Satellite x205-s7483 Screen locks after a few hours
Hello all i'm having a problem with my satellite x205-s7483 I've had it about 2 yrs now and lately the seen locks up and I can't move the pointer with the mouse and all the keys are unresponsive. I have to hold the power button till the laptop shuts off then boot it up again. It then works fine but when I leav it alone for a few hours it locks up again. Any ideas whats wrong? Is the memory failing? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Let's try to learn more.
Note the computer-clock time when lock-up occurs.
Open Event Viewer (eventvwr.msc) and expand Windows Logs.
Inspect the Application and System logs for a (preferably Error) event at that exact time.
Don't try to copy anything manually. Double-click the entry and click the Copy button to put the details on your clipboard.
Paste that without editing into your reply - except include only the part above the line Event Xml:.

Laptop fails to boot, never shows even a glimmer on the screen (so I can't determine the BIOS type or version). Sometimes -- but not always -- it makes three beeps at POST, one long and two short. Unable to boot Z10, stuck on loading screen at 99% after a few hours.
Hi, I am unable to boot Z10, stuck on loading screen at 99% after a few hours. I did not try to update, nor load any other OS versions. Running a Bell Canada 10.1. Tried to pull battery, leave phone boot for 5 hours, still stuck on 99%. I tried plugging it in BB Link and computer will not recognize it.

Screen goes black, shut the lid for a few minutes, open the lid the turn on chime comes on and the screen comes back to life. The computer itself has continued to update just no screen. After a few minutes goes black again. Is logic board going bad or graphic card issue? Trying to decide if computer is worth repairing as it was made in 2007.
It does sound like you might have a faulty video connection. See if you can make a Genius Bar appointment at your local Apple Store.

After a few hours of inactivity, I return to find a white screen with a file folder in the center of the screen with a ? mark in the centre of said folder and both are flashing...am i compromised?

My mackbook pro suddenly freezed and when I swiched off and on again, a grey screen appeared with an apple logo then a loading circle underneath, and after a few hours, a blue screen appeared. What shall I do with this?
What operating system version, and do you have any backups of your data off the machine? TimeMachine? Option Key bootable clones? Storage? DVD's?
A reinstall of the operating system may be in order as a last resort, so if any of these steps on these links get you into the machine, make sure to backup your personal data (Music, Pictures, Documents, Movies) off the machine to a non-encrypted powered external drive regular storage drive (not TimeMachine as it might be corrupted too) and disconnect as soon as possible.
Good Luck and report back all what you tried.
Also report what change occured before this tragedy happened, was there a Software Update? A EFI firmware update? Etc.

To boot off the 10.6 install disk, hold c or option key while the disk is in the machine.
To boot into 10.7 Recvoery mode, hold the command and r keys down while booting.
To use Safe mode, hold down the Shift Key while booting.

Hi everyone!
So I've had this problem from my macbook since months ago. It sometimes just shuts off by itself, the screen turning black and won't turn on until like after a few hours (sometimes a day, but sometimes you could also immediately open it just like that.)
When it shuts off and you plug the adapter it is still charging, the lights on the side of the macbook book still lights up just fine if you press the button on the side. the only problem is that it wont open until after a few minutes, hours or days (very unpredictable) (also tapping the macbook helps, I dont know if it "really" helps or not, but it works sometimes.) But when it open it will be working fine until another couple of weeks or 3 or a month (again unpredictable)
I dont know what's wrong with my laptop, please help me. It would be greatly appreciated! thank you so much in advance!Hold the power button down for 10+ seconds. Then bring the MBP to an Apple store for an evaluation.

My screen freezes after a few seconds on my iphone 5c and the display fades slightly so you can see faint lines in the background. I'm not sure whether this is easily fixable or a major problem. Have reset the device, but this has worked. Any ideas?

I would like to enable a screen lock after resuming from suspend. i am using the latest xorg thats in the repos, openbox, and slim.

that application worked like i assume its supposed to. if that displayed a blank screen instead of showing the desktop then i would be a lot happier with it.
Haha, yeah, we just gotta find some app that takes full screen and run it before xtrlock.
there is xlockmore in community. that seems to do the job. it displays a screensaver when resuming though. if there was a way to configure it to just be blank that would be cool.
Edit: or just a picture of a login promt so the person wouldnt just shut down the machine thinking something is wrong with it.

I read your post on the HP Support Forums and I understand that you are having an issue with the Touchscreen on your HP Notebook - 15-ac020nr. You had mentioned that since your Windows 10 Upgrade, it no longer works. Have you tried doing all updates (Windows, HP Support Assistant, BIOS)?Have you tried restarting the Notebook a couple of times?Have you tried to run the Windows Troubleshooter? Here is a link to the HP Support Assistant. Just download and run the application and it will help with the software and drivers on your system that need updating for Windows 10. The HP Support Assistant will also help find a proper driver for you to use. Updated Windows 10 drivers will become available on the HP Drivers and Downloads Page for your product. They will be released as they become available to HP. I did find a troubleshooting document for you called Touch Screen Issues. Screen Dims after a few minutes
My screen dims after a few minutes.It is annoying when trying to watch a news segment or DVD.I have went to the energy section and can't find anything to do with Dimming unless I am looking in the wrong section.The only thing I can find are settings adjustments for screen saver and such.
This is my fisrt Mac and I have had it for only 4 days.Yikes!!
I have only seen a couple people post on this subject.I take it that maybe there is no real solution except to take it to Apple.

I don't mind the dimming (except in extended viewing situations), but is the apparent battery-saving effect of the dimming preferable to the presumable wear-&-tear on the screen of the frequent brightness changes that result from having 'automatic dimming' active?
Also, is there a way to put this under real-time control so that you can switch b&f between having/not having automatic dimming without having to keep opening System Prefs. each time?

A few thoughts and experiences after a few hours using my new ThinkPad E440 with Win 8.1
After waiting 36 days for my new ThinkPad to arrive, I guess I'm just "eh" about it after using it some. Here are some of my thoughts, opinions, and experiences I've had after using it for a few hours... Hope this helps other people.
I should not be surprised because I read all the reviews, but the touch pad really sucks. I hate everything about it, the way it clicks - it's so loud and clunky! - and it's insensitivity (and I adjusted this to be more sensitive). Thank goodness for the track point. I love that thing.
The touchscreen stopped working after a few hours of use. After I rebooted it came back. Is this a bad omen? Or did I inadvertantly turn it off? Is that even possible? I am new to Windows 8 so anything is possible.
The touch screen, when it's working, is not very responsive. It's MUCH LESS responsive than my Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Android phone or my LG G Pad 8.3 tablet. This is very disappointing.
I ran the hardware scan that is in the Lenovo Solution Center and got a warning under the category "Local Connection Test". I looked at the list of System Events and it's very long. The first application error event name is MpTelemetry. Response is "Not available". The next one is "PnPRequestAdditionalSoftware". Response is "Not available". And the list goes on and on and on for pages. I have no idea what to do about this or what it means.
Also in the Lenovo Solution Center, under Software, there is a Critical Alert that says I never updated Windows. But I did when it prompted me to while it was first booting up and it was updating and installing things. Where it says "To update your operating system, you must run Windows Update", I click on the Launch button and it takes me to Windows Update where it says No Updates are Available. Go figure. It also says there have been 9 Windows updates made to the computer. I guess I'll have to just always ignore that Critical Alert.
In the system tray, it says "ThinkPad OneLink Dock Detached!". I don't have a dock... So, yes, that's true, it is detached. I'll have to hide that one.
I realize there is a Lenovo Recovery Partition on the hard drive but I would really like to create a set of recovery disks before I start customizing this thing, installing apps, and moving my files over. I can't find anything that tells me how to do it. Under the control panel, there is the Recovery icon. The only choice there for creating recovery media is to create a Recovery Drive, not disks. I'll post a separate item to get information on this.
On the positive side, I have had it in my lap the whole time and it's not gotten too hot for my legs. That's a big improvement on my old Toshiba Satellite Pro.
This locating the Fn key to the left of the CTRL key decision must have been made by someone smoking crack. Why would anyone in their right mind want to do this? We've had the CTRL key on the outer left edge like, FOREVER, why move it now?? This will be something that will take me a long time to adjust to - if I ever do. I use the CTRL a lot for cutting, pasting, and formatting things in Excel and Word. It's going to be a battle. I wonder if any software exists that allows you to redefine the keys? Speaking of location of keys, I keep hitting the Page Down key when I want the Page Up key. I'm used to the Page Up key being above the Page Down key instead of to the left.
After being told here in the forum that the fingerprint reader was not an option in the US I am pleasantly surprised to see one on my new ThinkPad.
I use the right-click on my mouse often. For example, to open a link in a new tab instead of switching to the new URL. For some reason, when I click on the right part of the touch pad when the mouse is located over a link, it just opens the new URL instead of giving me options for opening the URL. I'll have to figure this out.
So anyway, I guess that's more than a few things... hope this is useful to someone...You can change FN and CTRL key in the BIOS

