Sattelite A200-1N9 fan starts running faster and become loud

Hi,
So i have strange problem. When my fan starts running faster he bocome so loud i can't work.
What is more strange when he bocome loud i can't start any new programs and programs already running freezes.
What kind of sorcery is this?
Sincerely

Hi
This happens because an process running in the background stresses the CPU up to 100% and this creates more heat dissipation and the fan kick on and runs faster to cool down the CPU. Additionally the CPU is locked and therefore the system freezes for some time.
You have to check what process or tool stresses the CPU.
You can start task manager (CTRL + ALT + DEL) and check the tab Processes.
Here you can see in the CPU column what process use most of CPU performance.

Could be over-heating. Try cleaning out the air vents.

  • Another problem: fan starts running nonstop and messages says to restart

I recently had my hard drive crash and with help from this forum, I was able to replace the hard drive myself last week. I upgraded to Leopard and all seemed well. Now this has happened 3 times: the fan starts running nonstop and loudly and the computer displays a message that I need to restart my computer. The first time it happened, I restarted and it was okay for a few minutes, then started up again, so I shut it down for the night. The next morning, I reset SMU and it worked all of yesterday with no problems until about midday today, when I heard the fan going again and the same message displayed. I currently have it shut down and unplugged to reset the SMU yet again, but am wondering if this is a symptom of more serious problems?
The power supply was replaced a little over a year ago at a local Apple store. Of course, my AppleCare ran out about a month ago. I was really hoping to get another year or two out of this machine with the new hard drive! When I verified the hard drive yesterday, Disk Utility said it was fine. Are there any other troubleshooting things I can do? Thanks for any help with this.

Thanks (once again) for the help! That's a great web site. So far I have run Apple Hardware Test and it says no problems. I verified the disk and it says it appears to be okay. I repaired disk permissions and it did find a couple that it repaired. There were also several SUID files it said would not be repaired, but I found an article that said these warnings can be ignored. I will keep my fingers crossed that the disk permissions repair will help. Otherwise, I will call Apple and see if they will do anything for me. It doesn't seem like it is the power supply again, I'm having totally different symptoms...but who knows? I don't think I will put any more money into this Mac. I would probably buy a new one, but I sure would like to delay it for a year or two, if possible. When it's working okay, this computer is still more than adequate for everything I do.

  • Fan is running fast and HD is hot

Hey guys, my imac is 3 years old now and its fan has been running really fast today. I've shut it down, reset the PRAM, I've reset the SMC as well. It takes it about an hour to speed up. iStat is showing me that the fan speed is running at 3600 rpm and the Hard Drive is running at 124 degrees F. Kinda scary. I've got about 2 months left on my applecare. Any ideas?

    Hi iKev7
First have a look at both the HD and HD bay temp's with the iStat Pro widget to see how they compare.
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/status/istatpro.html
Second did you follow the correct SMC reset: > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1543
most importantly step # 4. +Plug the power cord back in, making sure the power button is not being pressed at the time. Then reconnect your keyboard and mouse to the computer.+

  • XServe fans running fast and loud

    Good morning
I have searched the information base and tried a few suggestions without success.  Hoping for another solution here.
I have an Intel based XServe (2008) (OS 10.6.8) whose fans are running faster (and therefore louder) than they have previously.  This follows on the heels of a power outage (two of them actually) here at school, though the server is behind a UPS.  The system identifier light is also blinking in a particular pattern - 4 flashes and a pause repeating.
The server is up and running, teachers are connecting to it just fine, the RAID is intact and online, the drives all look good according to Disk Utility.  So, functionally, everything looks OK - the fans are just running faster and louder than before - noticibly louder than the other Intel XServe in the rack.  The server is at the top of the enclosed rack with a space below it as it has been for the last 4 years.
This summer I took all the XServes out of the rack, opened them up, and blew the dust out of them (including a moth - truly a bug in the system), so the all the airways are clean and clear.
I have tried the suggestions I could find on this forum:
         restarted a bunch of times
shut down and disconnect everything (including power) for a period of time
reset the PMU/SMC or whatever it is called doing the front panel buttons with the blue lights on the lower row
reset the PMU/SMC or whatever it is called by holding down the power button while disconnected from power
I have installed iStat Pro and the temperatures are averaging around mid- to upper- 30°C and the fans are running around 3000 RPM .  The temperatures aren't signifcantly different that the other XServe, but the fans are running about twice the speed.
I had to reformat the RAID earlier this weekend and copy over the data files from backup and reassign permissions, but the server was running quietly after that was all finished.  It seems to be post-powerbump that the fans became noisy.
Sorry for the long post, but I tried to include all the pertinent information.  I would have tossed in photos and videos if I could have!
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    TIA
    Greg

