressed to immediately go to sleep), then after it ran the 7.0.4 upgrade it no longer allowed sleep mode when in guided access (I did not check the original version of iOS on the iPod but it was obviously older than 7.0.4).
Is there some new hidden way to turn this on or did Apple delete the option?

  • Satellite X200-20S runs slower with new motherboard

I wonder if anybody can help - under warranty I have just had a replacement motherboard. (Before the replacement the computer switched off within ten seconds of startup). Since replacement the computer is runnning at about 90% of the speed than while it was working pre-replacement. I have spoken with the Toshiba support who claim that without "hard facts" about the speed there is nothing they can do (ie. they won't book it back in). In some ways this is fair, however it simply is not as good as before and various tests I have done (which they claim to be subjective) consistently show that the computer is slower.
Toshiba support really like the Windows Experience Index (WEI) which I currently have as 4.8 - I think this is the same as before the replacement - but I have read that even this isn't that reliable. Can anybody with a X200-20S please tell me their WEI score, and a 3DMark'06 score?
After the motherboard was replaced I also got a new drive (BD-ROM) on E: Of course X200-20S models don't have Blu-Ray so this does show that the motherboard is different to the original, albeit the part number apparently being the same (according to Toshiba support).
I would like to know if anybody else has had a similar problem, and whether they managed to find a resolution. I am aware that the warranty expires in November and therefore must get things done quickly if anything can be done.
If you can help, please let me know.
    Many thanks!

    Hi Tonny,
Thanks for your suggestion. In all the time I've had the computer I've never bothered changing power management options, so am treating like for like. Since you mentioned it I've just had a look to see what the cpu option is, and it's 100% for the maximum output. However it is running more slowly as mentioned in the previous post.
I am convinced beyond doubt that the motherboard (which is the only thing to be replaced) is the cause of the problem. I have reset the computer to factory settings, installed the latest drivers; everything I can possibly do - and every test (including my memory of how games ran before) proves beyond doubt that the machine is running more slowly.
I simply am at a loss as to how to get the machine back to the previous speed. I can only think it isn't possible because the new motherboard replacements don't work as efficiently as the originals - although with the advance in technology over two and a half years that doesn't seem quite right. I can't get Toshiba support to take this problem seriously, because nothing is "broken". I wonder if it's some jumpers, or settings on the board which weren't done correctly when it was replaced.
    Thanks again.