A few possibilities... (Each numbered item is a separate thing to check or try.)
(1) What does the shuffle's light do when you connect it to USB?
(2) If the docking cable plug is not fully inserted, it may not have a good connection for charging. Make sure the docking cable plug is fully inserted into the shuffle's headphones jack, as shown in this document
iPod shuffle (4th generation): Not seen in iTunes
(3) If there are other USB devices connected to your computer at the same time, try disconnecting other devices (including USB hub) so that the shuffle is the only device connected to a direct USB port, to see if that makes a difference (you can leave standard USB keyboard/mouse connected if used).
(4) If you have a USB power adapter (such as from an iPhone, iPad, or other device), that plugs into the wall outlet, as a test, connect the shuffle's docking cable to the adapter and connect the shuffle. Does it change from a power adapter?
(5) Some newer Windows PCs (if you use Windows and not a Mac) may have a "feature" that shuts off full power to the USB port when a connected storage device is no longer mounted by the system. An iPod is a storage device, and after syncing, iTunes unmounts the iPod's disk (if you are using automatic syncing). If Windows shuts off full power to the USB port, the battery cannot charge. To see if this is the problem, does the iPod appear in iTunes when it is connected, even though the battery is not charging? If it does, select the iPod in iTunes so that you see its Summary screen. There is an option (checkbox) there for Enable disk use. If it's not already checked, check that box and Apply. Enabling disk use keeps the iPod's disk mounted continuously, so Windows will keep the USB port at full power (and the battery will charge). If the iPod now charges, there may be a way to disable this "energy saver" feature in Control Panels, so that you can turn OFF Enable disk use. NOTE: When Enable disk use is turned ON, you need to Eject the iPod in iTunes before physically disconnecting it. -
Why does it freeze after a few hours? Particularly YT videos won't show.
If I leave my computer on for a couple of hours and then try using it, many functions freeze like the ability to copy/paste and Youtube videos don't show, it's just a blank screen. This has been going on for a long time and it gets very frustrating having to be restarting my computer every time this issue comes up. Another serious issue is when I want to go directly to any site ex. cpl retail, and instead of taking me there it takes me to a search page. I have to be using other internet options b/c this issues are really getting tiresome to deal with.
It seems like your computer may be hanging on a process or perhaps even a long running script on the page you're on. If you will, please let me know how much RAM you have available when you start your computer, then how much you have after a few hours. This may be completely irrelevant, but it's worth a shot. :)

Dv5t-1000 CTO Sound sputters and OS slows down after a few hours
I am running Vista 32bit SP1 on a DV5T-1000 CTO machine, 4gb ram 2.0ghz c2d
I've noticed that after a few hours of use, usually after I leave the machine on alone and coming back to it, the sound completely degrades and the OS response completely slows down to a crawl. It is especially prominent if I go to something like youtube and watch a video. the whole thing sputters and stutters and sounds horrible and the os slows to a crawl.
however, if I pause the video, until it's fully loaded, THEN play it, all is well, and my OS goes back to full speed...
but the longer I leave my PC on the WORSE it gets. if I leave it overnight, and come back in the morning, the result is horrible. I have an audio alert to notify me if I have email. normally it just does a quick 'beeep-booop, taking about a quarter of a second' as it flashes the message in the corner. If i leave the machine on over night, the next morning the message will go 'b-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-p-p-p-p-p-p b-b-b-b-o-o-o-o-o-o-p-p-p-p-' and takes about 5 seconds to complete the notification!
At this point, if I try to restart the computer, or shut it down from the start menu, it does nothing. I go to start select restart, nothing. I go to start, select shutdown, nothing. I have to physically hold down the power button and kill the computer!
I've updated to all the latest drivers for all my components straight of the h-p site. I even tried upgrading my nvidia drivers to the latest from nvidia.com. that didn't work so I reverted back to the h-p ones (from LAST YEAR by the way, can we get an UPDATE!)
so please, tell me WHAT GIVES! In addition to using my computer for daily activities, I also produce music on it. And if I use my pc for more than 2 hours, and I want to work on music, I have to reboot or suffer as my computer completely locks up.
PS. this thing says I cant make a word using the letters h and p... is this a JOKE?!?!?!?!?!?!sorry about my tone, I don't realize how I sound when I'm typing, though I do think it's ridiculous that a forum about h-p doesn't allow you SAY h-p
anyway, I'm still at a loss for what to do, and it just occured to me that this may not be the place to get official help. are there h-p people here? or should I be contacting support? I have a feeling all they're going to tell me is to update the drivers...