Did a little more searching about setting up LOM on the XServe and I think I have it figured out now.
I assigned a unique (different) IP address to Network 1 in the LOM dialogue box in Configure Server menu of Server Monitor since I only have Ethernet 1 enabled and linked to a switch using a unique (different) IP address for network traffic between the XServe and my clients.
I can now see (via Server Monitor remotely) that I have a dead blower in my fan array which, upon closer inspection, is also evident in the iStatPro display (one fan running at 18 RPM).  Hence the blinking system identifier light and the other fans running faster and harder (and noisier).
Oddly enough, I have a replacement fan array in a box of XServe spare parts.  I now have a weekend task.
Thanks for all the information to be found and the people participating in this forum.  Love it.

  • Computer froze and fan started going faster by the second. What could've happened?

I was using my computer (MacBook Pro Retina 13") and suddenly it froze and the fan speed was going higher by the second. I had to switch off the compute before something serious happens.
I did the EtreCheck after reading some of the responses. Hope this helps in figuring out what is going wrong. Also how to minimise the CPU usage and reduce the RAM as well?
    Problem description:
My computer froze and the fan (I guess it was the fan) starting blowing harder and harder and harder by the second. I got worried that It might blow up or burn up so I switched it off immediately. Most of my memory is used up by Kernel_task and I am not sure what that is!

    Hello Abed88,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
After you restarted your computer did the issue where your fans were spinning at a high RPM and the Mac became unresonsive come back?  If so I recommend that you start with doing an SMC reset.
Resetting the SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own
Note: Portable computers that have a battery you should not remove on your own include MacBook Pro (Early 2009) and later, all models of MacBook Air, and MacBook (Late 2009).
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.

  • Radeon HD 4870 and HD 2600 XT causes fans to run faster

I just installed a Radeon HD 4870 in my early o8 Mac Pro in PCIE Slot 1. I also moved my original 2600 XT in PCI slot 3 (have also tried it in slot 2 with the same results). I have 2 monitors connected to the 2600 and 1 32" HD TV connected to the 4870. For some reason now my exhaust fan and HD expansion fan is running faster than before I added the 4870. Exhaust is 1148rpm and HD expansion is 2099. Is this just because of the extra heat generated by the 4870 or is something not right here? Thanks.

  • Macbook pro 10.7.5 fan running fast and hot

Recently (past 2 weeks) my macbook pro (just over 1 yr old) 10.7.5 fan has been running fast and hot. It begins after uploading photo's into iPhoto '11. Sometimes it takes 30 minutes for it to cool down and run at normal speed. Uploads are usually 50 to 200 images. I verified the Activity Monitor CPU % and nothing exceeds 12%.
I did a restart twice this week which seems to be a temporary solution. Any tips to resolve this is appreciated.
Happens when running iPhoto is only app open.

When you were checking Activity Monitor, did you select "All Processes" from the drop down list at the top

  • Satellite A300 - fan starts running every 2 mins for about 30 secs

    Hi
I wanted to know if its normal that the fan starts running on my Satellite A300-1hv every 2 mins for about 30 secs?
This is happening continuously. I am on vista maximum performance power.
    Help will be really appreciated.
    Thanks.

Yes, this is nothing unusual because the fan starts rotating if a certain temperature level was reached.
There is an temperature sensor and if the temperature goes to a higher level the cooling modules begins to cool the internal devices like CPU, GPU.
If the temperature decreases then the fan slows down.
It seems there is nothing wrong and you shouldnt be worried

  • HT3964 I reset SMc but fan still running fast

I reset smc but fan still running fast.

First, you only need to post your question once ... you can update that post by responding to it.
If an SMC reset doesn't fix a fast fan, there are several things you can do. First, find the original gray-faced OS X disks that came with the mini and run the extended hardware test, to see if any sensors are failing.
Next, install istat pro from http://www.islayer.com/apps/istatpro/ so you can monitor temps to see if something is running hot.
Finally, load the Activity Monitor (on your hard drive in applications/utilities) and see if any programs are consistenly running more than 30% to 50%+ of the CPU.

The other night, my MacBook Pro's fans started running at high speed when the computer was asleep. Loud enough to wake me up. And this just kept on going until I finally decided to turn the computer off. Is this normal? Is this anything to worry about?

This is not normal.  See if a SMC reset solves the problem:
