That's good.  Hope things continue to work out for you.  And don't forget to install a GOOD Anti Virus Program to avoid this happening again.  The FREE version of AVG does NOT qualify as it offers no REAL TIME Protection.  Try Avast Home Free or Avira Free which offer actual Real Time Protection.

Your model does not have the recovery partition. If you no longer have the discs that accompanied the computer, order them from Toshiba.

  • A205-s5804 recovery error

During the portion of the recovery titled "Now Creating CRC File" I get the Error: 10-FA11-045D. This happens when the progress bar reaches about 38% complete then it stops and advises to to click "ok" to shut down computer.
I have tried recovery with new, never used recovery disks as well as starting the laptop and holding down the "0" key until it goes into recovery. I have tried both the disks and holding "0" over six times each and I get the same error each time.
Is this error a clear indication that the hard drive is bad or are there other options I should be looking at?

You certainly have evidence that hardware if failing. The hard drive is the most likely candidate.

  • Black SOD after Vista Updates on Satellite A205-S5804

I have a Satellite A205-S5804 laptop running Vista Home Premium. It ran fine until an automatic update (about a month ago). Then I got the Black Screen Of Death during bootup (somewhere after the Vista starts to load but prior to the user logon). Took it to the Geek Squad who says it isn't hardware related (as my extended warranty only covers hardware). They claimed it is a corrupted OS. I think they are correct about it not being hardware since I can get it to go to Safe Mode. Restore didn't work. I acquired a copy of Vista Home Premium and attempted to run repair but that didn't correct the problem. Next I reloaded it. Everything ran great like it is suppposed to. But the automatic update downloaded and installed the 92 or so Vista updates that it supposedly needs since the Vista disk was produced. Now the problem is back. I can get to Safe Mode, into the BIOS and just about everything else except I cannot get it to boot normally without black-screening before the login to user prompt. I have hooked an external monitor up and when the laptop blacks out the external monitor reports no signal. I suspect there is an issue with a Vista update (which one I do not know). I have already backed up the data I want to save and have that on another computer. Any suggestions other than to reload Vista and not ever acquire any updates? Is there a setting in the BIOS or a "fix" to the Vista update? I tried searching for hours on this issue and have not found a solution. Thanks for any help or suggestions from other Toshiba users.

     Restore didn't work.
    What does that mean?
It means that when I selected an earlier restore point (prior to when I suspect the Vista update downloaded and installed) the black screen issue remained. At none of my restore points could I get the issue to go away or resolve itself.
I tried the Toshiba restore to out of the box, or at least I wanted to, however, following the manual instructions the laptop did not give me that option. I held down the 0 (zero) button and powered it on but it did not go into the Hard Drive Recovery mode. I suspect my model is not one of the ones that came with this option.
So, after taking the laptop to the Geek Squad originally after the problem appeared and verifying that I don't have a hardware problem and also trying the recommended methods for returning to a stable and fully functional computer, I purchased a legit copy of Vista Home Premium so that I could reload the operating system. Yes, I am realizing how much more difficult Vista is than XP. I have reloaded Vista from scratch. I registered the copy. I have downloaded and installed SP1. I am currently doing SP2. I am basically creating a clean machine with just an OS loaded. Once I am sure that it will function properly (no more blacking out) I will reload my programs and transfer my data back.
Tedious process...but it seems like my best option. And now that it is in progress there really isn't any point in trying anything else other than uninstalling any update(s) after I reach a stable point that may be causing the screen to black out. If and when I reach that point again I will visit Microsoft to see what assistance I can get for any Windows Updates that I can identify as being troublesome.
I really appreciate everyone's input and suggestions. I was hopeful that it would be something as simple as an outdated driver or something along those lines. However, as much as I have searched, I have not found anyone who has had the exact same problem and there doesn't seem to be an easy cure. I will keep you posted on my success or failure with the method I have chosen. Thanks again.

  • Troubleshooting System Recovery Problems

A System Recovery is a useful tool to return your Windows 8 tablet back to factory defaults. However, what do you do when the System Recovery isn't working!?
A full System Recovery can be a lengthy process as there is a lot of data being transferred. Patience is the key, as a full Recovery can take two to four hours to complete.
For more information check out HP's Troubleshooting HP System Recovery Problems for Windows 8. This document will help you get your Windows 8 tablet back up and running.
TIP: If you are planning on using the System Recovery make sure that you do not change or delete the HP Recovery Partition as that will make all but impossible to Restore your tablet using the HP Recovery Manager.

  • A205-S5804 "Dark Screen" start-up

My A205-S5804 (P/N PSAF3U-0NR00V) starts up with the screen totally dark until it gets to the mouse pointer and "circulating ring", just before the circular Windows logo. Before that there SHOULD BE (which I still see on my wife's unaffected computer - same identical model):
    (1) Toshiba screen, with options at bottom bar to use F2  or F12
    (2) copyright symbol and "Windows" , and below that a small bar moving repeatedly left to right
Item (1) should come from BIOS (someone please correct me if I'm wrong)
Item (2) should NOT be part of BIOS
Further, when I try to use F2 or F12 at startup, the screen stays dark, the computer reaches a stage of not doing anything (disk light off) and remains in that state.
I did recntly flash a newer BIOS (version 2.50 for this model, 12/08/2008, file name sa200f3v250.exe), but I think the dark screen start-up began some time before that. The newer BIOS appeared to get in successfully. Also note that a bad BIOS would not explain the missing item (2) above.
    Where do I start?

After typing out this long query, I realized this looked like a case of BIOS not handling my video, but Windows doing so (once booted far enough). There is in fact something different about my video. The video is set to drive the notebook screen and the external RGB output (which goes to a flat-screen TV so online streaming video can be watched there). It has been convenient to just leave the notebook set for that video option. When I go back to video driving the notebook only, AND DISCONNECT THE CABLE TO THE TV, the start-up is normal.
Now my question is, is there some way to leave the video set up for the 2 devices, and still get normal start-up?

  • Satellite A205-S5804 won't boot.

My computer Satellite A205-S5804 won't boot.
It won't run on safe mode, and it won't run the system restore.
It remains black with a cursor, if anything at all.
How do I get my computer back on?

    Hi
Youve got a cursor which is flashing in the upper left corner?
In such case you should check of the HDD has been recognized by BIOS!
If the HDD is listed in BIOS then I would recommend checking the HDD using the drives fitness test:
    http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/support/download.htm
To run the drives fitness test you must download the appropriate creator or image and create a self-booting media.
    Check it!

  • Toshiba L675 Recovery Problem

I have a Toshiba L675-S7048 and have tried restoring the unit to "Out of Box" state.  When I received the laptop about 1 year ago, I immediately created recovery dvds.  I used those Dvds two times and the recovery process does not seem to complete itself.  It appears I do not receive the Windows 7 Setup screen where I enter my name, time zone, etc.  I do receive a syspro box that when I click on it, it comes as an error.  So I have recently tried holding down the 0 key and recovering the unit using the partition recovery system.  Same thing.  I contacted Toshiba and the  first person wanted to charge me $50.  I spoke with someone else who didn't seem to know what they were doing and told me to unplug the battery and do a recover again, so I am doing that.  Something tells me I am going to get the same thing.  I think it seems that the original recovery parition that was put on this laptop was defective, and of course, Toshiba wants to charge me $29.95 to have a new recovery dvd mailed to me.  It seems very unfair because the problem was put on this laptop from the factory and therefore you would think, Toshiba would send me a new recovery dvd because they realized they messed up.    Just wanted to see if anyone else was having the same problems and if so, did you find anything that fixed the issue. Thanks.

I have some help if you might need it. First of all,Tech Support does not exist. Any time you give them a call, you will get someone that has no clue about Computers. So, when it comes time to buy extended sevice, don't buy it.
If you have AOL as an ISP, they will fix your computer  free when you subscribe to thier $17.50 package. You only have to register your laptop with them and if you ever have a problem, contact them.
Also if you have Direct TV sattelite service, they also have a repair service for any electronics that you own.
As for recovery of your laptop, do a restart and when the screen goes black, hold the number 0 down, and be sure that all things pluged into you laptop are un-pluged. It will prompt you to full out of box recovery.
I hope that I have answered some of your questions that you have asked. I've been a comp tech for many years and I build full systems and do company programing. I'm on this forum often, when I see a problem, I will try to help.

    Hi,
I was trying to recover the factory default settings on my Toshiba A205 4777 laptop and it is getting stuck while recovering the files. I tried this serveral times and Iam encountering the same problem. Can anybody help me in solving this issue? is there any problem with the hard disk? pls let me know
    Thanks

    The computer freezes up randomly..
..with the recovery factory disk, bringing the computer to the original configuration (out of the box state) (Problem not solved)
If it happens just after restoring the hard disk to its original contents, then it's surely due to a hardware malfunction.
    Test the memory.
How do I know if my computer has a memory problem?

The message means that your internal hard has been damaged. This message always comes up when the file system is corrupted. I suggest to remove it, connect the hard drive into a different computer as an external drive (use usb caddy), perform a backup if possible and the format the hard drive and restore the factory settings. I'm afraid that you have to reformat the hard drive, a checkdisk scan won't help..
The error message means that the Boot Sector is corrupt or has been damaged. It does not mean that the hard disk is damaged.
This is a fixable issue. There are a few command line tools that can be used.
You will  need to make an appropriate version (32-bit / 64-bit) of the Windows 7 repair disc from a working Windows 7 installation. You will need either a USB or CD to create your rapair CD/USB. Follow the instructions on this video to create the repair installation of your choice..You will will be using the manual boot sector repair that is described in this video to repair your Windows 7 Boot sector.  Use the Windows 7 repair disc or repair USB thumb drive that you created earlier to accomplish the repair.

  • Recovery Problem

I have a Dell Latitude X200 laptop (with Windows XP Pro) and a Zire 31.  My use of the Zire is restricted to its Calendar and Contacts features.  On April 29 the Palm data on the Dell was seriously corrupted.  The Zire has not been HotSynced for over a month.  BUT, by using the “Export” option in the Zire’s Calendar and Contacts sections, I had saved those two datasets to a flash drive on April 27.  I want to:  1) Remove all present data from the Dell and the Zire.  2) Copy the saved Calendar and Contacts data from the flash drive into the Dell.  3) Perform a “HotSync” to copy the correct data in the Dell into the Zire.  Is there any hope that I can get my April 27 data back into the Dell where it belongs, and then into the Zire?

    A couple of things:
Reset system bios to the defaults - F2 at start up to enter the bios f9 to set to defaults and then f10 to save.
    then try to start.
Did you have any problems before trying to recover, slow or lagging response, etc. These problems can be caused by virus/maleware and also a failing hard drive.
The recovery may not be completing because of bad sectors on the drive - a failing hard drive.
